To all my readers-This is the first time that I'm going to do Yugioh without making any character name changes. I want you all to know that my OC Paige Muto is related to Yugi and her looks are based on him. So, think of Paige as a feminine Yugi and Atem. Before anyone asks, yes, I will be doing all 5 seasons of Yugioh and that includes Capsule monsters as well. I was once asked if Paige would be dueling and yes, she will. You wont be able to see her duel until season 2 when Kaiba starts his Battle City Tournament.
If anyone, and I mean anyone tries to rush me while writing this fanfic or any of my other fanfics, all written chapters will be delayed for a week. No exceptions. Leave a positive review and Happy Reading!
I DONT OWN YUGIOH AT ALL! I ONLY OWN THE OC AND HER DUELING DECK!
Shoutouts:
"Mokuba! Mokuba!" shouted Yugi as he and the others were looking for him in the forest.
"This is no time to be playing hide and seek, kid." said Joey.
"Those thugs must have snatched him back to Pegasus' castle." said Tristan.
"So now they've got your grandpa and Kaiba's little brother, too?" asked Tea.
"Looks that way." said Joey.
"I wouldn't want to be captured by Pegasus anyway." said Paige. "He's so creepy."
"Who wouldn't." said Yugi. "It's just another reason for us to win those 10-star chips and get in there."
"No doubt." said Joey in agreement, then looks down to see cards on the ground. "Huh? It's my lucky day."
"Hands off! Those are mine." said Tristan as Joey makes a grab for them.
"Cool, Tristan. I didn't know you were training to become a duelist." said Yugi.
"Neither did I." said Paige.
"Yeah. Well, I figure if a doofus like Joey can hold his own in this game, then hey, I'll probably be an expert at it." said Tristan, swiping a card that was in Joey's hand.
"Whoa, I recognize this monster." said Joey as he picks up a monster card.
"Haven't I seen that card in your deck, Joey?" asked Yugi.
"Not this one, but I think I got somethin' just like it." said Joey and whips out his deck, rummaging through it until he stops at the card he was looking for. "Bingo! Swamp Battle Guard. Well, would you look at this? These two look like they're long-lost brothers. Of course, that doesn't mean your boy packs the same kind of wallop mine does."
"His wallop is just fine!" said Tristan. "My Lava Battleguard has never let me down. Try him out. You'll see."
"Thanks. It does say they work best together." said Joey.
"You know what?" asked Tea. "I think I kinda see a resemblance between you two and those muscle heads."
"So do I." said Paige, causing Yugi to giggle as Tristan and Joey growled at them.
"Laugh it up." said Joey. "I take that as a compliment."
"Sure you do, Joey." said Paige. As the sun was setting, a duel was in progress.
"It's your move, Mai." said the young duelist.
"Oh, harpies? Give that monster our kind of makeover. Attack." she said and her harpies destroyed his monster that was on the field. "Wow. That was a real challenge. It ranks right up there with doing my nails."
"But I was ranked 4th in my district finals." said the duelist.
"(Yawns) Yeah, yeah. That's great, hon." said Mai, boredom in her voice. She then looks out into the ocean and watches the sun setting. "I don't get it. Trashing hotshot duelists is usually as fun as a fall clearance sale. Why can't I enjoy it anymore?" Mai asked herself when suddenly the thought of Joey came to her. "Grr! It's all because of that obnoxious puck Joey! I can't believe such an amateur beat me. I've got to get even with that grinning gutter punk."
Just then, Mai hears someone behind her. "Huh?"
"It's me, Rex Raptor, the dino duelist!" exclaimed Rex. "And I'm itchin' to finish that match we started on the boat."
[Flashback]
"Ah!" shouted Rex as Mai pushes him out of his room.
"Bon Voyage, loser." said Mai.
[Flashback ends]
"Funny. I thought I already knocked you on your Jurassic butt." said Mai.
"Think whatever you want. You're about to get stomped." said Rex.
