Author's Note: I decided to re-upload this story with some changes I've made! Enjoy!

Jennifer Hart had been enjoying a cup of tea as she sat at her computer attempting to plan her next move for her latest story. She had her fingers in position ready to type her next thought only, nothing came to her.

She had written a few lines down, but found no new information that would help her gain any traction with developing her story.

She was working on finding some leads for a story her editor, Marcia, was wanting her to cover and she only came up empty handed.

Jonathan had been out of town on business so of course, she buried herself in work. It was the only thing that filled the void until she and Jonathan would be together again.

Sighing, she tosses the notepad as she crosses off the names on her list and takes a break, rubbing her temples, her eyes tired from the piles of articles, books, and small print paper on her desk.

She scratches out yet another name off her lead sheet, frustrated she can't find the information she is looking for.

Jennifer comes to a stand and crosses the room of her office and stares out at the bustling and busy streets below.

" A penny for your thoughts?" a voice across the room jars Jennifer from her thoughts.

She turns to see her friend Carolyn standing in the doorway.

" Carolyn! What a nice surprise!" Jennifer grins surprised, but happy to see an old friend.

The middle aged woman was a friend of Jennifer and Jonathan's. She used to be a freelance journalist before deciding to settle into a more simple routine in retirement and settled into teaching a journalism class at a high school in Bel-Air.

" I was just popping in to see an old friend of mine and when I saw you here I had to stop. Working on anything interesting?" Carolyn takes a seat across from Jennifer's desk.

Jennifer gingerly sits at the edge of her desk and pushes the current assignment over.

" Well, I'm trying to find leads for this wildlife foundation I'm covering that has been under investigation for laundering money." Jennifer was perplexed and wanted to find answers to get help for the animals in need.

If it were up to her, Jennifer would take in all the animals she could. Freeway Junior would be a bit jealous but Jennifer couldn't stand to see the current state of the foundation.

The wildlife sanctuary was one in Northern California that had been in question before so there was quite a bit of research available on the place that Jennifer had been easily able to access.

" I know animals are a cause very near and dear to your heart." Carolyn smiles slightly up at her friend as she scans the notes.

" Very much so. Sometimes I think Johnathan gets a bit jealous of all the attention Freeway Junior gets." Jennifer giggles as she eyes the photo of her husband on the desk.

" You two are a love story for the ages." Carolyn says with a smile.

Jennifer couldn't help but laugh but Carolyn was right. Jonathan was most certainly the love of her life and their romance had been a once in a lifetime kind of love.

" I think he's the lucky one." Carolyn replies.

" I feel as though I am the lucky one. We both are. He's wonderful." Jennifer says.

" Jen, have you ever thought about teaching? Listen, I just opened up a journalism class at the school I'm teaching at. I'd love to have your help. I promise I won't keep you away from Jonathan for too long." Carolyn inquires as she crosses her arms.

" Teaching?" Jennifer asks, moving from her spot, intrigued now by this request.

" Yes. You'd be wonderful at it. I know you'd be a hit with the children." Carolyn was hoping she could entice Jennifer enough to join her.

" It's something I would need to speak with Jonathan about. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. It's not as if he's retired and planning on settling down anytime soon. Our life is full of adventure." Jennifer responds with a laugh.

" At least come tour the school. The principal would love to meet with you. In fact, I've told him so much about you already, I think he might be ready to offer you a permanent position right on the spot." Caorlyn smiled slyly.

Jennifer raises her brows and her mouth drops slightly in reply. " Carolyn!"

" I'll see you at the school, Jen. Trust me. Meet me Monday. 9:00. Do send my love to Jonathan."

The older woman walks out before Jennifer can get a chance to give her an answer. She only laughs, wondering what her husband will think of her next adventure.

Unable to concentrate any longer on her article or calling anymore leads, she decides to pack her things and head home, knowing Freeway Junior will be expecting his dinner.

" Goodnight Jerry! I will see you next week. I have to follow up on some leads for the story." Jennifer says as he ducks her head into her colleague's office.

He looks up from his paperwork at Jennifer and takes off his glasses, rubbing his eyes as Jennifer steps foot into his office.

