The scene opens on the streets of Hell, specifically in Imp City. Doors and windows are boarded up, manhole covers are bolted closed, and a majority of demons were inside… except for the terrified 10-year old Lincoln, who was still scruffed and beaten after his encounter with Stella. He was running for his life, desperately trying to find a hiding spot.
Lincoln: *panting as he runs* Gotta hide, gotta hide, gotta hide!
He suddenly trips and falls to the ground with a pained whimper. He frantically looks up and sees the clock getting closer and closer to striking midnight. The Extermination was going to begin in one minute!
Suddenly, Millie smashes her head through the boarded up window, startling Lincoln.
Millie: The Heaven are you doin' out here?! This ain't no time to be out and about!
She grabs Lincoln by the shirt and yanks him inside with a yelp. Cut to inside as Millie re-boards the window shut at a rapid pace. When that's done, Millie tosses the hammer out of the room and turns to Lincoln.
Millie: *sternly* What in the name of fuck were you doing out there?! The Extermination is about to begin!
Lincoln: *slightly shaken* I-I had nowhere to go… Th-The last place I was at, I-I… I got th-thrown out…
Millie's stern look softens to one of concern. Before she could say anything, the Extermination siren began to play.
Millie: Ah, shit. *grabs Lincoln and lifts him up over her head* Come on, follow me.
She carries Lincoln out of the room. Cut to a dark basement as the light comes on and Millie walks down the stairs with Lincoln held up. She tosses him onto the couch and heads over to the windows, double-checking they're boarded shut. Just then, a whimper is heard as Millie looks back. Her eyes widen as she sees Lincoln, with his fur standing up and his tail frizzed out, having a panic attack.
Millie: Kid?! *rushes to his side and grabs his shoulders* Kid, what's wrong?!
Lincoln: *panting and whimpering* Please… please… stop the screaming…!
Millie was worried to see this sort of reaction, so she did the only thing she could think of: she pulled Lincoln in a hug as he continued whimpering and crying. After some time, Lincoln slowly began to calm down, tears still running down his face. Millie gently pets his head.
Millie: You okay, lil' pup?
Lincoln: *sniffles* N-No… I-I can't stop… thinking about my parents…
Millie: *concerned* Your parents? *pieces everything together in surprise, then looks solemnly* You… lost em' in the Extermination, didn't you?
Lincoln sadly nods, prompting Millie to gently hug him as he rests her head against her shoulder.
Millie: Look, lil' pup… I know I just met ya, but I'm more than willin' to let you hide out here with me…
Lincoln: *sniffles* You… you promise?
Millie smiles and nods as she gently ruffles his hair, causing the young Hellhound to calm down slightly.
Millie: I'm Mildred, by the way. But most people just call me Millie.
Lincoln: *wipes his tears* I'm L-Lincoln…
Fade to Lincoln and Millie playing Blood and Bones (Hell's version of Chutes and Ladders) to pass the time. Lincoln ends up winning, making Millie smile.
Fade to them now watching TV while drinking soda. Lincoln sips his soda, then lets out a burp. Millie looks at him in surprise as he looks away in embarrassment. Millie smirks and drinks her soda, then lets out a louder burp that startles Lincoln. After a few seconds, the two burst out laughing.
Fade to a dart board as a knife is thrown into it, hitting just outside the bullseye. Cut to Millie as she hands a knife to Lincoln. He steps up, then throws the knife. The knife bounces off the wall, then starts bouncing all over the place as Lincoln and Millie get down, covering their heads with their hands. After another few seconds, the knife stabs into the bullseye of the target. Lincoln and Millie both stare in surprise, then look at each other. Millie smiles as she ruffles Lincoln's hair, making him smile as his tail wags.
Pan to a clock nearby as it shows the time going from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Cut to Lincoln sleeping on the couch. Millie throws a blanket onto him, covering him and tucking him in. She smiles and gently pats Lincoln's head, then kisses his forehead. In his sleep, Lincoln lets out a smile of comfort.
Fade to a few hours later, specifically 11:59 PM. Lincoln's eyes twitch as he wakes up, rubbing his eyes. He looks over and notices Millie ripping some of the wooden boards off the window leading to outside.
Lincoln: Ms. Millie…? *Millie glances back and smiles at him as he sits up* Is the Extermination over…?
Millie: Just about. I'm just ripping the boards off to see the fireworks. Wanna watch?
Lincoln walks up next to Millie and looks out the window. Cut to a clock tower with "NEXT CLEANSE 000 DAYS" below the clock itself. The clock then strikes midnight as the numbers change to 365. Pan back to show Charlie Morningstar on a balcony as she raises her hand up, then fires small blasts into the air. After a few seconds, they burst into fireworks that light up the skies of Hell.
Zoom out from the fireworks to show Lincoln and Millie from behind. Cut to a front shot as Millie watches with a smile as Lincoln stares in amazement, his tail wagging at the sight.
Millie: *smiling* It's amazin', ain't it?
Lincoln: *amazed* Yeah…
Millie smiles and gently ruffles his hair, making Lincoln smile as his tail wags faster.