"You think I'm gonna waste another minute with a pea-brain like you?" Mai asked him. "Beat it, dino-breath. Shoo! Shoo!"
"Grrr! Pea-brain?" said Rex. "I happened to have been a finalist in this year's regional championship. And I'll have you know that I've already won 5-star chips."
Mai starts whistling as she shows him the star chips she has. "Wow! How'd you get 8-star chips already?" asked Rex.
"From wannabes like you who think that by dueling a chick they'll score easy stars." Mai said to Rex. "I only lost once, but once I find that punk Joey, it's payback."
"Joey Wheeler? How could you lose to him?"
"I'd love to see you try and…wait." said Mai. "Okay, Rex, I'll duel you, if you do something for me first."
"Wow, after all the crazy duelists we've been running into, it's nice to see some normal kids for a change." said Tea.
"You said it." said Paige.
"Yeah. How about it, tough guy?" Tristan asked Joey. "Any of these tykes puny enough for you to take on, or do you wanna go lookin' for some 3-year-olds?"
"Come on, be nice." said Tea. "You know Joey's bidding his time until he finds a dueling monkey to challenge."
"Ha ha! A dueling monkey! Nice one." said Tristan.
"Who wants some?" Joey angrily asked them. "Just one more word about dueling monkeys and I'm gonna…"
"Huh? What?" Laughter was heard behind Joey.
"Ugh. Tell me that's not who I think it is?" asked Joey.
"Want to turn around and see or you want me to help you?" asked Paige.
"How are you, Joseph? Glad to see me?" asked Mai as Joey turns around.
"Ecstatic." said Joey.
"So, Joey, is Yugi still fighting all your battles for you?" taunted Mai. "Everyone knows if Yugi wasn't there to hold your hand, you wouldn't have beat me. Isn't that right, Yugi?"
"That's not true." said Yugi.
"Oh really?" asked Mai. "Then I propose he steps out of your shadow here and now. If Joey thinks he's so tough, let's see him play for himself."
"What a sore loser." Paige whispered to Yugi. "I never seen someone this competitive since Grandpa and you know how he is."
"Yeah." said Yugi.
"I'm waiting for your answer, Joey." demanded Mai. "Think you have the guts to step up and face the duelist I've arranged for you?"
"It's not you?" asked Joey, causing Mai to laugh.
"I'm dueling on Mai's behalf. Recognize me?" said Rex as he steps out from behind a tree.
"Oh my god. Not again." said Paige as she slaps herself in the face.
"That's Rex Raptor." said Yugi.
"This twerp's supposed to scare me or somethin'?" asked Joey. "I betcha he aint so tough."
"Don't you remember, Joey? Rex placed second in the regionals." reminded Tea.
"Well, Joey, you gotta ask mommy's permission or what?" asked Mai.
"No way! This is my fight." said Joey.
"Joey!" said Tea and Tristan.
"What are you trying to prove?" asked Tea.
"Really, bro. Pick your battles." said Tristan.
"I can't believe Mai agreed to duel me just for stomping this amateurous-rex." thought Rex.
"Joey had Yugi's help when he beat me, so havin Rex do all my dirty work is the perfect revenge." thought Mai. "Oh, and by the way…"
"Hmm?" said Tea and Paige.
"If little Yugi does any of his backseat dueling, then Joey is disqualified, and the match automatically goes to Rex." said Mai.
"Huh?"
"What do you say, Joey?" asked Mai. "This is your big chance to prove yourself, or are you gonna back out?"
"Of course he is. We all…" Tea started to say when Joey cut her off.
"No! That's the way I want it…just me and him." said Joey.
"You sure about that?" asked Paige as the other gasped.
"Yeah. It may cost me all my star chips, but I don't deserve to keep 'em of the only reason I'm winnin' is 'cause of Yugi's smarts." explained Joey. "All my life, people are tryin' to help me 'cause they think I can't help myself. Well, I don't need to be babied this time."
