I don't own Disney's The Owl House. I do, however own the Main OC. Hope you all enjoy my story on this lovely show.
Chapter Seventeen
Another day at Hexside, another day of learning magic. Today, memories were being pulled out in Photo class. Danielle and Willow were paired together. Grabbing the memory tweezers, Willow pulls memory after memory from Danielle's ears.
"Ooh, that feels funny," said Danielle, rubbing her ear slightly.
"Memories of the Human Realm, I'm so excited," said Willow, looking at the photos. "Is this your boyfriend back home?"
"What?! No!" said Danielle, blushing. "That's my cousin Izumi-nīsan."
"Sorry, he looks vastly different from you," said Willow, still looking at the memory. "And are the buildings in the back… I don't know… short?"
"My cousin lives in Japan so he takes more after his father," replied Danielle, pointing at the memory. "The reason why the buildings are like that is because I was at Tokyo Tower that day and Izumi-nīsan was trying to help me overcome my fear since we were so high up."
"How high is this… Tokyo Tower?" asked Willow, looking at Danielle.
"The two-story main deck is at the height of 490 feet," replied Danielle, staring at the memory. "Then there's the smaller top deck at the height of 819 feet."
"Yikes, that high," said Willow, shocked.
"Yeah, it's tall and Tokyo Skytree is even taller," said Danielle, looking at Willow. "I was nine when I first went to Japan. Aunt Reina thought it best to have me over that summer break."
"Why?" asked Willow, looking at Danielle.
"It was a little under a year since mom left and Uncle Kenneth died," replied Danielle, looking at the floor. "Dad agreed with Aunt Reina with that little vacation only if they kept a vigilant watch on me."
"So… you were still basically hurting," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "And your dad and aunt thought this could help."
"It did somewhat," said Danielle, looking at Willow. "I got to actually meet Aunt Reina and her family."
"Don't they come over to where you are?" asked Willow, looking at Danielle.
"Japan is on the other side of the world and is mostly reached by plane," replied Danielle, looking to the side. "That… and Aunt Reina and Grampa had a falling out. Grampa did not like that she fell for what he calls an Asian and moving there, basically disowned her."
"Your Grampa is really strict," said Willow, looking at Danielle.
"That's Grampa for you," said Danielle, rubbing the back of her neck. "There's more story behind Grampa but not today."
"You don't look so well in this one," said Willow, looking at another memory photo.
"Age four, appendicitis," said Danielle, remembering that day. "Did not like at all. Glad it happened before I actually started kindergarten."
"Oh, my dad had to have his removed when he was young as well," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "Guess humans and witches aren't that much different somewhat. What about tonsils?"
"Yup, tonsils can be removed as well," replied Danielle, looking at Willow. "Had mine taken out at age six. Again, it was awful and lemon lime jello sucks… to me at least."
"Hehehe, oh wow, is this your mom?" asked Willow, looking at another memory before touching Danielle's braid. "You look so much like her, guess that explains the color of your hair right here… and half your eye color."
"Yeah, mom was… really beautiful," said Danielle, really looking at the picture of her mom. "I miss her so much. Hmm… that's odd. Why are the edges of the photo slightly misty?"
"Oh, well this is interesting," said the Photo Teacher, looking at the memory Danielle was holding. "Looks like a memory when you were visited."
"Visited?" said Danielle, looking at the Photo Teacher. "What do you mean?"
"As in you were sleeping and this person visited you from the other side," replied the Photo Teacher, looking at Danielle.
"But my mom is alive," said Danielle, before looking back at the memory. "This was the night mom left."
"Really now," said the Photo Teacher, looking at Danielle. "The only other thing is your mom had an out of body experience to visit you. Do you remember anything when this took place?"
"Well, I was eight when she left. Mom had put me to bed since dad was out on a journalism assignment for the newspaper," replied Danielle, thinking back to that day. "It felt like I was awake cause I could actually feel mom's hug even though I was actually sleeping."
"You may want to ask your Oracle Teacher about this," said the Photo Teacher, looking at Danielle. "Sounds like something in that area of magic."
"Okay," said Danielle, watching the Photo Teacher walk away before looking at Willow. "You're curious about the other two photos, aren't you?"
