A/N: I have decided to try a non Dumbledore bashing story. I typically prefer bashing stories but I wanted to branch out a little as writer and see what happens. This story will only be a few chapters but I do plan on doing a sequel for when Harry is of Hogwarts age.

Ch 1: Leaving Privet Drive

Minerva has been sitting all day on the hard rock wall as a cat so she could watch over 4 Privet Drive. It wasn't until midnight that Minerva had company. She transformed back to her human self and went up to her husband. "Ah Minnie, my love. I thought you'd be here. Although I thought you would be out celebrating at least for a little while." Albus smiled at her. "Don't you try to charm me Albus. I have been sitting here all day watching these muggles and let me tell you they are the worst people I have ever seen. They are bullies and they are teaching their whale of a son to be a bully too! Harry cannot live here." She said, her Scottish brogue getting thicker as her anger rose. Albus sighed and told his wife, "Min, Harry will be safest here in the muggle world with his family. I know it is hard to leave him here because we have been like grandparents to him but we need to think of his safety." Minerva looked at her husband with tears in her eyes and just nodded at him. She knew he was right but it still hurt her. Lily was like a daughter to them and seeing her fall in love with James and then having little Harry warmed her heart. She was crushed that the young woman and her husband were gone and their child would grow up without knowing his amazing parents.

The two were standing in silence for a few minutes before they heard the sound of a motorcycle approach. When they looked up in the sky they noticed the motorcycle was flying towards them. "That will be Hagrid with young Harry" Albus stated. "Hagrid of all people Albus. Why couldn't I have gone to get Harry?" Minerva asked. "Min, you know if I had let you go then you would have wanted to take Harry home with us and I don't think we could raise him at Hogwarts. And as for Hagrid, I trust him completely and I know you do too in other situations." Albus whispered as pulled his wife in for a hug. Minerva just cried into her husband's shoulders. Hagrid landed the motorcycle and greeted the two professors. "Albus, Minerva. I would have been here sooner but I got caught up talking to Sirius Black. He wanted to take Harry but I told him I had strict orders to bring him to you." Hagrid handed over a bundle of blankets to Albus. "He fell asleep pretty quickly, poor little guy." Hagrid said. Minerva noticed the lightning bolt scar and asked her husband if he could get rid of it but he said, "I wish I could but this scar was made from dark magic so I cannot remove it." Hagrid left to return the bike to Sirius so it was just the Dumbeldores and baby Harry standing outside. "Harry, I love you and I hope you are safe here. I promise when we meet again I will tell you all the stories of your parents." Minerva whispered as she kissed Harry's forehead. Albus watched his wife with sad eyes. Minerva and Albus had always wanted children of their own but unfortunately it never happened so Lily was the closest thing to a daughter they had and now with her gone they were heartbroken. All he wanted was to be able to give her this child but he knew Harry would be safer in the muggle world. Albus placed warming charms on Harry's blankets as well as a charm to keep Harry asleep until his aunt found him and a safety charm that kept anyone but his family from touching him. "Harry, I promise you will be safe with your family." Albus whispered, not realizing how wrong he was. After placing Harry on the stoop, Albus and Minerva gave one last longing look at the baby and took their leave.

One week later

Albus was sitting in his office trying to finish some boring paperwork before heading to bed (his wife has made him sleep on the couch since they left Harry at the Dursleys. 'I love her but she is stubborn.' He thought) All of a sudden one of the shiny devices on his desk started whirring and making noise. "Fawkes, quickly flash us to Privet Drive." Albus told his phoenix as he grabbed hold of the feathers of his familiar. When he landed outside of number four Privet Drive, Albus had a sinking feeling. He walked up to the front door with his wand in hand which was hidden by the long sleeves of his robe. He whispered, "alohomora" and the front door unlocked. He walked inside and was outraged at the sight before him. There was a walrus of a man yelling "freak" at a raven haired toddler and was about to slap the toddler but Albus made his presence known. "How DARE you!" he shouted and the whole room turned to look at the wizard. Petunia Dursley was the first to speak up, "You left this freak of a baby on our doorstep with just a letter. Why would you think we could care for someone as freaky and strange as my sister?!" she spat in disgust. Albus just stared at her with disappointment. "Petunia, I thought you have grown up and gotten over your jealousy. I know if roles were reversed Lily and James would have welcomed your son with open arms and treated him like one of their own. I foolishly believed you would love Harry like another son." Dumbledore explained, "I will be taking Harry home with me. He is not as safe here as I thought." Albus scooped up the toddler who was smiling at him, "gampy!" Harry squealed in delight as he snuggled into Albus's long white beard."It's okay Harry, grampy will protect you. Grammy will be so happy when I tell her we will raise you." Albus said gently and then grimaced, "She will probably be even more smug about her being right and me being wrong." Albus gathered Harry's things and then summoned Fawkes to bring them back to Hogwarts.
