"Hello there." Speaking aloud.
'General Kenobi.' Internal thoughts / Also can be used as 'finger' quotes.
{It doesn't concern us.} Vritra Internal Monologue
{It affects us!?} Vritra External Monologue.
"So what does leaving darkness in its wake mean? For Abyssal Torrent."
{Abyssal Torrent, upon contact, disintegrates matter on a molecular level. This immediate effect creates a visible path of destruction, tearing through any obstacles in its way.}
{The aftermath leaves behind a pure black distortion, resembling a scar on the landscape. With time, usually just a few hours, the distortion gradually disappears, revealing the destructive path it has left behind.}
'Down to the molecular level, it completely erases what it hits? Is that similar to the power of destruction?'
"Is it similar to the power of destruction from the Bael pillar? Like Sirzechs has?"
{The power of destruction is inherently more destructive than the Abyssal torrent. The power of destruction completely annihilates any matter. Erasing it from existence instantly. It also does not leave any type of dark distortion behind.}
"It still sounds similar, though? Both destroying matter." My confusion is still prevailing in my voice.
{Abyssal Torrent, disintegrates matter on a molecular level, it does not outright destroy the matter itself. The atoms and molecules that made up the original object still exist, they simply exist in different forms or states. The power of destruction out-right erases matter entirely, leaving no trace of it.}
'Holy fucking shit…'
The revelation of thoughts and emotions washes over me, mirroring the swirling silver and indigo dreamscape around us.
"So Abyssal Torrent is like a nuclear explosion, disintegrating the matter into other forms…. While the power of destruction just fucking erases it? Fuck me, no wonder Sirzechs is so scary. Remind me to never piss Rias off."
Vritra nods his head, {Yes.}
My eyes narrowed in thoughtful consideration, my curiosity piqued by Vritra's explanations. "So, what happens to the pure black distortion? Does it contain the same destructive power as the original blast?"
{No, the destructive properties are gone. It absorbs the energy of anyone who touches it endlessly, however.}
A frown etched itself across my face as I processed this new information. "Endlessly? What does that mean, exactly?"
Vritra's mental presence seemed to take on a contemplative tone.
{The pure distortion left behind by the Abyssal Torrent functions as a kind of energy siphon. Anyone who comes into contact with it has their magic absorbed without limit. It's like an insatiable void, drawing in everything it touches.}
My mind raced with possibilities, envisioning tactical applications of such a unique ability. "So, if someone were to touch it, what would happen to them? Would it drain them completely?"
{Not necessarily. The absorption is gradual, and the effects vary depending on the individual's magical resilience. It's more like a slow drain, a constant siphoning of energy only while they touch it.}
Leaning into the details, I pressed on. "Could it be used strategically? Like creating traps or barriers with the pure distortion to weaken opponents?"
{Setting up traps with it before a battle would be difficult as it is very taxing. But using it in wave form during a battle to alter the terrain to your advantage is possible. It is something I often did combining with Eclipsing Veil and Dimensional Tether.}
"How do they play off each other?"
{Eclipsing Veil affects their senses while concealing myself. Dimensional Tether allows me to temporary displace them into an alternate dimension momentarily. Combined with Abyssal Torrent creating waves of distortion as obstacles.}
{Upon Dimensional Tether ending and shifting them back to where they were. Their senses are even more dulled - imagine being thrown to a whole new location then pulled back to your original location that now looks completely different from the dark shadowy mist which is throwing off all your senses, plus pits of dark distortions that consume your energy should you touch them.}
{That does not include using Blaze Black Flare to set up even more obstacles or barriers to direct the flow of their movement. Absorption Line to pull absorbed powers from which the torrent absorbed or them. Delete field or Shadow Prison to hinder their ability to move or express abilities even more. The combination is nearly endless. All of which is focused on weakening them, rather than create obstacles, when they come back from the tether. Unleash a fiery hell of black fire and torrent to kill them.}
"That makes sense, overload your opponent's ability to process and strike." My mind is calculating the synergy of the sacred gears even more now.
Upon hearing my conclusion about his tactics, Vritra acknowledges my statement by nodding his head in agreement.
{Indeed, but do not forget Abyssal Torrent power truly remains its initial attack of destruction. It's after effect is merely a utility to use.}
Days turned into nights and seasons cycled through their eternal dance. I found myself immersed in a relentless pursuit of knowledge and power.
The dreamscape, once a mysterious realm, became a familiar training ground, where I honed my magical abilities under Vritra's watchful guidance.
With each passing moment, the ethereal bond between us deepened, and the whispers of draconic wisdom echoed in the corridors of my mind.
I delved into the intricacies of Blaze Black Flare, feeling the pulse of its deadly black flames under my command. The veils of dark shadowy mist, the absorption line that resonated with energy, the intertwining runes shattering the boundaries of conventional magic—all became extensions of my being.
The absorption line, in particular, proved to be a formidable ally. I discovered its ability to draw in magical energies, replenishing my own depleted reservoirs extremely useful, considering I burn through my magic faster than I care to admit.
Vritra's relentless tutelage turned the dreamscape into a crucible, where the air crackled with energy and every breath carried the scent of possibility.