"Yup," replied Willow, looking at another photo. "Looks like we both enjoyed swings when we were young."
"Yeah, that was a gift from mom and dad when I was three," said Danielle, looking at the photo. "I got that swing set in mid-spring. Dad and me came up with a game at one point, come here and go away."
"Sounds like fun," said Willow, before looking at the last memory. "What's this about?"
"Apparently that kid lost her father recently and her mom couldn't do Halloween that year, they had also recently moved to Gravesfield as well" replied Danielle, looking at the photo. "So, as a good kid, I walked over and gave her one of the big candy bars I had and she gave me the bracelet that I now wear these days. I wonder how she is nowadays."
"That was really nice of you," said Willow, before picking up the tweezers. "Now it's your turn to pluck at my memories."
"Okay," said Danielle, grabbing the tweezers before cupping Willow's ears. "Don't worry, I'll be gentle."
"Kinda tickled," said Willow, feeling her memories being pulled.
"There we go," said Danielle, being gentle with each memory pulled. "That should do it. Don't want to pull too many memories out."
"As you work, note that some prints have greater clarity than others. These are moments that evoke a strong emotional response," said the Photo Teacher, talking to the class. "But, if you damage the prints, you'll damage the memories themselves! Be extremely careful."
"Uh, is there a way to put them back then?" asked Danielle, worried for her memories.
"There is," replied the Photo Teacher, looking at Danielle. "We can put them back if you like before the end of class."
"Please and thank you," said Danielle, looking at the Photo Teacher who smiled back before looking at the last of Willow's memory. "Would you feel better talking about it? About Amity that is?"
"No, I'd rather do this," said Willow, flipping the photo around. "That's my motto, after all! "Out of sight, out of mind.""
"Okay, I'm not going to push the subject," said Danielle, looking at Willow.
Before class completely ended, the Photo Teacher had put Danielle's memories back within her. Heading to the cafeteria, Willow and Danielle get their lunches before convening with Gus.
"Interesting," said Danielle, looking at a chalkboard with various pictures pinned on. "Class assignment?"
"My interview for journalism class is due tomorrow! I'm supposed to choose someone "interesting, accomplished, and noteworthy"," said Gus, getting a little frantic. "People aren't meant to be all those things! Curse your need for perfection, Gus!"
"Calm down. You'll be able to figure it out," said Danielle, before looking at Willow. "Uh, Willow, are you okay?"
"When did it get so hot?" asked Willow, sweating before pouring water over herself. "Uhh, hi! I'm Willow! Remind me of your names?"
"Did her pupils go completely black?" thought Danielle, really looking at Willow's eyes.
"This is serious journalism, Willow," said Gus, looking away from Willow. "Clowning around will get you nowhere."
"I don't think she is Gus," said Danielle, looking at Gus then Willow. "It's like her memory… her memories!"
"Danielle, wait!" shouted Gus, pulling Willow along into a run after Danielle. "Where are you going?"
"To Photo class," replied Danielle, running down the hall before coming upon said class and opening the door revealing Amity in the room blowing on photos that were aflame. "What did you just do?"
"Hi," said Amity, nervously looking at Danielle. "I-I saved as many as I could! Ugh! Why would they make memories so flammable?"
"Have I always had this crazy thing? Blap, blap!" said Willow, slapping her face gently then leaning on Danielle and Amity. "Eeee, heee, heee, I can tell we're gonna be good friends!"
"Whoa there," said Danielle, preventing Willow from falling. "Okay, I think Eda can help with this. We'll just have to let Principal Bump know we're leaving first."
As just like she said, they got conformation from Principal Bump to leave school. Heading to the Owl House, Danielle was able to explain to Eda what had transpired.
"So, this is the Owl House," said Amity, looking around the living room.
"Yup," said Danielle, looking at Amity.
"And you... sleep here?" asked Amity, staring at Danielle.
"After a bit, yes," replied Danielle, looking at Amity. "Let's concentrate on Willow here now."
"So, you set Willow's memories on fire and erased everything," said Eda, looking at Danielle and Amity. "Even minor damage can have huge effects!"
