Jonathan parks the car and Jennifer gets out. " Macy?" she calls out, getting the girl's attention.

" Mrs. Hart!" Macy looks up, relieved to see the Harts and shocked to see her teacher. She hurries over to them and hugs Jennifer tightly.

The girl is clearly shaken by something. Her sweaty hair is sticking to her face. She looks as if she's seen a ghost

Jennifer winces slightly in pain from her bruises.

" I- I thought you were dead." she sniffles as hot tears roll down her face.

" What do you mean?" Jennifer asks, ushering her inside.

Jonathan locks the door after they get inside.

" A few of the kids a-at the game were talking about you and Ms. Woods and some accident that happened. I had to see for myself." Macy looked traumatized as she explained.

Jennifer sits her down and Jonathan brings Macy over a glass of water and a few tissues.

Freeway Junior makes his way over to the distraught teenager and goes to sit in her lap, which relaxes her a little bit.

She gently pets the dog, and it helps her to calm down. After a few minutes, she speaks up again.

" It was on the news and the kids said they heard you and Ms. Woods had been murdered." Macy shudders, wiping her eyes on the sleeve of her well worn jacket.

" We're fine. I promise you that. Ms. Woods, too." Jennifer reassures her as she gently squeezes the girl's shoulder.

Macy took in Jennifer's appearance, noting the bruises and scrapes on her hands and a cut on her face.

" I promise I'm alright. Macy, did you go to the game alone?" Jennifer asks.

Macy nods. " I was taking pictures for class. Rickie was gloating about the team and then laughing about how people shouldn't stick their noses where they don't belong."

Jonathan and Jennifer both look at each other in surprise.

" You can't tell anyone that you saw Mrs. Hart or that you know about Ms. Woods." Jonathan speaks up, concerned now.

" I won't. But why can't they know? Is something wrong?" Macy worries. Has she said too much? She shrinks down a little.

" Macy…let's have a snack. We can talk. Do you like ice cream?" Jennifer asks.

Macy nods and follows Jennifer into the kitchen.

She fixes two bowls for them. Jonathan declines, as he's more worried about his wife's safety than a snack.

Macy takes a few bites, savoring the treat.

Jennifer speaks up after taking a bite of her ice cream, choosing her words carefully. " Macy, Ms. Woods was helping me with the research I was doing. You see, I'm a freelance journalist. I was reporting on the Wildlife Center here. Some money has gone missing. Lots of money. Someone I know is involved and she was helping me. A very powerful person. Apparently, the person found out we knew and tried to kill us, only, he doesn't know we survived and that his secrets are about to be exposed."

Macy was quiet as she absorbed everything. She spends a few moments processing the news before her head snaps back up.

" Mrs. Hart…do you think- somehow, Rickie's father is involved?" she inquires.

" How did you know?" Both Jennifer and Jonathan are perplexed at her question.

Macy shrugs before speaking. " I found this at the pep rally. Rickie's dad dropped it. I thought it was suspicious."

She hands over a crumpled up paper from her jacket pocket.

Jonathan moves to stand by his wife, leaning his arm on the table as he stands beside her reading the short note.

Jennifer immediately recognized the stationary. It was from the center and she saw the crest in the center of the paper.

" Jennifer Hart knows. Charlie has proof. Contact Richard Markston for further instructions.

- Liza."

That simple sentence was daming.

" Why didn't you show this to me?" Jennifer questions Macy as she reads and rereads the crumpled up paper.

" I-I wasn't sure. I didn't know what to do with it." Macy admits, nervously rubbing her hands together.

" Has anyone else seen this?" Jennifer asks.

Macy fervently shakes her head no.

Jonathan is seething with anger towards the Senator and Richard Markston.

" Jennifer, who's Liza?" Jonathan asks, running a hand through his hair.

" She was working for the center. She was young. Right out of college. Charlie's new intern. I met her just the other day.." Jennifer replies, her voice distant.

Her eyes flick up from the note towards Macy. She looked withdrawn and scared.

" Are you mad at me?" she asks softly as she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.

" No. I'm not. I'm not mad at you at all." Jennifer reassures her with a small smile, reaching out gently to squeeze her hand in reassurance.

" Macy, how did you get here?" Jonathan asks, knowing the group home she was in was all the way across town. He was wondering how she got ahold of their address.

" Mrs. Hart gave me your address for emergencies only. I- I figured this was an emergency. I'm sorry if I bothered you both. I took the bus and walked the rest of the way." she quickly apologizes, standing up to leave.

" Macy. You don't have to leave. As a matter of fact, why don't you be our guest for the evening? Would your group home allow that?" Jennifer asks, not realizing what she said before it was out of her mouth.

" How did you-" Macy asks.

" Carolyn, I mean told me. Being in a group home is nothing to be ashamed of. Jonathan was adopted too." She says softly, offering the girl a small smile.

Jonathan finds Macy staring at him. "You were an orphan?" she asks softly.

Jonathan nods. " I was," he turns to Jennifer before replying. " A wonderful man named Max, adopted me and gave me a family and without him, I wouldn't have Jennifer."

Jennifer looked at her husband, a hint of sadness in her eyes as she thought about Max.

" I am worried about you going back there. Did anyone follow you?" Jennifer asks her after a moment.

" Not that I can think of." Macy replies.

" Well, why don't we see if you can just stay with us?" Jennifer asks, looking towards her husband.

He gave Jennifer a silent nod of approval and smiled at Macy.

She doesn't trust that the Senator doesn't have eyes on or around their place.

" You'd have to clear it with Mrs. Bryce, she runs the place." Macy says.

" We can handle that. Jonathan will call her. In the meantime, why don't I show you around?" Jennifer takes her by the arm and shows her around their rental home they are still occupying, with Freeway Junior following behind, his tail wagging.

Macy smiled as she stepped outside into the back, she could hear the sounds of the waves.

" This is nice." she says softly as she bundles up into her thick coat, wrapping her arms around herself as the wind picks up.

" Why is Rickie's dad after you?" Macy asks.

Jennifer turns to her. " It's a long story. Macy, I need you to promise me something. I need you to promise me that you will not tell anyone you saw me. Or that Ms. Woods is alive. Just for a bit longer. Can you do that for me?"

Jennifer searches her face. Macy looks worried and confused but nods.

" Jennifer, I just got off the phone. Mrs. Bryce had no idea Macy was even gone. Unfortunately, I have to take her back." Jonathan says.

Jennifer sadly nods as she strokes Macy's hair.

" Jonathan will get you back where you need to be. Don't worry Macy, I'll be back at the school soon enough." Jennifer hugged her close.

" Stay inside darling. I'll be back as quickly as I can." Jonathan says to his wife, kissing her.

She waves them off and goes inside, waiting for Jonathan's return.
