It had been a few months since I had moved to New York and sadly my hair had begun to fall out due to the chemo treatments. I had a few cute hats and scarves that I bought to hid the fact, but in truth, I have never felt so ugly. Still, I was trying to suck it up and keep dressing nice and doing my makeup and it wasn't working well. My last tutor had just left and I was sitting on my balcony drinking a strawberry flavored sparkling water when I heard it.
It was the most beautiful piano sonata I'd ever heard. I knew it wasn't my grandfather because the music wasn't coming from downstairs. It was coming from the Brownstone next door. I turned my head and saw a short and petite teenage girl step onto her balcony. She caught my eye and I pulled my scarf down to hide the face that my hair was horrible. She smiled to me and waved, which caused me to flush in embarrassment and return the wave. "Hi! My name is Alice! We just moved in a few days ago! I've been wanting to make a friend and here you are! Would you like to come over?"
I blinked stupidly for a moment, confused that this girl was actually talking to me. She had a pixie style cut and her clothes were extremely fashionable. She seemed too pretty to be true, but I hadn't had any friends in so long, so I nodded. "Uh, yeah! Sure! I'll be right over!"
I jumped up from my chair and ran into my room, feeling a rush of excitement. I was going to make a friend! She wasn't the one playing the piano so there was someone who lived in her home with extraordinary musical talent. I ran to the mirror to check my outfit. I was wearing a pink Paris tee shirt with a pair of slightly flared jeans and a plaid vest that fit pretty well to the little figure I had. I couldn't keep a lot of food down anymore and was losing weight, but I pushed that thought from my head. My locket sat against my pale flesh and I touched it with my fingers. "Wish me luck, mom and dad."
I made my way over to my bed and put on my pink converse. My grandmother hated that I paired stylish clothes with these 'horrid' shoes but I didn't care. I always had to have my converse. I grabbed my green Tiffanys lock purse and slid my nausea medicine inside. My eyes turned to my reflection again to make sure my head scarf was on secure and I grimaced as I looked at it. My thinning hair was braided over my shoulder and the scarf itself was a pale mesh pink with a pretty floral design printed on. It matched the pink of my shirt perfectly and the band had the perfect amount of stretch as to not give me a headache, but I was still embarrassed to be seen with it.
I lowered my eyes to rest on the floor, wondering if I should even try. Some people wore headscarves even if they didn't have cancer, but I didn't want this girl to think I was gross or contagious, like the kids I used to go to school with. Tears burned my eyes but I blinked them back, not wanting to spoil my makeup. Looking back at my reflection, I took a deep breath and let it out before going downstairs. I told my grandparents that the girl next door invited me over and explained how it had happened. They were happy for me and as I grabbed a vitamin water for myself, they wished me luck and I made my way outside.
I took another deep breath before knocking and I clenched the strap of my lock bag as I tried to pep myself up.

Alice squealed and ran back into the house, running into Edwards room as he kept playing, trying to ignore her. "She's coming over! A new friend! A new possibility! I'm so excited!"
Edward just rolled his eyes and kept playing, not acknowledging her at all.
Alice ran downstairs and was greeted by Jasper, who was smiling. "It's nice to see you so happy, Alice, but the girl is scared and worried. Try not to be so jumpy and hyper. If you want to keep this girl in your life, don't frighten her." Alice pouted, sobering up. "I won't scare her away. She's going to be a part of this family, you'll see." Jasper smiled and kissed her forehead.
Carlisle sighed softly, taking in the members of his family. "Seeing me is going to be quite a shock. I'm surprised I've let you talk us all into this, Alice. I hope your vision of her is right." Alice made her way over to him and placed her hand on his forearm. "It is right, Carlisle. We are going to be exactly what she needs, and she will heal us as well."
No one said anything when they heard Rosalie scoff because there was a knock at the door. Their eyes turned to the door as Carlisle made his way over. Alice clapped her hands and stood a little ways behind him. When the door opened, the girls eyes had widened and she stumbled back a step. "Doctor Cullen?!"

