A few days had passed as team 13 made their way back to konoha at a leisurely pace. Giving Naruto plenty of time to think upon their last mission and his actions in said mission. His carefully crafted mask that he had spent years creating to cover up his pain and emotions had slipped allowing kurenai to see the monster beneath the surface. Luckily for him his older teammate seemed willing to hold on to his secret for now.
The trio including Rin walked towards the Hokage tower to go over there mission with the Hokage. Once they were inside the office Rin began going over everything that had occurred on the mission with everyone giving their own account as to what had happened Naruto conveniently left out the part about who his opponents had begged for his life with him ruthlessly killing him out.
"I see so a rival nobleman of the Hozu clan hired rouge nin to assassinate Akira I'll have to inform the Daiyomo immediately thank you team 13 you are dismissed you may take the next few days off y'all have earned it. Naruto would you please stay" The 4th Hokage informed team 13 as they began to file out each member bowing before Minato before exiting the office.
"What's up dad?" Naruto asked confused as to the reason he was left behind. Minato sighed heavily already knowing that his conversation wouldn't be received well by his son.
"Son I'm proud of you already as a Genin you fought and defeated rouge Nins with high bounties in the bingo book I wanted to be selfish and be the one to inform you that you and Yakumo have mine and Rin's permission to participate in this years chunin exams coming up!" Minato said truly proud of his son as he watched his red and blonde headed son jump up in joy from the news.
"Awesome thank you Dad I promise I'll win the whole thing especially with your training!"Naruto exclaimed excitedly but began to calm down as he looked at his fathers face the smile that was once there had turned into a guilty look that Naruto was all to familiar with.
"Son I would love to train you truly but because of the chunin exams to have better relations with konoha, kumo has agreed to let their full jinchuriki train with Mito, I and your mother must be there to ensure your sister's safety I'm sorry but I'll have to assign you a jonin to train with." Minato said calmly wincing at how fast the smile on Narutos face had turned into a rage induced frown.
Naruto stomped towards his fathers desk slamming both hands on it as he spoke.
"What!! why do both of you have to go I need you too Dad, Mito isn't your only kid this is the biggest moment of my life!! I'm tired of sacrificing for her I've done it my whole life sometimes I wish she was never born y'know maybe then I'd know what it was like to have parents that prioritized me!!"

Minato's hand rang out on fatherly instinct none of his kids would wish death upon another in his presence. Naruto looked up at his now standing father a hand moving towards his redding cheek.
"You know I thought if I fought and clawed for your love and attention you and mom would eventually recognize my efforts but I realize now that was a child's dream you both will never love me like my siblings! Thank you for the nomination Hokage-sama I'll inform my teammate." A angry Naruto bowed to Minato then quickly began to leave.
"Naruto that's not true... I didn't mean too... wait!!!" Minato called out to his sons retreating form but was answered with the slam of his office doors.
'One step forward and five steps back good going Minato!' The blonde Hokage sighed to himself deciding to keep himself busy turned towards a large pile of papers but before diving in he bent down opening a wooden drawer in his desk pulling out a bottle of some of the finest liquor in Konoha Hiruzen had left it there just for times like this. Minato brought the bottle to his lips downing a few gulps before he turned to his paperwork.
A red wooden door slammed with a resounding thud as a streak of blonde and red darted through the namikaze l-Uzumaki estate.
"Menma is that you what have I told you about slamming the door and running through the house!!" Kushina's voice called out from the kitchen as she walked out into the hallway surprised to see the tear stained face of her oldest son "Naruto... what's wrong!?"
Kushina moved to hug her son but Naruto tore her arms from around him forcefully"Don't waste your time worrying about me I'm sure Menma or Mito need the attention!"
Naruto began to move away to his room but his arm was caught by the strong grip of his mother unable to wretch himself free with a sigh he turned around and looked up at her now worried face.
"I can worry about them some other time right now my oldest is hurting in front of me and I'd like to know why?!" Kushina asked.
The words of his mother were kind but still seemed to stir the pot of Narutos anger.
"You want to know why I'm hurting you really want to know why!!" Naruto yelled at his mother who recoiled slightly in shock "No matter what I do I'm always second no third to Mito I've had to be her shield her entire life the villagers used to love me I had friends I even had a damn annoying fan club but that ended when I naively agreed to take on my sisters burden well you know what I DONT WANT IT ANYMORE!!!"
Kushina's face went pale as she remembered all the times that she had focused on Mito exclusively and her training with the nine tails chakra she rarely stopped to think to grab Naruto on a weekend to train or hangout how they used to when he was younger. 'He feels abandoned'
"I just completed an A rank mission as a Genin , Dad approved of my participation in the chunin exams I was so excited thinking now I'd finally get to train with my parents but no you two are always so focused on Mito you couldn't stop and think that maybe your oldest son that's already a ninja needed your help instead of someone that hasn't even graduated the academy yet!!!" Naruto yelled breathing heavy from his rant tears streamed down his face.
