I got my Hogwarts letter and Cass took me to Diagon Alley.
The only new thing we got was my cauldron and school books.
Then we walked past Ollivanders. "Severus stay close, we're going somewhere special for your wand," Cassius explained, leading me through a darker path where multiple beggars were gowling for money.
We stopped at the door over it, said wand makers. "Is this a second-hand store?" I was disappointed, I had hoped to get my wand, not something handed down.
Cassius smiled at me. "Sev, don't you trust me?" I was confused about what he was talking about.
"Cass I trust you more than anyone and I understand if we have to get a wand secondhand." He just opened the door. We entered a place that looked like some kind of luxury shop with wands holsters and behind glass wand canes.
"We're from the line of Prince, Severus, we have our wands made." The store owner came out from the back. "That's what mother told me."
"Welcome and— oh come on!" The man was irritated. "How many spawns did Eileen have?"
Cassius smirked. "We have a little sister, but she's still nine."
"I welcome the children of the house prince, I am Aurum of house Circe. What is your name child?" I was shocked, was my mother's family rich?
"S-severus Tobias snape Sir." I was frozen. The man towered over me, his eyes a warm ember almost like gold.
"Good, follow me if you wish to gain a wand." I followed him with Cassius walking behind me. We entered what seemed to be a storeroom filled with shelves with planks of wood. "Drink this." He gave me a potion, I turned to Cassius who nodded and I drank it.
I felt odd if something was pulling me. "Don't worry, go where you feel the strongest pull." I did as told walking toward the shelves feeling a small pull here and there, but then I walked to one that had a strangling hold over me I ran toward if I was being pulled.
"It wants me."
I was given a different potion and it tasted like rotten fish, the hold disappeared. "Laurel, rewarding likes to go productive or creative users" Aurum said, marking the plank on the shelf I had pointed.
"What happened?" I asked and Aurum looked at me.
"That potion opened your senses, and you felt the wood best suited to you boy." I nodded understanding what that pulling sensation meant. "Now to your core." He brought me to a room filled with jars inside them, parts of magical creatures like some kind of butcher shop. "Sit here while I get the potion."
They left me in the room and locked it. I sat there bored looking around, I saw dragon claws, goblin nails, one said Grim hair. I sat there for what felt like hours and almost fell asleep. Then one of the jars just fell, and I panicked as the door opened. "I didn't do anything!" I pleaded I was lucky the jar didn't break.
Aurum walked passed to the jar and removed "Chimera heart strings, what is it with you and Greek creatures? They're the most expensive to import." I gulped and worried about the cost. "It was part of the child's selection process, the core must want the wizard but unlike the wood, the creature part has a stronger sway so I can't use the potion again."
Then we were brought to a workshop. "Now you witness the birth of your wand Severus," Cass said as Aurum placed the string on the plank.
"Come here." Aurum pushed me in front of the plank and heartstrings. I looked at it and he gave me a silver blade. "A drop is enough." I cut my hand, a drop fell onto the wood and the knife seemed to drink the blood left on it.
He healed my cut with a spell and I was sent back to Cassius. I sat a few meters away and I watched as he chanted a spell. Before my eyes a sapling grew and turned into a tree, he used a nonverbal spell and cut it. From there he carved it using the the same knife I cut myself with.
"Amazing isn't it?" Cass asked and I nodded.
"Is this why we didn't go to Ollivanders?"
"Ollivander is a cheap old posh Git!" Aurum yelled and then returned to carving my wand.
"It's Because Aurum's family owes a debt to one of our ancestors and we get our wands for free. Mother said a Family debt can only be paid once the head of the family who holds it agrees it's paid or when either family dies out." Family debts in the wizard world must have been very important.
"So do only rich Wizards come here?" Mostly because of how luxurious the store looked.
"No, you most Wizards go that other store because of tradition and—"
Aurum stopped to yell again. "BECAUSE BLOODY DUMBLEDORE GIVES AWAY PHOENIX FEATHERS TO OLLIVANDERS! My family wands are better in quality! That tosser just uses the same three cores and are all premade! Of Course, he gives out wands faster! If the savior of the wizarding world had one of my wands then I would be the talk of the nation instead of the shop where the elderly go to get wand canes." He finished his rant and went back to work.
"Yeah, that's the jist of it," Cass said, pushing me a few inches away from the angry man.
When Aurum was done, I was presented with the wand. The moment I held it felt right, it was like holding my brother's hand with complete power. "It's perfect." I gave it a wave and sparks came from it.