"You lost it, Joey." said Tristan. "You can believe whatever you want, but I won't just stand here and watch you throw your chips away. I hope you guys don't mind, but Joey won't be comin' out to duel today. Maybe once he grows up, we can arrange a play date."
"That's it." said Joey.
"Unh!" said Tristan and everyone gasped as Joey shoved him. "Ooh! Hey, whadja shove me for?"
"Didn't you hear what I just said, wise guy?" asked Joey. "I'm tired of everyone thinkin' they gotta come to my rescue."
"That's not how it is." said Yugi. "Friends look out for each other…"
"Keep outta this, Yuge." said Joey. "Just lemme do what I gotta do."
"Great idea." said Tristan. "Do whatcha gotta do, even if it means losing the chance to help your sister."
"Serenity." thought Joey. "Don't worry, sis. I'll make you proud."
"Listen. Let's just cool off a sec and…" Tea said but got cut off.
"Forget it. If Mr. Macho wants to lose, he can do it by himself." said Tristan.
"But Tristan!" shouted Yugi as Tristan started walking off.
"Let him go." said Joey.
"Ah, some trouble in paradise?" asked Rex, smirking at them.
"Stay out of this!" Tea tells him as Joey stops her from saying more. "Huh?"
"So, what's it going to be? You gonna run off with your friend or start acting like a real duelist?" Mai asked smugly.
"I'm still here, aint I?" asked Joey. "Yugi, no offense, but I want you to keep outta this one."
Yugi sighed as he understood what Joey was telling him. "Don't worry, Yugi, I got this." said Paige.
"All right, then its dino feeding time!" said Rex as the ground shakes and a dueling arena appears behind him.
"We believe in you, Joey!" shouted Tea. "Just don't forget what you're fighting for!"
"What I'm fightin' for? I got that part down." thought Joey. "It's who I'm fightin' that's making me sweat."
"Rex, don't forget our deal!" Mai shouted from the sidelines. "Beat him, and you get to duel with me."
"I can't believe you reduced yourself to bein' Mai's attack dog." said Joey.
"I believe it." said Paige.
"At least I'm no dueling monkey." said Rex, causing Joey to growl. "Whoa! So, how many chips do you wanna lose to my dinos?"
"I got 2, but I plan on doublin' 'em right here!" said Joey.
"You wish! I bet your deck isn't even prepared for the fields we're playing on." said Rex.
"Man, if only he knew." thought Joey. "I still have a hard time tellin' one field from another, let alone using 'em in any kind of strategic way. My best bet's gonna be hittin' him hard and fast, and I think I know just the cards to do the job: Baby Dragon and Time Wizard. If I use 'em together, I can speed up time and make my dragon super powerful. Hey, it worked once before when I dueled Mai, so here's hopin' it'll do the job again."
"Quit stallin'" said Rex. "Let's duel!"
"Bring it!" said Joey as each side of the field began at 2,000 life points.
"Hmm…" said Yugi as he looks to the side. "Hey, Tea, you and Paige keep rooting Joey on for us. I gotta go see about something."
"Wha? Yugi!" said Tea as he takes off.
"Where's he going?" asked Paige.
"Huh?" said Joey as both the Time Wizard and Baby Dragon were in his hand. "Pay Dirt! I couldn't have asked for a better hand. Huh?"
Joey looks over to see that both Yugi and Paige were gone. "Where'd Yugi go? Oh, well. Wait'll they sees what I did all by myself."
"Baby Dragon…defense mode!" shouted Joey as he places Baby Dragon onto the field.
"Huh?" said Rex, looking at Baby Dragon.
"That's right. It's a baby dragon." thought Joey. "Rex knows he's toast."
"You never leave a baby unattended, and you're about to find out why!" shouted Rex. "Two-headed King Rex…attack!"
A two-headed dino appeared on the field and roared. "Oh…" said Joey, looking at Rex's monster as it destroys Baby Dragon on the field.
"Poor baby." said Rex. "Looks like we found out what he was made of."