"Ahh, a chair for sitting!" said Willow, bumping into the couch before hand standing onto it and flopping upside down on the couch.
"Yep, her brain's burned up real good," said Eda, pointing at her head. "Damage like that can change everything about a person. Willow may never be the same."
"I got it!" said Willow, correcting her sitting position before looking at King. "Ooh, a furry fruit! I'm gonna peel it!"
"What?" asked King, being picked up by Willow. "What is happening?!"
"Ah! Willow!" said Danielle, grabbing King out of Willow's hold. "Not a fruit."
"Nap time," said Eda, putting Willow to sleep with a sleep spell.
"Sleep spell..." said King, yawning before cuddling into Danielle's arm falling asleep.
"I didn't cast it on you," said Eda, staring at King.
"Yeah, who cares?" said King, going back to sleep as Danielle laid him on the couch.
"Is there any way to help Willow?" asked Danielle, looking at Eda.
"There is one way, but it's terribly dangerous and partially illegal," said Eda, before looking at Danielle. "So you're in the right place! I'll send you into her mind to fix the damage."
"In her mind? As in a mind dive?" asked Danielle, staring at Eda.
"Yup, it won't be easy. You have a lot to fix in there, 'cause it's a mess! Yep, whoever did this to Willow showed unbelievable disregard for her safety, downright despicable," said Eda, before looking at Amity. "Oh, right, it was you. Anyways, Danielle, who's going inside with you?"
"Maybe I can help!" said Hooty, opening the front door. "I'm pretty good at getting stuck inside people's heads!"
"This is someone's brain, not a night club!" said Eda, closing the door magically. "Two max."
"I think the answer is obvious," said Danielle, before looking at Amity. "You're fixing what you messed up."
"Willow might not want me in there," said Amity, looking to the side.
"You're going," said Danielle, glaring at Amity.
"O-Okay," said Amity, slightly scared. "I'll do what I can."
"Alright! Bold choice, taking the girl who caused the mess," said Eda, before summoning a bell in Danielle's hand.
"And this is for?" said Danielle, looking at Eda.
"When you're done, ring that and I'll cast you back… oh, and keep an eye out for her "Inner Willow"," said Eda, looking at Danielle and Amity. "She's the gatekeeper of emotions and memory. She might help ya."
"Got'cha," said Danielle, gripping the bell.
"Now, here we go!" said Eda, casting the spell sending Danielle and Amity into Willow's mind.
"Eep!" said Danielle, landing within Willow's mind a little unsteadily.
"She's got a cute eep," thought Amity, looking at Danielle before looking around. "Where's her Inner Willow? Do you really think it'll help?"
"Don't know, let's see if we can just fix Willow's memories," said Danielle, staring at the various trees with pictures notched into them. "These must be memories."
"I guess," said Amity, looking at a memory.
"Well, let's get started. How do we even get in?" asked Danielle, touching the memory and seeing her hand make it ripple. "I think I figured it out. Let's go."
"Wait up," said Amity, following Danielle into the memory. "Lake Lacuna! This is where Willow and I took swimming lessons! The ash must be from the fires. Our fort! In the dunes!"
"I'm listening," said Danielle, walking after Amity.
"One time Willow wanted to play hooky from our swim lessons, so we built this!" said Amity, handing a plank to Danielle. "We knew the swim teacher would be on the prowl, but Willow said she'd protect us with an illusion spell."
"Something is missing if the memory hasn't repaired itself yet," said Danielle, looking around before spotting something. "Amity, there's something under your foot."
"There," said Amity, grabbing what was a tiny flag and placing it on the fort.
"That did it," said Danielle, seeing themselves out of the memory and looking back at the tree holding it.
"Willow was a... late bloomer," said Amity, seeing the memory play itself.
"I don't see anything wrong with that. Every one grows at their own pace," said Danielle, walking towards a memory that had Amity on edge. "Let's get to the next memory."
"Wait! Uhh…" said Amity, pointing towards a different memory. "How about this one?"
"Amity, this one needs fixing as well," said Danielle, looking at Amity. "And we're not splitting up just to fix the memories up faster. I have no idea what needs to be placed to fix them… and it looks like ones with you in the memories… … odd."
