Chapter 25
New threat.
Next morning came and Yang woke up and saw the sunlight peaking through her curtains, but a thought occurred to her and she rolled over to see that indeed Reese was laying there still asleep.
Yang then got her arm around Reese's head and brought him in for a hug, she held on to him for a bit.
At the same time Reese slowly woke up to the warmth of his wife embracing him, and he returned the gesture by hugging her back.
Both of them held on for a long time not moving, mainly because they have been away from each other for a long time.
"Guys how long are you going to be doing that?" Ruby says from across the room.
Yang was about to retort but a quick shush gesture from Reese got her back to reality.
After all everything seems to be a normal day for them.
The group then went back to their job for another day on the streets, but things changed when they walked into the front door.
"All units, all units we have a level two Grimm attack in multiple locations throughout downtown." The dispatcher says over the radio.
Reese then rushed to the squad car and got the car going, at the same time the rest of the team got their armor on and got to the car, when the last team member got into the car Reese hit the accelerator and got going.
"This is squad 10-1 we are engaged with Grimm and they are coming in mass. We need some help!" Someone said.
"Squad 2-3 is inbound eta 2 minutes." Reese said back.
In past training with Reese team rwby got so good at arming up and getting to the car that they are usually first at a scene.
"What are we going to do?" Weiss asks.
"First move is checkmate, (Weiss and Blake make a ice wall to stop Grimm.) then dragon (Reese and Yang engage with massive firepower to overwhelm the Grimm.) then Little Red picks them off". (Ruby gets to a elevated position and pick off Grimm.) Reese says.
The car then rounds a corner and there was the five man team holding off the Grimm and they are barely holding on.
"Right on time!" Reese said as he hits the brakes.
At that moment Weiss and Blake both flew out of the car, while in the air Weiss got the ice dust ready, Blake at the same time slapped a mag into gambol shroud, after a few seconds in the air Weiss then threw the blue dust far away from everyone else. Blake then took aim at the dust and fired a shot. The round then hit the unstable dust and it exploded throwing solid ice in a downward trajectory. Some Grimm got impaled and got pinned to the ground, but the rest got separated from the street for the moment.
When the squad car came to a stop Reese and rest of the team came out guns blazing.
"Yang take the right side, Ruby take left, and I'll take center." Reese orders.
Now the team was giving the Grimm full force lethality and successfully pushing them back.
"That was quick." Weiss says after a few minutes.
"Yeah usually this kind of Grimm attack lasts for 30 minutes, but we got it done in five." Blake says.
Reese was on alert and he was right into being that way.
"All units farmers market is under attack from Grimm." The dispatcher said over the radio.
"You heard them let's get going!" Reese shouted.
Back into the car and another time of breaking the speed limit and helping out people and keeping them safe.
The attack on the farmers market was somewhat smaller, still didn't mean that the team had a difficult time dispatching the Grimm, especially since Ruby was slowly getting back into her combat style,but it was sloppy.
"Watch out!" Yang shouted to Ruby.
Ruby then looked over her shoulder just in time to see a beowolf coming right at her with a claw ready to strike.
She then turned to strike with crescent rose but for some reason it was a little bit heavier than normal.
"Oh no not now." Ruby thought as fear crawled upon her.
But Reese was watching her.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Two to the chest one to the head and the monster was down.
"COVER!" Reese shouted.
The rest of the team gathered around Ruby to protect her while Reese talked to her.
"What's going on?" Reese asks.
"Someone is here who ever it is has a powerful presence." Ruby says while shaking.
Reese then looks around and only sees Grimm, but the hairs on the back of his neck are standing up.
"Patty sat scan of the area 5 miles look for heat signatures." Reese says.
After another five minutes of fighting the Grimm backed off but Reese did his usual thing.
"Your not getting away this time!" Reese shouted as he shot the monsters in the back.
And every thing went silent no more calls from the department, just a small breeze.
"Team start figuring out who needs help." Reese says.
"Got it." Team rwby says.
Reese then looked at the sat scan and saw that everything was normal, but his technology can detect small changes in the area. For example each Grimm has a unique thermal signature vs a human or faunas. And for some odd reason there was one location where it was warmer than normal.
Reese started an investigation in the area and found the thermal source was in a hotel.
"Patty isolate." Reese says.
One thermal scan later and a couple of flights of stairs Reese was now in the room where the hot spot was.
"Looks normal." Reese says out loud.
"Sure it does, but remember Grimm leave traces behind." Patty says.
"Then analyze the room." Reese says.
