With their plan put into place , they went into position. Rose and Rita snuck around the back, hackles erect in anticipation. They make it around the back fence, the scent of the dogs already hitting their noses.
Rose cautiously explored her surroundings, discovering the tunnel she had meticulously created. Suddenly, weariness washed over her, causing her to pause. She cast a quick glance over her shoulder, catching sight of her best friend, Rita.
While Rose admired Rita's resilience, she couldn't ignore the fact that she was smaller in size compared to the other dogs, who possessed a more robust build. Rose couldn't help but worry that they would mercilessly attack her.
"Are you ready?" Rose inquired. "Not really," Rita replied honestly. Rose flashed a smile and responded, "Same here. Follow me,"
They maneuvered beneath the opening created by the Shepherd/collie mix and failed to notice the dogs that were confined outside in cages. Rose had not spotted them during her initial escape.
The dogs were barking aggressively, their mouths foaming with anger. At the end of the cells, the pitbull that Rose had previously attacked was there, covered in scars. Surprisingly, he wasn't barking at them; instead, he seemed terrified to be in that place.
Rose felt sorry for him and declared that they would rescue him. Rita was confused by this decision but agreed nonetheless.
They managed to enter the building, and the van alarm suddenly went off, distracting the guards. Taking advantage of the situation, they quietly made their way to the room where the dogs were kept.
However, the door was closed, so they would need Einstein's help.
"Hey Rita, can you go grab Einy? We need him to open the door. I'll stay here and keep watch," Rose requested.
"Sure, just be careful," Rita replied.
"Same goes for you," Rose responded with a grin.
Within moments, Rita returned with Einy and the rest of the gang. "Einy, knock it down!" Tito shouted, unable to contain his excitement.
Einstein backed up and charged at the door, successfully breaking it down. However, he lost his balance and crashed into an empty cell for a brief moment.
"Great job, Einy. Now let's go rescue Dodger and my brother," Rose said, determined.
They walked down the aisle, searching for Dodger, Kaiden, and the pitbull. However, they couldn't spot them, or so they thought.
Then, Rose noticed the pitbull and approached his cell. He was taken aback and jumped back in surprise. "You! What are you doing here?!" he exclaimed, moving closer to her.
"I'm here to rescue you and a few others from this place," Rose replied. However, the pitbull remained unfazed by her words. "Why are you showing me sympathy?" he snapped at her, his fur standing on end.
"Because I have empathy. I can see that you don't want to be stuck in this place," Rose responded, offering him a reassuring look by tilting her head.
For a moment, he hesitated to trust her due to past experiences with humans. But he let go of his guard and lowered his head, his intact ear showing vulnerability.
"I don't want to be here. Those humans are going to put me down because I'll never find a home. If you help me escape, I'll assist you in freeing your friends," he promised.
Rose grinned at him and responded, "That sounds awesome. The more assistance we have, the better." In an unexpected turn of events, the pitbull returned the smile and wagged his skinny tail.
"You're a pretty cool pup. You've got some great pals too," he remarked, noticing the gang standing behind her.
Tito protested, "You can't be serious about bringing this guy along!" Rita, however, insisted, "Yes, we are, Tito. He's going to be our savior," recalling her vivid memories of this remarkable dog.
Rose leaped up to the cage lock and skillfully unlocked it with her nose. The pitbull eagerly trotted out as the cage door swung open.
"Alright, what's the plan?" he inquired. "While we rescue our friend and my brother, you can keep the guards occupied. Then we'll make our escape from this dreadful place," Rose explained.
"Sounds like a plan, kid. Time to make our move," the Pitbull declared, and they continued on their journey.
"I found him!" Tito shouted, rushing towards Dodger's enclosure. They hurried over to where he was being held captive.
"Hey, guys. I was starting to think you forgot about me," the terrier greeted his friends with relief. "We couldn't leave you behind, Dodger! And we've got a new member on our team!" Tito announced, gesturing towards the Pitbull.
Dodger spotted the familiar dog and felt a sense of unease. "No need to worry. I'm here to help you guys," he reassured the terrier.