"But I didn't get to play my combo." said Joey.
"And do you know why?" Rex asked. "Because even 3-year-olds know better than to defend on their first move. Ha! I can't believe you actually did that, you rookie!"
"Everybody makes mistakes, Joey." Tea called out. "Just try not to make another one."
"(Laughing) You don't get it, do you?" Mai asked. "Little Joey's already made the one fatal mistake that's gonna cost him this entire duel, and that was ever agreeing to this match in the first place."
"Ha! With your Baby Dragon crushed, my 2-headed King Rex can terrorize the field for the rest of this match." said Rex.
"Hey Paige, did you tell me once that you dueled Rex and beat him?" asked Tea.
"Yeah. I crushed him every time too." said Paige. "I hated his 2-headed King Rex."
"I heard that!" shouted Rex.
"You were meant to hear it, Dino-breath! I meant every word of it!" Paige shouted back.
"All right. Maybe I did screw up, but I think I still have one monster in my hand that can beat that thing." said Joey, placing his next monster on the field. "Leogun."
Leogun, a lion monster appeared on the field (ATTK: 1750/DEF: 1550). "Show that over grown iguana who the real king of beasts is!" shouted Joey as Leogun roared.
"Ha Ha Ha! You amateur." said Rex. "Since we're on a wilderness field, my King Rex gets a nice, fat power bonus. Tough luck on your pussycat."
King Rex's attack power rose to 2080. "Field bonus!" shouted Joey, shocked. "Now he tells me!"
"King Rex, Foot Stomp!" shouted Rex, letting his King Rex stomp Leogun. Joey's life points dropped to 1,670.
"Ouch." said Joey.
"The quicker I squash this tenderfoot, the sooner I'll get to have my chance at beating Mai." thought Rex. "Let's go! You're the appetizer! I wanna get on to the main course."
"I still got plenty to serve up." said Joey, then looks at his cards. "That is, if I've finally figured out how to use this field power bonus thing right. Here goes nothing. Axe Raider!"
Axe Raider, a human like monster holding an axe appeared on the field with an increased attack power of 2,210. "Hey, hey! He got the power bonus!" Axe Raider attacks the Two-Headed King Rex, causing Rex's life points to drop to 1,870.
"Don't let it go to your head!" said Rex. "Sword Arm of Dragon! Cut down that Axe Raider to size!"
A dinosaur with a triangle sharp tail appeared on the field, with its attack power of 2275 and roared. "Sword Tail Slash!" shouted Rex, as Sword Arm of Dragon attacks Axe Raider, destroying it. Joey's life points drops to 1,605.
"That's my third monster he's trashed. Even with a field power bonus, I can't beat him." thought Joey.
"Joey!" shouted Tea, getting his attention. "Don't let that Dino-dork intimidate you. Remember, we're all right behind you!"
"I agree with Tea. Show that Dino-dork what it means to be a true duelist!" shouted Paige.
"Yeah, right." thought Joey. "That's why Yugi and Tristan ditched me."
"What a nimrod." said Tristan as he splashes water onto his face and continues to mutter.
"You okay, Tristan?" asked Yugi.
"Yuge?" asked Tristan as he turns around. "What are you doing here? You should be helping Joey."
"Joey made it pretty clear he didn't want my help on this one." said Yugi. "And since you left, I figured maybe I should too."
"Me being there and you and Paige being there are 2 totally different things." said Tristan.
"Paige didn't follow me." said Yugi.
"I can see that." Tristan tells him. "Without your coaching, Joey won't last 2 minutes against that conniving little freakasaurus. I don't care what he says, you gotta go back there and help him out, pronto!"
"I can't do that." said Yugi. "Joey needs to fight this duel on his own, and I gotta let him. Paige even knows this."
"Yugi!" said Tristan, grabbing him by the jacket.
"If I go back on my promise and help Joey, he'll be disqualified." Yugi tells Tristan. "Besides, we've gotta believe in him so he believes in himself."
