Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai
Chapter Two-hundred and eighty-three: Onward! To Paldea!
After returning home to Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh region, the reborn trainers relaxed for a bit before they planned to make their way to the Paldea region. In no capacity had any of the reborn trainers, either in their previous lives or in their current one, ever set foot in Paldea. It was going to be uncharted territory for them, and that made the idea of going to Paldea all the more exciting for the whole lot of them.
Dawn in particular, as she's wanting something to perk up her mood. She's still pissy that her asthma, which killed her in her previous life, had isekai'd its way back to her. Although here it would be kept from killing her, it doesn't change the fact that Dawn got back here a facet of her previous life she was by no means in any hurry to get back. Dawn, after she set up what all accolades she got during her previous journey, took out and held her asthma inhaler, looking right at it.
Dawn scowled in bitter annoyance.
As Dawn put her inhaler away, she heard a knock at her bedroom door. "Dawn!" called the voice of Dawn's mom Johanna. Judging by the tone of Johanna's voice, she had nothing but good news that she felt was bound to make Dawn excited.
Curious, Dawn called out, "What is it, mom?"
"Princess Salvia actually came here to see you!" Johanna said through the door, "She wants to speak with you, as well as Trip, Kenny, and Mina!" Dawn was surprised by the announcement; Salvia, the foreign princess who looks like a doppelganger of Dawn herself, came to Twinleaf Town to speak with Dawn as well as Trip, Kenny, and Mina. Dawn was curious as to what sort of business the princess had with her.
She hoped Salvia would save it until all of the reborn trainers were gathered.
...
Luckily for Dawn, Princess Salvia waited until Trip, Kenny, and Mina were all gathered. Saliva sat in a plush armchair in the Berlitz residence living room. Freesia, Salvia's maid slash attendant, stood right behind where Salvia sat. There was also two security guards in the living room, and Dawn got it that no less than half a dozen security guards were in perimeter around the Berlitz residence. The people of Salvia's nation took guarding their royalty very seriously.
"First off, I'd like to offer my condolences to you for how you lost the Monarch title in the World Coronation Series," Salvia said to Dawn, "And it wasn't even due to being bested in battle, it was due to you being dropped from the running following an asthma attack. Also, I even didn't know that you had asthma."
"Neither did I," Dawn remarked, her dry monotone unmistakable.
Gesturing to herself, Salvia said, "Given that you have asthma, you ought to keep your health in mind the next time you decide to get really fat really quickly and then lose the weight just as quickly. I've seen the movies out of Kenny Harris Studios, and it's rather shocking that you're able to-"
"Uhh, Princess Salvia," Freesia cut in, "I believe that Dawn actually uses a fat suit for her roles in the Kenny Harris Studios movies where she's fat."
"Yeppers, Freesia here is correct," Trip confirmed, "Dawn's weight doesn't actually fluctuate like that for real. It's just a fat suit."
Taking out a pen and a small notepad, Kenny said as he wrote something in the notepad, "And the princess joins the list." Kenny also made a note of how Freesia has joined a very exclusive club of folks who got it right the first time that Dawn just uses a fat suit for her roles in his movies where she plays a fat character.
Gesturing to Salvia, Dawn said, "So what is it that you wished to talk about, Salvia?"
"I got it that you and your company here plans to head out to the Paldea region," Salvia began, "That being said, when you get there, can you speak with officials of Paldea's government about arranging for clearance for a tour group from my nation to visit Casseroya Lake?"
"Casseroya Lake?" Dawn asked, looking curious.
Nodding once in understanding, Salvia said, "Casseroya Lake is a large inland body of water located in the northern half of the Paldea region's landmass, more along the northwestern part I'd say. The lake is home to a species of Pokémon called Dodonzo."
"What kind of species of Pokémon is this Dodonzo of which you speak?" Mina asked.
"A species of very large catfish Pokémon," Salvia explained, "Imagine Whiscash, except lighter blue, white where there's supposed to be tannish colors, more grumpy looking, and close to approaching the size of Wailords."
