Note: Across the Spider-Verse is out! Reviews seem to be good so far. Go see it!

Poor Spot. Gotta suck to be him. Wonder if his origin will tie into the Collider Accident in the first film? Would make sense. Might write him into this once I see the film...

Spider-Verse: A Tangled Web We Weave

Jefferson Davies raised his eyebrows at his Captain, "A Spider-man liaison officer?"

Captain Jeanne DeWolff nodded, the woman the acting head of the 'superhuman' division in the New York Police.

(The police department and Jefferson, of course, were unaware she was ALSO in the employ of the Kingpin. She was damn careful not to let any of that be seen, and almost everyone thought she was a good cop.)

"Mind you, I'm not totally sure how this would work," Jeanne admitted, "it's not like we can mount a Spider Signal on the roof."

"Heh," Jefferson nodded. "I guess the Mayor is pushing for it?" he guessed.

"You got it," Jeanne agreed.

"Well, I'm up for it," Jefferson agreed. He paused, "Has the Mayor's office decided if we can go after Kingpin's men?"

"Remember, don't call him that publicly," Jeanne cautioned. "His lawyers are on standby."

After the heat from the Collider Incident died down, Fisk's lawyers had started threatening lawsuits over ANY use of the 'Kingpin' name. Even the police had been reminded Fisk was an 'fine, upstanding citizen' and mistreatment of him might result in a civil rights complaint.

"Well, we KNOW that Kraven, Electro and Scorpeon are in town," Jefferson noted.

"They haven't committed a crime, at least not one we can arrest them for," Jeanne noted.

(At one point, it had actually been illegal to have artificially engineered powers, other than in Government service. When Kraven first returned to the US with illegal augments, he was arrested on the spot. However, various challenges to the law led to it being overturned.)

"And no one they've roughed up will testify," Jefferson agreed.

Kingpin was mostly using his new squad to keep the gang bangers and street level drug dealers on line. Because most of them were criminals already, they weren't interested in testifying against their bosses. Or too scared they'd die because of it.

"I thought this stuff was supposed to be SHIELD's job," Jeanne joked.

In the New York office of SHIELD, Gwen Stacy sneezed.

"Huh?' Gwen shook her head and went back to reading a report.

"Well," Jeanne shook her head, "keep a eye on it. AND on Spider-man."

"Got it," Jefferson nodded.

"Web fluid," May provided him with the cartridges.

"Thanks," Miles put them away.

"Why did I have to hear about your upcoming science fair from Liv?" May teased.

Miles looked a little embarrassed, "We're just doing a small robotics project, that's all."

"Still," May pouted.

"Did Peter enter a lot of them?" Miles had to ask.

May smiled fondly, "Oh yes. He would build the craziest things... he got in trouble with the school over the momentum powered launcher be built."

Miles raised his eyebrows, "Really?"

"He ended up adapting it to fire his Spider Tracers," May noted.

"I guess you would generate a LOT of power swinging across the city," Miles agreed. "Is that part of the systems in the web shooters too?"

"Yep," May agreed.

Miles hesitated, "Did Peter keep records on the various wierdos he fought?"

May looked curious, "Some, yes. Why?"

"Because I had a run in with a dude claiming to be Spider-man's greatest enemy... the Kangaroo," Miles deadpanned.

May snorted. "He also fought the Grizzly," she added.

"What is it whith animal themed villains, anyway?" Miles wondered aloud.

May shrugged, "Anyway, I'll download his files and give it to you next time. Is a floppy disk okay?"

"What," Miles blinked.

May laughed, "Kidding. I'll get a high capacity drive..."

Riri Williams frowned at her two assistants as she said, "What do you MEAN you have to leave?"

"Riri, we've been here HOURS. I want dinner!" Kate Bishop complained, having been recruited for the group.

"Oh," Riri looked at the clock, realizing how late it was.

"Mind you, this is gonna be awesome," Ken Leeds noted, the young man assisting with the work to try to get into Riri's pants.

(He was unaware that Riri was asexual, and wasn't interested in dating. Frankly, she was more interested in tech, really.)

"We'll need to adjust the sensors and servo response," Riri muttered, "I don't want to accidentally put someone through a wall."

"Let's pack up for tonight," Kate urged them.

"Right," Riri gave in, and they powered down the equipment and locked up.

"Wannsa get dinner together?" Ken suggested to Riri.

"I want to go over the circuit diagrams again," Riri waved that off.

Kate paused, "I forgot my purse, lemme go get that."

"Girls," Ken rolled his eyes as he stalked off.

Kate hurried in, then pulled a camera out. She quickly photographed the diagrams Riri had done, as well as the circuit boards and other items she had been working on.

Kate's parents were HYDRA, and she had been raised a true believer. Her parents had gotten her into Horizon Academy in hopes of grabbing newly developed tech for HYDRA, and so far she hadn't had much luck.

"But prototype Iron Man tech? Mom and Dad are gonna freak," Kate purred softly.

Putting her camera away Kate grabbed her deliberately forgotten ourse, then hurried out, no one the wiser that she had done that.

Or so she thought.

Liv Octavius looked amused as she said, "Rhona Burchill has my Octopus Rig? HA!"

"It doesn't bother you?" Scorpion asked, surprised.

The two weren't exactly friends, but they knew each other. Liv had helped refine the cybernetic harness that Scorpion used, including fixing a painful feedback issue. Scorpion felt he owed her one, more or less.

Plus he thought it would be amusing to stir up trouble.

They were sitting in a coffee shop in territory controlled by Scorpion's gang. The area was surprisingly quiet, most because no one was stupid enough to cross him.

"No, not really," Liv admitted. "I was never that suited to this sort of work."

"Yeah, you were never as crazy as the rest of us," Scorpion admitted. He gestured to his new human looking legs, "What do you think of my upgrade?"

"Looks like Deathlok tech," Liv nodded. She sipped her coffee, "Is that Rhona's work?"

"Her and Fisk, yeah," Scorpion agreed.

"You should have someone you trust go over the upgrades," Liv noted. "Knowing them they installed a kill switch, to shut you down or off you."

"They don't trust me?" Scorpion yelped.

"Have they ever?" Liv shrugged. "Remember what happened to Prowler."

"Huh. Point," Scorpion conceded.

"Watch your back," Liv added, "Rhona's a sociopath, she will happily do whatever Fisk asks."

"Unlike you?" Scorpion teased.

"I had SOME lines I wouldn't cross," Liv shrugged, getting up. "Be careful," she added as she walked away.

Notes: I had Jessica Jones in earlier, forgot there already was a Ultimate version who was a normal student. Just assume there are two women with the name.
