Haruya decided it was getting too late. He was tired from lack of sleep, and worry. The executive told his driver to take him home. They would continue the search after he got some rest. Once home, he was too tired to even go to bed, so he flopped on the couch to rest. His tired eyes slowly began to close, and he fell asleep rather quickly. As he lay there, his right hand lay on his chest where his gun was concealed, and his left hand hung off the edge of the couch. Haruya hadn't slept properly in days, so despite the couch being small and not as soft as a bed, he was in a deep sleep now.
As the sounds of his breathing softly filled the air, something red entered the apartment through an open window. It was a peculiar looking bug. Perhaps a crimson moth. But its wings looked more like dragon wings, and it appeared to even have horns instead of antenna. The strange bug fluttered around as if looking for something. It then found its target. Haruya Shiki lying asleep on the couch.
The dragon moth flew up to Haruya, flying a few circles around Haruya like a shark circling its prey, before seemingly vanishing completely. But, as it vanished a human form appeared in its place. It was Mizuki Akabayashi. The tall red head stared down at Haruya, with his one real eye had a deep vampiric red tint. As he stared it was apparent the look on his face was that of a predator about to pounce its prey.
He moved closer to Haruya, but as he did so the floorboard under his foot creaked slightly. Suddenly Haruya was awake and aiming his gun at the sound. Haruya's eyes widened seeing Mizuki staring back at him. "Mizuki?" Haruya questioned softly, unsure if he was still asleep and this was merely a dream. Mizuki stayed silent, looking at Haruya and the gun now aimed at his own chest. He then looked back at Haruya, and with unnatural speed knocked Haruya to the floor and pinned him down.
The pain shooting through Haruya's body from this action made him realize, he was definitely not dreaming. He looked at Mizuki with a mix of fear, and sorrow. He couldn't believe it. Mizuki was now a monster, and attacking him. Mizuki kept Haruya pinned down, his almost claw like nails digging into Haruya's shoulders. Haruya turned his head away seeing his gun had fallen from his hand and was a few feet away. He tried with all his strength to reach for the gun, but it was too far for him to grab.
Mizuki leaned in closer his breath tickling Haruya's neck. Haruya's heart sank, realizing what was about to happen. Mizuki's fangs slid across Haruya's neck, then slowly sank into his flesh. The jolt of pain made Haruya cry out, clenching his eyes and fists. He could feel the blood from his veins filling into Mizuki's mouth, as the red head began drinking. Haruya moaned slightly in pain, trying to push Mizuki off. But it was futile.
Haruya could feel himself weakening from blood loss. "Mizuki..." He whispered softly, knowing he was going to die. Mizuki stopped drinking, and pulled away. Haruya looked at him, weakened and dizzy from blood loss. The red haired looked down at him licking the blood from his lips. A look of satisfaction on his face. He then leaned in again, this time appearing to aim for the jugular, as to take all the blood at once. Haruya closed his eyes, waiting for the pain and death.
Haruya trembled slightly, waiting for death. But, it never came. Instead he heard a strange noise, like something piercing flesh, and someone gasping in pain. He then felt Mizuki's grasp on him loosen, and heard a thud as Mizuki's body hit the ground. Opening his eyes slowly he saw Mizuki laying on the ground next to him, with a makeshift wooden stake piercing his heart. Haruya's eyes widened at the sight, and was confused. Who did it?
He then saw someone else was in the room with him. Looking at the figure, he was unsure if he should be relieved, or even more worried. Standing in front of him was Izaya Orihara, with a cocky grin on his pale face. The older man glared slightly at Izaya, wondering what he wanted and why he stopped Mizuki.
"Aw, don't glare at me like that Shiki San. After all I just saved you~" Izaya said in his usual mocking tone. Haruya frowned, then looked at Mizuki, worried he was dead. "Relax. Akabayashi San is still alive. I told you before. Staking a vampire won't kill them. Just paralyze them till removed." Izaya explained walking closer and examining Mizuki. "Where the hell have you been?" Haruya finally asked. Still angry that Izaya had ran away without telling him.
"I had a job to do for a client. And didn't want your men watching me. On my way back to my apartment, I ran into a certain...Anna Marie." Izaya said looking at his boss and handing him a bandage wrap for his neck. Haruya took it, surprised Izaya was offering help without being ordered to. "You mean you ran into the very vampire who turned you?" Haruya questioned bandaging his neck as best as he could. Izaya nodded.
"She had a proposal for me. A literal one." Izaya explained helping Haruya bandage his neck. "You mean she asked you to-" "Marry her." Izaya interrupted before Haruya could finish. The older man's eyes widened. "I turned her down since she wasn't my type. And just because she made me a vampire didn't mean I belonged to her. She got mad, and shoved a stake into my heart. I laid there for an unknown amount of time and lost consciousness. When I came to the stake had been removed but still by me. Which is odd that someone out there helped me. But didn't stick around long enough for me to wake up, or tell me why." Izaya explained. Haruya looked at him questioningly.
"And the stake she used on you, you used on Mizuki. And you now knew for a fact it wouldn't kill him, because it didn't kill you." Haruya asked, though it was more of a statement. Izaya nodded. "On my way home, I stopped by Shinra's for some help to bandage my wound. He told me about Akabayashi San, and that Celty was out looking for him. I decided I should try and look as well since with my new sense of smell. I have a better chance tracking him than her. When I tracked his smell here, I snuck in and saw him about to kill you. So, I reacted as quickly as I could to stop him." Izaya told the executive, as he reached into a bag he was carrying.
He pulled out a long silver chain, which luckily wasn't burning his hands since he was wearing gloves. Haruya looked at the chain, then at the informant. "What is that for?" He asked. "To bind Akabayashi San. We could leave the stake in him. But that hurts more than silver. So, by using silver to tie him we can remove the stake, and he will not be able to attack either of us." Izaya said handing the chain to Haruya. "Do his hands and feet. The silver will cause slight burning on touch to his skin. But if he tries breaking them it would hurt and weaken him. Therefore, he cannot escape or fight you." He explained showing he had two silver chains.
Haruya sighed looking down. "Then what?" He mumbled, worrying the only option would be to kill Mizuki. "I've done enough research to know Akabayashi San is under a form of hypnosis by the vampire who created him. The one known as Ivan. So, the only way to permanently sever the control over him is to kill Ivan. Until then we keep Akabayashi San as a form of prisoner. Maybe even use him to find Ivan." Izaya said, in a matter-of-fact tone. "And then we won't have to kill Akabayashi San." Izaya added.
