Summary: The will of a hero is strong, yet unwavering but all good things must come to an end, even at the cost of one's Heroic Will. Imprisoned and blamed for a crime he hadn't committed, Bell seeks a way out of his predicament so that he can live without fear of being hunted by the people he once looked up to.
6: Departure
=Kali's home, Telskyura=
Bell woke up from the sun peeking through the curtain at his face, he groaned quietly as his entire body was sore. As his eyes opened more, getting used to the light he tried sitting up, grabbing his side trying to stabilize.
"Mmh" A moan came from her right. He peeked over, confused by the sound, only to see a tanned face, and his hand on her stomach.
Confusion filled Bell's eyes before the night's events filled his mind, making him slump down again, contemplating what happened.
Bell's thoughts drifted towards a certain golden locked adventurer as his heart sank
'I can't believe I did that… I feel like I betrayed her but… No, she didn't give me a chance to explain' Bell thought, shaking his head, but still knowing that deep down, his feelings for her were unchanged, proven with his skill, Liaris Freeze.
Bell sighed but was about to get up, before Bache grabbed his arm, hugging it tightly in her sleep with her level 6 strength.
"You're kidding right?" Bell muttered, looking to his right as well, seeing Argana sleeping. Bell relented and stayed sitting up, but not before making sure of one thing he was afraid of.
He pulled up the quilt, looking between his legs before sighing in relief.
"Thank god it's still attached" he muttered
"I'm surprised too after yesterday" Bell nearly shrieked as Bache's voice invaded the quiet atmosphere, now sitting up and looking at him.
"Yeah, you were wild" Argana, now awake, commented.
"Like a rabbit" Bache finished as Bell went completely red in the face, trying to speak, but only incoherent words escaping his mouth. Bell gave up on explaining things and just stayed quiet.
"You know, with how many times we did it, it's pretty much guaranteed we're pregnant" Bache said leaning in. Bell knew that was false, they only did it once. They were trying to get a reaction
Bell jumped up from the bed, before waving his hands at them
"We had a deal, only until you're pregnant. Nothing more!" Both knew he had a point, until it was proven they weren't pregnant, which was highly unlikely considering that they were the most fertile the day before alongside the amount of times he spilt inside them.
"Alright. We will get checked up. Kali should be waiting in the main Hall with the girl. It seems to be noon" Bell's eyes snapped to the window where sunlight peeked in. They were right, no, it was past noon as the sun was slightly leaning over to the west, meaning it's past midday.
Bell quickly got clothed, before leaving, rushing to the place they told him Kali waited.
Bache and Argana followed him after getting clothed too.
Bell slammed a set of large doors open, before seeing amazons standing to the sides as Kali was by her seat, Adrienne being held by an Amazoness at her side. Soon after, Bache and Argana walked in too, heading towards a specific amazon, who seemed to inspect them using some form of magic.
Bell turned his eyes to Kali, opening his mouth
"Let her go. I followed your instructions to the letter, now it's time for you to fulfill yours!" Kali smirked, before gesturing for the woman who finished inspecting the sisters to step forward.
"What are your findings?" Kali asked as the Amazoness answered
"The two are pregnant, Kali" This caused the goddess to smirk and the two sisters to smile too.
"Good, then as per the deal" She gestured to her side and the amazon holding Adrienne nodded, pulling out a knife.
Bell was about to run forward, thinking she was going to kill her, but the knife cut quickly, and the bindings came loose. The amazon pushed the girl forward as she began sprinting towards Bell, who caught her in his arms.
"Are you alright? Did they hurt you?" Bell asked as he checked her for any wounds. The only noticeable things being the red of her wrists. Adrienne shook her head before Bell took off the rope around her mouth, preventing her from speaking.
"No, , but I was so scared…" She said through tears, as Bell pulled her into a hug
"I know… I know, it's all alright now" He soothed as tears came forth as she started crying into his chest.