Dawn's eyes widened a bit out of surprise and piqued interest. "You don't say." Gently shaking her head, Dawn went on, "I'm guessing that you and the people of your nation are interested in seeing these Dodonzos."
Salvia nodded once in the affirmative. "Although my nation's leading faith is the worship of Lords Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, we have two other primary religions. One of which has a pantheon of multiple divines that are all depicted as Dodonzos."
"Your nation has a religion that worships Dodonzos," Kenny said.
"Yes," Salvia replied with a single nod in the affirmative, "My nation used to have a small population of Dodonzos living within our lands, every last Dodonzo was kept and raised in captivity, treated with a reverence only topped by how the royal family is tended to." With a regretful expression, the princess went on, "The Dodonzo species is now extinct in my nation, wiped out by a particularly evil act of terrorism carried out by the now long defunct Team Rocket."
Nodding once, Kenny with a grim and unamused expression said, "Yeah, not even Team Scorn is in the business of killing Pokémon. ...Well, except in one specific case where an Admin had killed a shiny Druddigon that was attacking his Admin's Assistant."
Gesturing to Dawn, Salvia went on, "It is the hopes of my nation's people to potentially capture a number of wild Dodonzos and bring them back to our lands, while increasing security for them. We also plan to capture a number of Tatsugiris, a species of Pokémon that live with Dodonzo in a sort of symbiotic relationship. We believe that the Tatsugiris will help with the care of the Dodonzos."
"That's fair," Dawn remarked, "My friends and I will look into it as soon as we get to Paldea and recover from the jetlag that we're bound to-"
"Actually, Dawn," Salvia cut in, "To help with your journey, my nation's shipwrights had, after I had commissioned it, constructed a flying ship for you and your company to use. It's comparable to a flying ship used by a group called the Rising Volt Tacklers."
Dawn, as well as the other reborn trainers, all arched wry eyebrows. "Flying ship?" Dawn said, an even mix of being confused and her interest being piqued.
...
Salvia, Freesia, and the two guards led the reborn trainers outside to see it as a flying ship came flying on in, before landing. It consisted of a bottom half that resembled a large fishing boat, with a large blimp like structure attached to it. There was also a large fin-like structure affixed to the tail end of the blimp part that, according to one of the men who came out of the flying ship, could fold out into a usable battlefield for Pokémon battles.
"Of course, it's really only safe for smaller, less powerful Pokémon to battle on," the man, a butler who served Salvia, said, "If a Pokémon the likes of Princess Salvia's patron divine, Lord Giratina, were to battle on it, the battlefield may break under the sheer force of such fantastical power."
"Yeah it looks like something Black and the other big ones could break," Kenny said, "Might still be useful for training the smaller ones of the new Pokémon the lads and I will catch when we go over to the Paldea region."
Looking curious, Freesia said, "You're going to catch other Pokémon in Paldea?"
Nodding once, Trip explained, "It's been our plan regardless to go to Paldea to see what all it has, see what all new Pokémon we've never seen before is over there, as well as earn badges from the local gyms."
"We're still going to do as Salvia has asked, don't you worry," Dawn said, "In fact, one of us may end up catching a Dodonzo and a Tatsugiri for ourselves, in addition to arranging things for your people to come over and catch a bunch for themselves."
Salvia nodded in understanding. "That's fair."
Looking to the flying ship, Dawn asked, "So you're giving us a flying ship. What's its name?"
Rather than say anything, Salvia took out a set of keys and tossed them to Dawn. "That's for you to decide," Salvia said, "You're the owner."
"You're... also going to want to assemble a crew who would be willing to follow you and your company to wherever the ship goes," Freesia said, "We actually kind of forgot to assemble a crew for you to take along."
Folding his arms over his chest, Kenny said, "Well I think it'd be best if Dawn, Mina, Trip, and I pick our own crew, rather than be supplied with one. We can pick guys we know and trust, rather than get a prepackaged deal of folks we never met before."
