Spectre: Yep, decided to test this one out. This is basically the opposite or antithesis of the story 'Only Human' where I got permission from the author to use some of his ideas of the fic for this. So basically in this fic, Jack becomes a Cybertronian as opposed to Arcee becoming a human and what would happen after.
Prologue
"Arcee! You came back with the relic! But uh... who's that?"
"But importantly, where's Jack?"
"I-I..."
"Arcee? What happened to Jack?
"I don't know, Ratchet!", the leader of the Autobots heard his second in command's distressed voice, prompting him to leave whatever he was doing and quickly shift his attention to the briefing room.
Optimus watched as Arcee carried what appeared to be a slumped figure about the size of Bumblebee by the arm slung by her shoulder. Before Bulkhead caught him, disturbed by Arcee's visible distress while Bee laid down the damaged relic on the table before he focused his attention back at the newcomer that Arcee had carried, all the while concerned as to what had happened to her partner.
"What happened, Arcee?", Optimus went over as he watched Bulkhead and Bumblebee settle down the Protoform into one of the berths while they placed what appeared to be a damaged relic they were sent to retrieve. "And where is Jack?"
"I-I don't know, Optimus!", he could hear the two-wheeler frightened and panicked voice, trying her best to maintain her composure as she looked back at him with frightened optics. "We were seperated and then that happened! And-"
"Arcee, calm yourself", her leader calmly instructed her, his tone gentle but firm enough to get her to calm down from her hysteria as she watched the protoform being laid down to the berth. "Slowly, tell me what had happened?"
Less than an hour earlier...
Nightfall had come, with the roads and the surrounding terrain being silent save by the wind and the engine of a blue motorcycle as it steered away from the main highway, entering the canyon below them and into an abandoned mining shaft. It skidded to a stop just near the entrance, with its rider removing his helmet and getting off the seat as he took a few steps forward to observe the caverns before him. "We're here", Jack started, hearing his motorcycle transforming into a blue-humanoid figure before she began to check her scanners. "Let's just hope we don't run into any Cons this time"
"Nothing that I could find here," Arcee affirmed, observing her scanner before she shifted her attention to the entrance. "All clear, but keep your eyes peeled for anything that might run into if not the Decepticons"
Jack shrugged at that. "Yeah," he replied to the femme, chuckling at what appeared to be a normal routine for the both of them as they entered the caverns. "I'll keep that in mind. If the Cons aren't getting us any trouble, maybe the Relic will"
"Fat chance" Arcee retorted in amusement, using her headlights for the two of them. "But might as well keep our heads up since they could activate with the slightest contact if we don't know what it would do"
The teen nodded at her instruction. It had been quite a while since they had been on a mission together. So far, and strangely enough, the Decepticons had gone mostly quiet, save for a few Energon mines that were being extracted by their Vehicons. But that didn't mean that it meant any good, not when they had just about plenty of surprises waiting for them.
But with Arcee along with the rest of the Autobots, he shouldn't worry too much. She managed to get his mother back safe and sound and has saved their lives more times than he could count. And he's currently doing his best to return those deeds with whatever he can do for them.
"Hey, Arcee.."
The femme snapped out of her thoughts, shifting her attention to her partner. "Yeah, Jack?"
"How do you feel when you're surrounded with beings that are usually smaller than you?", Arcee looked at him quite oddly at the question that seemed to be out of the blue. "I mean, given that you and the team are giant robots, do you...you know? Felt odd or at least out of place compared back at Cybertron?"
Arcee continued on their trek, unsure as to how to answer that. "I'll level with you, Jack. It felt weird, and I could honestly say that I wasn't comfortable working with humans just to get a hood off our heads from other humans"
"Like the time when you guys meet Agent Fowler?", he asked her, curious.
"Yep, because at that time, there were times I just wanted to go back Cybertron and just continue the fight from there since the team were fugitives at that point since we were on the run from the Cons", she bitterly but somberly recalled. "It was only because of Cliff, Bee, and Bulkhead's nagging that I got used to working with Fowler and other humans"
Jack looked away and focused on their trek. "Why do you ask?", he heard her partner's inquiry to him this time.
"I'm not sure why I did, Arcee", Jack admitted, looking down. "I just thought it'd be cool to think what is like to be a Cybertronian. You know? Transforming and all"
She was about to say that it was nothing like the life of a human, not to mention the war that had lasted who knows how many stellar cycles until her scanner suddenly began to blare. "I've been picking up readings." She said. "So I'm guessing that we're getting closer to the artifact." Her footsteps quickened. "Come on!"
But as she walked, Jack noticed that something was wrong with the path, and he quickly raised his arm to call out to her. "Arcee!"
The two-wheeler didn't have time to react to his call when suddenly an old scaffolding holding an entire ceiling of boulders gave way due to the tremor of her footsteps and she watched helplessly as the path between her and Jack became blocked with rocks. "JACK!" she cried out to him, rushing in to clear some of the debris that separated them.
"I'm alright, Arcee!", he called out to the other side, panting from the sudden exhilaration and turning on his phone. "Can you hear me?"
Arcee felt like she was going to black out, but luckily she didn't. "I do, partner!" She assured him in order to at least give him some relief. "I'll get to you as soon as I find another way around. So stay put!"
"I wouldn't bet on it if I didn't even know where I was right now", he groaned, holding his makeshift flashlight. He turned around, and ahead of them was what seemed to be a clearing within the cave. As he took a few steps in, and his eyes widened to find a very large bronze-coloured metal orb had been embedded into the ground, likely as a result of its having been crash-landed in that area.
Is that one of the Iacon relics?, Jack thought, curious as to what it is or is it capable off when he reached out his hand.
He paused at the last second. No, it's too risky because it might trigger an unwanted reaction upon any contact from anyone. However, from what he could surmise, it could only be activated by someone like Arcee and the Autobot team. So maybe an ordinary being like him wouldn't have an issue taking a closer look?
Of course, his intrusive thoughts won out. And he again reached for the relic, noting a few breaches in its damaged surface. Suddenly, a noise like a turbine began to rise up, and he looked back at the relic, emanating a light that grew increasingly bright.
And the next thing he knew, it consumed him completely.
This is still in its 'concept' phase. So let me know in the comments as to should I continue or not.