"The core of a chimera. It means your heart and Mind will never agree. But when they do, your true power will be shown. Both cunning and Brave. Honestly, those are traits that make great wizards, I expect great things from you Severus Tobias Snape." I shook his hand and stepped out, still what he said worried me.
"Sev, I don't care if you go to Gryffindor or Slytherin nor will Jully, mostly because I'm certain she will be blowing up any house she joins." I chuckled at that.
Aurum chuckled. "So that Cerberus Core is doing you well Tobias, you shot up like a bean sprout." Aurum smiled. "Is Your Mother still a whore?" I glared at him.
Cass put his hand over me. "He doesn't mean it, he's just trying to destroy the debt by having us attacking him." I continued to glare at Aurum. "And we don't want to lose the ability to receive such Quality products." Aurum smiled at that.
"Exactly! No matter what stress you put it through as long as the wizard lives my wands don't break." I was amazed by that, imagining how many dumb wizards misplace and break their wands, remembering how often Jully broke her pens. "And they don't work for anyone other than their master." I looked at my wand smiling.
A man with silver hair entered with whom I assumed his son was behind him. "Now get out, Good afternoon Lord Malfoy!" Abraxas looked at me and Cass the older man looked at me with what I assumed was interest.
The younger man smiled warmly. "Cassius, is this your brother?"
Cassius presented me, holding onto my shoulder. "Yes, Lucius Malfoy, my brother Severus." I raised my hand and we shook hands.
"Good to meet you, if he's anything like you, I will watch your rise with interest Severus." I smiled and Cassius brought me out.
He looked at me "Be careful Sev, the Malfoy are one of the Families who hate muggle-borns, be friends, be alley but never let them control you. If Gryffindor are natural leaders, Slytherins are advisors." I nodded understanding what he meant.
We got home and Father just sneered at us and we found Jully playing with flying origami. "Show me!" Jully demanded and I conceded she took my wand. "Groovy! Abracadabra!" She said pointing at the window nothing happened.
I just laughed and Cass shook his head. "Say that around Hogwarts and it's Azkaban for you." Cass jokes.
"Lumos?" The wand didn't respond, so I took it back.
"Lumos." And the tip lit up.
"No fair, why doesn't it work for me?" She pouted.
Cass gave his "My wand doesn't work for Severus either." He then offered me his wand.
I tried "Lumos." And failed.
Cass took his wand back. "Your wands don't work for others?" Jully asked and I nodded. "Maybe I can ask Lily." Now I was worried.
The next day we met with Lily and Petunia.
Jully ran to Lily and made her puppy eyes. "Can I see your wand, Lily?"
"Of course Jully" To no one's surprise Lily took out her wand.
Jully had a smirk like a cat about to pounce. "Can I hold it?" Before she was about to fulfill the request, the smartest person spoke.
"Lily no!" Petunia yelled and then Jully was giving her puppy dog eyes. "She's too young, we're barely allowed to use our wands!"
"Please Petunia, I won't do anything wrong." Petunia made the mistake of looking into Jully's Puppy eyes. "You're all going to leave and I want to try your wand before you me alone." She said in a sympathetic and sweet tone.
Petunia was covering her eyes. "Cass, stop your baby sister!"
Her puppy eyes turned to cry. "I'm not a baby!" She cried but both me and Cass knew.
"Don't Cry Jully! Here you can hold it." Jully sniffed.
"Really?" Lily offered her wand and the tears disappeared. "Lumos, Nox, Lumos, Nox…" she repeated while we spoke.
"You got fooled by a nine-year-old," Petunia said, enjoying every word that came from her.
Lily did her best to explain. "She was crying and I'm weak alright?!" She crossed her arms and watched Jully run around with the glowing wand. "I'm going to miss her."
I sighed, and the idea of leaving her alone stung. "I'M GOING TRY THE EXPLOSION CHARM IN THE FOREST!" At that, Cass and Lily ran after her.
I sighed. "Don't worry, my parents said they would keep an eye on her." I turned to Petunia. "You're worried aren't you?" I nodded.
"Of Course I am! We always had each other, I can understand how Cass felt. At Least Jully had me and now she will be alone with mother and him." I sneered at the mention of our father.
Petunia continued. "It's normal Sev, she's the baby of your family. Of Course, you will be worried and feel guilty." Petunia seemed to lose a little of her color.
"Are you alright Petunia?" I was concerned.
She took a breath. "Don't tell this to Lily, but I was happy to leave home." I was shocked but kept a stoic appearance. "Lily is always the perfect one, pretty, smart and I'm Petunia the giraffe-necked older sister." I rarely spoke with Petunia but that wasn't right.