From the basics of spell-casting, like basic magic circle formations and incantations, to the intricate art of crafting advanced magic circles, I embraced each challenge with unwavering determination.
The daunting task of controlling lightning became a fluid dance of will and energy, the crackling bolts bending to my command.
Beyond the dreamscape, the waking world mirrored my journey. We discovered that training within the dreamscape is equivalent to training while awake, so we left the waking world for scholarly pursuits, as I had nowhere in the real world to train my powers.
The cost of training in the dream scape being my daytime was filled with mental and physical exhaustion while my magic reserves recovered and grew slowly.
Training the dreamscape is even more taxing on your magic reserves and mental fatigue than that of the real world. As your mind never truly rests while sleeping as you are training.
With no time to rest between school and martial arts, I feel like the embodiment of sloth. Something I constantly have to hide from my Okaa-san.
Vritra made me spend countless hours deciphering ancient texts and studying arcane knowledge, filling the moments I longed to spend just turning my brain off in journals.
The idyllic and tranquil days of my childhood, which I yearned for from the moment I came into this world, have now become nothing more than a faded recollection. I cherished the brief moments of peace while eating with my family or doing family activities, such as watching movies with them on the weekends.
My parents gave me much freedom. I assume it was due to me entering puberty and them realizing I was getting to the age where you distance yourself. Also that I was the oldest and Issei was still their baby, not that I am not loved. I guess I having been more independent since young. It makes more sense they would hover over Issei.
'Puberty a second time is not fun. At least I got to move into my own room. It may be a small room, but it's mine!'
Taking the room my Okaa-san used for sewing and arts of crafts was very much needed. Having my space allowed me to spend more time studying without Issei being right behind me. Also, allowing myself to have a space that felt mine.
'I didn't think that having your dreams, thoughts and every day life spent with a passenger in your mind would make it so strange feeling. I never feel alone or like anything is just mine.'
{Shall I stop helping you then?}
'No, sorry Vritra. But can you blame me?'
{No, it is only natural to want to have your own things. It is a dragon's natural instincts to horde and have a cave.}
'Is that going to become a natural thing? Finding myself having traits of a dragon?'
{I would argue that hoarding and greed are also traits of humanity. But yes, as you grow and our souls intertwine more, you may become more dragon in nature than human.}
'Okay… now you lost me. When we last talked about our souls, you acknowledged the possibility of us intertwining more than you had previously thought. How does that influence my nature?'
{Takumi, it's just a theory of mine but… That your current soul is, in part, shaped by my consciousness and the essence of my being.}
'Shaped by you? How do you mean?'
{All but theories currently. I do not know all powers that exist, especially ones that exist outside our current known universe. But to transfer life to another life, in theory, is something that is possible. Take evil pieces, while I do not know exactly how they work. They can bring someone on the brink of death back to life as a devil.}
'Okay, so how does that translate to my soul and who I am?'
{Exactly, who are you Takumi? You never existed in the story or timeline at all. How was the 'all' able to create life in another universe? Or is this his universe? A theory for another day, the point being. For him to place Takumi, the soldier, into Takumi Hyoudou. Did Takumi Hyoudou have to exist? For a being to exist, they need a soul. Our affinities are so aligned, our personalities even. I might believe that I am your soul, Takumi. That you are me and I am you.}
His words caught me off guard, and my eyes reflexively blinked in surprise and confusion. Immense weight, as if the entire world is pressing down on me, causing me to feel overwhelmed.
'Are you saying I am a reincarnated Vritra? Like I am the embodiment of you?'
{It is a theory, but I do not believe it to be as simple as you make it sound. More like you and me are not just each other, but a new being entirely. Two souls coming together to form anew.}
'Fuck… any way to test these theories or figure them out at all?'
{Not that I know of currently, not unless you can contact the 'all' somehow.}
Disappointment lingers in every breath, as my mind becomes flooded with a torrent of recent revelations and thoughts. As our conversation ended, a moment of silence hung in the air as we both drifted into deep contemplation.
In the tranquil expanse of the ethereal dreamscape, I found myself engaged in an unexpected yet light-hearted activity with Vritra—playing chess. Something Vritra loves to play. As he says, it helps you learn to think ahead. Not that it translates to actual might, but helps train your mind.
'Time for me to lose again… 0 and 200. But who's counting?'
{I am. It's 211 loses.}
The magical chessboard materialized before us, its pieces glowing with an otherworldly aura. As I moved the chess pieces with thoughtful consideration, I seized the opportunity to delve into a conversation about the intricate hierarchy of supernatural powers.
"Hey Vritra, I know you said you're between Ultimate class and Super Devil or Maou class. But just how high do the rankings go? Cause no way Sirzechs and Ajuka are just Maou class."