Of all the people to see when the door opened, Doctor Cullen was NOT who I expected at all. My jaw dropped as he smiled sheepishly. "Wha...what are you doing here?!"
He stepped back and waved an arm for me to enter. "Please, Bri, do come in." I looked inside and my feet propelled me forward. I swallowed as the door closed behind me and I saw the girl that had invited me over. I smiled softly at her and nodded before turning my gaze back to Carlisle.
I'm sure you're wondering why I am here. A position opened up at the Hospital for Special Surgery and I took it." His eyes moved down my figure and back up, taking in the headscarf. "So, it's progressed to the point of hair loss?" My face flamed and I looked to the floor, nodding softly.
The tension was broken when Alice came over, a large smile on her face. "Hello again! I'm Alice!" I looked up and saw that she was just as pretty as she'd looked from the distance. Looking around the people who were sitting in the living room, they were all extremely beautiful. "Hi, I'm Bri. It's actually Britannica Marie Williams, but I go by Bri." Alice nodded after a moment. "Britannica is a very interesting name. It's nice to meet you, Bri."
Carlisle stepped forward and began introductions. "Bri, these are my children. Alice, Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett. Edward is upstairs playing his piano. My wife Esme should be home shortly." I nodded, waving to each person. The only sibling that didn't wave was Rosalie but to be honest, I didn't care. She didn't seem like the kind of person I would want to be friends with anyway.
I looked towards the stairs and smiled softly. "He plays beautifully." Alice grabbed my hand and led me to the stairs. "Come on! I'll introduce you! I love your outfit by the way! It's so fashionable that I can even ignore that you wear converse!" That statement caused me to laugh. "You sound like my grandmother."
We turned into a bedroom that was wall to wall books and music. My eyes traced the numerous volumes of leather bound texts and records and cds. A new piece was started and my eyes turned to his figure as his hands moved across the keys. I was entranced and I could only see his back. His black piano was facing his open window and the sunlight was shining on his perfectly mussed copper hair. He was wearing a plain white tee shirt and his feet were bare as they moved against the pedals. I could see the muscles moving through the fabric of his shirt as he played.
My eyes closed and I felt my body relax. "Yiruma- River Flows in You." Alice turned to me and smiled as I whispered the name of the piece. "You know it?" I nodded, turning my gaze back to her brother's back. "It's a beautiful piece. My grandfather used to play it for me when I was sad. I would know it anywhere."
The song finished and he turned, his honey eyes catching mine. I felt my breath hitch as he froze, almost looking like a Greek statue. I blinked myself out of my stupor and held out my hand. "Hello, I'm Britannica, but you can call me Bri." He watched me for a moment before he smiled softly and took my hand. "Hello, Bri. I'm Edward Cullen. It's nice to meet you." My face flushed and I pulled my hand away, turning my attention back to Alice. "Well, introductions are done, now what?" This caused her to laugh and pull me to the entrance. "Now we get better acquainted!"
As she pulled me out into the hallway, I turned my eyes back to Edward and saw him still smiling at me. I waved awkwardly as I was taken out of sight.

Edward didn't know what to expect when he heard them enter his room. When he finished his piece and turned, his eyes met her green and that was it. He'd felt the pull, just as Alice said he would. He honestly hadn't believed her because he had believed so fiercely that Bella was his soul mate. He'd been proved wrong today, however. Her blood smelled nice, of course it did, but it didn't put him into a frenzy as Bella's had. It made him want to protect her from everything in this world. From the second their eyes met, he would do anything for her, be anything she needed. He could get lost in the green hills that were her eyes. He knew that she was weak from her cancer treatments so he would be her strength.
As Alice pulled her from his room, his eyes watched them leave and he let out an unneeded sigh. "Annoying pixie is always right." Running a hand down his face, his eyes moved back to the entrance of his room. "Bri..." Her name a whisper on his lips.
