Away from Encanto, beyond the mountains was the city. In the city, stood a large mansion. In that mansion lived three brothers named Lorenzo, Esteban, and Marcos Herrera. They weren't just ordinary brothers, they were wizards.
Marcos was 16, was tall, had short scruffy black hair, and brown eyes. He wore a red shirt under black poncho, brown pants, and black sandals. Lorenzo was 21, had short straight black hair, with a mustache and beard, and brown eyes.
And he wore a black shirt, tan pants, and black shoes. And Esteban was 19, had brown eyes, curly short black hair, a blue shirt, black pants, and brown sandals.
They were able to perform magic tricks, spells, and make special potions. They were adored and admired by all the citizens, and the brothers used their skills to make lives for the people easier, and entertain them.
Marcos could do tricks and spells, but being the youngest his powers weren't as strong or powerful as his older brothers. But there was another thing that separated Marcos from his brothers. While Marcos was a nice guy inside and out, Lorenzo and Esteban were only nice on the outside.
Behind their facade, the older brothers were power-hungry, narcissistic, and greedy. They were also looking at a way to become more powerful and be not only respected but feared as well.
One day, Lorenzo and Esteban were in their quarters. Lorenzo was looking at his crystal ball, and Esteban was going through his books.
"There must be something in this country that could make us more powerful." said Esteban, as he flipped through the pages of his book.
"Hermano, you're wasting your time looking at those books." Lorenzo told him.
He turned his attention back to his crystal ball, and then spoke to it.
"Crystal ball of all knowledge, show me what the most powerful object in all of Columbia."
At first the crystal ball was cloudy, but then it cleared to show the casita and up in the window was the candle.
"Hmm, what's this?" he questioned.
"You got something?" Esteban asked, going over to him.
"Apparently, this candle is the most powerful object in the whole country."
"A vela? How in the world is a vela the most powerful thing in the country?"
"Shh, my crystal ball never lies. If this is the most powerful object then it must be true. Where is this candle?"
The crystal ball then showed the Casita in Encanto.
"Well Esteban, looks like we're going to Encanto." Esteban smiled, and said,
"I'll get Marcos."
In Marcos' room, he was practicing his magic. He was going to do a simple spell that would tidy up his room faster.
"All right, here we go."
He picked up his wand, and said his spell. His wand then began to glow, and things in the room began to put themselves away. But then, his wand flickered and all the objects fell to the floor.
"Aw hombre." he complained.
His door opened, and Esteban stepped in.
"Hey, Marcos we're going on a little trip."
"Where are we going?"
"We're going to Encanto."
"Encanto? What's there?"
"A whole new adventure. We'll be leaving first thing in the morning."
Then he left.
"Well maybe I can work on my magic more there." Marcos thought.
The next morning after breakfast, the Herrera brothers mounted on horses, and rode off to Encanto.
Meanwhile, in Encanto Mirabel was just strolling through town while her family was doing their service to the town folk. Several young kids were asking Mirabel about her family's powers. She had just finished telling them that Antonio was going to get his gift that night.
"But what's your gift?" one girl asked.
"Oh well..." Mirabel started.
Dolores who was passing by answered for her.
"Mirabel didn't get one."
The three kids looked shocked.
"You mean you didn't get a gift?" a boy gasped.
"Well...no. But that's okay, because I am just as special as my family." Mirabel told them.
But then several of her family members walked past showing off their gifts. Isabela was leaving flowers while she walked, Luisa carried 10 donkeys on her shoulders, Pepa created rainbows and sunshine, Camilo changed into different people, and Julieta healed people automatically with her foods.
"Maybe your gift is being in denial." a girl told her.
This disheartened Mirabel, and she started back home.
Before going inside the casita, Mirabel got a delivery from a man.
"Here you go Mirabel, the "not special" special. Because you're the only Madrigal without a gift." he told her, handing her a basket filled with party items.
"Uh, gracias." Mirabel replied.
Then she went inside the Casita, where everyone was getting ready for Antonio's gift ceremony.
"Luisa, the piano has to be over there." Abuela instructed.
"Got it." replied Luisa.
As she hurried to take care of it, she almost bumped into Mirabel.
"Careful, sis." she told her.
Suddenly, Mirabel was hit by a gust of wind. It was being caused by Pepa, who had caused a tornado because she was walking around in a panic.
"This is mi bebe's night, and it has to be perfect. But it's not perfect, and nothing ready. And people will be coming soon." she tutted.
"Pepa, you're messing up the flowers." Felix told her.
"Does someone need more flowers?" wondered Isabela.
She came down the second story using vines, and made flowers bloom all over the walls. As everyone awed at her, Mirabel looked unfazed. Everyone applauded, and some of her flower petals hit Mirabel in the face.
"You know, if we're in the way all the time you'd be more helpful." Isabela sneered.
"I am helping." Mirabel told her.
But Isabela just ignored her.
Upstairs, Mirabel tried to help out by making a trail of candles for Antonio to follow. As she did, Julieta and Augustin walked up to her.
"Mira, how're you feeling?" she asked.
"I'm fine, Mama." Mirabel replied.
But Julieta knew that Antonio's gift ceremony would bring back hard memories for her daughter.
"Just remember, you can say if you feel left out."
"And you don't have anything to prove." added Augustin.
Mirabel smiled at her parents' words, and continued her work. As they walked off, Mirabel kept working. But then, she ran into Alma.
"Oh Abuela."
"What are you doing?" Alma wanted to know.
"Just helping out."
"Mirabel we all have to hep out, but some have to help out less than others." Alma told her sternly.
And then she walked off.
"Mama, can you please try and be nice to Mirabel. Tonight's gonna be hard for her tonight." Julieta told her mother.
"Tonight will be hard for all of us if the ceremony doesn't go well." Alma replied.
Mirabel sighed and then headed towards her room. As she did, she heard another voice.
"You okay, kid?" Mirabel looked up, and saw Bruno.
"Oh, Tio Bruno. Yeah I'm fine."
"You know if you ever want to talk about anything, you can." Mirabel smiled.
"Gracias."
And then she went on to her room.
Once she was inside, she closed the door and sat on her bed.
"You know...your mama's looking for you." she said.
No one came out. Then Mirabel took out a small present.
"Guess you won't be wanting the present I got you."
She then placed it on the floor, and two small hands reached out from under the bed, and grabbed it. Mirabel then climbed under the bed, alongside Antonio.
"Why you hiding under here?"
"I'm nervous, what if I don't get my gift?"
"Then you'd just stay here in the nursery with me. But that's not gonna happen because today you'll get your special power. And have a room that's all yours."
"I wish you had a special room of your own. Then you wouldn't be alone."
Mirabel smiled sweetly.
"Don't you worry, I'll be fine."
Antonio then opened his present, and pulled out a small stuffed jaguar. The two then nuzzled each other.
Outside, Pepa was creating dark storm clouds, because she was in such a mood.
"Where is he!?" she asked exasperated.
"Pepa, calm down and get rid of those clouds." ordered Alma.
"I'm trying!"
But that just made thunder roar and lightning strike. Camilo then went up to his mother, and hugged her.
"Calm down, Mami." he told her.
And luckily that made some of clouds go away. Just then, something caught Dolores' ears.
"Dolores, what do you hear, mija?" Alma wanted to know.
"I hear horses approaching the village. And the voices of the men riding on them are new." she informed.
That surprised Alma, who was coming to Encanto?