"I bet if we just do a few more simple ones then we can do the more complex ones," said Amity, before thinking. "Please buy it."
"I guess that makes sense, just to get the hang of it," said Danielle, before walking over. "Alright, fine, let's do this one."
"Yes," thought Amity, going into the memory with Danielle.
And so, with each memory that Danielle and Amity went into, they were able to fix said memory. From a bad hair day during a yearbook photo. To Willow playing on the swings with her dads. To one where Willow and Amity were being chased out of the 13+ romance novels section in the Bonesborough Library. And last, was Amity and Willow going onto a roller coaster ride.
"Ugh," said Danielle, seeing Young Willow getting sick on the roller coaster. "That must not have been pleasant."
"Yeah, Willow threw up a lot that day," said Amity, looking at Danielle. "That's when you knew she was havin' fun."
"You okay there?" asked Danielle, looking at Amity.
"Yeah, I just..." said Amity, looking back at the memory. "I can't believe I almost erased all of this. I really messed things up."
"I don't know what happened in the past for you two to end your friendship," said Danielle, looking at Amity. "But don't you think it's time to grow past that and slowly rekindle that friendship. Cause it looks like you still want to be her friend from the looks of it."
"I just..." said Amity, before seeing a Firey Monster stepping out from behind a tree. "What's that?"
"What's what?" asked Danielle, turning around to see nothing before looking at Amity. "I don't see anything but that doesn't mean anything. You did so I'll be keeping my eyes open. Let's fix up this memory next, looks like a challenge to me."
"Wait…" said Amity, seeing Danielle go into the memory.
"Ew ew ew-ew-ew! It stinks, it stinks!" said Danielle, partially coming out of the memory, gagging. "Why does it stink?"
"Yeah, that one's hard to explain," said Amity, running over and climbing into the memory.
"Man, am I glad to be done with that one," said Danielle, moments after fixing that memory and shaking egg goop off her hand. "Now we still have that one memory to deal with."
"What memory? Oh, that memory," said Amity, nervously looking at Danielle. "But let's skip it! Where's Eda's bell?"
"Amity, you got to stop that. All of Willow's memories have to be fix," said Danielle, staring at Amity. "There's a reason you're avoiding that memory. Does it pertain to what happened that ended your friendship with Willow?"
"Did you ever think maybe it's none of your business?" asked Amity, pointing at Danielle before sniffing the air. "Is something... burning?"
"I think I've spotted what you saw," said Danielle, staring at the Firey Monster. "And it does not look happy."
"Hide, hide, hide!" said Amity, pulling Danielle behind a tree as the Firey Monster runs pass and ignites a memory.
"It's angry but for what?" said Danielle, seeing the aflame memory. "Anger is an emotion, so is that the Inner Willow?"
"That's the Inner Willow?" said Amity, staring at Danielle. "Please call Eda, I don't wanna be here when it comes out!"
"Amity, I think there is more to this," said Danielle, before Amity grabbed the bell off her person. "Amity!"
"Why won't she answer?" asked Amity, shaking the bell harshly.
"Run!" said Danielle, grabbing Amity's hand as the flames from the memory grow.
"Why is Inner Willow destroying all the photos?" asked Amity, seeing Inner Willow destroying more memories.
"Uh, Amity, I think I figured it out," said Danielle, looking at each memory around them. "All those years of bullying you've done to Willow and what just happened in the Photo classroom was the burning point for Inner Willow. It's after you."
"What?" shouted Amity, shocked.
"Run!" said Danielle, grabbing Amity's hand before running. "Okay, think. Anger is being represented by fire here. In order to deal with fire without fire taking over we need a vast amount of another element to oppose it… sand and water."
"Wait, what are you thinking?" asked Amity, as they come upon a certain memory. "We can't go in there, I'm in there!"
"Trust me on this one," said Danielle, going into the memory with Amity before setting off an earth glyph to make a large pitfall.
"I don't get it," said Amity, looking at the large pitfall. "How will this…"
"Fire needs fuel, heat and oxygen to burn," said Danielle, preparing another earth glyph. "To put out a fire, we need to remove one of those and since sand is not even combustible, it will block the oxygen in the air from reaching the fuel and the heat."