In the visor it activated,various scans where it looked for any unique features that can't be found by the naked eye.
It picked up a odd thing and it was highlighted on the hud, Reese then went over and picked it up it was a fabric and it was black on one side and red on the other.
"A Grimm that wears clothes?" Reese says with a puzzled look on his face.
"Unlikely." Patty says.
Reese then looks out the window and sees the farmers market, more specifically he could see where team rwby is standing, where the battle took place.
"Something is watching us." Reese says.
After a bit of looking around and asking questions Reese went back to the team.
"Hey there is our fearless fighter what did you find?" Yang asks.
"Don't know but I have a bad feeling that there is something new round about." Reese says.
"What makes you say that?" Blake asks.
Reese then digs out of his pocket the cloth he found.
"This was found in a hotel room not to far from here, with an over look in our direction." Reese says.
The day went about as normal, call here and there about some disturbance that lead to an arrest.
Now it was time to go home and have another night of silence, training and or therapy for those who are struggling.
This night Winter was there talking to Ruby and Yang about their issues and how to deal with the negative emotions behind everything.
Reese meanwhile was chilling in Yangs bed and thinking about that hotel room.
"Patty make a 3d model of the room?" Reese asks.
The helmet then activated the cameras on it and it made an accurate scale of the hotel room complete with furniture.
"What am I looking for?" Reese asked.
Reese walked around the projection of the room looked at it from all angles, but came up with nothing.
"Remember Reese a normal sized Grimm would not fit in this room." Patty says as various Grimm flashes where Reese was standing.
"I know but what am I missing." Reese says in frustration unaware that someone has entered the room.
Just then a pair of hands grabbed reese covering his eyes, followed by a familiar voice.
"Guess who?" Yang asks.
"A white haired woman who knows how to impersonate my wife?" Reese says.
And for that Reese got a light slug to the hip.
"Ow that hurt." Reese says.
"You honestly thought I was Weiss?" Yang asks.
"Well if you think about it your hair and Weiss's are the same length, so there is that. The only way I could tell the difference was hight." Reese says.
"And who is the tallest?" Yang asks.
Reese knew she was ether teasing him or she is testing him.
"You are honey." Reese says as he leans forward.
Now Reese has noted throughout his realationship when is with Yang in the presence of her friends and in public, she is reserved, but when they are alone it's the complete opposite she is very flirty and something else that Reese cant figure it out.
"So have you figured out your mystery?" Yang asks.
"No every thought or theory that I have thought of just doesn't add up." Reese says.
"What did you recover from the site again?" Yang says.
"A piece of cloth that is black and red." Reese says.
"So did you think of other possibilities even tho they are very unlikely?" Yang asks.
"Like what?" Reese asks.
"Well I don't know maybe some Grimm hybrid that look different." Yang says.
Reese then ponders that and he remembered his crew's helmet cams during rubys extration mission.
"Patty access jacks camera and scope." Reese says.
Patty then brought it up, and the first image that popped up was when jack jumped out of the jet and skydived to the location.
"Go to when Jack was on the rock and providing overwatch." Reese says.
The video then skips to where Jack was on the rock and right there was and individual that was wearing a cloak.
"Stop right there. Analyze." Reese says.
Patty then enhanced the image and through some examination technology Reese could see the individual had indeed a black cloak with a red liner.
"That's amazing, what is it?" Yang asks.
"Eh, I don't know what this program is. But I know what the Dragon program does." Reese says.
"And that is?" Yang asks.
"It enhances my combat abilities to be 5-75% faster than any other huntsman." Reese says.
"So now why is the image cut off at the waist?" Yang asks.
"Because the program works by what it sees but it cannot guess the rest of the image." Reese says.
Yang then shrugs and looks at the image.
"I don't know why but this individual looks familiar." Yang says.
"That's very unlikely, but I don't doubt it. By the way where is Ruby?" Reese asks.
"She went out for a walk with Winter." Yang says.
Reese was about to say something when Patty chimed in.
"Reese the unique thermal signature just reappeared half a mile away from Winter and Ruby." Patty said.
In that one second Yang blinked and Reese was gone with him shouting.
"ARM UP!"
Reese was running at full speed straight toward mom and Ruby, to at least warn them of the imminent danger.
Unfortunately for Reese he had the armor but he left his helmet behind, but he still had the tactical glasses, and his armor can conform around his head to provide some protection.
"Your about 400 yards away from them." Patty says.
"What about the tango?" Reese says.
"Less than that." Patty says.
"Patch me to winter's coms." Reese says.