The spectacle before them surprised Bache. How could someone be so close to another having barely known each other for a month, and barely speaking. An ache filled her heart, wondering what it would be like to be held like that. To be protected, cherished. The concept filled Bache's mind, causing an unknown feeling that twisted her gut to make itself painfully known.
Bell on the other hand started glaring at Kali.
"You touch her again, and I will make sure your world burns!" Kali smirked, before nodding.
"I swear upon my pride as a deity, that I will never interfere with your business again, though I can't say the same for all my children. It's impossible to control them all" Bell's eyes narrowed at that, but he knew he couldn't say anything to retort as it made sense. She had an entire country as her familia. No one, god or not, can keep an eye on all that without the Arcanum.
Bell grabbed Adrienne, lifting her up and holding her close to his chest as she continued crying before walking out without another word.
=Telskyura, Residential Area=
Bell opened the door, carrying Adrienne inside, before setting her down on the sofa. She had stopped crying about half way here, but kept a death grip on his shirt.
She reluctantly let go before staring up at Bell.
"I'm sorry… Because of me…" she began, but Bell interrupted
"Nononono, it's not your fault. Can I ask where you live? Your Aunt must be worried sick" Her eyes sank at the mention
"She's gone… They… They…" Bell's eyes widened as he understood, he hugged her again, feeling even more anger at the amazons, though a part of him couldn't blame the sisters completely. It was their nature to seek a strong male to mate with. It was mainly Kali who went overboard. It was her his anger was really aimed at.
The door to the study opened as Erebus came out. His eyes locked on to Bell before he walked towards him
"So… how'd it go?" Erebus asked, already knowing the obvious answer.
"I lost, and the sisters are now pregnant" Bell said bluntly as he continued to hold Adrienne.
"Well, at least the girl is safe. That's something. I wouldn't put it past Kali to have killed her" Bell nodded and understood. He pulled Adrienne back as she looked up.
"What do you want to do now?" Bell asked as Adrienne looked down.
"I want to leave this place. The only other place I could go is… The Far East. I have a cousin there that's older by a couple of years" She said as Bell nodded.
"Alright, I will try to get a carriage to take you there," Bell reassured her as she nodded.
"Thank you … You're the closest thing I have to a father right now" Bell froze for a second, thinking about the fact that he will be a father in 9 months. He's going to be a father right after his 15th birthday…
"Are you coming with?" She asked as Bell snapped out of his daze. Bell looked at her, contemplating it. Well… it wasn't a bad idea, he had said he didn't want to go to The Far East but after what happened, it would be better than here.
"Maybe I will" Bell said as he and Erebus nodded at each other.
"I'll pack, why don't you come with me and help me while Bell looks for a ride?" Erebus suggested. Adrienne reluctantly agreed, understanding that Bell had to go.
Bell left with the rest of their Valis, hoping to catch someone before they headed to the Far East.
=Telskyura, Marketplace=
"Hey! Wait up!" Bell called out to the 5th person so far. The Amazoness turned around and quirked her eyebrow at Bell.
"Yeah?" she asked Bell as he jogged up to her
"I was wondering where you were headed. I'm looking for someone going to the Far East" The woman put her finger on her chin as she thought about the request.
"Well… I'm heading to a remote village that needed supplies because of monster attacks recently but… There is a foreign trader from the Far East currently by the Merchant Guild" She said as Bell tilted his head in confusion. Merchant Guild? He guessed it was something that wasn't well known yet.
"Oh, Thank you miss…"
"Farona"
"Yes, thank you Miss Farona. Where is this Merchant Guild. Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions" Farona waved her hand at him while scoffing lightly
"Don't worry, you just don't know it. We can't know everything. Anyway, the merchant guild is a couple of blocks from here beside the green painted building that stands out. Just head in that direction" She pointed in a direction as Bell nodded, thanking her again before taking off.
He quickly made his way and noticed the green building she mentioned. It really stood out like a sore thumb. Everything was mainly either Beige or another bland color so it's quite comical to see someone have their building painted green. Next to it was a building that was larger, but not overly so. It was made of bricks instead of the usual clay substance that was usual around here.
