To all my readers-This is the first time that I'm going to do Yugioh without making any character name changes. I want you all to know that my OC Paige Muto is related to Yugi and her looks are based on him. So, think of Paige as a feminine Yugi and Atem. Before anyone asks, yes, I will be doing all 5 seasons of Yugioh and that includes Capsule monsters as well. I was once asked if Paige would be dueling and yes, she will. You won't be able to see her duel until season 2 when Kaiba starts his Battle City Tournament.
I've already had my background chapter ready for Seasons 2-5. To the one who has thought that Paige should have Arkana's Dark Magician, I want you to know that you are very lucky that I have that card in my actual deck. I want everyone to know that when I write season 5 (I really do mean when I write it), how I see Atem when he enters the world of his memories, there will be a couple of major surprises. I can't tell you what those surprises will be because they are still in development and I'm bouncing around some ideas with a couple of my friends so that I can make it the best part of season 5.
If anyone, and I mean anyone tries to rush me while writing this fanfic or any of my other fanfics, all written chapters will be delayed for a week. No exceptions. Leave a positive review and Happy Reading!
I DONT OWN YUGIOH AT ALL! I ONLY OWN THE OC AND HER DUELING DECK!
Shoutouts:
Joey, Yugi and Tristan groaned as they tried to push the boulder out of the way. "This thing at budgin', boys and girls." said Joey. "Looks like we're trapped."
"Come on. There's got to be another way out of this place." said Tristan.
"But these tunnels run everywhere." said Tea. "We could be lost down here forever!"
"Forever?" asked Tristan.
"That's it! We need to get out of here, now! Before I really start freaking out." said Paige.
"Paige…." Yugi started saying when suddenly, Bakura's millennium ring points behind him.
"Hmm? Bakura?" asked Tea.
"Hey! Bakura? What gives?" asked Joey as Bakura stops at another tunnel.
"It's seem my Millennium ring is tugging me in this direction." he tells them.
"Huh?"
"Why?" asked Tea and Paige.
"Well, Yugi and I think that my Millennium ring can detect other Millenium items and that it's been honing in on Pegasus's Millennium eye." explained Bakura.
"So it could be leading us right to his castle." said Yugi.
"Pegasus!" said Joey. "I can't wait to get my hands on that creep."
"I bet that he's in his castle, right now, staring out the window or something." said Paige. "I wanna give that creep a piece of my mind for taking Grandpa." Unknown to them, Pegasus was watching the group on a TV screen as they walked through the tunnel, sipping some wine.
"I love this show. Let's see what's playing on Dungeon TV?" said Pegasus, then changes the channel to see Mokuba in a cell, chained to the wall, laughing. "Oh, goody. It's another installment in the sad little saga of Mokuba. Ha ha ha."
"My brother will come for me." Mokuba said, sniffling. "I know he'll come like he always has."
[Flashback]
Kaiba and Mokuba were standing outside a house as leaves were falling around them.
"It's just you and me now, kid, but it will be okay." said young Seto to little Mokuba.
"Like the way he came for me the day mom and dad passed away." he thought to himself.
"I…I'm scared, Seto." said little Mokuba.
"Don't worry." young Seto said to him. "I'll always be there for you, Mokuba. I promise."
[Flashback ends]
"Pegasus thinks that by keeping me locked away, he can take over your company, KaibaCorp, but Pegasus doesn't know you the way I do." thought Mokuba and takes out a picture of his brother.
[Flashback]
In a classroom, Mokuba and Kaiba were playing a game of chess. "How, when we were growing up, you never lost at anything. You'd never gave up. You'd just keep going till you'd beaten everyone."
Mokuba and Kaiba looked up at the person who was taking a picture of them, both were smiling as the picture was taken.
[Flashback ends]
"And you're going to beat Pegasus the same way, so come and rescue me, big brother." thought Mokuba, looking sadly at the picture he wore around his neck of Kaiba.
