Day 101, 8:05 AM
They had nothing but time to pack up as much stuff as they needed. None of the kids had medical quirks but they had encyclopedias that helped them identify certain kinds of medicines. Those encyclopedias were back home, safe and sound. Deku and Bakugou grab as many bottles of pills and medicine as they can carry and stuff them into their backpacks. Feeling something was off, Deku looked behind him and saw Uraraka and Kirishima keeping a lookout. Nothing to be concerned about; if there were, surely the two students would give them a heads up. Uraraka continues to wield the sword and play with it for a while while Kirishima is constantly checking his arm to make sure that his skin is indeed fine. No wounds, no broken skin, nothing. He was going to be alright. As long as no blood got into his system, then he should be okay. But... what if making bare skin contact with zombies was enough to -
No, Kirishima thinks, that's not how it works.
Deku grabs the last bottle of painkillers and stuffs them in his backpack. With the entire shelf cleared, Deku begins heading towards the door before Bakugou grabs his shoulder.
"Leave some behind," Bakugou orders, "just in case."
"For other people, right?" Deku inquires.
Bakugou shakes his head. "We gotta have something to scavenge for when we need to."
Deku nods. "Okay. I get it."
"Let's hide them."
Seeing that the floors were hardwood, Bakugou takes his knife and carves a hole into the ground. They were lucky there was nothing underneath the floors and something of a crawlspace. Bakugou removes his backpack and removes several bottles. He hands them to Deku before dropping the backpack in the crawlspace. He covers the trapdoor using a table from inside the store and locks the door behind them.
"Where's your backpack?" Kirishima asks.
"I left it behind along with some medicine in case we need to scavenge later. Come on, let's get out of here."
"Yeah," Deku nods, "let's get back to the bus."
"I'm taking this with me," Uraraka declares.
The four of them quickly rush out of the store and begin making a run for it. Halfway across the street, they stopped when they heard the infamous sounds of the infamous zombie growls. Looking to their left, a small horde of sixty walkers and runners give off roars that sound like nails on chalkboards and come after the students.
"AP Shot!" Bakogou blasts the first zombie through the chest and blows several zombies down but doesn't kill any of them. He aims at a runner and shoots him as he gets in close.
The runners rush for the group and the students back away. Deku takes out his matchbook and lights a match. He increases the size of the small flame and launches it at the zombies. The zombies burn but none of them seem to go down. Deku hisses under his breath.
Damn it, even with my quirk, I'm STILL useless. Goddaman it, Izuku.
Now that the first twelve runners were on fire, they lunged toward the survivors with burning fury. The four students run back with Kirishima activating his quirk and making himself hard as a rock. Several runners pounce on him but he pushes them back. Uraraka takes a risk and stabs one of the flaming runners through the head and kills it. She turns to the second burning runner and stabs it through the brain but this time, she misses the brain by half an inch.
The burning runner grabs Uraraks' arm and nearly scratches her had she not pulled away in time.
Deku shoves the burning runner away and pins it down. Uraraka grabs the sword and stakes it through the brain, killing the zombie.
"Deku!" Bakugou shouts as he blasts two more zombies away. "I don't know about you but how about putting out these flames?!"
Deku uses his quirk to reduce the size of the flames on the walkers and reduces them to a charred stumbling corpse state. The flames were now little more than spars like metal scraping against the concrete ground.
"Perfect." Bakugou smiles and uses his auto-cannon ultimate move to knock several walkers and runners down.
On the other side of the street, coming out of the retail store, Kodai grabs a rock and enlarges its size at the last second as she throws it. She crushes several walkers under the enlarged rock and several zombies come tumbling for her. Sero comes out and quickly uses his tape to make a barricade between an alleyway they back into.
The zombies get caught in the tape and Pony uses her horns to pierce some of the zombies in the skull. "Don't come near us!" Pony begs. "No zombie eat today!" She recalls the horns and they got some blood on her but they don't affect her in any way.
Mashiro looks behind him and sees several walkers converging on the other side of the alleyway. Mashiro glares and uses her quirk to trip the four running zombies. Sero turns and uses his tape quirk to restrain the zombies and the four students rush to the other side of the alleyway. Deku and his group join them and once they are through, Sero quickly tapes up the rest of the alleyway. They continue to make a run for it and regroup with Kaminari and his team as they run from runners.