"Let's free all of you. Einy, Francis, and you, join forces to unlock the remaining cages. We're all breaking out of here," Rose instructed, leaping up and using her nose to unlock Dodger's enclosure.
Einstein proposed, "We should give it a shot," Francis suggested. The trio split up to release the others.
Dodger affectionately nudged Rose and Rita, his tail wagging with relief. "Let's search for your brother, Rose," he proclaimed.
"No, you two should escape. I'll find him," she insisted, feeling the need to handle this alone. "You can't go by yourself, Rose!" Rita exclaimed. "Yes, I can. I'll be fine. Now go before the guards catch you!" Rose commanded, darting through the pack of dogs that had been set free.
Rose successfully located the place where she was held captive and discovered Kaiden still locked in his cage.
"Kaiden!" Rose exclaimed, her tail wagging excitedly as she spotted her brother. Kaiden's ears perked up at the sound of her voice, and he turned his head, instantly jumping to his feet.
"Rose?! I didn't expect you to come for me," he said, his tail wagging in return. "I'm not leaving you here, brother. We managed to get the others out. Come on, let's go. You shouldn't spend another minute in this place," Rose said, using her nose to unlock the cage.
Kaiden hesitated for a moment before stepping out. The siblings nuzzled each other, clearly showing how much they had missed this kind of interaction. However, their reunion was cut short by the sound of a door opening.
Both dogs turned their heads and saw a guard holding a catching pole. "You! The one who got away!" he shouted at Rose. Rose growled and backed up, with Kaiden standing protectively behind her, looking frightened.
Out of nowhere, a loud and aggressive barking erupted from behind them. It was the pitbull, causing quite a commotion. The dog catcher witnessed the scarred dog leaping towards him, leaping over the heads of the shepherd mixes.
Once the dog was subdued, the pitbull commanded them to run. Without hesitation, they sprinted as fast as their legs could carry them, with the pitbull hot on their heels.
They managed to escape the building and leaped over the fence that Rose and Rita had used to enter. Rose struggled to see past the swarm of dogs flooding the streets, causing a major traffic jam. She couldn't see the gang from all of this.
Rose climbed onto a nearby truck, accompanied by Kaiden and the pitbull. From their vantage point, they observed the chaos as the dogs took over the streets of New York City.
"Run! Everyone, run!" Rose barked, urging them to pick up the pace.
"Come on, let's get moving!" the pitbull exclaimed, leaping off the truck. Rose and Kaiden quickly followed suit, making sure to put some distance between themselves and the chaos.
"We did it," Kaiden said, his legs trembling. "Yeah, we sure did. You're incredibly brave. I shouldn't have underestimated you. You weren't afraid to protect your own, no matter the cost," the Pitbull said, flashing a smile.
"Thank you, um..." Rose hesitated. "You can call me Brutus. I've never shared my name with anyone before," Brutus confessed.
"I understand. How about joining my family? We'd be thrilled to have you as part of our group," Rose suggested.
"As much as I'd love that, I prefer to be on my own. I don't do well in a pack for too long. You should go back to your own," Brutus declined, rejecting her offer.
"Hey Brutus," Rose said, tilting her head down, "I get it now. We can leave the past behind." "I'm done dwelling on it. Plus, you saved me from that place. I owe you big time. By the way, what's your name? Before we go our separate ways?" Brutus asked.
"I'm Rose. And this is my brother, Kaiden," Rose replied, glancing at Kaiden. "Nice to meet you. Good luck with your Pack," Brutus said, giving a nod.
"Same to you, Brutus. Catch you later," Rose said, wagging her tail slowly. He smiled once more before turning around and galloping away from the siblings.
"I hope we see him again soon," Rose said with optimism. "Yeah, me too. He's not so bad," Kaiden agreed. "Definitely. Now, let's find the others. They're probably in Central Park," Rose said, turning around and sprinting towards Central Park, with Kaiden following closely behind.
We finally get the pitbull's name that Rose has attacked months ago and he's not a bad guy.