He tried to pull away again to be anywhere but around his mother but Kushina pulled him into her chest a bone brushing hug as he felt tears fall atop his scalp.
"My Sochi I'm so sorry I'm so sorry I can't explain everything now without your father but I promise now that you're eligible for chunin you deserve to know we both love you so much I know you can't see that but please believe me!" Kushina said as she continued to hug Her son who finally relented allowing his tears to flow freely hugged her back.
[Next day trading grounds]
Naruto met with his team the next day at their usual training ground. Rin had yet to show up As she was unusually late.
"Yakumo are you ready to get first at the exams?" Naruto asked excitedly the previous days emotions were no longer on his face replaced with a bright smile.
His brown haired friend blushed slightly as he looked at her with those intense violet eyes "ahem First place is going to be you Naruto kun I couldn't picture anyone being able to beat you!"
Naruto smiled confidently with one finger under his nose "well—"
"You two need to focus on the exams and grow up you could both die in there and you're making jokes!" Kurenai stated coldly to both her younger squadmates the memory of her squadmates deaths flash through her mind the buzzing of wings and the explosion of a massive ball of chakra if it wasn't for her dojutsu being able to stop the jinchuriki in a Genjutsu for her to escape she would of died as well.
"I promise we'll survive and win Kurenai Chan believe it!" Naruto said as he felt a weird feeling like he was supposed to have said believe it many more times in his life than he had.
"Good cause I'll kill you both myself if you die in there I just started to like you." Kurenai said as her beautiful face broke into a grin causing the other two present to chuckle and smile as they began to lightly spar with one another until Rin arrived.
Naruto sat in the classroom as the jonin known as Ibiki sat with his back to the class waiting for the time for the first exam to start.
Naruto was sat in the middle of the classroom not by his choice the chunin stationed around the room picked everyone's spot to separate the teams. Yakumo was seated behind him 3 chairs to his right Naruto snuck a peek behind him for the what felt like 12th time at his teammate. Her long wavy brown hair that was braided on one side per her clans customs she was in a new out fit today one that assented her curves and height. The white and blue garb was cut in a v shape giving a clear view to her cleavage from her bust down was covered in a steel mesh her lower body she wore cut off Ninja shorts that wee black in color preferring to be light on her feet over protection.
'Damn Yakumo looks really pretty today what am I thinking we're best friends nothing else could we be..' Naruto's thoughts trailed on as he found himself lost in thought staring at Yakumo until she stared right back at him as he quickly turned around feeling the heat of a blush coming over him.
"Alright times up I'm done waiting on you maggots you walk in here. The first exam starts now. You'll be taking a test filled with all the information you should know if you hope to be a chunin." Ibiki lectured the all the ninjas that remained in the class looking at a plethora of faces ranging from barely teenagers to young adults as he walked to the front of the class holding up a paper. "This will be passed out to you now. You will have 30 minutes anyone caught cheating three times by me or the proctors team will be eliminated. You may begin one way you have a test."
Naruto watched as Ibiki sat down back down at a desk kicking his feet upon it. The proctors made it to his row passing a stack of papers to one ninja at the end who passed to everyone else. Looking at the paper Naruto quickly realized he knew only a couple answers of the twenty question test, quickly filling those out Naruto looked at the other questions.
'Why the fuck are they asking me about velocities and leverages I'm a shinobi not a scientist.' Naruto thought to himself groaning as he snuck a peek around the classroom.
Two Genin from the sand village were quietly being escorted out 'Damn already the test just started.' Naruto thought continuing his scan he noticed a couple ninja slyly using jutsu to cheat. He watched as simultaneously the proctors noted in their pads.
'So that's the meaning of the test'
The Genin were supposed to cheat he supposed that made sense given that some shinobi were sent to infiltrate different places They needed to be good at gathering intel without getting caught as the consequences would be dire to say the least.
Naruto looked back down at his test a smirk growing on his face. He had no jutsu that was useful in this situation it seemed like his situation was hopeless. There are many types of ninjas and he was a powerhouse meant for the front lines he would be wasted on any mission truly relying on stealth and espionage he could do it as any shinobi should be able to but he preferred to put on a show.
Grabbing his pencil Naruto wrote "I'm a frontline shinobi espionage isn't meant for me."
Slowly the minutes ticked by as one by one people were called up and told whether they passed or failed and couldn't continue more than half of the previously almost full room had been weeded out. Yakumo had already been called up passing by the grin she shot at Naruto as she sat back down.