"Don't worry. I'll always be there for you, Mokuba. I promise." said young Kaiba.
"Come…..soon." Mokuba groaned.
Yugi and the others continued down the tunnel of the cave. "So, we gettin' anywhere, Bakura?" asked Joey.
"It's like we've been walking forever." said Tristan.
"Instead of looking like the way out, it seems like a big maze." Joey added.
"That's right. And look at the walls down here." said Tea, looking at the walls around them. "All the rocks are neatly arranged. It seems man-made."
"That's because it is man-made, Tea." said Paige, taking a closer look at the wall.
"What are you sayin', Paige?" asked Joey.
"If these rocks lead to what I think it leads to, then…" said Paige, looking at her brother.
"We're in the right tunnel for Pegasus' castle." Yugi finished her sentence, causing her to nod.
"Exactly." said Paige.
"You think someone could be livin' down here?" asked Tea.
"You're guess is as good as mine, Tea." Paige tells her.
"They'd have to be mole people." added Joey.
"Look at all these corridors." said Yugi. "There must be a dozen different directions we could go."
"So, now what?" asked Tristan, looking at the corridors. "Which way do we go?"
"This way." said Bakura, looking up from the Millenium ring and takes off. "Follow me. The ring is pulling me this way."
"Well, tell it to pull slower." said Joey.
"Yeah, a couple of us are shorter than the rest of you." said Paige as they turn a corner. Just then, Bakura came to a stop. "Huh?" said Joey, seeing a bright light ahead.
"Bakura, what is it?" asked Yugi, catching up to him. "Why have you stopped?" They gasped as they see the arena in front of them. "What is this place?" asked Tea.
"You have entered…."
"…sacred grounds."
"Where only duelists…"
"…..can be found."
"Yeah, well, we're duelists." said Joey.
"Before you pass…."
"…..across this chamber," Suddenly two duelists appeared, mocking fighting before standing by the arena.
"You must agree…"
"….to face the danger."
"So let the contest…."
"….now begin."
"Notify…"
"….your next of kin."
"You're trapped…."
"….and the doors are all locked."
"Hiya! Hoo-ya! You face the brothers Paradox!" they both said.
"Employed by Pegasus as eliminators…."
"….to take all your star chip indicators."
"I'm just glad that I only have one sister." said Yugi.
"Yeah, otherwise they would have to let mom know what actually happened." said Paige.
"You gotta duel this goons, Yugi?" asked Joey.
"And if by some crazy fluke you manage to win….."
"….why, then, a puzzling new test shall begin."
"For over my shoulder, you see a door. And over my brother's, you'll see…."
"….one door more."
"The test? A choice…"
"….that you must make."
"Which of these doors will you take?" said the Paradox brothers.
"Huh?" said Joey, looking at the dueling arena and sees that there were four dueling spots.
"One door leads to an endless maze…."
"…where you will wander all your days."
"The other door's the path you need."
"Choose correctly and be freed."
"But which door leads out…"
"…and which leads to woe."
"That's for you to guess…."
"….and for the Brothers Paradox to know."
"So even if Yugi wins this match, we could still wind up lost in those caves forever?" asked Tea.
"Against us, one mere duelist would be creamed."
"So you must duel as a team."
"2 on 2?" asked Bakura.
"Like a tag team?" Joey asked.
"I never heard of anyone dueling like that." said Tristan as the Paradox brothers grinned smugly at the group.
"I know I haven't." said Paige.
"Me either, but I don't think we have much of a choice here." said Yugi.
"YU-GI-OH!"
"Tag team it is. And I'd be honored if Joey would duel by my side." said Yugi.
"Hm. You got it, bro." said Joey. Suddenly, Yami feels a pull on his jacket and sees Paige looking up at him.
"I know that face. You're different from me and my brother….aren't you?" asked Paige, her voice no higher than a whisper. He gasped, then nods as she gives him a hug. "You protected us from going into the shadow realm."