Looking surprised, Salvia said, "That's... actually a good point, Kenny. But how will you get the word out that you, Dawn, and the others are looking for crew mates?"
Pointing at the flying ship, Kenny said, "We got a big ol' flying ship sitting here in Twinleaf Town. It's bound to attract attention just by being here."
"A crowd has already assembled to look," Trip said as he pointed out how a group of persons have gathered to look at the flying ship.
Clapping her hands together, Dawn said, "Alright. Let's send word out that we're looking to recruit a crew for the flying ship. Although we might have to come up with a name for it first in case some folks are unsure of sailing on a nameless ship."
Snapping his fingers, Kenny said, "I got it! We'll call it 'The Jelly-Filled Donut'!"
"The..." Trip began, looking like he was having trouble comprehending Kenny for the umpteenth time this week, "...Jelly-Filled Donut."
Explaining his reasoning to the others, Kenny said, "Dawn's flying ship here needs a strong, powerful name so that people knows it's a butt-kicking vessel. And the strongest, most powerful name that I can think of is 'The Jelly-Filled Donut', the reason being is that nothing beats a jelly-filled donut."
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Dawn said, "To be honest, I was expecting something worse than that out of Kenny." Clapping her hands together again, Dawn said, "Tell you what Kenny, if Salvia here doesn't mind a name like that on the ship she's giving us, we'll go with it."
"Actually, jelly-filled donuts are my favorite," Salvia remarked, "I think it's a wonderful idea for a name for the ship." Thus it was that the flying ship that the princess was giving to Dawn had been named The Jelly-Filled Donut. With that out of the way, Dawn, Mina, and Trip went about getting the word out that they're looking for crew mates for the flying ship, while Kenny went about designing a ship flag for The Jelly-Filled Donut.
As she along with Mina and Trip went about looking for crew members, Dawn couldn't help but feel that Brock if he were to see the ship and learn its name would feel insulted on some level.
Meanwhile in a small home in a small but safe town somewhere in the Orange Islands, Ideku Badorigo was looking at the area of the living room where all of his various accolades from various regions were set up. The most recent addition to the collection of various accolades was the trophy that he got for having won the Masters Eight tournament of the most recent season of the World Coronation Series.
Yes indeed, Ideku was the Monarch, the officially ranked number one strongest trainer in the world. It was a very long journey, with setbacks, troubles, and at least one tragic loss. But now that Ideku stood at the absolute highest peak that any trainer could ever hope to achieve, the roaming trainer from the Johto region felt that nothing could go wrong. He hoped that nothing could go wrong, as Ideku had plans.
Plans relating to how he is Pariah, the overall Boss of Team Scorn.
After being immersed in thought as he beheld his latest trophy, Ideku was brought out of his thoughts by a knock at his front door. He went over, looked through the eye hole to see who it was that was outside. A part of Ideku was a bit paranoid that his parents who he is estranged from might end up finding out about the small private residence he keeps here in the Orange Islands, so he was always on guard for that.
Luckily for Ideku, it was just Ayane, his Boss's Assistant in Team Scorn. She was in her current disguise she wore when she had to be in public and wasn't part of a scheme being run. Ideku, with a smile on his face, opened the door to let Ayane in. Ideku and Ayane began dating... pretty much the day he saved her during an attack some of his subordinates ran on Blackthorn City, when Ideku took Ayane in following her circumstances, many of which she's loath to talk about; not even Ideku has a full picture of Ayane's life pre-him.
"Hey Ideku," Ayane said as Ideku closed the door behind her, "So then, how's it feel to be sitting in the highest seat in the world that any trainer could ever hope to achieve?"
"I'm still waiting for the reality of it to sink in," Ideku replied, "I still can't believe that I hold the title of Monarch now."
Giving her boyfriend a wry look of amusement, Ayane said, "There was no way the plan was going to fail. Hell, it was made easier for us because Dawn Berlitz had an asthma attack. She survived, but it doesn't change how what happened knocked her out of the running."