Jirou uses her heartbeat distortion to cause the runners to tumble while Froppy leads the walkers away by jumping into the horde and distracting them.
Kaminari and Kuroiro stay back and wait. Their quirks were not compatible at the moment for them to use so they opted to stay behind. They grab as many backpacks as they can, four each, and make a run for it.
"We're getting these bags back to the bus!" Kuroiro shouts.
"We'll be quick!" Kaminari assures.
Kaminari and Kuroiro make a run for it and head back in the direction of the bus. They pause when they see another horde forming in the direction of the bus and they clench their fists.
Kaminari runs in the other direction and sees a runner charge for him. He can sidestep the runner at the last second before Kuroiro trips the runner.
"Holy shit, I saw death's door!" Kaminari screams.
Kurorio sees shadows dark enough for him to merge into the small buildings. "I can carry you to the bus through the shadows."
"You can only carry so much, man!"
Kaminari drops the backpacks near Kuroiro's feet and attracts the attention of the horde of twelve zombies. "Hey, over here! Free human meat!"
The walkers stumble towards him but the runners make it personal and sprint at him.
Kuroiro merges into the shadows and takes the four backpacks with him while Kaminari makes a run for them. Kaminari runs past a walker, sidestepping it at the last second before doing some insane parkour skills over a dead car. The runners bounce off the car while Kaminari rolls over the roof like a pro and lands on the other side with finesse. He makes a run for it, the runners still chasing after the electric boy before he slides under a dead truck. Coming out on the other side, walkers almost grab him but he manages to kick one back before reaching the front of the truck. The zombies converge on him but he manages to climb up the hood of the truck and make it to the roof. Safe on the roof, Kaminari looks down at the zombie horde and takes a moment to catch his breath.
"Is that all you got, huh?!"
He sees the building of the shadows Kuroiro merged in earlier and sees him returning with both of his hands free. Kuroiro leaps out of the shadows, grabs the backpacks, and merges with the shadows once more before leaving.
Bakugou continued to fire at the zombies but the zombies were starting to switch tactics. Instead of the runners blindly charging for Bakugou, they slow to a stop and pretend to be walkers, making Bakugou lose track of who the real runners and walkers are. When he kills five zombies with his AP shot and blows four more away with a single blast, the hidden runners turn off their faux-walker mode and leap for Bakugou.
Deku notices this little tactic and grits his teeth. "There's a brainiac in the horde!"
"No shit, nerd!" Bakugou blasts two more zombies to the ground but doesn't succeed in killing them. "Walkers and runners are shit without brainiacs."
The students do everything they can to ward off the zombies, using most of their quirks to either restrain the zombies with tape, blocking off their path with enlarged items, or even going in, throwing caution to the wind with a hardening quirk. The students pant and mostly back away from the zombies with most of them trembling and not a single one going without shaking their legs in fear. Not even Bakugou.
Jirou uses heartbeat distortion on the ground and causes several more zombies to tumble. She shoots sound waves at the runners to slow them down as Pony uses her quirk to stab them in the brains. But even so, one of her horns got stuck deep inside a walker's skull that it didn't come out until later.
Bakugou flies into the air and uses his quirk to Hotwiter blast the zombie horde. He blows at least twelve zombies away but only two of them died from severe head trauma. Bakugou lands on the ground with rapidly blinking eyes.
What is going on? These zombies are a lot tougher to kill than the movies make them out to be. They're immortal unless taken down with a headshot. But my quirk is better for wide-area damage, not headshots. But at the very least, I can blow their legs away to slow them down.
Bakugou blasts at the legs of the zombies and renders them walker-less and runner-less.
Heh, looks like I created a new zombie variant: the crawlers.
A zombie playing dead behind him grabs the back of Bakugou's leg and almost bites him. Bakgou blasts the zombie away with his explosions and kills it. He looks at his leg. Had it not been for his durable sleeves, the zombie would've bit right through his pant legs and broken the skin. Bakugou pants harshly and looks at his hands. "Damn it, my hands are starting to cramp."
He only managed to kill fourteen zombies out of the slowly ever-growing horde and somehow, he was already overusing his quirk.
"Holy shit!" Kaminari gasps as he points out something in the distance. "Guys, there's a bigger horde coming this way!"