"Paige…" Yami started to say
"It's okay." she tells him, then takes a step back. "You're family." Yami then smiles, giving her a nod.
"All right, youse brothers Paradox." said Joey. "Me and Yugi are going to clean your clocks."
"Prepared to be puzzled."
"Prepared to be fooled."
"Prepared to be baffled, for on this field we rule."
"I'm gonna baffle the 2 of them if they don't stop rhyming." said Joey.
"Enough of your quips."
"Yes, time to wager star chips."
Joey growled as he takes out a couple of his star chips from his glove. "I'll thrown down 2." said Joey.
"Plus 4 more, for a total of 6." said Yami.
"Agreed." said the brothers.
"This is it, Joey." said Yami. "If we play our cards right, we'll both have enough star chips to gain entrance into the castle. Then we can finally confront Pegasus."
"Right." said Joey.
"Ha ha ha! You fool! That's why Pegasus pays my brother and me…"
"…to keep you from achieving victory."
"Oka, guys. Team work from here on out." said Tea.
"Right! We'll be the team; you do the work." said Tristan.
"And don't leave us stranded here." said Paige.
"Good luck." said Bakura.
"Quiet, fools. Time to duel." said the brothers.
"Did they just call us fools?" asked Paige.
"First turn honors are mine." said Dox, taking a card out of his hand. "Labyrinth Wall."
"Huh? Why would he play that card?" Yugi thought. "It doesn't even have any attack points."
"What's that?" Bakura asked as Tea and Paige gasps.
"Look, the floor." said Tristan. "Something's coming out of it. Strike that. A whole bunch of things are coming out of it."
"A maze?" asked Yami.
"A huge maze." said Paige.
"Quite right, and unless if you can navigate it correctly, you'll be lost in its passageways forever." said Dox.
"Now, no more questions. No more stalls." said both brothers. "Make your move, the Labyrinth calls."
Out in the forest of the island, Kaiba was on his way to Pegasus' castle. "Soon Pegasus will be sorry for the pain he caused me and my brother." thought Kaiba, then takes out the same necklace that held a picture of Mokuba. "Mokuba. Doesn't he realize that nothing will stop me from getting him back? Well, he'll soon find out."
"Make your move! Go!" said Para.
"Now! Now! Go!" said Dox.
"Hold your horses already." said Joey, annoyed with the brothers. "We don't even know how this tag team thing works."
"It's simple. We all start with 2,000 life points like any duel." said Dox. "However, if just one duelist loses those 2,000 life points, then his team mate loses with him."
"Good thing I'm not dueling right now." said Paige. "That's too much pressure on me and my teammate."
"Yeah. I wouldn't want that kind of pressure." said Tea.
"Man. Yugi's puttin' a lot of faith on me." thought Joey. "I can't let him down."
"The players on each team will take alternate turns with each passing round. It is simple. I will play, then Yugi, then my brother, then Joey, then back to me. Now, as for the actual gameplay in the Labyrinth arena, it, too, is quite simple." Para explained. "All monsters you summon during this match will act like pieces on a game board. As for moving, each monster can move the number of spaces equal to its power level."
A Penguin monster was on the field, flapping its wings and chirped in fear as it sees a monster in front of it. "And while your game pieces are moving, ours will be moving too." Para added. "Finally, if you somehow manage to get past our creatures and find your way through the maze, your reward will be a choice of two doors."
"Hmm." Yugi said to himself.
"Select the correct door, and find the path to freedom and fresh air." said Dox.
"Select the wrong door, and only find despair." said Para.
"Aah!" Joey screamed in frustration. "I've had just about enough of all your lame-brain rhymin'. And what do ya mean, one door leads to despair? That's not fair."
"Ok, then." said the Paradox brothers.
"We'll give you a clue." Para said to Yugi and Joey. "While everything one of us tells you shall be true…."
"….the other will speak nothing but lies to you." added Dox.
"Truths and lies?" Yugi thought to himself. "What are they talking about?"