After two rings Winter picks up and she wasn't to happy.
"Better have a….." Winter was about to say.
"THREAT 3 OCLOCK!" Reese shouted.
Winters hair then stood up on end she felt the danger too.
"Ruby get behind me." Winter says.
"What's going on?" Ruby asks unaware of the danger.
Winter ignores Ruby for a minute and listened to the area, she knew Reese is on his way but it will be a minute so she needed to fight.
But reality is a bitch.
Just then a portal opened up next to Winter and a boot came through.
Reese was about 34 yards out when he heard something.
"AHHH STAY AWAY FROM ME!"
That was Ruby it was going south fast.
Reese then burst through the bushes to see Winter on the ground and Ruby was running, but didn't see Reese.
"DOWN!" Reese shouted.
Ruby then looked up saw Reese with his weapon drawn, she then dropped to the ground.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Reese fires the two to the chest and one to the head for the new threat in a attempt to stop it.
Well the threat dropped and didn't move.
Ruby then ran to Reese.
"What's going on!" Ruby shouted.
"I don't know but I have a feeling that it's gone bad." Reese says as he tries to wake up Winter.
"THREAT! 7 OCLOCK!" Patty says.
Reese then turns around just in time to see the threat back up and has a sword in it's right hand.
In that moment Reese drew his short katana, blocked the other sword and in another move he kicked Ruby away from the combat zone.
"Ow!" Ruby said.
"Sorry about that I'll buy you cookies later." Reese thought.
"Power enhancements activated." Patty said.
Reese was on the ground but he was able to get on his legs and was able to push back.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Reese was now in analysis mode he was trying to find a pattern to the unknowns fighting style so he can end it.
But unfortunately this tango had a perfect fighting style and it felt very familiar to Reese.
"Patty where is everyone?" Reese asks as he blocks another strike.
"Close." Patty says.
Reese then locked blades and shoved them away.
"YANG OVER HERE!" Reese shouted.
Then the threat got a little faster with their strikes but Reese was able to keep up.
BOOM! a certain firecracker round hit the tango in the head and made them stumble backwards, followed by side kick from Reese making the threat fly a good distance where they came to a stop.
"Who is that?" Blake asks.
"The threat who was watching us." Reese says.
The tango got up looked around and saw that more people showed up.
"Get on the ground now!" Reese shouted.
It spoke with a female voice.
"No chance I got what I wanted she will be pleased." She says.
A portal then opens and she jumped through and vanished. Then the normal night life resumed, but for Reese it felt off.
"Well that happened." Yang says.
"Yeah but why go after Ruby?" Weiss says.
While the team was presenting theory's, Reese was working on solutions.
Winter at that time woke up and grabbed her weapon.
"Where is the target who kicked me?" Winter says.
"She ran after the rest of the team showed up." Reese says.
"Good did you get a hit?" Winter asks.
"No she was a good fighter." Reese says.
Everyone then went home and got ready for bed, but it was going to be a short night.
Reese was for once dreaming he hasn't had a dream since the events of beacon academy where he dreamed about Yang. (He put the pieces together when yangs long blonde hair matched the same one in the dream). In this dream he saw the farmers market, and it was busy but he blinks and he sees the market on fire and Grimm are overrunning the market, and in the distance he saw Salem walking through the mayhem and then she stops and bends down and picks up a young woman, whom Reese recognized it was ruby and from the looks of it she was hurt but pinned by Grimm.
"I got you now." Salem say to Ruby.
Reese then reached down for his handgun on his hip, but the dream cut out and Reese woke up.
"GAHHHHHH!" Reese shouted as he swept the room with his weapon.
Apparently everyone else woke up from that shout.
Yang fell out of the bed.
Ruby gave a moderate surprise sound.
Weiss and Blake flew out out of bed with weapons in hand.
And tai ran up stairs to see what the commotion was.
"What happened?" Tai asks.
"I had a dream where I saw the market on fire over ran by Grimm and I saw Salem, and she had." Reese stopped.
"Had what?" Yang asks.
Reese was now looking at Ruby with fear in his eyes and that was the first time he ever showed that emotion.
"Had Ruby in her hands and she said she got Ruby." Reese says.
Just then the dots connected.
"Everyone we need to get out now!" Reese says with urgency.
"What the house?" Ruby asks.
"No off the island off of Patch." Reese says.
"Why?" Yang asks.
"Salem is about to make her move." Reese says.
"Where are we going to go?" Blake asks.
"Away from this…island…in fact evacuate the island, we need everyone off." Reese says.