Nodding once, Ideku went on, "And made the path clearer for me. Now all that we need to do is just wait for Admin Slime to carry out all of his duties in prepping the Paldea region for the next major step in my plans." Showing a look of piqued interest, Ideku said, "By the way, does Admin Slime have arrangements made for when he and his mom have to leave Paldea behind?"
"Admin Slime says that he's already got a place set up here in the Orange Islands," Ayane explained, "But not here in the same town you have your house here in. He also asked me if, after the plans for Paldea are carried out, he could move Mask Sector operations here to the Orange Islands."
"Just tell him that under no circumstances are any of his men to do anything in or near this town," Ideku said, "If he asks why, tell him that the boss is investigating personal interests and wants to keep things on the matter to himself."
Ayane gave Ideku a knowing look. "He'll cooperate if I tell him it's something Pariah wants."
Ideku returned Ayane's look with a likewise one of his own. "Of course it's something I want." Giving a shrug, Ideku went on, "Anyway, the plans for Paldea may be difficult to pull off, as Dawn Berlitz and her companions are heading there. If they catch wind of Team Scorn's operations in Paldea, they're bound to fight to stop it. It'll endanger a crucial step that needs to be taken to reach my true goal."
"So how do we stop them from foiling the next part of the plan?" Ayane asked.
"We'll have to bait them out, throw them off our trail time and time again," Ideku said, "Make them think that Team Scorn's plans and goals for Paldea don't extend beyond generic activities for large scale inter-regional criminal organizations to do." Arching a wry eyebrow, Ideku went on, "Paldea is so rife with corruption in its leadership, the region's basically run by corruption. It shouldn't be all too difficult to make Dawn and her friends think Team Scorn is after goal number one when it's really after goal number two."
Stretching her arms into the air, Ayane remarked, "Wow, I can't believe that we're actually getting close to achieving what you have planned! There's nothing that can stop us at this point!"
Shrugging, Ideku replied, "Well, Dawn and her friends if they get lucky and catch onto us." Scowling, the true leader of Team Scorn went on, "They have proven to be a surprisingly crafty and resourceful lot. They are by no means to be underestimated, as every last one of them are powerful trainers of consummate skill and peerless genius."
Back in Twinleaf Town, Kenny was showing Dawn, Mina, and Trip the flag he designed for The Jelly-Filled Donut. "Our ship's flag is an onigiri on a black background?" Trip asked as he looked at the flag Kenny had designed, which was just an onigiri on a black background.
"That's actually a jelly-filled donut," Kenny said, his tone and expression making it clear he thought it to be the most obvious thing in the world.
Dawn pinched the bridge of her nose, letting out a mild sigh of mild exasperation. "Well it could be worse," Dawn said, "Anywho, we have people lined up wanting to join the crew of The Jelly-Filled Donut, so we need to interview all of them. Also, the guy wanting to join as the crew's helmsman says he has to bring his niece along."
Mina clapped her hands together before rubbing them together. "Hoo boy, I can't wait to see who all is joining our flying ship crew to venture with us to Paldea!"
...
The first person that the reborn trainers interviewed for a position in their crew was Heath, the man wanting to join as the captain slash helmsman. He was about as tall as Johanna, but whereas Johanna had a normal slender build, Heath's slender build had a light bit of muscle to it, lacking even the barest scrap of excess fat.
Heath was fair skinned, had slicked back yellow blonde hair with streaks of red in it, and he wore a white sleeveless men's shirt under a green sleeveless jacket that was open in the front, a baggy pair of work pants held up with a belt, and a clunky pair of shoes. Heath seemed to carry about him an air that was equal parts excitement and experience.
Standing next to him was a petite and slender girl about half a head shorter than Dawn; she had the same skin tone as Heath, but had long dark hair worn down straight. She wore a really baggy and oversized hoodie with the hood up, showing that it had cat ear-like points. She wore a baggy pair of cargo shorts held up with a belt although the hoodie was so big it went down almost to the ends of the shorts. She wore white socks and white clunky shoes.
