A/N Because of Rowena's tender and sensitive heart, the less nice diesels, like Diesel 10, bother her.
Rowena went along the line singing to her coaches. She saw her friend Chris and blew her horn in greeting. He whistled hello and they went on with their jobs.
Rowena got to her destination and there was Diesel 10.
"Go back to the Mainland, you worthless little killer engine!" Diesel 10 said.
Rowena wanted to flee, but had to wait until her train was unloaded. The feeling passed and then she began to cry, wailing her iron heart out. WAAAAAAAAAAAH! Huge tears poured from her eyes and she kept sniffling.
"Cry-engine!" said Diesel 10.
"Dr-Dry m-my t-tears. Dr-Driver. I-I h-hurt i-in m-my h-heart," Rowena sobbed.
Rowena's driver went to comfort her. "There, there, Rowena," he said, taking a cloth from his pocket to dry her tears. "Let it all out. You've got me to wipe the tears from your eyes whenever I'm here and your heart hurts so you've got to cry." He rubbed her cheeks and wiped her streaming eyes.
Rowena cried more. "D-Diesel 10 i-is a-a b-big, h-horrid e-engine. H-He's dr-dreadfully m-mean t-to m-me e-every ch-chance h-he g-gets." she said, barely able to speak. She sniffled again, hard, coughed as she choked on her wailing sobs and hiccupped. She gasped and gulped, shaking as the tears poured from her eyes not once stopping and let her driver comfort her.
He said, as he continued to wipe her tears away, "Just cry. I shall dry your eyes and comfort you until you feel better." He pressed the cloth to her eyes and wiped all her tears away as best he could, as she sobbed into it.
Rowena wailed endlessly, until her tears slowed to a stop, no more left to shed. Her driver dried her last tears away, patting the huge water droplets from her cheeks and dapping the tears in her eyes away until they were dry, then went back to the cab with the sodden cloth. She smiled, feeling better as he refilled her radiator, though her face was red and her eyes were flame-red, sore and swollen from her cry, then was back on the rails singing again.
Her next job was working with her friend Julie, as they were the only engines available for a special train. Julie needed a back engine, so Rowena was coupled to Julie's train and they set off to their destination, then went their own ways for the rest of the day.
At the sheds, Rowena told her friends about Rachel, a little steam engine from her old railway, saying "I say, "Dry my tears, Driver." because of Rachel, an engine I met on my home railway who was about to be scrapped. She was an extremely sensitive engine, but her first driver was quite unemotional and wouldn't wipe her tears until she rusted. Her first fireman didn't know what to do about her emotions. Her unemotional driver and fireman weren't cruel, exactly, but her driver just didn't understand emotional expression and her fireman was just very logical, not the best at understanding someone's emotions. But she was friendly, creative, easily overwhelmed with emotion and thoughtful. She told me, when I visited her at the scrapyard and cried while with her, her 2nd driver was different, though, someone loving, affectionate, sensitive and wanting to cheer others up. Her first driver just ignored her tears, thinking she'd stop crying faster if ignored. He got a cloth for her after she rusted due to a great many unwiped tears. She was passionate and accepted her emotions, someone who enjoyed plunging into them. She faced her grief head-on, she told me, when she had it. She was the last of her class to die, so she had no will to live when she was at that scrapyard anyway, just wanted to go to The Big Railway In the Sky. She told me she, like all her siblings, believed in it, so I believe as well. Just in case, so I get to see Rachel again."
After talking to her friends, Rowena went to sleep.
A/N Rowena's what my FanFiction buddy calls a baby engine, so she cries like a baby. Mentally, she's a very young child, like the British girl book character I named her after. Sometimes, I use a name from a fic I read or name a character after a real person, but other times, I use a British character name and next month, I'll use a list of old British baby names.