{Hmm, classifying someone's powers is challenging, especially in the higher tiers where it's not just about combat strength, but also overwhelming magical abilities. We could classify the rankings in various ways using sub rankings as well, but.}
{Mortal, a person with no supernatural powers, but they might still know the supernatural world. Think priests armed with prayers and words.}
{Low-class individuals with basic supernatural abilities, often young to the supernatural.}
{Middle-class, a step up from low-class, possessing more power, abilities, and authority, but still considered low in the supernatural hierarchy.}
{High-class, These individuals have more authority and magical prowess. You can associate this class with pure noble devils, not all, though. Most pure noble devils should reach this level at a minimum because of their demonic magic being solely imagination based and high magical reserves.}
{Ultimate class, here, the lines blur. This is where I would say the sub rankings would be more prevalent. Those in the realm of ultimate class are significantly or massively stronger than high-class beings. It depends on who you are comparing.}
{Super Devil/Maou class. We can also refer this to as dragon kings, cadres, angels, and more, with a wide range of power. I mentioned I'm between Ultimate and Super Devil because placing myself on that margin is challenging. At the peak of my abilities, I had the strength to overpower a Super Devil class or be overpowered by one.}
{Above that you have a complex tier, with low-tier gods high in magic but specializing in non-combat roles like agriculture, peace, and love.}
{Medium-tier gods I would consider to be gods of combat, hunting, war, etc. But lack the power for next higher tiers.}
{Next, a collision of beings like the heavenly dragons and pantheon leaders such as Odin, Zeus, so on. Their power level is hard to pinpoint, but the point stands they are well renowned for their prowess.}
{Beyond that you have high-tier gods. Beings like Indra} Vritra hisses the name {This is where I would say Sirzechs and Ajuka are. Beings within the top 30 strongest, if not top 10.}
'Fuck me, you're saying theirs that much of a gap between you and Indra, yet you still fought him?' Astonished, my mind raced with thoughts, yet I remained silent, unwilling to voice them to Vritra.
{At the pinnacle, we have dragon gods and other entities capable of ending entire realms. It's a realm of power that transcends the known classifications.}
'How the fuck do you even get that strong!?'
His words hang in the air, and I respond with a silent nod, acknowledging their weight.
"Where is Sakura ranked among this?"
{Now days, no clue. More than likely still in the Super Devil/Dragon king classification.}
"Where would you say I rank?"
{Somewhere in middle-class, still much to learn and experience. Impressive on itself for a 12-year-old, though. Speaking of which, it's time to reach out to Sakura. Check mate.} Vritra says with a satisfied grin at my loss. {212.}
I am currently standing in an empty field near my house, surrounded by the gentle rustling of grass in the breeze. As I held Sakura's business card in my hands, I couldn't help but notice the faint scent of cherry blossoms, a reminder of her name.
'What do I do?' I ask Vritra, unsure of how to use the magic card.
{Channel magic into it. I am unsure of what type of communication method it is.}
I nod my head and close my eyes, focusing my magic on the card. I can feel the card begging to warm up in my hand. Even with my eyes closed, I can feel the light illuminating. The feeling of light disappears and I feel cold and an overwhelming smell of cherry blossoms.
I open my eyes and am currently standing somewhere completely different from the field.
The icy lake beneath my feet had an uncanny coloring that seemed to shift between shades of turquoise and lavender as the sun danced across its frozen surface. Blue ice with streaks of purple running through its deep white coloring. The vast lake is a serene oasis, its surface reflecting the fully blooming cherry blossom trees that sway gracefully in the gentle wind, scattering petals in the air and on the water.
"Vritra?" I spoke aloud, fully confused by my situation at hand.
{Transportation circle, more than likely it seems. Behind you, Takumi.}
Startled by his words, I turned around to find Sakura standing there, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"Takumi-chan~ you took your time," Sakura's voice rings out, melodic and familiar. Alluring.
"Had a lot going on. Whole supernatural awakening and all." I respond, slightly unsure of how to feel.
'Vritra, can you get a read on her?' I wait for his answer, only for silence to meet me.
"Is that so? I offered to mentor you, but you stood me up. Not very gentlemanly of you." Sakura says teasingly, as she walks around me, her eyes scanning me from head to toe.
"Well, Vr- ..." I hesitate, unsure of how to bring his name up to her.
'Vritra?! Help here, how close were you two, good terms? Should I say your name?'
"Vritra, my father. Yes, I am aware you host him entirely. You smell of him, kind of."
I give a slight nod, acknowledging her words.
'Smell like him? Maybe our souls?'
"Vritra said I should wait to contact you until I was at least not a total whelp. He wanted me to be more familiar with his powers."
She furrows her brows slightly. "Just like him to not come to me in time of need." She whispers slightly, peeved. Before looking at me and her smile returns. "You certainly are not a total 'whelp'~ maybe still weak compared to others." She couldn't help but stifle a giggle, raising her hand to her mouth.
'Vritra! Speak! What do I say?' My words still met with total silence.
"Thanks? I am kind of in unfamiliar territory here, so I apologize for my bluntness. Is the offer to mentor me still standing?"
"It does~" she said, her eyes glinting with mischief, hinting at something exciting.
"Then I would like to ask for you help. I need help with experience for my powers. What do I need to do for you to mentor me?"
"Join me, become mine~." Her voice was in a low, seductive, alluring tone, her eyes scanning me up and down.
My body freezes, my eyes growing wide, my ears flush with a bright shade of red. Out of nowhere, a black flame ignites on my right shoulder, and a powerful voice resonates.