Bell also noticed a wagon that stood out. It didn't have the usual gloth with supports that covered where the supplies were. It was quite thin, but taller, entirely made of wood. The covers seemed to be made of wood too that resembled curved roofs, and at the front of the top piece was a hanging lamp that was round in shape, glowing almost orange.
'Guess that's the Far Eastern style. At least it means they are still here' Bell headed inside at the thought. He quickly noticed that the place seemed to be a mix of cultures. Telskyura may be known for not accepting men apart from breeding or if they are strong enough, but they did allow merchants to stay for a short amount of time since they still need things that they can't get here.
Bell started asking around for the Far Eastern trader, and not before long, he found him sitting down and inspecting a map. He had long black hair, with a maintained beard. He was wearing a purple shirt above a black tank top, a thin jacket slightly hiding the purple alongside black pants and brown boots. Bell sat down opposite of him but somehow, the trader didn't even notice him. Bell waited for a little while before he decided to intervene.
"Excuse me, sir" Bell called out, causing the Far eastern trader to jump in surprise before latching his black eyes onto Bell's rubbetile ones.
"Jesus lad, don't scare an old man like that. Might put me to an early grave" Bell looked quizzically at the man. He didn't look that old to be honest, 40 at most and 30 at the youngest.
"I am older than I look, lad. By the way, it's rare to see a boy here. Guess you're that rumored rabbit" Bell groaned at the mention of his resemblance to the lagomorph.
"You would be right, but please… Don't call me a rabbit, it's kind of embarrassing" Bell said with slightly tinted cheeks. He had gotten used to the amazons and native people calling him that since they had no tact, but for an outsider to do it caused embarrassment to boil over in him.
"Alright, but what can I do for you?" The man asked as Bell's composed himself
"I was wondering if you could take me and two others to The Far East" the man looked Bell over before leaning back.
"Well, I am heading home tomorrow at 5PM… and I have some spare room, enough for 4 people tops…" The man said as Bell nodded. He felt a 'but' coming any second now.
"But it will cost you" Bell nodded
"How much"
"I'd say nothing less than 25 000 per person. It's a long trip and food isn't free" Bell nodded and understood. The far east was what it insinuated where it was, far to the east, but it was also far up north compared to where they were now, which was south-east of Orario. The trip would take months since the way there isn't all roads. There is a boat trip to shorten it, considerably since the continent connects to the far east far, far up north, which is the main reason they are situated north in the far east. It gave them a strategic hold over any invasions as well as who came and went.
If they traveled that route instead of the boat one, even if Bell ran with everything he could, it would take half a year to get there.
"Alright, that would be 75 000 Valis. I think I can manage that. I can pay you 70 000 right now and get back to you with the other 5000 when we go" The trader nodded, before a grin was plastered on his face.
"You've got a deal, lad. Pleasure doing business with you" Bell nodded and handed the 70 000 valis he had brought before heading toward the canal district, he had one final fight to do before he left this place.
At that thought, Bell looked around. This place had almost become like a second Orario, but alas, Kali had to go and screw things over with her amazons. Why can't he be left alone?
Bell continued towards the Canal District, pondering on his apparent inability to be left in peace.
=Canal District=
"Bell! What can I help you with?" Amy exclaimed as she laid eyes on her favorite fighter.
"I was wondering if there was any fight I could participate in before tomorrow night" Amy, motioned that she had to check before sitting down in her chair. She pulled out a schedule, sifting through it before stopping at one of the pages.
"Let's see… It looks like there is one open fight with a level 3 tomorrow at 12PM" Bell nodded
"As long as the pay is better than 5000 Valis, I'll take it" Amy waved her hand and scoffed
"You'll get your usual share. 15 000 Valis as we agreed upon when you first came to me" Bell smiled at her, admiring her honesty with keeping her promises. They never did write a contract.
"Anyway, is there any other fight you would like to sign up for?" Amy asked, looking up from the schedule.