Cut to the streets of Hell moments after the fireworks ended. Outside Millie's house, the wooden boards covering the windows are broken into splinters, some of which stab into a passing demon's face, making them fall to the floor.
Inside the house, Millie and Lincoln are seen throwing the broken wood into a pile.
Millie: *smiles* Thanks for helpin' me with the wood, Linc.
Lincoln: You're welcome, Miss Millie. *drops the last piece of wood* And… thank you for taking me in.
Millie: *smiles as she gently ruffles his hair* You're welcome, pup.
Lincoln: Well… I guess I'll see you around. *starts to walk towards the door*
Millie: *confused* What?
Lincoln: *stops at the door* Well, you probably want me out of your hair now that the Extermination's over. *reaches for the door and starts to open it* So-
Millie: *blitzes over and slams the door shut* No fucking way! I am NOT lettin' ya go back to living on the streets!
Lincoln: *startled* Wha…?
Millie: *picks Lincoln up easily, despite being the same size as him* Linc, the streets of Hell ain't no place for a little pup like you to be living on! You're living with me and that's final.
Lincoln was left stunned by this, but his tail started to wag as he smiled, before hugging Millie tightly. She smiles and returns the hug as a piano is heard beginning to play.
Female Singer: If you're feeling down or weak
You can always count on me
I will always pick you up
Fade to show Millie leading Lincoln to the spare room in her house, which she's set up as a bedroom for him.
Female Singer: Nothing's ever gonna change
Nothing's getting in my way
I will always hold you up
Lincoln smiles as he looks around the room, then faces Millie and hugs her.
Female Singer: Anything
Come what may
Don't look back, forget yesterday
Forget yesterday
Millie smiles as she then grabs Lincoln's arm and drags him out the room.
Female Singer: It's not where you come from
It's where you belong
Nothing I would trade
I wouldn't have it any other way
Cut to show Millie and Lincoln at a mall, the former trying on some clothes. Millie shakes her head at the first few outfits.
Female Singer: You're surrounded
By love and you're wanted
So never feel alone
You are home with me
Lincoln is now wearing an outfit somewhat similar to his present day outfit, which Millie gives a thumbs up to.
Female Singer: Right where you belong
Fade to show them now at Loo Loo Land, with Millie leading Lincoln to the Lawsuit rollercoaster. Lincoln is looking nervous, but puts on a brave face.
Female Singer: I know sometimes you're feeling lost
It's hard to find your place in it all
But you don't have to fear
Cut to the aftermath of the rollercoaster as Lincoln sits on a bench, looking woozy as Millie comforts him in concern, even holding up a bucket for him with her tail.
Female Singer: Even when you mess up
You always got my love
I'm always right here
Oh, 'cause
Despite feeling crappy, Lincoln gives a slight smile and thumbs up, making Millie softly smile.
Female Singer: Anything
Come what may
Don't look back forget yesterday
Forget yesterday (ay)
Zoom over to them now running to a photo booth, going in and shutting the curtain behind them.
Female Singer: It's not where you come from
It's where you belong
Nothing I would trade
I wouldn't have it any other way
Some camera flashes change the screen to show the photos they took: one where they made silly faces, one where they were laughing, one where they had their backs to each other with their arms crossed and smug smirks, and finally one where they are smiling at the camera.
Female Singer: You're surrounded
By love and you're wanted
So never feel alone
You are home with me
Zoom out to show some of the photos they took now lining the walls of Millie's apartment, including some other photos from moments they shared. Millie's silhouette walks past the screen.
Female Singer: Right where you belong
Millie is seen walking up to the now 11-year old Lincoln (who is now an inch or two taller than Millie even with her horns) with an envelope behind her back while he eats.
Millie: Hey, lil' pup!
Female Singer: Ooh ooh (ooh)
Ooh ooh (ooh)
Don't matter where you've been
Lincoln: *looks up* Hey, Mo- er, Millie. What's up?
Millie: *giddy* I gotcha something!
Female Singer: Ooh ooh (ooh)
Ooh ooh (ooh)
You're here for a reason
She hands him the envelope she hit behind her back.
Millie: Think of it like a late birthday present.
Curious, he uses his claws to tear it open.
Female Singer: Ooh ooh (ooh)
No
He pulls out a sheet of paper and reads it over, with the audience not seeing what it is as Millie's smile gets bigger. Lincoln's eyes begin to widen as he realizes what he's holding.
Female Singer: It's not where you come from
It's where you belong
Nothing I would trade
I wouldn't have it any other way
Lincoln's eyes start to glisten with tears as he lowers the paper and looks at Millie. He stands up as he approaches Millie, but then collapses to his knees as he hugs her.
Female Singer: You're surrounded
By love and you're wanted
So never feel alone
You are home with me
Millie softly smiles as she hears Lincoln's quiet sobbing while also seeing his tail wagging as she returns the hug, softly petting him on the head.
Female Singer: Right where you belong
The shot pans down to show the paper Lincoln had been given was an adoption paper Millie filled out, thus making her his legal guardian and mother.
Lincoln: *off-screen* Thank you… Mom…
Millie: *off-screen* You're welcome, sweetie.