In the distance behind the previously medium-size horde, comes a bigger horde of one hundred and fifty zombies, mostly of the walker and runner variant. No beasts but as for brainiacs... there was a good chance at least one brainiac was in the horde. The worst thing about brainiacs was that they had no distinct look. Beasts were easy to identify with their large size but walkers, runners, and brainaics, just looked like regular human zombies with only a very slight decaying appearance.
Kaminari clenches his fists. "Guys, get me out of here!"
Froppy scales the building and uses her tongue to catch Kaminari. She leaps off of the building, taking Kaminari with him, and leaps in the direction of the bus.
Much to their horror, zombies were blocking off the direction to the bus, around 66 zombies and most of them were walking in the direction of Tokoyami. Tokoyami was outside the bus, using Dark Shadow to fend off the zombies but even with this cloudy setting, there wasn't enough darkness for Dark Shadow to use his full power so Dark Shadow was reduced to swatting the zombies back.
"Tsu," Kaminari shouts, "put me down and get out."
Tsu looks at Kaminari before nodding. She releases her tongue on Kaminari and leaps over the horde of zombies. The frog girl lands on the other side and uses her tongue to capture Tokoyami and leap away with him.
"Indiscriminate Shock!" Kaminari rushes for the zombie horde. "TWO MILLION VOLTS!"
Kaminari discharges his electricity on the horde of sixty-six zombies and after ten seconds, the horde fries to a crisp and drops dead. Well, dead dead. He was lucky that the zombies weren't too spread out because if they were, he could probably only manage to kill maybe two-thirds of the zombies but since the horde was clumped and crowded together, the electricity burned all of them.
Kaminari smiles. "Yay."
Tsu and Tokoyami land on the ground and step over the burning corpses. They run for the bus and climb in. Tokoyami starts the bus up while Kuroiro, who was watching from the side, grabs Kaminari and drags him to the bus.
"Bike..." Jamminay-Yay manages to say and Kuroiro looks out to see Kaminari's dirt bike.
"Leave it."
Jamming-Yay gives a sad look.
The rest of the students quickly make a run for the bus. Kodai trips on one of the burned corpses and falls headfirst to the ground. Wincing, she picks herself up and makes a run for it. Seeing Kaminari's dirt bike, she shrinks it and carries it in her hands as she climbs on board.
"Come on!" Deku urges as all but him and Bakugou climb on. "Kacchan, hurry!"
Bakugou winced and clenched his hands. The cramps were starting to get to him because his controlled AP Shots were becoming erratic, and unaimed.
Deku climbs onto the bus and heads to the back. He trips on a backpack in the walkway and hits his knee hard. Wincing, he makes it to the backdoor and opens it up. Deku reaches his hand out, grabs Kacchan, and pulls him in.
"We're all in, go!"
Tokoyami steps on the gas and drives off.
8:30 AM
"Is everyone okay?" Tokoyami asks.
"We are," Kuroiro smiles. "Fate was kind enough to deal us a hand of good fortune today."
"Long live eternal darkness, my brother."
"We're fine," Sero pants as he leans against his seat. "We got some good stuff too."
"Plus Ultra!" Jamming-Yay laughs as he thrusts two thumbs up. Sitting beside him, Jirou laughs with all the energy in her belly.
"Haha, you're completely hopeless, loser."
Deku and Kacchan sit in the back. Bakugou lets his hands rest up after cramping and removes his gauntlets. "Hey extras, what did we manage to grab?"
Pony pulls out her high heels. "Aren't they cute?"
"What?!" Bakugou stands up. "What the hell?! we were supposed to grab the essentials; not go shopping."
"But Pony liked them," the horn girl hesitates.
"Leave her alone," Kuroiro orders, "if my classmate wants a pair of high heels, then that's fine by me."
"How is a pair of high heels supposed to help us, goddamn it?!"
Deku stands up. "Kacchan..."
"Stay out of this, nerd." He turns to Kuroiro. "What did you manage to pick up from the grocery store."
"A lot of fruit and water bottles," Froppy answers, "ribbit."
"Food to last us for a long time," Jirou adds, "I'd say we did good."
"And look who's talking," Sero grins, "you're the only one without a backpack."
"I let my backpack behind just in case, tape arms."
"Nah, you're just sad because we managed to fill our backpack up with things and you didn't."