{Sakura! I told you, you can not mate until your chosen partner beats me!} Vritra's voice emerges, a deep and powerful sound that reverberates through the air. His voice carried a mix of parental instinct, pride, anger, and confusion.
My face flushes even more at the thought of mating with the stunning silver-haired beauty.
Sakura's face lights up with a mischievous smirk. "Nice to hear from you, father~ but mate? What do you mean? I simply wish for Takumi-chan to join my organization as my disciple."
Hearing her words, my heart stops beating fast as I connect the dots.
{W-what?}
'She's messing with us, Vritra. Well, using me to mess with you… I'm entertainment again, ugh.'
"You heard me. I want to take Takumi as a disciple. He is far too young to mate with right now." Her response came, devoid of any playful tone, as she dropped the teasing.
'Right now?'
{Drop it Takumi. You will not mate with my daughter.} Vritra's voice conveying this was not up for debate.
'Dropping it.'
"Jokes aside, can you explain further? What organization? What will I have to do as a member?" My voice is full of curiosity and trying to brush past my embarrassment.
"Nope~, I can not tell you anything unless you accept. If you refuse to accept, I won't be able to mentor you either."
'Vritra, thoughts? Do you know the organization?'
{The Accords? That was but a research group in your younger years. Is that the organization?} Vritra states aloud to his daughter.
Sakura merely shrugs, her indifference clear in her nonchalant gesture. "I am glad that you still remember things about me, father."
{Takumi, I am unaware of any organization she is a part of. She had a research group she ran with human magicians and some Shintō shrine maidens when she was younger. But I cannot think of a reason they would be an official organization.}
'Okay… then, can you read her? Is this a dumb idea to accept? It feels like it would be.'
{Agreed. If she will not answer questions about the organization, then we shall pick her mind on other matters to reveal her intentions.}
She playfully taps on her wrist, teasing me about my slow pace. "Tick Tock, I do not have all day," she says with a mischievous smile.
"Give me a moment to think, since you won't let me ask questions about the organization. Can I ask questions about you?"
"Interested in me?~ I told you, you're still too young Takumi-Chan~,"
I roll my eyes at her words, though my I can feel the heat in my cheeks rise. Something she noticed as she let out a subtle laugh.
"What are your intentions?" My voice ringing out in seriousness. Pushing the banter to the side entirely.
"To mentor you into someone worthy of my father's power." Sakura's voice matches my tone perfectly, still melodic and alluring. However, her playful banter and teasing have been replaced by a serious expression.
'Is that something she would do?'
{Unknown, Sakura was always attached to me and inquisitive. But I have not seen her since my sealing.}
'Noted.'
"Out of the goodness of your heart?" My eyes narrowing as I try to gauge her intentions.
"Some-what. You will prove useful to my organization. More so, I wish to see my father again. It has been a long time, I have lots I wish to say to him and do to him. Like beat him to a bloody fucking pulp until he apologies." Her voice rings out, starting soft but turning into some aggression by the end.
'The fuck did you do, Vritra?' Once again, silence greets my internal thoughts.
"That doesn't include beating me to a pulp, right?"
"No~ not unless you need an ass beating too~," she smirks with a sweet voice with a clearly underlying tone of 'I will fuck you up too if need be.'
I nod my head grimly. "Why do you want to beat him to a pulp?"
She huffs and grits her teeth, a rare display of frustration that contrasts with her usual personality or charm. "What type of asshole goes up against a god class being by himself!? Dumb fathers, that's who!" she hisses out.
{I fight my own battles! To say I need help is but an insult!} Vritra finally speaks out again.
"Well, clearly you needed help! If you didn't need help, you wouldn't have ended up split into a bunch of sacred gears! But you let your stupid pride take over and charged in head first." Her voice shaking in anger, clenching her fist.
The air hung heavy with tension, a palpable silence filling the space between them. Sakura's eyes narrow as she fixes her gaze on the flame flickering on my shoulder, while Vritra maintains a stoic silence.
'… Not to be rude, but she has a point? Well, a valid reason to be mad.'
{What was I supposed to do? somehow ignore my pure thoughts and pride, the traits that have driven my entire existence? Or better yet, bring my daughter with me to die as well? The last material thing that Indra had not taken from yet. The last thing left to me by my wife before her passing.}
Vritra's words had a profound impact on me, leaving a heavy weight on my heart and mind.
'I didn't think about that… sorry.'
{Was I supposed to let you die too, Sakura?} Vrita's words ring out and cause Sakura to flinch before narrowing her gaze again.
"Who says I-" She tried to respond, but Vritra cut her off.
{Do not lie to yourself! Neither you nor I were a match for Indra. Not even combined. I am evil dragon, a being of evil in which Indra despises. He would stop at nothing to kill me. I fought him on my terms, proud as any veritable dragon would.}
{Do not blame me for still having wishes to see you live. Of everything I conquered, horded and plundered, you are my greatest treasure given to me by your mother. I would not allow him to take it, take you from me too.}
Vritra's words hit Sakura like a punch to the gut, leaving her frozen in shock. As she contemplated her response, tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
"You could have said goodbye," Sakura speaks as tears drip down her face.