Gesturing to Heath, Dawn said as the other reborn trainers stood with her, "So you're the one who's applying for the position of helmsman on The Jelly-Filled Donut."
"Yeah, the name's Heath," replied Heath as he gave his name, "And no need to look further for a helmsman, because I'm your guy!"
"And who is the young lady next to you?" Mina asked.
The girl next to Heath, knowing now she's being focused on, gave a frightened whimper before hiding behind Heath, burying her face into his back. "Ah, this is my niece Omiyo," Heath said, "I'm her current legal guardian, so I have to bring her along if I join the crew. I submitted all necessary info on both Omiyo and myself in the forms provided."
Dawn nodded once as she took out some filled out forms; all persons wishing to join the crew of The Jelly-Filled Donut have to get a copy of the form and fill it out. For Omiyo's form, Heath filled it out for her. "...Oh, it says here that Omiyo has autism," Dawn said, "Funny that, I've encountered a number of persons with autism before." Checking out Heath's form, Dawn said, "And it shows here that you have a lot of experience with flying ships."
"So what do you say, boss?" Heath began, "Will you let me join the crew and call you boss?"
"We'll have to see if it's doable to let you join as if you do you'll be bringing your niece with you," Dawn said, "Mostly to see if there's room for one extra person than expected. But your record is very appealing for someone wanting to fill the role of helmsman. We'll see who all else wants to join." Heath nodded in understanding and took Omiyo to go wait outside; the interviews were all being conducted in the living room of the Berlitz residence.
...
The next person being interviewed by the reborn trainers was a man named Mitch. The same age as Heath and also fair skinned, but he was taller by almost a full head. Mitch same as Heath had some muscle, but Mitch was a little bit more swole than Heath. Mitch was bald, wore small men's hoop earrings with one in each earlobe, and he wore a variation of the outfit commonly worn by Pokémon Rangers in the Kalos region; it was sleeveless but otherwise unchanged from what was commonly worn by male Pokémon Rangers in the Kalos region.
Mitch held his hat in his hands, close to his chest and with both of his hands. Mitch was very clearly nervous, worried he may not get a spot on the crew.
"It says here in the file you submitted that you retired from active duty as a Pokémon Ranger in Kalos due to a mix of not wanting to have to use modern Ranger tech and how you personally feel that the Kalosian nobility is going to drive Kalos into the ground because of their blatantly defiant refusal to step back and let others help deal with Kalos's local sector of Team Scorn," Dawn said.
"Yes, that is very much true," Mitch said with a nod, "Mitch does not have faith that Kalos's nobility will do right by Kalos. Look at what happened to Kaito Fu, what happened to him due to the actions of a Kalosian noble. And Mitch does not trust the new high tech that Kalos's Rager guard is trying to force the Rangers to use. Mitch has been working good paying, honest job as park ranger here in Sinnoh before he heard the call to adventure you were offering, Champion Dawn."
Dawn nodded once in understanding, feeling amused that Mitch pointed out that Dawn still holds the Sinnoh Champion title. Mitch was also giving off vibes that made Dawn feel like she wants to add him to the crew already, but the interview had to be finished. "It says here you're one of the most accomplished Pokémon Rangers that Kalos ever had, even with your refusal to use modern Ranger tech," Dawn remarked.
Nodding once, Mitch felt a bit more confident, put his fists on his waist. "The tale of Mitch the Ranger has many songs sung about it, but for each song sung about Mitch the Ranger, they sing ten of the Dedenne Den!" Mitch then tossed up a Pokéball to call out a Dedenne that, to the surprise of Dawn and the other reborn trainers, is a shiny.
The shiny Dedenne scurried up Mitch's left leg and eventually got up to his left shoulder and sat there. "Den here has been Mitch's Pokémon partner for many years and through many adventures and feats of heroic heroism," Mitch said.
"It did say in your file you submitted that you do have a Pokémon," Dawn said, "Only one and it's a Denenne. But you failed to note that your Denenne is shiny, has a nickname... you even forgot to put down if it's male or female."