" Have you been able to find anything more?" Jerry asks.

" Not today. Everyone I've called is very hesitant to divulge any information about the funds or Richard Markston. I might pay the wildlife center a visit to lay my own eyes on Mister Markston." Jennifer was determined to get to the bottom of things to help ensure the safe future of the center.

" Just be careful. Markston considers anyone in the media to be…shall we say…prey." Jerry replies a bit coldly.

Richard Markston was a person not to be messed with. When his feathers were ruffled, he would become listless and was bound to snap.

Jennifer nods slowly before deciding to head to her car, eager to leave work behind.

The drive home, Jennifer kept the ride silent, not even bothering to turn on any music. Her mind was reeling to see if there was more about Markston than meets the eye.

…..

She finally pulls up to her home and her stomach fills with butterflies as she sees their Bentley in the driveway.

She quickly parks her car and rushes through the door.

" Darling?" Jennifer calls.

Her eyes light up when she spots Freeway coming down the stairs.

" Hello baby! What do you have here?" Jennifer bends down and takes the paper from Freeway's mouth.

She sees the word 'follow' scribbled across it.

Freeway barks, getting her attention as he hurries up the stairs, with Jennifer trailing behind.

Freeway patiently sits in front of the french doors leading to their bedroom and barks.

Jennifer takes a breath and opens the door, grinning ear to ear as she lays eyes on her husband.

" Hello Darling." He grins, holding his arms out wide, anxious to take his wife into his embrace.

" Oh Jonathan!" Jennifer tosses her bag aside and hurries over to him as he wraps his arms tightly around her.

He kisses her lips long and lovingly and holds her to him. Jennifer feels herself relaxing and melting under his touch, their bodies syncing together as one, in perfect harmony.

" I've missed you so much." Jennifer whispers into his lips.

" Not as much as I've missed you my darling." Jonathan smiles against her lips.

He pulls her gently to him as he sits on the edge of the bed.

Jennifer is so happy to see him, she can hardly take her gaze away from him, even as Junior jumps into her lap.

" When did you get back? I thought you would be gone until tomorrow." Jennifer asks.

" I got back about an hour ago. I wanted to surprise you. I couldn't be gone another day. I've missed you so much, and Freeway." Jonathan replies, as he pulls his wife close.

" I'm happy you chose to come back early." Jennifer says.

Jonathan lays her back on the bed and kisses her deeply this time, caressing her cheek gently, missing the feeling of her flesh against his.

Freeway jumps down, leaving to go eat his food as his owners are enthralled by one another, paying him no attention.

The two make love and after find themselves tangled in the sheets laying side by side sharing the details of the trip Jonathan had taken and about Jennifer's recent article.

" Carolyn came by the office today." Jennifer mentions as she sits up a little, turning so she faces Jonathan now.

" Oh she did? How is she?" he asks, always curious about her work and her friends.

" She did. She is doing just fine. She actually had a proposition for me and wanted me to run it by you." Jennifer says as her finger crawls up the silk pajama top Jonathan wore as she toys with the buttons.

" Oh what kind of proposition?" Jonathan asks, amused.

He pulls Jennifer close to him and begins planting kisses down her neck.

" Well…it's about a teaching position at a high school. They are in need of someone to help with the opening of their new journalism program."

" Really? I think that's great." Jonathan smiles, half listening as he continues to shower his wife with kisses.

Jennifer doesn't seem phased as Jonathan continues to love on her.

" Apparently, Carolyn has put in a word with the principal and they are ready to offer me a contract." Jennifer has to chuckle once again at the eagerness of her friend.

Jonathan pulls away and looks at her, trying to read her.

" How do you feel about this? I think you'd be wonderful in front of a class." Jonathan rubs a hand on her back.

" Well, it will be a full time commitment. I thought we were going to slow down and cut back. I do have that big story I'm trying to finish. Carolyn wants to meet with me first thing Monday morning. Would you go with me?" Jennifer asks.

" Of course I will, darling. I think if it's something you want to do, go for it. I'll support you." Jonathan replies as a warm smile appears on his face.

" You're wonderful." Jennifer kisses his cheek before her head rests on his chest.

The two fell asleep and enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep.
