Author's Note: Ooooh boy I'm excited for this chapter! I've been looking forward to this one!
For Zenopatra13 on Chapter 5's review,
Yeah, I can see how confusing this fic can be, especially since it's very loosely based on an old RP I did have with my friend (Sam's creator). Most of it is very cringe, not gonna lie. I was very much a citrus-like person, so much so that it took a bit to even find anything that could be plot-related. Then I spent quite some time worldbuilding a whole AU. I just got so excited about typing out all the details, trying to fill in the gaps, that I didn't see how it'd be confusing until you said something. Go pheasant's eyes. XD That's funny. I was looking up things with meaning behind them and trying to find a way to incorporate them like I used to. Other than all that, thanks for the review and I look forward to the next one.
Long story short, I've had too much free time building this thing and no matter what happens, I'm following through with it.
I hope you guys enjoy this chapter and I'll talk to you all later.
Chapter 6: Coincidental Rescue
"Remind me why we're doing this again?" Kai asked, sounding annoyed at this prospect they were on.
"Cause we're off to find Cole's dream girl." You could swear you'd hear Jay grinning underneath his mask.
"Oh, for the love of," Cole halted himself by biting the inside of his lip before he unleashed anything bad he could say to the Lightning master, "Will you please stop it, Jay? It's not like that."
"Are you sure about that?" He raised his eyebrows at him.
"Bluebell, I am just looking for answers. You can't tell me that you wouldn't do the same if the weird stuff was happening to you too." Cole countered.
Jay just rolled his eyes at him, watching the Earth Ninja look deadpan at him. Cole shook his head and let out a sigh.
"Come on. Let's just keep looking." He went ahead. Kai however had other ideas, jogging up to his side.
"Aww come on. We tried looking everywhere for this 'Sam'." Kai jeered, looking over to the shinobi in black and using air quotations around the name. "Cole, you sure you didn't make her up or something?"
"He didn't make her up. I was there too, you spicy porcupine." Jay quipped right back at him, putting his hands on his hips.
"Yeah, I know that. I'd think you two would mess with us while we should be looking for something important like I don't know the Serpentine or the Fang Blades, in case you've forgotten." Kai's face definitely showed annoyance despite it being mostly covered by his fukumen.
Cole couldn't really deny it. It did sound stupid to look for someone when all he had was just a fleeting moment and some dream that kept constantly repeating itself, never letting him forget it. He just wanted answers and yet it was a hassle to get them.
"No one has forgotten our primary objective, Kai. We will find one of the Fang Blades before Pythor does." Zane spoke up, getting between Cole and Kai before the red ninja could go off on another tangent at him. "However we cannot work as a team if our leader's mind is clouded with questions. What we are doing is helping him find answers." The Nindroid suddenly halted, feeling his sixth sense go off. "I sense danger." He gasped.
"Which way, Frosty?" Cole suddenly looked at him, pulling his Golden Weapon out.
"That way." The Nindroid pointed.
'That's North of here,' Cole thought. He didn't give any of them enough time to even consider what the danger was. The Earth Ninja just acted fast and made his Scythe of Quakes transform into the Tread Assault before he sped right off. Jay coughed from the dirt cloud left behind by the vehicle.
"I can't believe it! The Master of Earth just left us in the dust!" He yelled, still tasting burnt rubber and dirt in his mouth. Yeah, he wasn't going to scrub that out for a long time.
"Come on. Let's get after him before we miss out on the fun!" Kai exclaimed, already speeding after Cole with his Blade Cycle while Zane jumped onto his Snowmobile and Jay flew with his Stormglider.
Serpentine eyes followed the girl's form wherever she wandered.
"Skales says Pythor wants her back alive." One of them hissed in a low tone in their original tongue.
"But why? What is so special about her?" Another whispered right back.
"The king would not say, but no matter what, we must get her." He told the others.
However, one serpentine, in particular, had his ruby eyes transfixed on the reinforced jade bow she was carrying. Despite being a cold-blooded reptilian, he could feel something burning inside. It bubbled and boiled underneath his scales while his now shorter tail wagged cautiously, shaking the rattle at the end. He bared his fangs and had to hold back a hiss from being let loose although he couldn't bother holding himself back because of orders.
