My thoughts were a blur when we landed in New York. It was mid afternoon and raining, but the city was still bustling and seemed as busy as a beehive in summer. It seemed that in no time at all, our limo was stopping in front of a beautiful brownstone. It was four stories up and had a wonderful view of Central Park. I paused inside but moved out of the way so a butler could take what few bags we had. My grandmother was saying something to me but I couldn't hear her for a moment. When I realized she spoke again, I turned my shocked eyes to her. "Huh?"

She smiled knowingly at me and my grandfather chuckled. "Bri, dear, I was saying that your grandfather and I have a few things here to see to, but you can explore as much as you'd like. The ground level here is the common area and the kitchen. Outside of the common area we have our outdoor patio and pool with the hot tub if you'd like to use it." Seeing my look of shock, she laughed softly. "We bought the small plot next door to be able to have our own private pool. Moving on, below us, in the basement, is where the maids and butler have their own space. We finds it's just easier that way. The floor above us is the library and the workspace for me and your grandfather. Above that is your room and bathroom and above that, is our room. Like I said, you're free to explore if you wish."

With a peck on the cheek, she and grandfather left and I stood there for a moment, feeling completely out of my depth. I knew they were rich but not THIS rich. Shaking my head to clear it, I fully took in my surroundings. The floor was white and cream marble and the walls were a beautiful sea foam green. The staircase seemed never ending and I was thankful that there was an elevator as well. My eyes took in the Victorian furnishings and I was almost scared to sit in anything.

I slowly made my way into the common area and saw a few couches and chairs that seemed safe for sitting. My eyes caught the grand piano in the corner and I couldn't stop my smile from growing. I couldn't wait to hear my grandfather play again. I made my way to the wall to wall windows and the wide doors that led to the sparkling pool outside. It had to be heated for any season, I had no doubt of that. Swallowing down my doubts about living here and turned to continue looking around.

However, I found a maid watching me and I froze, my eyes wide. She smiled politely and tilted her head slightly. "Is there anything I can get for you, Miss?" I was at a loss for words, unsure of what to think. "Ermmm..." She stepped toward, her smile staying polite. "Madame called ahead and had some things arrive that she thought you might like. Soda, juice drinks, teas, vitamin waters..."

Blinking at the thoughtfulness, I smiled. "Blueberry acai vitamin water please?" She nodded and moved to turn away and I panicked. "Thank you!" I blurted, stepping forward. She paused for a moment and turned to smile again. "You're welcome, Miss."

I looked down at my feet, looking at my scuffed converse on the pristine white carpet and I wanted to be sucked down a wormhole. How was I going to do this?! I'm not a Miss! I'm just...me. Taking a deep breath, I let it out in a rush and sat down on one of the chairs. This would take quite a bit of getting used to. After she came back with my drink, I took a few pulls and got back up to resume my tour.

I entered a stainless steel state of the art kitchen and it took my breath away. Everyone was in here rushing around and the smells coming from inside were wonderful. They froze when they saw me and I knew my cheeks were red with embarrassment. "Uh...hello. I'm Bri. I'm going to be living here now. I just...I just wanted to say hi and that it smells great." I felt so stupid as they watched me stammer and the chef smiled.

"You are most welcome, Miss! Tonight I make for you a garden salad with fresh vegetables, chicken cordon bleu with fondant potatoes and roasted garlic and parmesan broccolini, and for dessert, we have light and fluffy beignets with a dark chocolate sauce." My mouth was watering after that and I couldn't stop the grin from splitting my face. "That sounds delicious! I can't wait to try it!"

I said my thank yous and rushed out before I felt even more stupid than I already did. Making my way up the stairs, I blinked at the size of their library and work space. I stayed in the library for a while, inhaling the scent of books and smiled at the familiar memories. However, they quickly became painful and I pushed them away, feeling my heart constrict. Letting my fingers trail across the leather bound books, I made my way upstairs to my room...or should I say FLOOR?!

It was huge! My room had a bed and vanity and dressers and all, but also had its own sitting area and book shelves and tv and anything I could ever dream of! My bed had to be king and I've never seen one so nice. The colors in the room were neutrals in shades of every color it seemed. I honestly couldn't think of anything I could want to change. This was the most beautiful room I had ever seen in my life. What stopped my heart, was a large french window that opened onto my own balcony. Sitting on the balcony was a large easel and a paint organizer. It had drawers and drawers full of any color I could possibly think of.

Tears streamed down my face as I traced the wooden case and looked around the room they'd put so much love into. Sniffling back a sob, I opened the door to my bathroom and gasped at the beauty of it. The walls were a deep blue that reminded me of the depths of the ocean. The time was so white it was almost blinding. It had a large tub for soaking and a pretty impressive waterfall shower. Biting my lip, I left the room and made my way to my bed. After such a long day, I was tired again and wanted a rest. Kicking off my shoes, I placed my drink on my bedside table, climbed into the nice, soft sheets and fell to sleep almost instantly.

This would all be a lot to get used to, but I could do it, right?
