Piccolo stood face to face with a most unusual - if not outright terrifying sight. An android, built in the shape of a girl, had defeated an enemy that Goku and himself struggled to even wound. Even if the enemy was wounded by their combined effort, and a little help from Gohan, he still had enough energy to launch a blast that could have very easily killed Piccolo, turning him to dust. Yet, this girl not only sucked up such a blast, but launched it back at Raditz, leaving only a detached head, arms, and the Saiyan's legs.

Piccolo: "Wh-What are you…?"

The android turned to face the demon king's son, her eyes very stoic as she seemed to be… scanning him.

#19 Alpha: "You are Demon King Piccolo Junior. Son of the late Demon King Piccolo Senior. You are not my directive."

Rather than answer, the android simply moved to Goku's body. Goku, who was barely clinging to life, watched as the android approached him.

Goku: "...Wh-Who…?"

#19 Alpha: "Directive: Find Son Goku. Complete. …No further directive."

The fighters then heard the sound of a ship as Bulma, Krillin, and Roshi arrive, seeing the gruesome leftovers of Raditz and Goku dying on the ground. Piccolo gives a shortened explanation of events, even admitting that Goku was a needless death due to Raditz escaping his grasp.

Piccolo: "And then there's this girl. She showed up out of nowhere and absorbed that Saiyan's blast meant for me. I can't feel anything from her, but the fact she hasn't done anything outside of killing that Raditz guy…"

Bulma: "She's… a Red Ribbon android!?"

Bulma spots the familiar logo of the Red Ribbon Army on the android's belt buckle. This news causes Krillin and Roshi to immediately get on guard. But Goku's gasps in pain quickly shift their priorities. The android watches as Goku's life signs fade then Goku's body vanishes, much to the confusion of the humans. Even Piccolo is a bit confused, but then gets a telepathic message from Kami.

Piccolo: "...So that's it."

Krillin: "Huh?"

Piccolo: "Kami senses something coming to Earth. It's still far off, but something powerful is coming, so Goku is being sent to Other World to receive special training. And if I had to guess… It's probably those two other Saiyans…"

Bulma: "T-Two other…"

Bulma and the humans get blue in the face as they realize just how screwed they are. What do they do?

Roshi: "Wh-What about miss robot over there? …Would it be wrong to see what makes her tick…?"

The android turns to Roshi, causing him to get second thoughts.

Bulma: "Well… She doesn't seem… hostile…"

Bulma approaches the android slowly, seeing if the android would hurt her by proximity.

#19 Alpha: "...You are… Bulma. Daughter of Dr. Briefs from Capsule Corporation based in West City. Friend of Son Goku."

Bulma just freezes as the android stated that without looking at her. In fact, she continued to stare at Roshi.

#19 Alpha: "Perverted tendencies detected in that one. Will initiate battle protocol if the old man steps within a ten feet radius."

Roshi got the hint and quickly stepped as far back as he could in a panic, not wanting to be turned into what Raditz was. Once Roshi was scared away, the android then turned to Bulma.

#19 Alpha: "My directive is to find Son Goku. Though my directive was complete, Son Goku was lost due to sudden teleportation. And due to his condition at that time, attempting to locate him will prove most difficult."

Krillin: "Difficult nothing… Goku is in Other World now. You wouldn't find Goku even if you tried."

The robot paused before seemingly scanning her internal memory.

#19 Alpha: "Lack of suitable data on this… "Other World". If Son Goku is gone, then my initial directive cannot be completed."

As Bulma and Krillin discuss what to do with the android, Piccolo walks over to the unconscious Gohan and lifts him up, causing Roshi to shout and ask what he's planning to do with the boy.

Piccolo: "Relax. I intend to train up the kid to fight. If more of those Saiyans are coming, then unlocking this kid's potential needs to be a necessity."

Krillin: "But what about Chi-Chi?"

Piccolo: "Not my problem. Just tell her that her son is in good hands."

Piccolo gives a less than pleasant smile before flying away with Gohan. Krillin was angry, but… Piccolo had a point about needing all hands on deck. The group turn back to the android.

Bulma: "So… Um… Do you have a name? Or a number?"

The android remains stoic, virtually unmoving before finally speaking.

#19 Alpha: "I was built as a test for another android. Thus, I was never given a proper designation."

Bulma: "Would you be willing to come with us to Capsule Corp. then?"

More silence before nodding, agreeing to join Bulma to Capsule Corp. The scientist bids Krillin and Roshi goodbye, with the duo now panicking about telling Chi-Chi about Goku and Gohan.

At Capsule Corp, the android was scanned multiple times on an operating table as Dr. Briefs and Buma analyzed the inner workings of their patient. When they detected a live, but unarmed bomb, they deactivated that right away.

