Chapter 3 - Going Shopping (alone?)
After acquiring Ishigami's number, the only thing Kei had left to do was calling him, right?
WRONG! (A/N: No sh*t, Sherlock)
She realized it after getting to her room, but...what could she say to convince him to go out with her without coming across as a total creep? Like, she had his number, but didn't have any reasonable explanation to give him as to why she wanted them to meet each other. As to how and why she got his number, she can use her brother as a scapegoat and say that her reason for seeking it was to allow herself to ask him for guidance, as he had more experience with being a treasurer than her.
However, those excuses referring to her possessing his number wouldn't help her in convincing him to meet with her, as he could just message her his solutions to the problems she might send him and tips on what she should improve.
"*sigh* This is so frustrating!"
But when life closes a door, search for a window!
At that moment, while she watched some funny videos to distract herself, before one of the videos started, instead of some product announcement, a trailer started.
And that's when she got an idea on how to get Ishigami to go on a date with her, which made her smile like a cat that just got the canary.
*****Chapter 3*****
Yuu Ishigami is feeling a tad confused at this moment.
His summer vacations had been quite normal until this week. He would wake up, bath, eat breakfast, play videogames, eat lunch, play videogames, eat dinner, play videogames, sleep and repeat. Usually, the only human interaction he had while at home was during dinner, since that was the one meal his mother decided that they (he, his parents and his brother) should have together, as they had different schedules from each other and usually, mostly during school days for him and his brother and work days for his parents, they couldn't afford time to eat the other meals with one another. As such, even when they had time to eat with each other, they didn't need to, which he used to think of as a kind of pointless freedom that he was allowed to have. At least, until that day.
People, more often than not, undervalue things they take for granted, until they either lose those things or have a sudden need for them.
Before the whole debacle with Ootomo and Ogino, Ishigami would almost every weekend have all his meals with his family, for while he might be an introverted individual, he still enjoyed the time he spent together with them. Not that he would ever say that out loud. So, even while he could eat breakfast and lunch alone, he would likely choose not to.
But after the day he got suspended, things got really tense at home, and he started thinking that it would have been much better if he didn't have to share any meals with his family. It escalated to the point he would use chains to keep his door locked during dinner and would try to write the damn apology letter instead of interacting with his family.
During the first months, his mother would knock on the door, worried about him, asking him to open it. But one day, even she decided it would be best to leave him to his own devices.
Things got a little better after the president, Myuki Shirogane, took him away from the darkness that was his life (and his room), and he started attending high school. His father, while still quite harsh when dealing with him, didn't have that aggressive edge on his voice anymore, and while Yuu still preferred to eat most of his meals alone, at the very least he started having dinner with the rest of his family again. Of course, the tearful smile his mother gave him when he appeared suddenly one day to accompany them for the meal might be part of the reason. The fact his father spilled a whole glass of water on himself, and then tripped on the wet floor also might have something to do with it.
But, his summer routine was suddenly interrupted when he received a message from Kei Shirogane.
The younger sister of his fellow member of the Shuchi'in high school Student Council asked him for help with some matters related to her duty as a treasurer. Considering that the only time they interacted with each other he had helped her with something quite similar, her request was quite reasonable, even though he thought it was a bit weird that she would ask for it during vacations. Then again, vacations also meant that both of them would likely be free, unless they had plans to travel, which was unlikely considering his NEETness and her brother's stingness. And about how she got his number...did he even need to ask who gave it to her?
Without thinking too deeply about it, Ishigami answered the questions she had and made his observations about her work when she sent him a few old documents so he could review them. While he would have liked to play some videogames during that time, he was quite happy to help someone like this, as his test results never failed to make him feel like an idiot. The fact that her brother had helped him so much also served as motivation to aid her.
After quite some time discussing about work, he looked at the time and sent her a message that he had to leave their conversation to eat dinner. She replied with a thumbs up emoji. Leaving the phone on his bed, Ishigami went downstairs.
When Yuu reached the dinning room, he saw his older brother helping his mother with putting up the table, which meant that it was his father's turn cooking. So he went to the kitchen, and helped bringing the food to the table. They then served themselves, and after a quick prayer, started eating.
"So, Yuu, anything new?" His mother asked him with a soft smile on her face.