"Come now, Yugi." Pegasus said, laughing and takes a sip of wine. "It's just a riddle, and you had better solve it. Otherwise, you won't see the light of day or your grandpa ever again!"
"From this point on, one of us will speak nothing but the total truth." said Para.
"And the other will speak everything but the truth." said Dox.
"So, you see, it is quite simple." said Para.
"To learn which of the 2 is the right door…." said Dox.
"…..You have only to ask, nothing more." said Para.
"Wait." said Yugi.
"Hmm?" asked Para, intrigued.
"What if you're lying to me right now?" he asked.
"No, I never lie." Dox said, causing Yugi to really think.
"Don't be fooled." Para said. "My door is most certainly the door that will guarantee you're freed."
"Liar!" said Dox. "Mine is the door that'll grant safe passage, if they only heed."
"Wait a sec. This sounds like an old riddle I know. Sure, the liar, the truth teller, the choosing between 2 directions….but how'd the rest of it go?" thought Joey. "Hey, Yugi, I think I know this riddle. It starts with a fork in the road. Check this out. There's this kid trying to get to the village of truth tellers. Thing is, there's a village of liars right next to it. The kid doesn't know which way to go so he asks a villager for directions. But he doesn't know if this villager's from truthville or liarsberg. So, the villager guy says he'll answer one question, and that's the riddle. What should the kid ask to get to truthville? So the kid asks the guy to take him to his own village. 'Cause a truthful guy would have taken him to the village of truth, on the account of being truthful, and a liar would have to take him to the village of truth, too, 'cause that'd be lyin'. So, first we gotta find out which one of you is tells the truth."
"Then proceed." said Dox.
"In fact, we'll allow you each one question." said Para.
"Ok, kind of like the kid in the riddle asked the guy to show him his village, all I have to do is ask you to show me your door." said Joey, pointing to each brother. "So both of ya, show me the door that your guardin'. Ha! Now the truthful guy'll have to point to his own door, and the liar will have to point to the other guy's door."
Each brother lifts their finger and points to a door. "Bingo!" yelled Joey. "Worked like a charm. Para's the liar, Dox tells the truth. Now Yugi just has to ask Dox which door leads outta here and we're set."
"Hmm, I don't know." thought Yugi. "That seemed a little too easy."
"Yo, Yuge. How about a little somethin' for the effort here?" asked Joey.
"I hate to disappoint you, Joey, but I don't think we've solved this riddle just yet." said Yugi. "In fact, I think we're going down the wrong road ourselves, so to speak."
"But I told ya, Yuge. I heard this one before." said Joey.
"Your riddle has some things in common with our present predicament, but there are some key differences, and trust me, Joey, those key differences change the entire nature of the problem." said Yugi.
"Huh?" said Joey.
"In your riddle, there was only one person to question at the crossroads, but in our situation, we have 2, Para and Dox." Yugi explained. "Now, both Para and Dox have told us the exact same thing. One of them will speak nothing but the truth, and the other will speak nothing but lies. But there's a problem with that already."
Both Para and Dox moaned in frustration, listening to Yugi's explanation. "Because if they were, as they said, one truth teller and one liar, the liar could never admit to it. That would be telling the truth." said Yugi. "The only way they could both make that statement is if they were both lying. And that means we can't trust either Para, Dox, or their riddle."
"Wow. My brain hurts." said Joey.
"You're telling me." muttered Paige.
"Don't worry about it, Joey." he said. "That riddle was meant to throw us off course. Let's duel now, and figure out the door dilemma later."
"Nice call, Yuge." said Joey. "I do all my best problem-solving on the field anyways."
"Now let's win this duel." said Yugi. "I'll have to be careful. I've never played on a labyrinth field before. I'll go first, with my Beaver Warrior."
Yugi sets down Beaver Warrior (ATT: 1,200 /DEF: 1,500), who appears on the field, ready to battle. "A good choice. A rat for a maze." said Para.