{Your stubborn like me. You would have followed me.}
"Asshole," Sakura whispers under her breath, her voice filled with frustration.
A few minutes have passed since the heart felt conversation. Vritra and Sakura have taken a few minutes to briefly say what they wished to say to each. Meanwhile, I have sat here in awkward third wheel silence.
'Now what do you think, Vritra? Do I accept her organization offer?'
{That is your call, but I do not see a reason for her to deceive you.}
"Very well, Sakura-san, I accept. I will be your disciple and join, whatever the organization is."
As soon as she heard my words, Sakura's face brightened, her playful and captivating nature returning in an instant. "Perfect~ Takumi-chan. I promise to mold you into an excellent dragon. Now, before I can be, I need you to forge a pact with me."
Sakura walks right up to me and holds up her right hand, forming an intricate magical circle. In the center, a rune unique to her glowed softly, a cherry blossom tree with a dragon sleeping below it. It seemed to dance with enchantment and illusion, echoing her mischievous nature. The outer rings held arcane symbols, each telling a story of supernatural connections and swirling patterns that whispered of illusionary prowess.
Delicate floral patterns adorned the edges, reminiscent of cherry blossom pedals. They swirled gracefully, capturing the essence of her elegance and natural affinity. Scripted incantations, in an ancient language I couldn't decipher, encircled the design.
'What do I do and why a pact?' I ask Vritra.
{It's nothing more than a formality, a provable way you show the supernatural world you gave your word on something. Summon your circle and let her take the lead.}
I summon my magic circle, still akin to what it was before. A replica of Vritras, the purple color with the draconic runes that glow gold. Planted directly in the center is the eastern dragon rune.
The moment our two magic circles make contact, there is a brief shimmering dance as they intertwine, creating a mesmerizing spectacle before fading away and releasing the magic into the surrounding air.
"Done~, thank you. With that, I can now tell you all about the Accords." Her eyes sparkling and a proud tone.
"Accords?" {So it is the Accords.} Vritra and I respond together, causing her to laugh cutely.
"But of course, I am going to give you a quick rundown. No questions until the end."
(A/N: This is slightly long winded, I apologize….. Sike I don't. Get immersed now.)
"The Accords were a group of like-minded individuals to me. We researched anything related to magic theory. Did not matter what type of theory or what your race was, the matter was simple. We conducted research on interesting things and discovered unexplored aspects of the magical world. My father, Vritra, plundered and hoarded, land and loot. I hoard and research knowledge."
"After my father's passing, I desired to do more, to be stronger. So the Accords grew in size. More like-minded beings followed suit. Magicians, dragons, half breeds, fallen, devils, humans, you name it. The supernatural realms were in chaos because of biblical wars, Indra's war on Asuras, Japan's unification wars, human world wars, and more. I, we quickly learned we can learn more about the untapped potential of magic through innovation of war."
"We originally started off by selling our services for research and intelligence. But quickly learned that we could offer a wider spectrum of services. So we offered services to the highest bidder, engaging in intelligence gathering, research, subterfuge, and providing access to the black market for forbidden goods. We also became renowned for our proficiency in assassinations."
'So the Imperial Central intelligence agency before the ICIA?' I internally snicker at my comment, reflecting on the old spy and intelligence agency of my past world.
"Central to the Accords' success was our steadfast commitment to our reputation. Operating under a strict code: never fail a contract and never betray a client. This commitment to our honor and integrity became the cornerstone of the Accords."
"While we may engage in assassinations and other harsh contracts, we long for peace and innovation. We simply capitalize on war and other nefarious means to drive our innovation and funds. Often ceasing to accept new contracts and disappearing from the world for moments when we lack a direction of research."
"Questions so far? Before I explain the rules and code further?"
'You have any Vritra. I am still trying to process.'
{None, frankly, I do not care about this. I will rest for now. Wake me when training begins.} The flame on my shoulder flickering away, leaving me alone with my thoughts and Sakura.
'O-okay?'
"No questions so far, just trying to process it all." I say with a sheepish chuckle at the end.
"Really? You are taking this well for someone finding out they will work for an organization that does assassinations, subterfuge, and other things." Sakura says, a small smile playing on her lips as she observes the lack of reaction.
"I gave you my word. Can't really go back now…"
"No, you can't now to the rules and code."
"1. Neutrality Above All: The Accords maintain absolute neutrality in all matters of the supernatural. We do not align with any faction, deity, or supernatural being, ensuring that our services are available to the highest bidder without prejudice."
"2. Integrity in Contracts: The Accords adhere to a strict code of honor for fulfilling contracts. Once we make a commitment, we fulfill it with unwavering dedication, regardless of the nature or difficulty of the task."
"3. Secrecy and Discretion: Secrecy is paramount to the Accords. We operate in the shadows, conducting our affairs discreetly and leaving no trace of our involvement, unless called for. Client confidentiality is sacred, and we guard our methods and information with the utmost care. But all information has a price."
"4. Non-Interference in Mortal Affairs: The Accords refrain from meddling in the affairs of mortal beings unless directly contracted to do so. Mortal conflicts are left to unfold naturally, and the organization does not intervene unless there is a clear supernatural element involved."