"Oh, Mitch didn't notice those parts," Mitch said, instantly looking worried again, "If Mitch could make the appropriate corrections..."
"It's just those parts," Dawn said, her tone and expression reassuring, "Everything else is solid. And from the looks of it you would make a good fit for the guard role you're interviewing for." Mitch's expression lightened up a bit, some measure of relief brought to him, as Dawn handed back Mitch's file so he could note down his Dedenne's nickname, gender, and status as a shiny Pokémon.
...
The third person that the reborn trainers interviewed was a man named John, who was fair skinned, taller than Heath but shorter than Mitch. John had dark hair in a medium-long length, with said hair looking just a hint wild. He wore a light blue long sleeved shirt under a dark blue scrubs shirt, a pair of scrubs leggings that matched the top, a dark pair of shoes, and he had a stethoscope around his neck. Fitting that he looked like a medical professional, as he was interviewing for the position of nurse slash medic on The Jelly-Filled Donut.
"So wait, you were booted from the Pokémon Center you were working at in Unova solely because you're a guy?" Trip said, "Despite having done absolutely nothing wrong, and actually being one of the best members of the staff?"
Nodding once, John said, "Yeah, apparently Unova's government not only is taking xenophobic measures in its law making, it's also taking sexist measures there as well. As nursing is typically a female-held position, men in the nursing field in Unova are being booted. And it's not just the male nurses working at Pokémon Centers, either."
Sucking in a cringing breath, Trip said, "Yeesh, kind of makes me ashamed of how I'm a naturally born Unovan."
"I know that feel," John replied.
"Well your history is sound and very impressive," Dawn said as she checked John's file, "And you'll most likely be made the crew's medic by virtue of being literally the only one to apply for the spot. A bit of a cheep way to get a spot, but your record really is impressive, I bet you'll deserve it." Kenny took note of how John only has three Pokémon, those being a Blissey, an Audino, and a Comfey. All good Pokémon for a nurse to have.
...
The person interviewed for the spot of cook on The Jelly-Filled Donut was a man named Lance, but NOT the Lance who is Champion of the Indigo League. This Lance was fair skinned and had long hair in a men's ponytail aside from face-framing bangs; Lance's hair was in a reddish-pinkish color, with streaks of yellow in it. About as tall as John (maybe shorter by half an inch), Lance wore a short sleeved white chef's top, a white ascart around his neck, white men's pants, and black shoes.
"Oh wow, it says here you studied cooking for both human and Pokémon customers over in the Johto region," Dawn said as she read Lance's file.
Nodding once, Lance said, "During my travels to learn cooking, before I found a place to settle down at, I learned cooking at a place that had a Mr. Mime and a Sneasel as part of the cooking staff. I was so inspired there, after I learned what I could I went out and caught myself a Mr. Mime and a Sneasel, as a hallmark of my experience."
Dawn gave a single nod. "Yes, your file does mention your Mr. Mime and Sneasel." Jerking a thumb at Kenny and Trip, Dawn said, "Kenny and Trip have some culinary experience, but you've got the edge in sheer education. Although I bet that you all can learn from one another."
"I'm always looking forward to learning more about cooking where and when I can," Lance replied. The mood with Lance was good, especially when he expressed interest in it when Kenny mentioned his campout curry cooking.
...
The last necessary crew member that The Jelly-Filled Donut needed was an engineer, and to the surprise of Dawn and Kenny, the person who showed up to interview for the engineer position was Sho, the guy from Sinnoh who once tried to harass Ash for his Pikachu. Only Dawn's intervention here allowed things to settle peacefully, and Dawn and Kenny even sent Sho in the right direction to catch a Pikachu of his own which he did.
"Yeah, I've studied engineering on flying ships before, actually," Sho said, "The flying ship you guys got looks like a vessel out of the nation ruled by Princess Salvia."