"Yeah, well…" said Tristan as he lets go of Yugi. "maybe I don't think he can win."
"But, Tristan, this is about something more important than winning or losing." explained Yugi. "This is about Joey learning to be a strong big brother for his little sister. And even though he doesn't need our help, he needs to know he has our support."
"I don't know." said Tristan.
"Maybe this was a mistake." thought Joey. "Maybe the only way to help my sister was relying on my friends. No, that's not true. I can't start thinking that way. If I can't rely on myself, how can I expect my little sister to? Now think. There's gotta be something in this hand that I can play. Uhh! Huh? Wait! I still have this Time Wizard. Too bad I don't have my Baby Dragon to play with it anymore. Oh well, I guess it couldn't hurt to put it out on the field anyway. Here goes nothin'."
"Time Wizard!" said Joey and places the card face down.
"Hmm, that's the card Joey beat me with." thought Mai. "I should warn Rex. Raptor, watch that Time Wizard!"
"Ah, without Yugi's help, this chump doesn't know how to use it." said Rex. "I know Joey's type. He'll try and play a monster next, and then he'll be in for the prehistoric pounding of his life."
"Maybe Rex is right. Joey was able to defeat my Harpy Ladies, but only because Yugi coached him through it." thought Mai. "This time, Joey's all alone."
"I'm playing Rock Ogre in Defense!" shouted Joey.
"You see?" asked Rex, laughing evilly. "I knew the rookie didn't know what he was doing. Megazowler! Wreck that rock old-school style." A triceratops appeared on the field (ATTK: 2340/DEF: 2600).
"Horn Ramming Charge Attack!" shouted Rex and Megazowler charges at Joey's Rock Ogre, destroying it on the field. "Reduced to rubble. I sure sent him back to the stone ages."
"Fine!" shouted Joey. "Go Flame Swordsman!"
A man appeared on the field, carrying a sword in his hands with its attack strength of 2340. "Turn up the heat and crave that dino like it was a big turkey." Joey said.
"Didn't you see what I did to your Rock Ogre?" asked Rex. "Do you really think that your puny little Flame Swordsman will last any longer? Looks like I'm gonna have to teach you respect for my dinos the hard way! Attack!"
"Rex, you big dino-dummy!" shouted Mai.
"Dino-dummy? I'm gonna have to remember that one." said Paige.
"Flaming Sword of Battle!" shouted Joey and the Flame Swordsman's sword became infused with fire.
"Wha?" said Rex as Megazowler still charged at Joey's monster. The Flame Swordsman chops through Megazowler, destroying him on the field, causing Rex's life point to drop to 1,330.
"Tell me, how does a swordsman can beat a dinosaur?" asked a freaked-out Rex.
"I actually won that?" asked Joey.
"There is no way Joey could have known that dinosaur cards are especially vulnerable to fire." said Mai. "That jerk! He totally lucked out on that one."
"Ha ha. Looks like I found the secret to beating your dinos." said Joey. "Hope you're not too sore about it. Get it? Sore? Dino? Dinosaur?"
"Yes, Joey, we get it…we all get it." said Paige.
"Sword Arm of Dragon." said Rex, placing a card in defense mode.
"Want some? Come and get it, buddy!" said Joey as his Flame Swordsman knocked down every dinosaur that Rex threw at him.
"Yay!" shouted Paige and Tea.
"I knew you were going to make a comeback, Joey!" said Tea.
"I knew you had it in you!" said Paige.
"This is far from over, you know." Rex said to Joey. "One card won't win this for you."
"Alrighty, then. I'll just bring out another for you." said Joey. "Swamp Battle Guard!" Soon as Swamp Battle Guard appeared, its attack power rose to 2340.
"Big deal." said Rex. "I have a beast that'll wipe that smirk off your face permanently." He then draws another card and a smirk appears on his face. "All right!" he said, smugly. "Meet the top link of the food chain! Serpent Night Dragon!"