"5. Unbiased Service to the Highest Bidder: The Accords sell services to the highest bidder without discrimination. Whether the client is a devil, angel, fallen angel, Shinto, Norse, or any other supernatural entity, the Accords remain impartial and provide our services based solely on contractual agreements."
"6. Mastery of Magic Theory and Research: The Accords prioritize the pursuit of knowledge in magic theory and supernatural phenomena. We engage in extensive research to enhance our understanding of the arcane, enabling to better navigate and manipulate the supernatural forces at play."
"7. Adaptability and Evolution: The Accords value adaptability and the ability to evolve with the changing dynamics of the supernatural world. Continuously refine our methods, stay abreast of fresh developments, and adapt our services to meet the evolving needs of their clients."
"8. Punishment for Betrayal: Betrayal of the Accords' principles or the breach of our code is met with severe consequences. The organization does not tolerate betrayal from within, and individuals found guilty of such actions face strict disciplinary measures."
"Questions?" Sakura, once again, repeats her question, her voice filled with curiosity.
'Hmm only things that comes to mind is identity.'
"How secret do I have to be? When meeting with a client, do I need to wear a mask or something?"
'Super hero er or I guess Assassin Takumi time?'
As I ask my question, Sakura's amusement bubbles up and she bursts into laughter.
"You really are an interesting one, Takumi-chan. No questions about what those disciplinary measures are, no questions about what you will do. Just worried about having to wear a mask?"
I shrug lightly. "Just trying to figure out if I need to buy a ski mask or not." My comment causes her to snort.
"No, you do not need a ski mask. No, the individual decides their own personal identity. You, of course, do not go advertising your full name and that you are a member. But when meeting with a client, it would not be unusual for you to be yourself if they are a high-ranking client. New clients or ones we trust less, we would highly recommend you cloak your identity somehow."
'Ranking clients? Interesting.'
"So clients have ranks. How does that work?"
"Simple, first the longer we have worked with them, the more we trust them not to do something against us. Add in factors of what type of payments they provide and that can make them higher ranking."
"That makes logical sense. Next question, I guess, how will this all work? Your mentor ship and all."
"Well, train during your free days. I'll use magic to manipulate a few memories and instead of you showing up to your martial arts practice. You'll come to a location in Kuoh that I will setup, reinforced barrier for sparing and wards to hide the magic inside."
'Hell yeah, finally some real sparring and training!'
"Sounds good to me, so no more martial arts then?"
"I would recommend you still compete in competitions as it will give your cover more plausibility of why you still go to marital arts trainings - albeit in name."
I nodded my head to her explanation.
"Now Takumi-chan~ prepare yourself,"
Sakura's eyes gleamed with excitement, a mischievous smile playing on her lips as she prepared to test my abilities. The surrounding air crackled with anticipation, and the icy lake reflecting the glowing of her aura. My shadows danced across the landscape, and the distant echoes of unseen forces reverberated through the space.
"Let's see what you're made of, Takumi-chan," Sakura purred, her silver hair shimmering as she moved into a combat stance. Her eyes, once playful, now carried a focused intensity. "I promise to be gentle~"
I took my stance, not having a weapon available. I coated my hands in Blaze Black Flare , my eyes narrowing as I readied myself for the oncoming clash. The black flames on my right shoulder flickered alive again, echoing my heightened anticipation.
{Give it your all. Show no fear.} Vritra's voice rings out in my head, having woken up from the sudden release of magic.
Without warning, Sakura vanished, her movements so swift that the air barely had time to ripple in her wake. She reappeared behind me, aiming a swift kick at my midsection. My instincts kicked in, and I spun to parry the attack with a forearm.
'Fuck! HER, KICK IS LIKE A STEEL BAR!'
{Steady your mind!}
The impact resonated through my arm, and Sakura used the opening to launch a barrage of rapid strikes. I barely kept up, the silver blur of Sakura's movements leaving an afterimage in my vision. I blocked, dodged, and countered as best I could, each clash pushing my limits.
As Sakura's fists blurred through the air, I saw an opportunity. Channeling the power of Blaze Black Flare, I unleashed a wave of dark fire in a sweeping arc. Sakura gracefully evaded, somersaulting backward to create distance.
"Nice try, Takumi-chan," Sakura taunted, her eyes glinting with approval. "But I'm just getting started."
The cherry blossoms around the lake quivered as Sakura summoned her own magic. Ethereal cherry blossom petals materialized around her, dancing in a graceful waltz. With a swift motion of her hand, the petals transformed into razor-sharp blades, hurtling toward me.
With swift reflexes, I created a shield of swirling dark energy using Dimensional Tether, causing the surrounding space to warp and distort. The distorted rifts absorbed the incoming onslaught, creating a cacophony of swirling energy. The crackling of the barrier filled the air, a clear indication of the energy behind the pedals.
As my Dimensional Tether barrier shattered, I quickly used Eclipsing Viel in a desperate attempt to gain the upper hand. I filled the air of the lake with a shadowy mist, enveloping everything in an eerie atmosphere. But it was too late for me. Struck with a forceful fist across my face, propelling me through the air and causing me to crash into a cherry blossom tree. Breaking my concentration and dispelling the veil of mist.