"No, and unfortunately, this will be my last. I'm leaving Telskyura. After what happened… I can't stay here" Bell said, dejectedly as Amy sighed
"I expected this, and I understand. I may be an amazon, but what Kali did was downright barbaric. I never did like that way of life" Bell looked at her skeptically. She apparently didn't understand the irony in the statement, though she was 100 times better than Kali, but what she did with the fighting ring wasn't all that much different.
"I hear you. It was fun working together, Amy. Even though fighting others for others' entertainment isn't my style… It was fun" Bell gave her his golden smile as a form of premature goodbye, even though they would see each other once more the next day, since Bell was almost guaranteed to win.
"It was… Little Rookie" Bell froze, before his eyes bore down on Amy.
"Oh don't give me that look, I won't judge. I've known for a while now, but I already figured the rumors and accusations were false. You're not the type of kid to kill your own goddess and intentionally endanger an entire city, so you're good. I won't tell anyone" Bell sighed, before putting on a smile again
"Thank you… and see you tomorrow" Bell said before he turned around, waving at her before exiting the doorway.
=Marketplace=
Bell was walking towards his home, passing the marketplace. He was deep in thought from the revelation that Amy knew who he was. If she knew, then most likely Kali knew. That could spell trouble since there had been rumors in Orario before everything happened about Kali and Loki having a showdown in Melen.
If those two ever talked, the information may slip and he would have the entire Loki Familia breathing down his neck, heck, maybe even the entirety of Orario. That was the last thing he needed.
What he was currently pondering about, was a way to conceal his identity. A mask most likely, but then he would need a nickname. He definitely couldn't use Little Rookie, and as Bell learned after playing games with Hestia Familia, he was god awful at coming up with names.
The best example was him thinking something like 'Burning Fighting Fighter' was a good alias, before an adventurer, Celty got that name exactly, and hearing people say it just made Bell cringe. It was an eyeopener for him that 'Little Rookie' wasn't that bland of an Alias, it was actually pretty good.
As Bell was thinking, he didn't even realize he was walking straight into someone. Both he, as well as the amazon fell to the ground with a thud.
"I'm so sorry miss, I wasn't watching where I… was… looking" Bell said, freezing halfway through as he laid eyes on just who he walked into. The amazon seemed surprised too as who was right in front of her.
Bell's eyes went from surprised to scowling
"Bache…" He said, trying hard to not show the venom in his voice. Bache flinched slightly
"Bell Cranel…" She said in a low voice as she looked down on the ground. Was that… shame? Regret? Why?
"What are you doing here? Aren't you cared for by Kali to make the Child inside you grow strong" Bell said, his voice cracking with disgust at the mention of her pregnancy.
"...ry" Her words were inaudible, only the last part was heard as Bell stood up, dusting himself off.
"What was that"
"I'm sorry... " She said quietly, still looking down. Bell scoffed as the notion was ridiculous. She was an amazon, what happened was their lifeblood, the meaning of their lives for them.
"Oh please, why would you be sorry? You got what you wanted" Bell said as he turned around, crossing his arms.
"Yes… It was what I wanted but… I can't stop feeling like something is missing…" Bell peeked his eyes back at her, listening to her words.
"I got so confused seeing you care so deeply for that girl… someone you've barely known for a month. I envy that, our Amazonian lifestyle doesn't allow us to care for one another, as the next day they could be either dead, or standing in front of you in the arena, standing against you and survival" Bell's eyes softened at that. Feeling sympathy at how cruel that really does sound, and the worst part. It actually made sense. If you lived in a reality where every day was a fight for survival, to get stronger and you had to fight and kill everyone else for survival, you would close yourself off as you wouldn't want to expose yourself to the emotional pain.
Bell frowned harder, as he made frustrated noises.
"Guh….Gha, fine" Bell exclaimed causing Bache to look up in surprise.
"I can understand your position slightly, but there is one thing that doesn't make sense. What about your sister, you're always close to her. You seem to have a bond" Bell asked. Bache only shook her head at it, she looked up as her face returned to its normal calm self, having calmed down.