A dark blue dragon with wings appeared on the field with its attack power of 2350. "Huh?" said Joey as he sees the monster.
"This rare card's awarded to the elite few who have made it to the final round of the regional championships." explained Rex. "But for a loser like you, it should be an honor just to get thrashed by it! Nightmare Sonic Blast!"
Suddenly shadows came from the dragon and straight for the Flame Swordsman, destroying him on the field. "He was my best card." said Joey.
"Oh, poor Joey." said Tea.
"Man! There's not a monster in my deck that could save me now." thought Joey as he drew another card. "Huh? Tristan's card. Man, he always shows up somehow."
[Flashback]
It was raining and inside a building, Joey was standing in front of someone. "Hey, this doesn't concern you, Hair-job." said one of the punks.
"Yeah. Didn't no one ever teach you not to mess with other people's business?" asked a second punk.
"Didn't anyone teach you that you shouldn't be picking on defenseless little kids half your size?" asked Joey as the boy he was protecting runs and hides.
"Then how abouts we pick on you instead?" asked the second punk.
"Hey…" said Tristan walks in, soaking wet to the bone as the little kid takes off from his hiding place. "Everything alright, Joey?"
"Huh?"
"Mess 'em both up!" shouted the first punk and all of them started going at it with them.
"Watch that guy!" Tristan tells Joey.
"Let's go!"
By the time, the fight was over, Joey was sitting on the ground next to Tristan. "You ok, Joey? You should have called me." Tristan said to Joey. "I'd have been here earlier, man."
Joey groans as he gets up and slaps Tristan's hand away. "What are you doing here, Tristan?" asked Joey.
"What are you talking about?" Tristan asked, confused.
"I could have taken those guys." said Joey, getting onto his feet. "I appreciate you trying to help me out, but I don't need to be babied."
"Huh?" said Tristan as Joey walks away.
[Flashback ends]
"Man. All this time, and it finally hits me." said Joey. "Tristan's always been looking out for me, not because he thinks I always need his help, but because he's a true friend."
"Yo, Joey!" shouted Tristan.
"Huh? Wha?" said Joey and looks at the sidelines to see Tristan.
"We're here for ya, buddy!" said Tristan. "So how 'bout it? You gonna take that card of mine for a test drive or what?"
"Hey!" said Yugi as Paige hugs her brother.
"You got it, pal!" said Joey. "GOOOOOOO Lava Battle Guard!"
Tristan's Lava Battle Guard roared as it appears on the field. "Cool! My card's on the field!" exclaimed Tristan.
"What a touching reunion!" said Rex. "Too bad my Serpent Night Dragon is gonna blast it to shreds. Now, attack the green one!"
Once Serpent Night Dragon released its attack, it was redirected back towards itself. "What? My Sonic Blasts are being deflected!" shouted Rex. Both he and Joey gasped at what had unfolded as Serpent Night Dragon was destroyed.
"How was my dragon's attack repelled?" asked Rex. "There aren't any trap cards out!"
"Ahh!"
"Yeah!"
"You better look at the field, Rex." said Paige.
"Huh? Oh, I get it." said Tristan, as they see Lava Battle Guard protecting Swamp Battle Guard with its club. "The red one blocked for the green one."
"Tristan's card was there right when I needed it most." said Joey.
"Of course." said Yugi. "Those two monsters are like best friends, so when they're together on the field, they help power each other up, just like how you and Joey help each other out in real life, huh, Tristan?"
"That's what being a buddy is all about." said Tristan.
"Thanks for everything, man." said Joey. "I owe ya."
"What a team. Not only did you take out Rex's monster, but you made a nice dent in his life points, too." said Yugi as Rex's life points drop to 840.
"It's quite a nice dent, if you ask me." said Paige, smirking.
"Right! And now that we're together again…" said Joey.
"There's not a monster Rex has that can stop us." said Tristan.
"Heh heh heh." thought Rex. "Celebrate while you still can, because your party's about to be crashed!"