"Slithraa! No!" The serpentine commanding the group hissed at him while he rushed past. He didn't pay him any mind. His eyes just focused on the bow in the girl's hands.
Sam had taken notice of the sounds of steps rushing at her and a tail rattling violently. She came to face a Hypnobrai running at her and ready to swing with a pickaxe. Emotions ran rampant in his mind while he swung, missing just as she dodged out of the way. Usually, Slithraa wasn't a sloppy fighter but upon seeing the jade-bladed bow in the human's hands, something deep within the former general had triggered inside him. The other serpentine had no choice but to jump in and join their Hypnobrai brother, ambushing the girl.
She was outnumbered but it wouldn't stop her from trying to defend herself. The Hypnobrai recovered and made for another swing, only meeting a pair of bone daggers crossing over above her before the sharp pick could make contact with her. Another serpentine hissed something at the Hypnobrai in their language but the blue serpent person didn't listen. That same soldier hissed something else at a Constrictai who nodded and burrowed into the ground beneath the asphalt. Sam didn't stick around to find out what he was doing and jumped away from Slithraa just in time when the Constrictai broke out of the ground and made a reach for her. Instead, he found a pickaxe lodged into his plated forehead and the Constrictai let out an ungodly hiss at the carelessness of the Hypnobrai.
Sam watched as the group of Serpentine got closer. She wasn't concerned with the group she saw in front of her. She was more afraid of the idea that there could be more waiting to pop out. She could feel her heart pumping and she gripped hard on the daggers in her hands. One of them, a Fangpyre, rushed right at her. She took a stance and was ready for him. What she wasn't ready for was the sound of tires screeching and the suddenness of a large vehicle speeding right in front of her.
The black roadster smacked the Fangpyre right in his side. He almost looked like he was broken in half over the hood of it before it sent him flying down the street. The red serpentine bounced and skidded across the ground, no doubt gaining some form of road rash with some of his scales having been chipped apart. He finally stopped, lying on the ground motionless. No sound came from him other than a gentle wheeze with his chest raising and lowering. Almost anyone wouldn't doubt the fact that he could have broken bones, maybe a rib poking in the wrong spot and making him wheeze. Then there was nothing. More than likely, he had passed out from the extreme pain. If not, well... Sam couldn't help but almost feel bad for him. Almost. The top of the vehicle opened and out popped a familiar form. Sam almost couldn't help the giddiness at seeing him again, but that feeling was shoved aside when the commanding serpentine hissed to the others. They all nodded and went right for the black ninja and her.
Cole allowed his Spinjitzu vehicle to form back into his Golden Weapon, causing a bright flash that blinded a few unexpecting Serpentine. Those snakes stumbled on their feet and tried to make a swing at whatever they could, but unfortunately, their visions were blurry and unfocused. Cole spotted his shinobi brothers by their spinjitzu tornadoes and spinning right into the snakes, knocking plenty of them a couple of feet back. His steel-colored eyes looked over to the brunette who had knocked an anthropomorphic snake in his chest with a swing, causing him to wheeze and bend over, holding himself right where the diaphragm would be. She proceeded by grabbing the snake's hand and rolling herself across his back, landing on her feet next to the snake, who now fell on his knees, confused and still trying to catch his breath.
The earth ninja was almost flabbergasted.
'Did she seriously just use him to perform an across-the-back roll?' The fact he immediately recognized that almost made him let out a sharp, amused chuff underneath his mask.
His eyes were immediately focused on a scaly arm that lunged past him. He grabbed that arm and quickly threw that reptilian over his shoulder, feeling the body briefly press against the sharp pauldrons. The serpentine fell to the ground as well alongside others. Speaking of the other Serpentine, there was a loud call from the commanding serpent. Something in their language that none of the Ninja could understand at all. By the looks of the snakes pulling back, they had to guess it was something about retreating.