"But his time's running out. This is the last of his days." said Dox.
"We'll see about that." said Yugi. "Beaver, forward 4 spaces, one for each of your level points."
Beaver Warrior moves forward as Yugi ordered. "Ha ha ha ha. 4 spaces, and you have already in too far." thought Dox.
"Now it's my turn, and I am merging Shadow Ghoul (ATT: 1,600/ DEF: 1,300) into the Labyrinth wall itself by means of Polymerization." said Para.
"Huh?" gasped Yugi as Shadow Ghoul uses the walls to get around. "What the…." Shadow Ghoul appears over Beaver Warrior, ready to strike.
"Wall Shadow, Reaping Claw Slash!" said Para. Shadow Ghoul slashes Beaver Warrior on the field, causing Yugi and Joey to groan.
"Good bye, Beaver Warrior." said Para.
"Oh, it came out of the wall," said Tea as Shadow Ghoul retreats itself back into the labyrinth wall. "and now it's going back, where our guys can't get at it."
"Now that's just creepy." said Paige as Yugi's life points dropped to 1600.
"Very lethal." said Yugi.
"They're cheatin'!" said Joey, accusing the brothers. "It moved too many spaces!"
"On the contrary." said Para. "The Wall Shadow didn't move any spaces. It moved on the wall."
"That's right, and the wall doesn't have any spaces." said Dox, causing Joey to make a face.
"Joey, stop making that face." said Paige.
"This is not good." thought Yugi. "Our monsters have to count spaces as they walk the maze. While their Wall Shadow can move through the maze walls, and that means he can strike when we least expect it."
"So, now you know our strategy is unleashing a monster that you cannot see." said Para.
"You fools! You won't know when the Wall Shadow is about to land a blow." said Dox.
"Ha." scoffed Yugi.
"We'll see about that." said Joey, placing two cards on his side of the field. "Axe Raider in attack mode! And I'll also place one other card face down on the field."
Axe Raider (ATT:1700/ DEF:1150) grunts as he appears on the field. "But since I can't see your shifty, little monster, I can't attack it, so I won't advance at all this turn." said Joey. "I'll just keep Axe Raider as far away from the wall and your sneaky Weasel as possible, and I'll still be ready to attack at any moment, right?"
"Right. That's a good move, Joey." said Yugi. "As long as you keep far away from the wall, you can avoid any sneak attack by the Wall Shadow."
"So far, so good." thought Joey. "I havent cost us any life points."
"Good move." said Tea. "I hope Joey can keep this up."
"Don't sweat it." said Bakura. "With Yugi as his partner, Joey can't lose."
"I hope you're right." said Tristan, gaining their attention.
"Huh?" said Bakura and Tea.
"This tag team stuff is tricky cause they can focus on attacking the weakest duelist first." Tristan explained.
"You mean Joey." said Tea.
"Actually, you and Bakura are both right." said Paige. "Because Joey didn't come up with just a good move. He came up with a smart move. But there is a chance that they could lose."
"My turn, and I lay this card facedown." said Dox, placing a card face down. "Jirai Gumo. (ATT:2100/ DEF:1000) Heh heh heh heh. Any opposing monster that steps on the space with Jirai Gumo's symbol will instantly fall victim to its fatal surprise. Ha ha ha ha! I'll also lay the Labyrinth tank in attack mode and move it forward 7 spaces."
The Labyrinth Tank (ATT:2400/ DEF:2400) appears on the field, moving forward to its destination inside the maze. "Good job, brother." praised Para. "That should help trap them within our maze."
"Thank you, brother." said Dox, grinning from ear to ear.
"It's my turn." said Yugi, drawing his next card and glanced at Joey. "I play the Celtic Guardian in attack mode!"
Celtic Guardian snarls as he appears on the field. "Advance 4 paces into the maze." Yugi said and Celtic Guardian walks into the maze.
"But the Celtic Guardian's attack strength is much lower than that of the Wall Shadow's." said Bakura.