"That won't work on me, Takumi. You should have known that. I am his daughter." Sakura lets out as she slowly walks towards me.
I raise my hand in desperation, firing off Blaze Black Flare in an arc of black flames hurling towards her. Sakura effortlessly weaved through the dark inferno, her movements fluid and precise.
I raise both my hands, feeling the energy surge through me as I summon another magic circle, identical to the one I used in the dreamscape.
Pouring my magic into the circle, bolts of dark lightning crackled and sizzled, creating an electrifying atmosphere before darting towards Sakura.
'Take that!'
"Desperate," she whispered under her breath, her hand rising to effortlessly flick the lightning away with a quick motion. The lightning shot off into a section of trees across the lake, exploding in a violent burst of color and sound.
'Nothing!? Nothing at all!?"'
Feeling my magic drained, my mind raced. Combat was something I was familiar with in my past life, but combat of this intricate type was foreign to me. Never had I faced an opponent who could simply negate my efforts with a flick of their wrists.
'What do I do!? Absorption line! I'll get close and replenish from her!'
{Takumi, stop. You lost. Let it be a lesson.}
'What do you mean!? I can still fight!' Lost in my head and thoughts, I had failed to see Sakura standing in front of me until she spoke.
"Not bad, Takumi-chan," Sakura acknowledged, a genuine smile gracing her features. "You've got potential. I look forward to seeing how much stronger you can become. Now go to sleep." In a flash, she appeared before me, flicking my forehead with one finger and rendering me unconscious.
My eyes jolt open as I jump up, but my legs give out and I fall back down on my bed? Taking a moment to survey my surroundings, I realize I am in the comfort of my bedroom.
'Vritra?'
{I am here. You are fine Takumi.} As Vritras spoke, his voice had a calming effect on my mind, like a parent reassuring a worried child.
"What happened?" I inquire as I grimace in slight pain.
"I knocked you out silly~" Suddenly, a sweet, feminine voice breaks the silence, and I turn to my right to find Sakura sitting beside me on the bed. A smile on her face.
"S-Sakura-san?!" I say in a panic, falling off the bed before she reaches out and grabs me.
"Shh! Don't wake your family. It's late, also just call me Sakura. You're making me feel old."
I reposition myself on the bed, nodding my head in acknowledgment. Glancing at the clock, I see that it's already 11pm.
"Okay, Sakura… Why are you in my bed?" My voice shaking nervously, tying to recall everything that happened. I recall the fight and … the flick to the head.
"Someone had to take you home, plus I wanted to talk with my father alone for a while."
She says with a bittersweet smile, a mixture of joy and sadness clear on her face, as she finally gets to talk with Vritra after all these years.
'I can't image it… haven't your father killed but still somewhat alive through fragments that she couldn't even interact with.'
"I hope that the conversation was fulfilling. If you ever need to talk with him, feel free. But maybe next time don't knock me out and just wait for me to sleep?"
Upon hearing my comment, a smile spreads across her face and she can't help but giggle.
"Thank you, but I had to knock you out. You needed to learn the lesson, but I also wasn't happy with what I saw. Just like my conversation with father wasn't entirely fulfilling, he wouldn't answer my questions about you!"
'Weren't happy with what you saw? Questions about me?' My mind paces as I try to understand what she means. My brows furrow in confusion.
"Your a baffling child Takumi-chan~" she says in a teasing way before dropping the act. "Who are you?"
Caught off guard, her words leave me momentarily stunned, struggling to find a response.
'Did you tell her anything, Vritra?!'
{I did not. She is just extremely inquisitive, and she is right. You're a baffling existence.}
I gulp nervously, needing a moment to collect my thoughts.
"What do you mean Sakura?"
She slightly pouts at my response before taking a breath and elaborating. "You make little sense. Let me start with the obvious. First, you hold seven sacred gears at once. Something that is not possible. I have heard rumors of some holding two or three after cruel extraction rituals but never being born with more than one, ever. But there could be an explanation for that…"
'God being dead, I assume she means.'
"The more peculiar thing to me is your eyes."
"My eyes?" I ask, confused.
"Yes, your eyes Takumi. I will be honest and admit ever since our first encounter, I have been watching you. The eyes are the window of the soul for a reason. They reflect your emotions more than you realize and yours are baffling. There are moments when you have the eyes of a child, loving and basking in the presence of their family. Glints of hope and happiness." She paused for a moment, clearly trying to find the best words to use.
"Then, moments later, your eyes are soulless, expressionless. The equivalence of someone displaying 'Nobody home' on their face or 'thousand-yard stare.' The only people whose eyes reflect yours are ones who have survived through difficult times. Times of immense death, horrors and strife. At first, I thought maybe it was just the nightmares you talked about with hearing voices in your dreams, maybe they were scaring you. But I quickly dropped those thoughts when I would notice your eyes flicker. When walking with Issei or doing anything, especially martial arts, your eyes would flicker to every movement, every sound. Something ingrained the sense of urgency in you, as though your life depended on not missing a single thing."
'Theirs no way she's been watching me that long to notice all these things, right Vritra?' my words fall on mental silence.