Serpentine bodies were scattered all around. Some were unconscious and others not moving, especially considering Kai holding a bloody sword. The golden sword began heating up for a brief moment in the red shinobi's hold, boiling and sizzling the blood off it before it got a chance to dry. The Japanese man stared at his blade with his dark cyan-blue eyes before it cooled back down to a manageable point so he could put it in the scabbard on his back. He looked over to Cole, who had pulled the zukin and fukumen off his head while he went over to the girl. Well, at least Kai can conclude that Jay and Cole didn't make her up and were messing with him.
'Now... answers.' Cole urged himself to go to the brunette who was panting from exhaustion.
He should have asked how long the fight went on before he arrived but he really needed answers for the other questions running through his head. Sam finally composed herself, dusting herself off. The long-haired brunette finally looked over at him. He looked like he was going to ask something. However, it looked like fate had other plans.
The Hypnobrai that started the fight, Slithraa, finally got himself out of the pile of rock, asphalt and dirt that was accumulated by the Master of Earth. His eyes focused back on the bow and he was more determined to get it out of the human's hands.
'How dare she hold it as if it's her own.' He thought and charged at them, grabbing a short blade that belonged to another Serpentine warrior from the ground. He let loose a low hiss and made a swing at the Earth Ninja who was more or less paying attention to the brunette. He had to get him out of the way. He needed to get the bow from her.
Sam saw him coming up and didn't get time to tell Cole anything. Instead, she went with her instincts, shoving the Earth Ninja aside. He yelled a quick "Hey" at her, but that was shut out by the sudden pain she felt across her abdomen. She wanted to let out a scream of pain but all of her air was caught in her throat. It burned like nothing else before and she nearly doubled over and dropped on her knees for a moment. Of course, in that moment the Hypnobrai dropped the dagger and he shot his hands right at the bow. He pulled it right out of her other hand, which had loosened its grip, and shoved her back with his now much shorter tail. The Hypnobrai turned and ran with the bow in his hands, evading the other Ninja by jumping into the sewers and letting the lid spin and clank close back on the manhole.
Sam looked over to Cole who looked more shocked than anything at all that transpired in just a few moments. With the exhaustion of wandering over a few days and fighting mixing in with the sudden pain blaring red hot, Cole's shocked expression was the last thing she saw before she felt herself finally drop.
He caught her before she dropped to the ground. He felt something warm through his tekoh, and pulled his hand away, examining his glove. There was red against his black glove, smearing and making the glove darker.
'Merda!' He thought to himself and sent his hand right back to the spot on her abdomen she was bleeding from, putting pressure on it before she did lose anymore. He had no idea how deep the stab was but it was urgent anyhow and they needed to get her to medical attention immediately before it could get worse.
"Guys! We've got wounded!"
EDIT: Again, the chapter names do be obvious about what happens, but it just be like that sometimes and that's fine.
Author's Note: Sorry there's not much action. It's been a bit since I actually wrote a fight and all that, especially since most action sequences I've written were all in my TMNT fic and that was me trying to capture the entire essence of an episode. It's why it takes a bit in my TMNT fic.
Now, this is not that. I have no episode or comic to fall back on as a template. I only have a paragraph if not a sentence that's just an idea of what I want. I at least can type it out in parts and even get the next chapter started, but it'll still take a bit.
Oh and before there's any confusion I'm trying to use more accurate terms, like this
* shozoku - the name given to what we believe is ninja clothing
* zukin - the hood covering the head
* fukumen - the mask covering the face
* tekoh- the name of the ninja gloves
And then there's the language bits that I try to slip in here and there like I've always headcanoned Cole as Italian and Kai being Japanese. It started with VelvetPersona way back when I was a baby writer, (her writing still holds up to this day just *chef's kiss*) but then it just stuck with me which you know, I don't mind it. I kinda like it.
* Merda (Italian) - Shit.
Anyway, aside from all that, I'm happy this got to be made. I hope you guys like it and if you did, please join in following this fic and leave a review. I'll probably upload one more time this year around the holidays. If not, I'll definitely update around New Year's.
Again, I hope you guys like it and I'll see you next time.