"Don't say things like, You're one of the smartest students in Hogwarts, right? You're more grown up than Lily."
She smiled. "That's true but compared to her, I'm a star, one of a million and she's the sun." I thought about it.
"Still the prettiest star of them all." She smiled at me and luckily Cass and Lily came back. "What happened to you?"
They were both covered in leaves and twigs. "Miss. The best mage ever here decided to jump across the trees like a jungle child." Cass said, holding her like a barrel. "Who gave her a wham bar?" He asked, holding the wrapper, and several wrappers from different kinds of sweets came out of her pocket.
Petunia accused. "Lily!"
"I didn't give her that!" She defended herself.
Jully spoke up. "Mr. Evans gave me a pound for my birthday and I got all the sweets I could! Hehehehehe!" She was giggling and threw up on Severus' shoes and pants.
Cassius sighed and patted her head. "Are you feeling sad about us leaving?" She nodded. "Thought candy could fill that void?" She nodded again. "Well, I think we should head home." We brought Jully into our room.
The moment we got her into bed. "JUNIOR GET ME A DRINK!" He sighed and went down to the kitchen.
Jully groaned. "You shouldn't have eaten so much." She nodded.
"I'm sorry Mr bird, I had a bad dream about my big brother." I could tell she was delirious.
I was curious, even if all of her dreams were cryptic. "Really what did you dream about?"
She looked at me with a somber expression. "I dreamed of a snake, a lion, and a badger biting my brother, and all of them broke his heart." She started crying again this time in honest pain.
I hugged the words echoing in my head. "I don't want Sev hurt."
She gripped me tightly, then someone spoke from behind me. "Don't worry Jully, I will make sure he's safe." I turned to Cassius and his shirt ripped, He shacked her hair.
"Thank you, Fluffy." She went back to sleep.
"I think she might be a seer," I told my brother, expressing my worry.
He nodded. "If you believe her words, Severus, don't tell anyone she could be a Seer. She could become a target for those hungry for power."
"You don't?" He knew what I meant.
"The future is decided by our decisions and our choices, Severus. Prophecies only lead us to achieve the best possibility or to stop the worst possibility." I nodded to those words that lingered in my mind for the rest of the week. Jully had become very attached to everyone but especially Lily and me. She refused to let me out of sight and never let Lily spend a day without either of us.
When the day came we all went on the Knight Bus to Kings Cross. "I don't want you to leave," Jully said, keeping her eyes away from us.
"Julia, your brothers will be back before you know." Mother spoke in a warm tone. "They will write to you."
"Severus, give her a gift," Cassius said with a smile.
I pulled out the notebook from my bag. "Cass and I made this for you. With this, you can write to me and Cass and we will see what you wrote and vice versa." I handed it to her and she hugged me tightly.
"I will miss you Sev." I hugged her back. She then jumped at Cass and he caught her. "You too Cass, make sure to write!" I saw Lily and Petunia coming through the passage and She ran at Lily hugging her tightly.
Mother turned to us. "Make sure you study and do your best. Cassius keep an eye on your brother and give Professor Slughorn my regards." He nodded and we stepped onto Hogwarts Express.
"Cassius!" We turned to a blond heading toward us. "Was worried you were going by floo again." He turned to us. "Who are these two?"
"Davis, my brother Severus, and our family friend Lily Evans." He nodded, offered his hand and we shook.
"Good to meet you, hope to see you in Slytherin though I would recommend Ravenclaw if you want some real challenge, Cassius is always bored with most of us." I saw my brother roll his eyes.
"If Ford doesn't stop talking about being in the Quidditch team, I might hex his lips shut," Cassius said frustratedly, I knew all his friends, he wrote enough about them. "Let's go before Olley has a heart attack. Bye, Sev, Lily and make some friends, and don't take any random sweets, acid pops burn through your tongue." Lily stiffened.
"What house do you think we will be in Sev?" Lily said, taking out some chocolate.
"I think I will be in Slytherin or Ravenclaw." She nodded.
"Is there a free seat?" A boy with round glasses with messy hair and a boy with black hair looked.
"Um, sure," I said with uncertainty. As they sat in front of us.
"I can't wait for Hogwarts, I hope I will be in Gryffindor like my father." He said proudly, I could tell from his clothes that they were tailored.
"Everyone in my family has been in Slytherin." The dark-haired boy spoke. I smiled a bit, yet the messy-haired boy spoke up.
"Really? I thought you were a good bloke!"
"Maybe, I might break the tradition." He smirked.
Lily spoke up. "What's wrong with Slytherin?" She demanded.
The messy-haired hit spoke first. "It's the house with all the dark wizards and blood purists."