"Naruto Namikaze come forward!" Ibiki said his brow was furrowed at the hokages brat. The kid was powerful he had heard all about him and his teams exploits he was good ibiki couldn't knock him for that but that brat was a little to smug in his opinion.
"Care to explain why you wrote one answer across the whole test?!" Ibiki shouted at Naruto as he walked up to his desk making the classroom go silent as the sound of gossip quickly followed.
"I've been told that I'm a prodigy , as a thirteen year old Genin I could take down the average jonin in this village so maybe it's true a paper with answers i don't know in a field I don't specialize in is worthless to me." Naruto said earning gasps from some in the class behind him.
Ibiki shot up from his desk towering over Naruto as he looked down unleashing his full killing intent making many in the classroom feel queasy and on the verge of passing out.
"You think you could take me on brat!?" Ibiki asked expecting his intent to overpower the boy 'any time now I should be smelling piss..'
Naruto fought back unleashing his killing intent pouring his true feelings emotions abuse and power into his intent beating down and pushing off ibiki's intent causing the jonin to sweat slightly but quickly recovering stooping his output of intent and Naruto quickly followed as the two stared at each other a silent electricity seemed to form as the two sat unmoving for what seemed like minutes until Ibiki spoke with a grin.
"Cocky asshole I like it though it suits ya though you definitely aren't like your father that's for sure I'll you pass now go sit down brat. NEXTTT OMOI OF LIGHTNING!" Ibiki said as Naruto made his way back towards his desk avoiding the descending dark skin shinobi that eyed him as he walked past oblivious to the many eyes upon him in the room.
'So this is the Hokage's son he seem's strong if I beat him the Raikage is sure to promote.' Omoi thought.
Meanwhile a dark haired Kunoichi with a Iwa headband on her forehead peered down on the Yellow demons spawn with a loathing expression her pink eyes held a anger that wasn't truly intended for him but he would do anything to hurt the man who took her father from this world took him from her. 'I'll kill him!'
Naruto felt a hard gaze upon him looking in the direction of minor killing intent he caught the beautifully intense gaze of a Kunoichi from Iwa whom he recognized immediately. 'So that's the iwakage's granddaughter she's gorgeous apparently that nose missed a generation.' He thought to himself making eye contact with Kurotsuchi.
Violet eyes met Diamond pink as a certain energy passed between them causing Kurotsuchi's cheeks to redden slightly before her angry gaze set back on her face. 'What was that Kuro he's the enemy.'
Unbeknownst to Naruto he was being watched by watched by a young man with white hair and with a deeply cut V neck shirt that exposed most of his upper body he had red dotted eyebrows and weird rope belt tied around his waist with dark pants. 'Naruto Namikaze you've picked up master's interest and so you have mine..'
[forest of death second exam]
The remaining 16 Teams were gathered outside the tall omnibus trees of the forest of death. Loud roars and squawks pierced the air as they all waited as the second exam proctor explained the rules that pretty much their were no rules and that He just needed to grab one other scroll before his team qualified for the finals. Sounded like a piece of cake to him He was positive that Yakumo and himself would be able to defeat any ninja that they ran across.
Speaking of her Yakumo approached Naruto. "We're at a numerical disadvantaged for this part how should we play Ru?" The Burnette looked at her teammate who quickly snapped his head around towards her voice his eyes lingered on her newly exposed chest as his eye level closer due to their height difference. Blushing Naruto replied "We know that we're stronger than the average Genin team with just us so I say we should appear hapless maybe some dumb squad that doesn't realize I'm the hokages kid will come to us with a juicy scroll then victory baby!" Naruto said excitedly throwing up the peace sign causing Yakumo to laugh at him.
'The new outfits working first this morning and just now maybe he'll finally realize I like his short ass!' Yakumo thought to herself as she after their last mission Kurenai had approached her telling her that her puppy love for Naruto would go no where because he picked up on subtle signals like a rock she would have to make her feelings obvious or sit around mad while a braver girl goes after him. The final nail in the coffin was Kurenai saying if he was a few years older he'd be her type. How could Yakumo compete with her she was prettier than the stars in the magizines 'Well it won't matter I'll snag him way before then.' Yakumo thought to herself again with intense focus. she giggled innocently to her unknowing teammate." Sounds like a plan Naruto-kun!"
"Will you two lovebirds quiet down back there I'm trying to explain a life or death exam not hear the beginnings of a teenage romance!!" The proctors yelled at the two before continuing to drone on about the second exam.
Finally the proctor finished explaining as all the squads were given a scroll. Naruto carried a earths scroll sealed into a tattoo on his wrist the two man squad leapt through the metal gates as soon as they were allowed to soaring through the humid air of the forest eager to see what awaited them within.