"Ahh looks like someone is jealous," Kuroiro smirks, "but it's okay, we got things to keep us alive. And it's not like Kaminari didn't kill a horde of zombies by himself while you only killed like what... three?"
"Fifteen, dumbass."
"Bike..." Jammingay-Yay complains once more.
"Here," Kodai informs before holding up the shrunken bike.
"Bike." Jamming-Yay grabs the bike and holds it in his hands like a child holding his favorite toy in their hands.
"Guys," Tokoyami says at the front, "be grateful that we came back alive. Is any wounded?"
"I almost got bit a couple of times," Kirishima admits, "but no close calls."
"Same here," Mashiro nods.
"If everyone made it back unharmed, then we can complain about it later." Tokoyami stops at a stop sign and looks both ways. He made a wide turn to the left.
"We grabbed some medicine," Deku mentions, "we found a stash of medicine in our store. Kacchan put some medicine in his bang and made a crawlspace for us in case we needed to go back."
"Smart thinking," Kirishima praises, "you can't be too careful in this world."
"I got a sword," Uraraka smiles, "I'm going to keep it and learn how to use it properly. I mean, Gunhead taught me some martial arts with some knife techniques but... the sword is harder to wield than a knife."
"We need to work on our zombie killing skills," Mashiro mentions, "zombies are a lot harder to kill than we thought. I mean, I don't think I've killed a zombie before."
Tsu sticks out her tongue. "It's a good thing we left, ribbit. Kaminari saw a bigger zombie horde coming our way. I we waited any longer, we would've been overrun."
"I could take those zombies," Bakugou snaps, "I don't care how big the horde is."
Jirou rolls her eyes. "How pathetic. Let's just be grateful we're out of there."
Tokoyami sees a sign saying the speed limit is forty kilometers per hour and slows to match the speed.
9:00 AM
UA Safehouse
The bus pulls up and the gate opens for them. Tokoyami parks the bus to the side and several students come running out of the front door.
Jirou and Kaminari are the first to step off the bus. As they step off, they stand to the side and watch as Kodai returns Kaminari's bike to its original size.
"Suzy..." Kaminari laughs and hugs the bike.
Jirou rolls her eyes. "It's just a bike, moron."
Kaibara comes running out the front door and sees Kodai.
"Yui." He runs to her and wraps her in a hug. It wasn't just a regular hug, it was a hug where their chests were placed in a way their hearts were touching. It was an intimate hug, one that wasn't so one-sided when Kodai hugged Kaibara back.
"Sen," Kodai whispers.
Hatsume steps out of the safe house with a wrench in her hands. "So then, students, what did you guys get me today?" She runs onto the bus without missing and beat and grabs a random backpack. She pulls out a pair of high heels. "Ooh, the things I can do with these things."
Still on the bus, Pony snatches the shoes. "Pony's."
Iida comes charging out and approaches the 1A students. "Classmates, how did it go? Was anybody injured?" He spots the specks of dirt and scraps on their bodies, along with Kaminari in Jamming-Yay mode. "You encountered zombies?"
"No one was injured."
"Then why is Bakugou massaging his hands?"
"I overused my quirk a few times, four eyes." Bakugou growls and walks off.
Kendo comes out and grabs Kuroiro's shoulder. "Are you okay? Everyone okay?"
Kuroiro smiles. "Yes. We made quite a couple of finds out there. We'll be fine. We got enough food and supplies to last for -" He pauses and his eyes go wide when he sees Komori walking out the front doors. With Kendo becoming an afterthought in his mind, Kuroiro walks up to Kuroiro and stops. He looks at the short girl and smiles.
"Komori."
"Shroom."
He laughs. "I made it. I made it back."
"Are you okay?"
He laughs again. "You can't harm someone like me; I've been touched by darkness and lived." He pulls something out of his jacket. "Also, I got you a copy of the latest magazine on Idol Heroes."
Komori grabs the magazine and smiles. "Thank you, shroom."
"No problem, mushroom girl."
She hugs him before heading back inside.
Oh my god, she hugged me. Oh my god, she HUGGED ME!
After pulling the rest of the items inside, Kaminari's Jamminga-Yay mode finally reverts to regular mode. With his condition back, he wheels the dirt bike into the courtyard and waves to Kodai, who is sitting on the couch with Kaibara. "Hey, Kodai, thanks for saving Suzy."