"Me and my sister don't have any sort of relationship at all. I have suspected that Kali is planning on having us fight in the ring soon as well" Bell was shocked at that. He knew the place was cruel, but to pit sisters against each other in a fight to the death is just on a whole new level.
"Does Kali have no remorse?" Bell muttered to himself after scoffing. Bache just shook her shoulders.
"Anyway, what are you doing here Bell?" Bache asked as Bell contemplated if he should answer honestly, but before he could answer, Bache butted in again.
"I did see you talk to a far eastern trader earlier. Are you leaving?" Bell froze. Had she been in there when he talked to him? Had she been following him. Bache seemed to have noticed his confusion.
"I was on an errand for Kali when I saw you talking with the man" Bell contemplated for a while before nodding. He was hopeless anyway at lying.
"Then allow me to come with" Bell blinked once, then twice before rubbing his eyes again for good measure, but the world around him stayed the same, and so did the words.
"...Are you serious?" Bell asked, before another frown made itself known
"I am leaving to get away from all of this, why would I allow you to come along?"
"The child…" She put a hand on her stomach "I don't want this life for her… I don't want her to have to fight without a choice. It's a life full of fear and cruelty. I don't want her not knowing who her father is" Bell fell into a stalemate. He wanted to get away from all of this but… he words were so sincere and heartfelt. You could tell that she truly meant the words and quite frankly, Bell knew the child had nothing to do with what happened here, and abandoning it just because of his own feelings would make him no better than his own father, who abandoned him as a baby after his mother died from her sickness, leaving him with his grandfather.
'I'm starting to understand Tiona and Tione…' Bache thought.
"... Okay… I guess that's as good of a reason I can ask for. I will ask Adrienne and my god first. The final decision is theirs. Meet me outside the Merchant Guild tomorrow at 4PM, and bring 25 000 Valis. It's the price for the trip, though be ready in case the others say no" Bell said as Bache nodded, understanding.
They split ways as Bell sighed and rubbed his brows. What had he done now?
=Meanwhile, Residential District=
Erebus and Adrienne had started packing right after Bell left. Erebus being himself gave snarky remarks at Adrienne whenever they talked about anything. The two had fallen into a comfortable rhythm. Erebus had quickly learnt that Adrienne didn't really have anything that would be considered personal belongings. All that had been destroyed when she was taken, so they settled with packing whatever they needed here.
Before they knew it, they had finished packing as Erebus stood, listing things off that they had packed.
"...The map, check. Bell's weapons, check. Bell's Armor, check…" as he did this and Adrienne lifted the items for him to check them off, Bell walked inside, closing the door behind him.
"Ah, You're back. Any luck?" Erebus asked as Bell nodded
"Yeah, I got a ride for tomorrow at 5PM…"
"There totally isn't a 'but' in there" Erebus snarked at Bell as he gave Erebus a look.
"But… I kind of ran into Bache" Erebus whistled at that as Adrienne looked concerned.
"What happened ? She didn't hurt you, right?" Bell shook his head, walking up to Adrienne before patting her head.
"No, she gave a request, and it's up to you guys if we accept or not" Both gave Bell a look. Erebus nodded at him to continue
"She wanted to come with us to The Far East. Her reasoning was that she didn't want the baby to live here. She wanted her to have a choice if she wanted to fight or not, and to be able to have the chance to know her father" Erebus chuckled slightly.
"Well, it isn't a bad reasoning" he said. Adrienne seemed more reluctant though.
"But she hurt us…" Adrienne said, Bell nodding in understanding but deciding to be mature.
"Hey, Adrienne. You have to consider her perspective of this. She has lived her entire life in a world that is kill or be killed. That coupled with her natural instinct to have a baby with a strong man was what caused this situation… and Kali's cruelty. You also have to think of the baby. Has she done anything wrong? Does she deserve to live a life here, where she will have to fight or die?" Adrienne shook her head instantly, knowing the answer at heart.
