"Buffy!" Angel called out. He leaned against the stone of the church trying to catch his breath. Angel had searched the entire church looking for Buffy but reached no avail. His last chance was hoping that she was waiting outside for Willow or her parents.
"You don't have to yell," Buffy said. "I'm right here." Angel cocked his head to the left and sure enough there was Buffy standing next to the pillar. "What are you doing out here anyway? Come to rub it in my face more?"
"Buffy..." Angel tried to explain, but she wasn't taking it.
"You know Angel, Kate's a great girl and probably can protect herself more than I can-"
"Buffy." He slowly approached her closing the distance between them.
"I can't deal with this right now, so why don't you go back to your wife and live happily ever after. Okay?" Angel couldn't take it anymore. In one swoop, he leaned in and captured her lips with his. Buffy's eyes practically bugged out of her head, but embraced the kiss not even a second later. Angel smiled as he walked Buffy backed into the pillar, pinning her with his weight. "Angel," Buffy breathed into the kiss, realizing in that moment how incredibly wrong this was. Buffy pushed Angel off her and smacked him across the face.
"What the hell, Buff?" Angel asked grabbing the side of his face. He almost forgotten how much Buffy's slaps hurt.
"What the hell, me? Angel, last time I checked you were just about to get married." Buffy couldn't believe his behavior. Angel was not the kind of guy to cheat, but then again she thought he was the loyal-till-the-end-type.
"About being the operative word."
Buffy's brows raised in confusion. "Come again?"
"I didn't marry Kate. I couldn't go through with it."
"But, I thought-" Angel leaned into Buffy once more cutting her off with his lips.
When he pulled back, he sat Buffy down on the nearby stoop. "Before you interject with your millions of questions, I want to explain myself," Angel began. "I couldn't marry Kate. She wasn't you. For a moment there I thought she was. As she was walking down the aisle, all I saw was you. When I touched her hand and looked into her eyes I was snapped back into reality. That's when I think I realized that I didn't want to marry her. It's because I never stopped loving you. I was lonely and missing you and Kate was there. Though I loved her, it was never in the same way I loved you. Ever since you came back into my life, I was reminded of how much I love you. For months, I've grappled with this and I thought I was doing the right thing by moving on. Obviously I was wrong."
"Can I say something now?" Buffy asked politely. Angel sat down on the stoop and Buffy leaned her head on his shoulder. "So what does this now mean for us?"
"Well, I was hoping that you would take me back and we could start getting our life together back on track. You know like it once was."
"As wonderful as that sounds, I'm not in Sunnydale anymore. My life is in LA and I can't ask you to drop everything and follow me there."
"What if I said, I'd already found a job."
Buffy lifted her head off Angel and looked at him quizzically. "Then I'd say you're joking."
Angel smiled. "When you announced that you were moving to LA with Liam, I started looking for a job there. I talked to the police chief and he seemed very open to the possibility of me transferring to LA."
"Why didn't you mention this before?"
"I was going to. I was tying up loose ends back here in the department and Giles agreed with the transfer. All I had to do was talk to you and Kate about this. Seeing as Kate is no longer in the picture, that just leaves you."
"I don't know what to say."
Angel reached behind his back and unclasped the chain he was wearing. "Say you'll marry me." Angel pulled out their old, matching claddagh rings from the chain and held them up to her. Buffy was speechless. That claddagh ring had been her symbol of hope in the darkest time of her life and now here it is again. "I don't want to wait any longer to call you my wife. Just say yes and we can be at the courthouse in ten minutes. I know this isn't the ideal wedding you had planned, but we can still have that fairytale wedding you dreamed of. It may just be in a year from now."
"Say yes, Mommy," Liam urged, revealing his hiding spot. Angel and Buffy jumped from the stoop in shock as they heard their son's voice pipe up from behind them.
"Liam?! How long have you been there?" Buffy asked, suddenly nervous as to what her son had seen. That passionate lip lock against the pillar came to mind.
"Long enough, Mommy," Spike laughed, earning a smack on the chest from Faith. "Will you stop doing that?"
"Never," Faith said.
With the sudden appearance of Liam, Spike, and Faith, Angel knew that the rest would be close by. "Okay everyone, come out," Angel instructed. And one by one their friends and family revealed themselves. Tara, Willow, Joyce, Giles, Cordelia, Xander, Doyle, and Wesley. "What are you guys doing out here?"
"Well, poof, you made quite a scene back there," Spike began, nursing his flask of scotch that was covertly hidden in his jacket. "We had to see if you would make amends with Goldilocks or not. Seeing as we had to cover the munchkin's eyes, we would say you've made up." Angel rolled his eyes at his best man and stole Spike's flask to take a sip.
"So B, what are you gonna do now?" Faith asked. Buffy looked at the crowd for confirmation, but most importantly her son who seemed to be waiting for the moment as long as she has. She took Angel by the hands, stealing him away from Spike and placed a chaste kiss on his lips.
"Yes, I'll marry you."
Another one done! I'm sorry this story took long to finish in comparison to my last story, but with a crazy schedule recently I've barely had any time to finished. At least this one is finally complete. Until next time!
