Mitosis is the process of chromosomes breaking apart to make two new identical cells during the cellular reproductive cycle.
"My toes, sis!" is what you scream when your sister drops a suitcase on your toes, breaking apart your toe bones. There is no toe reproductive cycle, but there definitely is a toe life cycle that ends in death when your sister smashes your toe bones with her suitcase.
Which is why you find yourself picking up dog shit from the sidewalk.
Rewind - you are screaming at your sister, because she has just broken your toe bones. But your sister screams back, the way that only a sibling can. You don't remember what you screamed but you feel yourself spinning forward and hitting the floor before your mom's feet.
"STOP IT, NOW!" Mamma screams towards the floor, in your direction. "What did I say about NO VIOLENCE?"
"Warf, warf!" Daisy, the family chihuahua, adds, dashing past you in terror,
As your sister laments in Mamma's arms, you pick yourself up and limp to your bed where you nurse your toe. You expect it to be black and blue and red, but as a matter of fact it is intact after all. It is not even swollen, and as you flex it back and forth although it hurts, the machinery still works. You do not have a broken toe, and your sister is just your sister after all. Tomorrow she will be gone, taking her suitcase with her. And then you will slip quietly into the night to walk Daisy, who was really your sister's dog - one more of the many things your sister has left behind. And when Daisy squats in the middle of the sidewalk to dump a tiny, chihuahua-sized turd, you almost forgive your Mamma.
But what do I know? I'm just the family chihuahua.