"I think I get it," said Amity, before seeing Inner Willow leap into the memory then into the large pitfall.
"Time for a sand bath," said Danielle, setting off the earth glyph covering Inner Willow up completely.
"Pfft," said Inner Willow, popping her head out of the sand. "That was not nice."
"You really are Inner Willow," said Danielle, helping Inner Willow out of the sand. "Care to explain?"
"I was. Love, sadness, fear," said Inner Willow, before her eyes went completely purple and glaring at Amity. "I used to be a being made of all emotions. But ever since you set Willow's mind on fire, all I can feel is anger!"
"Look, Amity," said Danielle, looking at Amity. "I think that memory you're avoiding is the key to solving this mystery. You're going to have to confront it."
"But…" said Amity, before staring at the ground. "You're right. I can't keep running away from it."
"Would you like to come with?" asked Danielle, looking at Inner Willow. "You're very much a part of this."
"There," said Inner Willow, summoning forth the memory. "You want to figure it out. Go right ahead."
"Come on Amity," said Danielle, extending her hand to Amity as she nears the memory. "Let's get this over."
"Okay," said Amity, slowly going into the memory and landing on a bed.
"Was there a party going on?" asked Danielle, looking around before tripping on the blanket. "Eep. Not a word."
"Not saying anything," said Amity, looking away while holding back a giggle.
"Let's take a trip down memory lane," said Inner Willow, setting off a flash of flames around the room making the memory go off.
"You have to get out, Willow, now!" said Young Amity, walking into the room.
"Wait, why?" asked Young Willow, following Young Amity.
"Because… because…" said Young Amity, not finding the words to say.
"Is it because I still can't do magic?" asked Young Willow, grabbing Young Amity's hand. "Amity, I'm… I'm sorry I got us in trouble at the beach, I just… I can't get the spells right."
"Well, yes, that… that is why!" said Young Amity, ripping her arm away. "Because you're a weakling! You can't do magic so I don't wanna be your friend. Now, go!"
"Oh my," thought Danielle, seeing the memory fade away. "That can't just be it. There's got to be more to it."
"Then you let your new friends pick on her for years. All because you thought she was weak," said Inner Willow, before floating and her eyes going completely black. "Well, now I can erase all that pain. After all, out of sight, out of mind."
"Amity!" shouted Danielle, seeing a ring of fire around Amity's feet before staring at Inner Willow with glowing light purplish pink eyes. "You're going too far right here."
"Wait! Please," said Amity, the ring of flames disappearing. "Before all this started, there…there was something else."
"Knew there were more," thought Danielle, seeing the door open and revealing what looked to be Amity's memory. "Wait, how is Amity's memory coming forth?"
"Amity?" said an Adult Male Witch, staring at Young Amity.
"What is Willow doing here? She wasn't on the guest list for a reason," said an Adult Female Witch, staring at Amity as well.
"But, she's… she's my best friend!" said Young Amity, looking at the two adults.
"Nonsense, Blights only associate with the strongest of witchlings," said the Adult Male Witch, before an image of a young Skara and Boscha were shown. "You can choose a new friend from one of the suitable companions we invited."
"But they're mean!" said Young Amity, crossing her arms over her chest and looking away. "Just because you work with their parents doesn't mean I have to like them!"
"Good children don't squabble, dear," said the Adult Female Witch, staring at Young Amity. "Sever your ties with Willow, and if you don't..."
"Then we will," said the Adult Male Witch, making Young Amity gasp.
"We'll make sure the girl is never admitted into Hexside," said the Adult Female Witch, staring at Young Amity. "Now go, and try not to make a scene."
"Willow, you were never too weak to be my friend. I was too weak to be yours. I can't take back what I've done, but I can promise you this," said Amity, grabbing Skara's invitation out of her pocket. "I won't let Boscha and her gang pick on you ever again! I'm not actually gonna rip it because it's a real butterfly, but you get the gesture, right?"
"I do," said Inner Willow, grabbing Amity's hand. "I think Willow should keep her memories of you. The good, and the bad."
"Me too," said Amity, smiling.
"Okay, mystery solved," said Danielle, walking over. "Only for another mystery to open. Are you a noble? Is that why, what looked to be your parents, did not want you being friends with Willow because of her lower status?"
