Author's Note: Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth for a while. I could give a tragic excuse like "I was captured by evil baboons and held for ransom," but the truth is, I was just severely uninspired. I didn't even have writers block, I know the rest of the story but my laziness and the excuse of school work got the better of me. Funny thing is, I didn't even do my school work so it's not like I can even blame it on that. I'm being so honest on the internet... it's unnecessary... oh well.
I also apologize for this chapter being so short, but I have my reasons. Those reasons will be explained at the end, so read through the chapter to find out ;)
Clearly flustered by the Feds surrounding the building, Jorgen hastily made his way to Neal and yanked him up by his arm. "After this little goodbye, it'll all be smooth sailing," Jorgen said with a twisted smile. Neal winced as his still-recovering body was jerked around, but he complied the best he could as his old friend half dragged, half carried him up the stairs and out onto the balcony. The opening of the door came with an outbreak of sun causing Neal to squint. The refreshing yet foreboding wind from the helicopter whipped at his face. All he could do now was stall.
"Jorgen, you don't want to do this. I'm not the same Mikhail you knew, I won't fit in with your current occupation," Neal tried playing his cards discretely. If he could just con Jorgen for long enough…
"You know Mikhail, after my wife and son died, I used to pray that they would come back to me. After a while I began to lose hope; I came to some kind of acceptance cloaked in depression. And then you came along as if an answer to my prayers! I finally got my son back and it was good; we did great things together. It could be like those times again," he said with a hopeful gleam in his eyes. By now Jorgen had brought Neal to the gates of escape; Neal was minutes away from slipping through Peter's fingers.
At this point Neal began yelling in order to be heard over the copter's deafening roar, although saying his anger wasn't manifested in the tone of his voice would be a lie. "You greave over losing you family, yet when you killed that security guard you took his family away from him! You left his wife widowed and his daughter without a daddy! I'm not the same Mikhail and you're not the same Jorgen that Mikhail knew; you're a cold blooded killer, a shell of a man devoid of soul! That's why you can't pick up the pieces anymore."
"I had to kill that man to save you! I wasn't going to watch helplessly as your life was taken just as my wife and son's!"
"You're smart; you knew how to read people, you were a conman for goodness sake! Don't tell me you couldn't tell that man held an empty threat! Did you really think he had the resolve to bargain with a child's life?! He wasn't heartless, but that day you lost your heart."
Jorgen's frustration built inside of him and he tossed Neal's light frame into the helicopter. Neal let out a gasp on impact with the interior of the copter and was then forced over as Jorgen climbed in after him.
Young Neal could see the ground running away from the two of them, but like a streak of sun shining through a mass of stormy clouds, Special Agent Burke flung open the door to the rooftop. With guns raised the agents advanced on the helicopter in mid ascension. "Jorgen Kamychzk, bring down the helicopter and release Neal Caffrey!" the voice of agent Burke roared over the beat of blades.
The next couple of seconds happened in a flash, but to Peter it seemed like slow motion; he could almost feel his hairs turning grey. With little warning, Neal pushed past Jorgen with a determined force and catapulted himself out of the helicopter approximately ten feet in the air. He landed solid with his feet first and his knees buckled dropping him to all fours. The rest of the agents swarmed beneath the helicopter in an attempt to bring it down, but not Peter. Like a father, he rushed to his kid's side in a heartbeat.
"Are you crazy?!" Peter said with exasperation. The sounds around them faded into the background as Neal grinned wildly at the older man. "That's twice in less than two weeks that you've jumped out of a moving vehicle of some sort!"
"Hey I'm a reckless kid, what do you expect?" Neal breathed heavily as he tried to fight the pain and regain his composure.
"I expect a little more grace from a conman! More smooth talking and less dangerous action." Peter helped Neal to a stand but kept a firm hold of him even after he seemed as if he could stand on his own.
In the meanwhile, Jorgen's pilot caved after the FBI fired a few warning shots and he lowered the copter rather than risk an explosion due to a bullet hitting the fuel tank. After all, he was more of a business pilot rather than a mob getaway pilot. Much to Jorgen's protests, the sensible man landed allowing the agents to detain Jorgen.
"I found your helicopter message," Peter sighed.
"I knew you would," Neal replied with his poster-child smile.
Peter could no longer resist, he gave into temptation and pulled Neal into a tight hug. All he could think about was how reckless Neal was and that he must be the luckiest young man in the world. At first Neal's body stayed limp and unsure of how to respond, but eventually he eased in to the stronger man and returned the hug.
"Now come on, I've got a frantic wife at home that's dying to see her baby." Peter said as he released the boy and flashed him a relieved smile. "Oh and by the way, you're on house arrest," he added smugly.
Neal gave a little groan and showed disdain; however, he wasn't bummed at all to be grounded to the Burke's house. How could he be punished by having a man and woman he loved take care of him? It was more of a reward to be cared for so much that Peter felt the need to ground him. Maybe being smothered and protected this time around wasn't such a bad thing.
Smiling, bright blue eyes cast one more gaze towards Jorgen being led into the open rooftop door. Neal bid him a telepathic goodbye, not only to Jorgen, but to Mikhail and Sly Cooper. Just as he had once closed the chapter on Danny Brooks' life, now Mikhail's life had to come to an end as well.
An hour later and the Burke-Caffrey family was reunited and Neal was safe in Elizabeth's arms. It seemed to be a happy ending all around; but then again, it depends where you stop the story.
So obviously that brings closure to the Jorgen/ Sly Cooper plot, but as stated in my summary, I have one more plot to write. This chapter is short because I didn't want to begin the next segment since I left such a horrible cliff hanger at the last chapter and then took for ever to upload. Hopefully you will keep an eye out for the next update because as hinted in the summary, I'm going to bring Neal's mom in and then everything's going to be filled with angst and hurt/comfort along with parental Peter and El; because you can't have one without the other.