"That's because it is," Dawn replied, "Anyway, if you do join the crew, keep in mind that The Jelly-Filled Donut will first be setting sail for the Paldea region. That being said, do you still wish to join the crew, and if so are you sufficiently packed for such a trip?"
Smirking in amusement, Sho said, "I got all that I need, don't you worry. Also, The Jelly-Filled Donut?"
"That's the name of the flying ship I have," Dawn said, a dry expression on her face and her tone likewise dry, "I basically let Kenny name it."
Pointing at Kenny, Sho said, "He's the same guy who caught a Jigglypuff and named it Wigglytuff."
"It represents his destiny!" Kenny insisted.
...
The next person being interviewed by the reborn trainers for a spot in the crew, again to the surprise of Dawn and Kenny, is Rhyanna, the older sister of Mitchell who ended up taking Maylene's place as the Veilstone City gym leader. "So you're wanting to join the crew of The Jelly-Filled Donut because you wanna expand your horizons," Mina said.
Nodding once, Rhyanna explained, "I think a part of why Mitchell was upset with me not wanting to let him go is because he wanted to expand his horizons. Well, after he beat me in that battle and proved that he was strong enough to stand on his own, even becoming a gym leader no less, it made me realize that, as I was keeping him from expanding his horizons, I was keeping myself from being able to do the same."
"Mitchell is indeed very strong," Dawn said, "But you coming to acknowledge that and allow your little brother to be his own person, well that is a kind of strength in and of itself." Looking at a list she was keeping, Dawn explained, "We have good candidates for all necessary positions in the crew, but we could use some personnel to fill secondary and auxiliary positions. Would you be okay with helping with keeping the living quarters and other areas in the ship clean?"
Nodding once, Rhyanna said, "Sure thing. I... kind of have experience cleaning up after Mitchell, even though he tried to clean up after himself but I told him to let me take care of it. Heh heh." Dawn had a feeling that Rhyanna had been more controlling of Mitchell's life before he won that battle against her, and in effect won the right to be his own person, than what was being let on initially. And it was not even intentional on Rhyanna's part.
Dawn was glad things between Rhyanna and Mitchell were now healthy. Dawn shuddered to think what it'd be like if things between Rhyanna and Mitchell did NOT get healthy, and Rhyanna more or less continued with trying to control her little brother's life.
...
The last person being interviewed by the reborn trainers for a spot in the crew was, to Dawn's surprise, Leona. Leona is a friend that anime!Dawn had in the Sinnoh anime in Dawn's previous life. Leona's family ran a hot springs, and Leona owns a trio of Swinub. "Long time no see, Leona," Dawn remarked, "You aren't mad I haven't kept in touch, are you?"
"Considering you're the Champion of Sinnoh," Leona began, "Have been helping with fighting off the threat of Team Scorn in various regions, had competed in the most recent season of the World Coronation Series, and you've been starring in the movies Kenny has been making and putting out there, I can't fairly blame you. Oh, speaking of Kenny's movies, how come you're the only girl in those movies who ever uses a fat suit?"
"One, because I'm the only girl who's part of the cast for Kenny's movies who is willing to wear a fat suit," Dawn began, "And two, you are one of the few people who got it right the first time that I've just been using a fat suit."
Arching a wry eyebrow, Leona said, "Seriously?"
"Most other folks think that Dawn's going between really thin and really fat really fast for real," Kenny said, "You'd be very surprised to see some of the people who thought Dawn's weight had been going up and down for real."
Gesturing to Leona, Dawn said, "I actually need to tour the inside of The Jelly-Filled Donut so-"
"Wait," Leona interrupted, "We're going inside of a giant donut?"
Sighing, Dawn said, "No, the name of my flying ship is The Jelly-Filled Donut. Kenny came up with the name and I basically rolled with it."
"I also made the ship's flag," Kenny said as he held up the black flag depicting an onigiri.
Giving Kenny a dry look, Leona said, "Yup, you're certainly a character, Kenny." Leona agreed to go tour The Jelly-Filled Donut with Dawn, as they were basically checking out all of the living quarters and other areas of the ship that the crew will normally be in.