'So she has, and you just said nothing…'
"The final two things that have me confounded, Takumi, are your eyes in combat and your combat awareness. Years of martial arts and a lousy year of dream-scape training do not add up to your intuition in our spar. I completely erased my signature and speed up to speeds you shouldn't have been able to see or endure during the start of our bout. Yet you could keep up, snapping your head directly at my movements, not seeing me. But predicting me. Finally were your eyes, and the attitude conveyed in them during our spar. Despite your refined movements, your eyes conveyed the demeanor of a stray dog. Someone so hell bent on defying the surrounding death, they push forward. Your eyes were maddening and your magic was a clear representation of it at the end. So I ask again Takumi, who are you?"
Her words lingered in the air, creating an uncomfortable tension as she locked eyes with me, refusing to break her gaze.
'Fuck… Vritra, what do I do? How the hell do I convey I am not from this world, do I even?'
{The call is yours. It is your life to tell, not mine… If you want my suggestion, tell her you are reincarnated, you can leave it at that. Leaving the 'all' and story out of it, for now.}
With nervous anticipation, I gulp audibly before mustering the courage to take a deep, calming breath.
"Do you trust me, Sakura?"
Her eyes narrow briefly, followed by a gentle blink and a warm smile. "I do. You're my disciple now. So you have my trust, that alone is enough. While father would not tell me anything about you, he also vouched for you. So I will respect your decision you make here."
I bite my lip for a second before speaking. "I reincarnated."
As my words hang in the air, she blinks in confusion, her hand instinctively rising to her chin as she delves into deep thought.
"May I ask questions, Takumi… is that your real name?" Her eyes glistened with intrigue, as if I had become a riddle she was determined to solve.
"You may… I just might hesitate with some. Yes, Takumi was also my name in my last life."
"Age when you died? Race? Nationality? Were you even on earth? Was it this timeline? A future? Past? So many questions!"
The intensity of her words matched the rapid fire of a machine gun, leaving no room for pause or hesitation.
'She is taking this way better than I thought she would.'
"22, Human, Japanese, Earth err Sorta.. same galaxy, just different planets occasionally, future."
As soon as my words reached her ears, she sprang to her feet and started pacing restlessly around the room.
"Future, hmm were you some type of soldier? That would explain everything I said earlier?"
With a small nod of my head, I convey my agreement without saying a word.
"Yes, a soldier to the Imperial Legion. The Japanese 3rd Imperial strike legion. Earth had long since split into federations and collectives. Conquering the stars and asteroids, settling every settle able space and stripping worlds of resources. What started out as a united space race turned into absolutism and nationalism wars. Fighting between corporations, federations, etc. I was Kodomo Shenshi, a child warrior. Born to serve the Emperor. I was born into the barracks and raised in the imperial academy until I graduated at 14. Then they sent me to serve in the planetary wars.
"So many questions now! I assume you have no way to know if this current world was your futures past?" Sakura pauses her pacing to hear my response.
I shake my head.
"I don't know or wouldn't know where to start. I died in the year 2488 and our lectures never talked about anything pre 2239. But I would rather not talk about my past…"
"2488!?"
Sakura pouts slightly, her brows furrowing in a small display of disappointment, before she nods her head in understanding and settles back down on the bed next to me.
"I will stop asking questions about the past you, for now. But I have questions regarding to this you. Are you 12, 22 or 34 mentally, then?"
{I will explain this, Takumi. He is an amalgamation of both 12 and 22, just like the details you noticed about his eyes. We could say the same about his mental age. His mental capacity is that of a fully grown adult normally, swearing and having intelligent thoughts like an adult would. But his instinctive childish thoughts, desires and sometimes capacity in the right moments remain as well.}
"Interesting, so you think like both ages, I will be curious to see what happens when you grow past the age of 22 then. Do you have adult like desires? Desires from your past world, such as favorite foods?"
"No, I don't. I have zero desire for things from my past world… I think because this body never experienced them to crave it. Not to mention the food of this time tastes so much better! Not a gel pack ready to eat."
She pauses, her eyes searching mine as she carefully considers each word I spoke.
"By that assumption, maybe your adult desires do not exist because you have not experienced them yet? ... Ah, never mind, I wanted to tease you about blushing at the mention of mating earlier today, but I don't have the energy."
She collapses onto my bed, her body sinking into the soft mattress, and releases a long, exhausted sigh.
'Has she always been this teasing?'
{Yes, it's a combination of a dragon's lack of prudishness and her mother was a tease.}
'Dragons don't get embarrassed about sexual things? Also, who was her mother, your wife I mean.'
{We have no shame in mating. It is a natural call to us. So we do not feel embarrassed most of the time, per se. When you have a mate, the feeling of being flustered is more about the anticipation of what's about to happen... As for my wife, another time?}
'Oh, that makes sense and, of course! I would love to hear about the woman who captured Vritra's heart one day. But it can wait.'
I am pulled from my internal thoughts when Sakura stands up from the bed and looks at me.
"I am retiring for the night, Takumi-Chan~ Take care. I will see you in a few days when I get the training building set up. Good night."
"Good night, Sakura."
She smiles one last time before teleporting away, to where ever she calls home.