"Then he'll be wiped out." said Tea.
"What are you up to?" Paige asked herself as she looked at her brother.
"Hyah!" said the brothers as they went across the room. "HYA-YA-YA-YAH!"
"You fool! Did you not learn anything?" asked Para. "Wall Shadow, attack Celtic Guardian now!" Wall Shadow snarled as it rapidly went to Celtic Guardian.
"Your Guardian is doomed, and your life points with it." said Dox as Wall Shadow popped out, snarling.
"Hmm. I'm afraid not." said Yugi, a small smirk appeared on his face.
"What do you mean?" asked Para.
"Kunai with Chain!" shouted Joey as Kunai with Chain wraps itself around Wall Shadow.
"What is this!" screeched Para.
"My trap card worked!" exclaimed Joey as Axe Raider pulls on the chain. "Reel him in, Axe Raider! Ha ha. The card I played facedown before was a trap card….Kunai with Chain. It captures any opponent that attacks. I laid that trap card to help Yugi."
Out on the field, Celtic Guardian felt his power level rise to 1900. "It raised the Celtic Guardian's attack power by 500, putting its strength higher than Wall Shadow's." said Joey.
"I like it. That's sneaky." said Paige.
"Celtic Guardian, attack Wall Shadow!" yelled Yugi as Celtic Guardian raised his sword high above his head, swinging it against Wall Shadow.
"So, now its lights out for your shadow." added Joey.
"N-No!" cried Para as his Wall Shadow was sent to the graveyard.
"Wall Shadow is beaten!" said Yugi and Joey, who gave a thumbs up.
"What a team!" said Tea and Paige.
"Yeah, they're working together to beat those wacky brothers." said Bakura.
"Joey's really getting to be a much better player." thought Tristan. "He's thinking strategically."
"Aah! To stop our decline, these two we must halt!" said Para as his life points went to 1700.
"Don't look at me. It's not my fault." argued Dox.
"Ha. If we keep this up, we'll win this double duel and have enough star chips to enter the castle." said Joey. "Teamwork, Yugi!"
"Right, but we havent won yet." said Yugi. "We have to keep on our guard if we're going to beat the Paradox brothers and win our way out of this twisted, underground labyrinth."
"A toast to Yugi for winning the first round with the help of his little pal, Joey." said Pegasus, raising his wine glass to the duel on the screen. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Hmm?" he said and Croquet walks in.
"Master Pegasus, a thousand pardons for interrupting your greatness." said Croquet.
"I'm growing tired of your constant interruptions, Croquet." said Pegasus.
"I-I thought you'd want to know that Seto Kaiba's been spotted on the island." Croquet explained to him.
"I already know that, Croquet." Pegasus said, irritably. "Why are you, the head of my security, always the last to learn these things? Don't worry. Kaiba will come to us. After all, we have the bait."
As Pegasus laughs, Mokuba continued to sit alone in his cell, waiting for Kaiba to come and save him from the nightmare he was living. "Whats happened to you, brother?" Mokuba thought to himself as he looked at the picture of Kaiba. "Why havent you come? You said you'd would be here for me. Well, where are you? You never failed me before."
[Flashback]
An older kid held a toy train up high from Mokuba, out of his reach. "Give it back! Give it to me!" Mokuba yelled at the older kid before falling to his knees, sobbing.
"Aaaah!" shouted Kaiba, tackling the kid who had Mokuba's toy train.
"I give! I give!" said the kid.
"Here, Mokuba." said Kaiba, handing it to him.
"Thanks." said Mokuba.
[Flashback ends]
"You always come through for me, so where are you now, Seto?" wondered Mokuba. "Why havent you found me? I need you! Why havent you stopped Pegasus?"
Out on the island, Kaiba continued his way towards the castle to rescue Mokuba. "I'm coming, Mokuba." Kaiba thought to himself. "I'm coming to save you, and if Pegasus tries to get in my way, he'll live to regret it."
