3rd P.O.V

Oliver fell on his back with a gasp. He choked as his mask broke. On his back he watched as the newly made lost leap above him, his hands out ready to rip his throat out. Only it never made it. He suddenly saw a flash of pink blur.

His companion, a girl he had just met and partnered with stood in front of him, batting the lost away with her pipe. He winced hearing the loud collide between a hard head and metal. The struggling male could do nothing as the young, inexperienced girl fought for her life.

"Ow!" He shouldn't have been careless. Out of the two of them, he knew better. "Stop it!" Now because of his scew up, both of them could become lost. "Leave...us alone!" So much guilt filled his veins.

Shishi tried to hide her tears after falling the revenant that attacked them. A sniffle escaped as her opponent turned to ash, his clothes left behind. Her already red rimmed gaze peered down, her body following along with it.

In a slight daze, he noticed her pick something up off the ground, before rushing to his side. Her hand reached for him, as if she were about to pry the damaged mask off. Oliver offered her a small smile. "Don't worry about me. I'll wait here a bit and catch up with you later."

The girl shook her head, those pink and ash colored locks moving back and forth along with her. Instead of listening to him, she reached her hand forward, grasping his mask. "Wait-" In one swift motion he found himself with a new mask. Hers.

He expected the bloodthirst to get worse, to completely lose himself to a scent that wasn't his. Even if her intentions were good, one never traded masks when in the miasma. Yet after a few moments of breathing...nothing.

Oliver couldn't believe it. He-he was able to breathe with no problem! "How!?" His gaze glanced up, just in time to see his companion place on the mask that was left behind by the enemy she just slew. Tension formed in his muscles, the grip on his weapon tighter.

Relief came with a strong exhale as Shishi tilted her head, confused. "You...you ok?" The pinkette nodded, acting no different than when they first fell. "Yeah, you?" He was stunned. "I, yeah. You know it was risky doing that just now. You could've sent both of us into a frenzy, becoming lost." The confusion was back.

Did she really not know? She told him before that she didn't have any memories of her past, but just how deep did that go into basic knowledge. "Someone in the pit told me that we needed working masks. I figured the one that other guy had worked well enough. Why? Is mine broken too?" Unbelievable.

"No. It works perfectly. But if our scent isn't in the mask, we risk becoming lost. Which is why I repeat, are you ok? For whatever reason, I don't really smell anything from yours." Now that he thought about it, it was weird.

Were it not for the pressure on his face, he would've assumed he didn't even have a mask. It was like he was smelling the fresh air up on the surface, which made it all the more apparent he get his answer.

He watched her face squint though it was hard to tell what she was thinking. Then she shrugged. "I have the guy's scent in my nose...it's awful!" The hammer user could only shake his head, laughing.

"Well if that's all...I think you'll be fine." On shaking legs, Oliver rises with his hammer. Something he didn't think he would be capable of doing with a clear conscious. Yet there he was, smiling. He was lucky, extremely so. "Are you ready?" There was no way he was going to take his second chance for granted. "Let's go."

the end

Author Notes: Major whoops. I forgot to do an ending author notes last chapter-silly me lol. But it's fine. Now talkng about this one, however, i am aware of the whole frenzy thing-but you know with how special our player character is, I imagine they would be immune to it.

Even if not...well fanfiction be fanfiction-don't tell Sen haha, that's usually his explanation. But ending it here for now. Guys thank you all so much for reading. If you like it please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean the world to me. Ill see you next time, tchao for now.