Kodai nods.
As the students sort through the backpacks and pull what they can out, Tetsutestu and Kirishima bump heads with each other in the manly friendly way.
"That is so awesome, man!" Tetsutestu smiles. "I am so jealous of you. Unlike you, there's a limit to how tough and durable I can become but you... if you're even overrun by zombies, you can always make yourself harder and harder and make yourself immune to zombie bites. If I don't get enough iron in my meals, I'm weak."
"Thank you, man," Kirishima smiles, "thanks for the kind words. But don't be so hard on yourself. There are other ways you can be durable against zombies. I mean... zombies can't bite through steel."
Tetsutesu looks down to the ground and his eyes go wide. "You're right, I never realized that. Thank you, man, thank you for helping me realize my strength."
"That's what brothers are for man, looking out for each other. It's what a real man does."
"And you're pretty manly yourself, Kirishima."
"You too, Tetsutetsu."
Shoda looks over at them and rolls his eyes. "Here they go again."
Kaminari comes back inside and sits at one of the tables. He laces his fingers together and pulls a chair for his friend, Mineta, to come sit next to him.
"Kaminari bro, is it true?" the short boy asks. "Did you take out a horde all by yourself?"
He nods. "Yeah, a big horde. Like, over fifty or sixty."
"Nice." Mineta smiles.
"I saw it myself," Kurorio smiles before pulling a chair out and taking it. He sits across from Kaminari. "I'm sorry I wasn't quick enough earlier. I'm sorry I didn't grab you when I had the chance."
"Hey, I can take care of myself," Kaminari defends. "Don't worry, I'm pretty quick on my feet."
"Nice moves you pulled there," Jirou says before pulling a chair out and joining the trio. "Yeah, he's pretty agile. And here I was, thinking all of manvueing at Isamu was just a one-time thing."
Deku comes into the living room with his notebook in hand. He writes a few things down and walks up to Iida and Kendo.
"Okay guys, so... I've been taking inventory of everything we got and I think that if we continue to ration the food the way we've been doing for the last few months, then we could survive for a few more months."
Iida strokes his chin. "It's a good thing you've been taking inventory, Midoriya because I've been too busy keeping track of everyone who is here and who isn't here."
"And I'm having Shioaki and Yanagi tending to the injuries of everyone else."
"No one was too badly injured," Deku assured, "some of us tripped a few times but nothing too major. We should all be fine for now."
"Still, better safe than sorry," Iida argues.
"Yeah, I guess you have a point there."
"And one more thing, Midoriay, the next time you see a zombie horde, don't hesitate to run away."
Deku furrows his brows. "We had to do what we had to do to get the backpacks out. Those backpacks had our supplies."
"I understand your intentions but trust me, you not making it back would hurt a lot worse than you coming back with nothing."
"Oh..." Deku gasps breathlessly, "Thanks, Iida."
"Does your quirk work against zombies?" Kendo suddenly questions. "We heard that Kaminari cut through a horde of zombies like butter but you... does your fire quirk work against zombies?"
Iida chops the air. "That is true, zombies go down with headshots but with your quirk -"
"I'll make it work," Deku cuts off. "I promise. I'll find a way to kill zombies with fire."
Iida flinches slightly. He pauses and contemplates. "I've seen what you've done at the sports festival. Even when you lost, you still proved to be handy with your quirk. How many offers did you get?"
Deku gives him a weird look. "Uhh... none."
Iida clenches his fists and winces. "Curse my stupid memory."
"No, it's okay, Iida; the sports festival was a long time ago."
"No, but it's got me thinking; we should all be working on our quirks. Remember the training camp? We were working on getting better with our quirks so we could take the Privional Licensing Exams. Thank you, Midrdiya, for bringing this idea to me."
Iida turns to the rest of the class with Kendo by his side. "Listen up everyone!'
~SILENCE~
"It has been brought to my attention that some people have quirks incompatible with zombies. Indeed, some of our quirks work well when dealing with zombies and others aren't doing so well. That is why I propose the following idea: We start the Training Camps 2.0, Zombie Variant."
The students go wide eye. Their memories of the training camp are invaded by a quote that Aizawa and Vlad King told them: "This is going to be so hard, you'll feel like you're dying."
We're going to be feeling like we're dying... the students think, AGAIN?!