"Then that's your answer. If there is one thing I know, following what you believe, is something you should always do, or you will never be true to yourself" She nodded again
"Okay… she can come with" Bell smiled at her, feeling a surge of pride in her for her choice, throwing away petty grudges or misunderstandings to see the bigger picture… even with a little help. The room fell into a silence, which was soon interrupted.
"Well, when did you get so mature?" Erebus asked, a smile grazing his lips.
"I-I don't know! I just said what was on my mind!" Bell asked, slightly flustered, as Erebus laughed.
"Well, I'm going to make dinner, before I turn in for the night. I do have a fight to pay off the last money for the trip" Bell said before leaving the room, where Erebus chuckled and Adrienne giggled at how flustered he had been.
=Outside The Merchant Guild, 4PM=
Bell, Erebus and Adrienne arrived at the guild, and true to Bell's word. Bache was leaning against the frame of the doors, waiting for them, a purse of Valis attached to her belt.
Bell walked up to her, before addressing her
"Bache, are you ready?" Bache looked up, before nodding
"Good… by the way, how did you get Kali to agree to let you go? You're one of her only two level 6" Bell asked
"I simply said that I felt that the child would become stronger if she was with you. She may be the goddess that rules over Telskyura, but she still has to follow our laws and customs. She couldn't reject my decision as by our custom, we decide where our children will become the strongest they can be" Bell nodded, before motioning for her and the other two to follow him inside.
They did so and the group quickly made their way to where Bell had met the trader earlier. The man was waiting at the table he was at yesterday and smiled up at Bell.
"So these are the others… though I thought there were only two more?" He asked as he eyed the unknown faces.
"I know. But she really wanted to come and you did say there was enough space for 4. She has the payment and I have the last of mine" Bell responded before sliding 5000 valis across the table. Bache did the same with her 25 000.
"Much obliged. Well, we do have some time. The guild staff is currently filling the last of the supplies needed. Why don't you tell me about yourselves?" Bell looked nervous at the request, but Adrienne spoke up first.
"I'm Adrienne! My mommy left a couple months ago, and I came here with my aunt… but she's left now too. So I'm going to the only family I have left in the Far East" The man nodded at her before sitting back.
"Well, guess I'll share some too. My name is Asim and I grew up in a local village close to the capital, Kitzumara. I had a quiet and boring life as I mostly played with the children, before deciding to explore when I became an adult. I became a merchant as I often came into contact with exotic items for different places like Rakia, Altena, Zolingham among other places. Eventually that led me here" Asim finished as his eyes turned to Bache
"I already know of you, Bache Kalif, level 6 amazon of Telaskyura. How about you?" He motioned for Bell.
"... I… I used to be an adventurer in Orario until things went downhill and I was forced to leave. I traveled here after and it was good for a month… until it all went downhill again, getting us where we are" Bell said, peeking at Bache at the last part.
"Damn kid. Hope the Far East works out for you" Bell nodded in thanks as an Amazoness came up to the group
"The job is done" She simply said as Asim nodded and thanked her.
"Guess that's our queue to leave" Asim said as everyone got up. Bell picked up his stuff, and they headed out to the carriage.
Once they got settled, they headed out towards the roads, heading towards the Far East
=Orario, 1 month ago=
The entire city was shocked when the explosion was heard from Daedalus street. The Loki Familia were no exception. Riveria had her book, slammed up into her face. Ais tripped as she from the shock as she had been swinging her sword and Finn's papers were thrown all over the place.
Finn quickly looked out the window, seeing smoke in the background towards Daedalus street.
'Monsters again' Finn thought, before springing into action. He grabbed his spear at the side, and rushed outside, calling out to all the high levels.
Once gathered, they quickly made their way towards Daedalus street, preparing for the worst. Everyone froze when a pillar of light was sent up into the sky, signaling a god being sent to heaven, but what confused them even more, was when the light flickered, like it was interrupted by something.
"Tempest, Ariel" Ais uttered as she sprang forward, faster than before. The others barely had time to catch up before Ais stopped, staring down at the ruined street. Finn looked around, eyes wide before Tiona jumped down. Everyone followed as they looked around.