Bulma: "According to the scans, the android is entirely mechanical, just like Eighter years ago. Looking into her coding, there's a lot of complicated jumbles…"

Dr. Briefs: "I'll say this much. Whoever built this young lady is a genius in their own right, but they clearly had a more devious design in mind."

Bulma: "Whoever built her was smart too. They blocked out all information that could be traced back to them. Um… Android?"

The android opened her eyes, looking at Bulma as her body stayed otherwise perfectly still on the operating table.

Bulma: "Could you… tell us who built you?"

#19 Alpha: "That is classified."

Bulma: "...Okay. I figured that was the case… Worth a shot at least…"

Bulma adjusted herself on her seat as she thought about her next question.

Bulma: "Okay. Can you tell us why you were built? Your prime directive."

#19 Alpha: "My directive is to find Son Goku."

Bulma: "A-And… What else?"

Silence. A few minutes of awkward silence. Bulma was about ready to move to a different question until the android spoke up again.

#19 Alpha: "My prime directive is to find Son Goku. There was no directive beyond that. And yet, I do feel like I was made to do more than just find him."

Dr. Briefs: "Hmm… Perhaps there was some kind of corruption during coding that erased a bit of her initial programming. Actually…"

Dr. Briefs approached the android, getting her attention.

Dr. Briefs: "Do you mind telling us where you were activated? And if not specifically where, then a small description would suffice."

#19 Alpha: "Details of my creation are classified. But if a minor description will suffice. I recall seeing piles of robotic parts around me. I underwent a self repair protocol shortly after I was activated. My creator was nowhere to be seen."

Dr. Briefs: "I figured as much. You were defective in the eyes of your creator. A failure."

The android seemed to take offense to that as she glared at the doctor. But given where she woke up, there was… sadly merit to his claim. She was deemed a failure even before she was allowed to test herself. Bulma then chimes in.

Bulma: "Hey, don't get upset. Considering you saved Piccolo and potentially Gohan back there means you're no failure to us. If anything, we could use your help in the fight with the Saiyans."

#19 Alpha: "...Help in the fight with the Saiyans?"

Bulma: "Right… See…"

Bulma then goes into detail about what Raditz told her and her friends when he arrived. As to be expected, this was all brand new knowledge to her, especially the part about Goku being a Saiyan.

Bulma: "So… Would you be willing to lend us a hand? This would give me a chance to more thoroughly study the Red Ribbon Army's technology and maybe make some modifications for the betterment of mankind. And you'll benefit from this too! It's a win-win for everyone!"

The android remained silent. She was unsure of how to process this information; though the idea being useful to mankind did sound appealing, she wasn't very receptive to just anyone digging into her structure and studying her like some experiment.

#19 Alpha: "I will agree to help your cause, Dr. Bulma. But I must ask that you refrain from looking too deep into my body structure. I don't fully trust you."

Bulma steps back and raises her hands in defense as she lightly chuckles. Maybe she did get a bit too far ahead of herself.

Bulma: "Alright. That settles it then. But you'll need a designation… A name in other words…"

Dr. Briefs: "How about 'Bra'? Me and Bikini did say that if we get another daughter, Bra would be a perfect fit."

The jovial doctor laughs and Bulma even considers it, though was saving it for a daughter of her own. Then the android chimes in.

#19 Alpha: "I refuse. Your naming convention - a la the use of undergarments as names - isn't to my preference."

Dr. Briefs: "I was kidding, kiddo. Calm down."

The android looked around, then found something hanging on the wall. It looked to be some calendar.

#19 Alpha: "What is that?"

The duo of scientists look at the calendar before Dr. Briefs investigates it. It was a calendar written in Japanese kanji lettering, with some Penguin Village imagery on it.

Dr. Briefs: "This? This was a gift from Senbei after our last science conference together. He and Arale continue to be an anomaly but he was nice enough to give me a calendar from his home village."

The doctor gives the robot a quick view of the calendar, which she scans. The android goes silent for a moment before speaking again.

#19 Alpha: "Ni… Go… Ni… Go… Nico."

Bulma: "Nico?"

#19 Alpha: "Yes. I would like to be named… Nico."

Dr. Briefs looked at the calendar himself and looked for the words, then realized the meaning.

Dr. Briefs: "Ah. I see. "2" and "5". She's keeping to the numbering convention but giving it a twist. I like it."

Bulma: "Nico… Yeah. It's perfect. From now on, your name is Nico."

The android, now named Nico, seemed to… form a small smile. It was brief, but Bulma could see joy in the android's expression. A new bond was beginning to form as the year long training session was underway. Though in Nico's case, it was less training and more being rebuilt for the battle ahead…