"Nothing much, just messaging someone I know." He answered without thinking too much about it. Had his mother added something new to her katsudon?
"Was it that guy that came talk to you about entering the Student Council?" His brother asked, while taking a bite on the egg.
"No, it was his sister." Ishigami slowly tasted the tonkatsu. Maybe she added a bit of pepper on the sauce, it felt more spicy than normal.
"That's...wait, did you say sister?" His father, who started answering automatically, stopped himself mid-phrase after he realized what his son had said.
"Yes, she's the treasurer of Shuchi'in middle school Student Council." He answered, still not bothering too much with the question, while his mind wandered to the new game that would be released on Saturday.
"That's great Yuu! How is she?" His mother asked, thinking of how amazing it was that even after that a girl could like her shy little boy, who used to hide behind her when he met other kids, her cute son that would always give her hugs when she came home, her...
"She's nice, but...why are you crying?" Ishigami couldn't help but sweat-drop, what had caused that?
"Just treat her well, ok son?" His father said, while nodding at him sagely, as if giving him his approval.
"...Ok?" Yuu answered confused, why were they acting like this, he was just helping her with school stuff. They couldn't be thinking that...
"Way to go bro!" His older brother patted his shoulder, which confirmed his thoughts.
" ...Thanks." While he liked to cut down Fujiwara-senpai all the time, he couldn't bring himself to do the same to his family. That, and from all the mangas he read before, he knew that trying to deny will do him no good, if anything it might make the whole situation much worse. Besides, it's not like Myuki's sister would ever meet his parents.
Kei suddenly sneezed, and for some reason she couldn't stop thinking about meeting in-laws.
After finishing his dinner, Ishigami went back to his room upstairs and got a surprise after checking the phone.
- "Hey, Ishigami-senpai, could I ask you for a favor?"
A favor? Like in those mangas where the girl asks for the protagonist to "help" them? Wait, this is real life, so, does she need money? No, it can't be that either, if she's anything like her brother, she would probably refuse even if it was offered. Then...
- "What do you need?"
"The perfect answer! It's not a no, so she will elaborate further before I can make a decision, and if it's too unreasonable, I can still refuse!"
Yuu Ishigami was feeling quite proud of himself for no good reason.
- "I want to see a movie Saturday night, but my father won't let me go alone because it ends at midnight. Can you please go with me?"
His heart skipped a beat, and his face got as red as a tomato. She was asking him out? Is this real? Had he been sent to another dimension? Is his life a fanfic? (A/N: Nooooo, *whistle*, *whistle*, *whistle*). Okay Ishigami, calm yourself. If answer thinking it's a declaration, you'll just embarrass yourself.
"What do I do? Should I accept? Wait...why exactly did she ask that to me?" After the surprise of a girl asking him out passed, he suddenly became confused as to what made her ask him that. Like, they only met once, what a-
"Weirdo."
"Creep."
"Crazy."
The things his classmates called him on that day stopped that line of thought. For a few moments, He just stayed there, looking at the message.
- "No offense, but why don't you go with your brother?"
- "My brother has his own things to do, and can't be bothered to go."
And didn't he understand that well? That might not seem like something the pres would do, but then again his brother also treated his own friends differently from how he acted when dealing with Yuu, so there's that.
"*sigh*. Well, it's not like I have much going for me now. Might as well go with her. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her just because I didn't want to watch a movie and she went anyway. And besides, it's probably not really a date."
Yuu Ishigami is acting weird.
- "Sure, what's the movie?"
After that, she informed him that they were going to watch "Frozen Rose", a romance slash action movie that was about a woman that almost died after falling into a river, and while she was fortunately saved by a random passerby, she ended up amnesiac, or did she? Anyway it seemed like a nice movie, and it's not because the title had a flower in it! He then told her her that he would probably go there a little earlier to buy something for himself, and they decided to meet at about eight pm, eat something, buy his videogame, and then watch the movie.
And finally, back to where it started. Now that he is waiting for her at the train station, Yuu Ishigami is confused because...
"Wait, this is not really a date, right?!"
Weren't you the true love master?
Today's winner: Kei Shirogane (A/N: She got Ishigami to agree to a date, without actually inviting him to a date)
Kei was mentally screaming during the whole train ride, excited about her first date, though if an outsider were to look at her, they would most likely get scared by how intense her stare was at the moment.