"Argonaut-kun?" Ais froze at the name, staring at the person in front of her in shock and disbelief.
"Bell…?" she asked, trying to force reality to change, to twist into something else, but nothing happened.
Finn's head had snapped towards the place where Tiona was looking, only to see Bell Cranel, covered in blood, surrounded by severed body parts. He looked completely broken, unable to understand anything.
Finn looked to the side, seeing some people looking over the scene, before turning back, understanding what had to be done. He nodded towards Gareth, who pulled out a pair of cuffs that they had on standby in case they needed to arrest someone.
"I'm sorry, but with your recent action when monsters attacked the surface and now this, you are under arrest for serial-murder and endangering the populous…" Finn said, contemplating if he should add the last part, since he knew Bell wasn't someone to do that… but yet, he has shown he was capable of things he never thought he would do earlier so…
"...alongside potential murder of a goddess" He could see the confusion in Bell's eyes as his mouth snapped open
"WHAT!?" He screamed out in confusion "I DIDN'T KILL HER!" Before he could continue, Ais sprang forward at her fastest, using her scabbard to hit him on the back of his head with a disappointed look on her face, but he also noticed the hurt and sadness in her eyes as well.
"Ais! That wasn't necessary" Riveria said as she walked forward, before casting her healing magic. He was a level 3 after all, and a full blown hit from a level 6 could do some real damage, even with a scabbard.
"Anyway, we should lock him up in Twilight Manor temporarily as the Guild most likely will fail to hold him. Ouranos has been too close to Bell Cranel lately to allow that to happen. Also, we need to figure out what's going on" Finn said as the others nodded. Gareth put him on his shoulders and they quickly left, letting the guild handle the cleanup.
=Twilight Manor, Next day=
"This is strange…" Finn muttered as he looked out the window.
"Indeed… the crowd is too compulsive in their demands. It's too sudden of a change. Something is pushing them towards a certain opinion" Riveria added as Finn nodded
"We need to get to the bottom of this. They won't even give us the time to wait for him to wake up so we can make a god ask him questions. If this keeps escalating at this rate, the mansion will be overrun" Finn said as his thumb throbbed.
The door opened as Raul stepped inside
"Captain, the finished documents have arrived" Finn took the documents Raul handed him and skimmed them over.
"Kauhea Forbande… Life sentence… forced labour. Well, it's a mild sentence compared to what the crowd is calling for" Finn said with Riveria nodding in agreement at the side.
"Um… There is also an Eina Tulle here to see 'The Little Rookie'" Raul added in a low voice as Finn nodded
"Alright, send her down. I will meet her there" Finn got up as Raul ran downstairs. This entire situation is abnormal, the people aren't usually this vocal, or this demanding. They definitely aren't like this to Ikelos Familia, even though they have been named responsible for the monsters. Finn also added kidnapping Bell and his goddess to that list as that seems more believable than him taking his own goddess to Daedalus, killing Ikelos before killing her…
When he arrived down by the cell Bell was in, Eina was already there, pacing back and forth. When she laid eyes on Finn, she sprung forward instantly.
"What is all this talk about Bell-kun killing his own goddess?" She almost screamed out. Finn put his hand up to get her to stop talking. She probably knows because she's his advisor, otherwise that fact has been tightly held back from the public.
"I understand your confusion. Currently the charges put on Bell Cranel is Serial-murder, endangering the populous and killing a goddess-" He was cut off by Eina before he could finish his sentence. Finn noticed that Bell seemed half-conscious, as his level 6 senses picked it up immediately.
"Are you one hundred percent sure? If we are just a little off here, we will be sentencing an innocent boy to life in the worst jail known to man!" She exclaimed, emphasizing the Innocent part.
"Indeed, we arrived on the scene and found Cranel-san surrounded by corpses and dismembered body parts, covered in blood and holding a knife which the circumference matches that of the cut on Hestia's throat" Finn said matter of factly as Eina sighed heavily.
"I just don't see his motive. Why would he kill his own goddess within a building that's owned by a foreign familia? It just doesn't add up" Finn nodded at the sound reasoning, which he had found odd as well.