"We're not nobles but we are part of the higher hierarchy here on the isles," replied Amity, looking at Danielle.
"Ugh, my brain is fried," said Danielle, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Let's finish our work here."
The three of them put their heads together. A flash of light later, they're back in the main forest of Willow's mind. Danielle and Amity place the repaired birthday photo in the tree. Young Inner Willow runs behind them, making them turn around. Inner Willow walks out from behind a tree, no longer surrounded by pink flames, holding Young Inner Willow's hand. Amity waves at them while Danielle smiles and waves as well. Young Inner Willow turns to leave and walks face-first into a tree. She giggles and runs off. Inner Willow waves and follows her. Ringing the bell, Danielle and Amity were brought out of Willow's mind and back in the Owl House.
"What happened while we were gone?" asked Danielle, seeing the living room in disarray. "Where's Gus?"
"The kid's fine," said Eda, walking away grumpily with King. "He's just dead to us."
"Guess Gus found someone to interview and it wasn't them," said Danielle, before looking at Willow waking up. "Hey there, remember us now?"
"A friendly flower?" said Willow, before laughing slightly. "Ha! Just messing, I remember everything!"
"Glad to have you back Willow," said Danielle, pulling Willow into a hug.
"I remember what you did too," said Willow, staring at Amity. "What you did in there. I can't say we're friends, but it's... a start."
"I'm glad that you two patched it up," said Danielle, seeing Amity about to leave. "Later Amity."
"Danielle, question: how did Amity happen to see the photo I hid in class?" asked Willow, looking at Danielle as Amity left the Owl House.
"I really don't know," replied Danielle, rubbing the back of her neck. "Could be that it slipped off the wire and landed on the floor."
After bidding Willow bye for the night, Danielle searches for Eda and King. Spotting them in the kitchen, Danielle sits down before looking at Eda.
"Hey Eda. About tonight and the mind dive," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Think we could do one with me?"
"Why would you want to do that?" asked Eda, staring at Danielle.
"To search for the voice in my head," replied Danielle, looking at Eda. "Whoever this voice is, knows what's happening and if we can question it, then maybe we could prepare for whatever is going to happen."
"Point taken," said Eda, looking at Danielle.
"But not tonight," said Danielle, resting her arms on the table. "At a later date though."
"Whenever you're ready," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "Let me know."
"Gladly," said Danielle, petting King.

(Set after Ch 16)
"Kid, what are you doing?" asked Eda, seeing Danielle place a unique cork onto a potion bottle with a long wire and a lightning glyph attached.
"I'm being a little experimental," said Danielle, setting off the lightning glyph and seeing bubbles coming out of the prongs on the cork.
"Oooh, bubbly," said King, looking at the bubbles in the potion.
"Almost… … there," said Danielle, seeing large bubbles before stopping the lightning glyph. "That should do it. What do you think?"
"Whoa, this looks more potent than normal. And the color is much lighter," said Eda, examining the potion. "How'd you do that?"
"It's called electrolysis back home," replied Danielle, looking at Eda. "I may have also remembered an episode from a certain anime. I was hoping to make the elixir better for you."
"Wait, this is the elixir?" said Eda, looking at the potion. "Dang kid, you didn't have to do that."
"Yes, I do," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "You're doing so much for me by teaching me magic and such. It's the least I could do for you."
"Well, thanks kid," said Eda, ruffling Danielle's hair.
"You're welcome," said Danielle, smiling.

"Here we go," said Danielle, holding an icing spatula. "One wuzetka done."
"This is a wuzetka?" asked Hooty, staring at the cake before him.
"Yup, glad your realm has ingredients similar to the ones back home," said Danielle, looking at Hooty. "I did say I'd make you some for your birthday."
"Oh, happy days," said Hooty, grabbing a knife before cutting and plating three slices and giving one to her, Eda and King.
"Well, at least he gave us each one before eating the rest of the cake," said Eda, watching Hooty devour the rest of the cake.
"Delicious," said King, wagging his tail after eating a piece of cake.
"Happy birthday to me!" said Hooty, cake all over his beak before belching. "Excuse me."