The tour was basically to see if there was sufficient space for everyone interviewed, plus Heath's niece, plus the reborn trainers. There were four young girls (Dawn, Mina, Leona, and Omiyo), two young boys (Kenny and Trip), four adult males (Heath, Mitch, John, and Lance), one young adult male (Sho), and one young adult female (Rhyanna). Dawn took this into account when checking the number of personal quarters (bedrooms) that The Jelly-Filled Donut had.
Dawn would be getting the biggest personal quarter to herself as she's the ship's owner, and there were enough personal quarters that, leaving two as guest rooms if need be, everyone who came could join the crew. This, of course, was only provided if some room sharing was done; while still having two guest rooms, Kenny and Trip shared a room, Leona and Mina shared a room, John and Lance shared a room, and Heath and Mitch shared a room.
Rhyanna, Sho, and Omiyo got a room to themselves each; Sho because he's the only young adult male, Rhyanna because she's the only young adult female, and Omiyo because she needed her own space to retreat to in case she's overwhelmed by things grating against her autism. And that was just the personal quarters area of The Jelly-Filled Donut; there were loads of other places on the flying ship to check out.
There was even a party in Twinleaf Town to see The Jelly-Filled Donut off on its maiden voyage, a trip that will take it to the Paldea region. "Oh guys," Dawn said to her crew, "When we arrive in Paldea, in addition to making arrangements for Princess Salvia's nation to send over a delegation to capture some Dodonzos and Tatsugiris, we first have to go to Naranja Academy."
"Ain't that the trainer school that my worthy adversary Rimu goes to?" Kenny asked.
"Penny and Nemona also attend Naranja Academy," Trip pointed out.
Nodding once, Dawn said, "The reason we're due at Naranja Academy is because the headmaster guy who is in charge there wishes to give me and you two boys something as a sign of goodwill for what help we'll provide."
Arching a wry eyebrow, Sho said, "I have heard how you guys go from region to region to help deal with local Team Scorn threats."
"I was told there was some issues with Team Scorn, yes," Dawn said, "But I was also asked to help with some clean up involving a group called Team Star."
"Team Star?" Mina said, "Oh ho ho ho, this is gonna be interesting." Everyone who was part of the crew of The Jelly-Filled Donut had gotten settled in on the flying ship and, as the gathered crowd of Twinleaf Town citizens, with Johanna at the front, cheered them on, the flying ship eventually took up into the sky. With Heath in his role as helmsman, The Jelly-Filled Donut was taking off on its very first flight, its maiden voyage.
A voyage that would take it, and its crew, to the Paldea region.
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-THREE
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the reborn trainers getting ready to set off for Paldea, but stop short when Princess Salvia gives them a major boon that will help them, provided that they make arrangements for Salvia's people upon arriving in Paldea. Said arrangements only need Dawn to clear the way for Salvia's people to come over and catch some Dodonzos and Tatsugiris. Dawn may be called upon again to help Salvia, but it'll be easy work.
But what isn't easy work is what Team Scorn has in mind. Ideku Badorigo, who has been revealed to be Pariah, the overall Boss of Team Scorn, meets with Ayane at his private residence in the Orange Islands to discuss plans for Paldea, and how Admin Slime, aka Rimu, is going to help. There's no knowing what said plans are yet, but whatever they are they can't be good for Paldea as Rimu has arrangements to move to the Orange Islands after the plans go through.
Back to Sinnoh, after Kenny proclaims how nothing beats a jelly-filled donut, Dawn and the other reborn trainers have to drum up a crew to help run the ship. They get Rhyanna who is Mitchell's older sister, Leona who is the friend of anime!Dawn that has a family who runs a hot springs, Sho who is the Sinnoh guy that harassed Ash for Pikachu that one time, and a few new faces that join the crew of The Jelly-Filled Donut.
With a party celebrating the flying ship leaving on its maiden voyage, the crew sets forth for the Paldea region, eager to see what all there is waiting for them there.
