Chapter 8 Staying at the compound
Howard's point of view
When president Ellis vanished in a cloud of ash, General Ross became President, and he came down HARD on the people who were left behind, demonizing us and threatening us with very heavy consequences so much that we stayed at the compound.
Vince's friend suggested going underground and using the tunnels under the foundation to bring in people who were displaced. Manhattan became a literal war zone.
People who did not want to sign the accords or obey the rules were removed from the city limits. Ross made it apparent… it was his way or the highway. Manhattan was under not only a siege but a complete citywide lockdown.
Finally, after two and a half years, Ross suffered a massive cardiac arrest and did not survive. Those of us who had been forced underground emerged from the tunnels.
We made peace with the rebels up top, but it was tentative at best. While we worked on keeping the peace and getting back to some semblance of normal, we continued working through memories… next, it was my turn…