"Indeed, but as you should know better than me, the public is in outrage. They want him gone, forever and if we don't do something soon, they will start screaming for his head. They would already be doing that if we hadn't managed to hide the fact that Hestia perished there and came up with a cover story" Finn argued, making Eina flinch
Finn pulled out the finished documents for Bell's sentence and handed it to Eina. She read it from top to bottom, before blinking
"Is this…" she said as Finn nodded
"Indeed, It is the finished paper on Bell Cranel's sentence. Lifetime in Kauhea Forbande, and forced labor while inside the prison. Don't worry, this is a very light punishment for the accused crimes. Normally a person would be sentenced to death but because of the cover story, we managed to tighten it up a lot" Finn said, giving Eina a look that told her not to slip up, or there would be hell to pay, for all parties. Eina sweat dropped before sighing heavily.
"Fine, Bell will serve life in Kauhea Forbande and do forced labor there. It's only a little better than execution" Eina looked dejected, her ears perking down and eyes downcast and lifeless. Finn felt bad for her, she looked like someone had taken her entire life away from her. Before he could say anything else, she had left with the documents.
Finn assumed she took them to copy the information onto the bulletin board, to announce the sentence Bell Cranel had gotten. She would off course leave out specific pieces such as him being a suspect in his goddess murder, which Finn was going to investigate further, among other things.
He pinched his nose and sighed. If only they could get one months rest, everything was happening too fast to keep up.
That's chapter 6 for you! Don't worry, POV in Orario will continue in the next chapter as it's dedicated to everything that happened in the city during Bell's escape to when he left Telskyura.
I also wanted to comment upon a lot of hate from the last chapter. I'm going to make a couple of things very clear, and if anyone complains upon the same things, I will just assume they haven't even read the story properly and assumed things that weren't true.
People have been complaining about things such as Bell gladly accepting to do things against his principles (You would know this is false if you actually read the chapters), that Bache and Argana should have instantly defeated Bell (I will explain further below) and that Bell's Argonaut should have defeated Argana (Shall also explain below)
Firstly, Bell hasn't done anything against his principles. I admit that I originally poorly represented Bell in chapter 3, but I have since modified the chapter to showcase what I originally wanted to convey, him reluctantly accepting what had to be done and trying to avoid killing at all costs. Also, he didn't want to have kids. It was forced upon him by keeping someone captive, basically putting a knife to her throat. It would go against Bell's principles to abandon her, and he knew he couldn't fight an entire country to save her, so he followed along, and when he lost, he knew he had to do it to save the girl. It was the only way in Bell's mind. It also says specifically in the text "Bell reluctantly climbed inside, dreading it, but couldn't help feel a primal part of him urging him on despite his protests." What part of that is him gladly accepting it?
Secondly, Bache and Argana couldn't have instantly defeated Bell because of two reasons. His stats above S, and Scourge. These two together makes him strong enough to fight as a high level 5. Bell has proven previously to be able to fight someone stronger than him (Dix) Though with much difficulty, which is what he had.
This is the reason Argana couldn't instantly defeat him when she went all out from the beginning. His reaction and speed was fast enough.
And lastly, the Scourge Argonaut kick, didn't defeat Argana for one simple reason. The majority of the effect missed her, only a small part hit. It sent her flying, even though most of the force sent waves of air, strong enough to crack the Arena walls.
I have to thank the people that actually read the story and decided to see where it went before making assumptions, this story isn't a story about rape or debachery. It's a story that delves deeper into the dark and gnarly sides of the world in Danmachi. The anime and light novel makes the story seem so bright, happy and not cruel, even though there are many parts that really are, which were mainly introduced through Sword Oratoria. I'm only exploring those parts more. In fact, I can say this. Last chapter was quite literally the last planned mention of unconsensual intercourse.
Anyway, that's enough for my rant. Thank you all for reading, and I hope to see you all, next time!
Psst: for those that asked, there won't be smuts in this story.