I fumed at that. "My brother is a Slytherin and he's neither of those things." The Black haired boy decided to add his thoughts.
"Hand me down clothes, there's no way you're a pure blood. I bet your brother is a Sniveling Slytherin, sucking up someone right?"
I was turning red and in my fury, I punched the boy with black hair. The messy-haired boy held him back and Lily pulled me away. "Let's find a different compartment, Sev." I nodded following Lily.
Then we found a compartment with three free seats. "H-Hello." Said a Girl reading a Hogwarts history.
Lily "Can we sit here?" The girl nodded and we did so. "I'm Lily Evans."
I introduced myself. "Severus Snape."
He looked at us wide-eyed. "Um I-I'm Mavis Black." My eyes widened at the mention of that name.
"Wait as in the Blacks?"
She looked worried. "I-I Guess, I just found out over the summer."
"What are you talking about Sev?" Lily asked.
"The Blacks are one of the oldest wizarding Families in Britain." The girl seemed to panic. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you." She took out an inhaler.
After one spray she continued. "No worries, just crazy this is all real." I was confused.
Lily spoke first. "What do you mean?"
"My grandfather always said that Magic is real, we're from an old bloodline of wizards. When Professor McGonagall entered my house, Grandpa jumped up in joy seeing a witch."
"Wait if your grandfather knew about wizards, how come you didn't?"
I answered. "Because he's a squib." Lily and Mavis both looked at me out of the loop. "They're like a reverse muggle-born, two or one magical parents but no magic." Lily nodded.
"My family was so happy to find out, especially my brother. He took me on his shoulder and cheered." I nodded, smiling. "But honestly I'm no better than a Muggleborn, grandfather Marius taught me some wizarding etiquette but most things I need to catch up with."
Lily gave a warm smile. "Don't worry, I don't know much either but Severus helped me a lot."
I added. "Sure, we will be in the same year, so we can meet and talk."
He seemed to let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I was worrying so much." We continued to talk our way to Hogwarts. I learned that Mavis' family all were in the military in some form, her grandfather fought in the Second World War while her gran was a spy who was sweet yet had a temper when her grandfather talked about inappropriate topics.
Mavis noticed the train slowing down. "The train stopped, better change." We nodded and I left the Compartment, after they were done I went in and changed.
We rode on boats and Mavis almost fell off because The black-haired boy stepped on her robes, I caught her hand and we all glared at the two boys.
When it came to sorting. Mavis came first, the hall whispered and the Hat yelled "Slytherin!" The Slytherins looked happy but then came the boy I punched.
Sirius sat and the Hat yelled. "Gryffindor!" Shock spread across the Slytherin table and it continued to me and the hat spoke.
"You're a hard choice." The hat said I was shocked. "Hmm You have the ambition to be Slytherin yet I see your fears, you have the heart of Gryffindor yet they would fail you greatly. Your royalty is great however Hufflepuff would stifle you. Your mind there's no better house." Then the hat Yelled. "Ravenclaw!" The Ravenclaw table clapped.
I walked there and Petunia offered a seat to me. "I was expecting you to follow Lily or Cassius. No matter, welcome to Ravenclaw."
I looked toward my brother and I saw him smiling at me. As the last sorting continued, I learned the name of the other boy, James Potter.
The day after classes I found my brother knocking on the Ravenclaw door. One of the prefects stood up. The door spoke. "My first is in sorrow, but not in pain; My second's in stranger, but not in shade; My third's in slaughter, but not in shame; My last is in water, but not in rain. What am I?"
"Who is it?" The Perfect asked with a smirk.
Cass sighed. "Regret." The door opened. "Sev, can you come with me?" I stood up but a prefect stood between us.
"He's my brother so no worries." The Ravenclaw girl nodded and let me go.
We reached the hallways. "I heard you punched the black boy in the nose?"
I lost control yelled out in fury. "HE WAS CALLED YOU A SNIVELING SLYTHERIN!" Cass looked at me. I was frustrated but started taking slow breaths.
"I will handle this, Sev. Please keep your temper till then." I nodded and walked back to the raven claw tower.
authors note: Yea Sev was on some real messed up potions man, hehehe.
but seriously I went into writing this expecting to only do the wand reaction and then sorting. But I got excited and continued to write til i felt like it was time to end the chapter.
Whose perspective do you want next? Lily Arguing with James and Sirius? Julia surviving at home? Petunia trying find a role that Lily can't outshine? Mavis surviving her cousins tormenting because she's from a dead branch? Or Sirius learning some empathy at this age? Anything except Cassius.
