This fan fiction trailer (and the future story content) is dedicated to people who watched Vox Machina and like lots of naughty adult humor, while also valuing a show with wholesome themes, deep lore, and strong, well-written characters.
I'm not sure if my latest crossover book will hold up to the standards of Critters or Hammerheads, (Warhammer fans and Critical Role fans,) but I'm giving the idea a try anyway.
What's with the Vytal Festival logo from RWBY?
I just thought it looked cool as the cover for this book.
HEY FOLKS! Did you hear the news? Time to put on your adventure shoes! Because Dungeons and Dragons is getting a live action MOVIE!
Honor Among Thieves, right? Because why be a traditional goody-two-shoes "hero" when you can be a kleptomaniac?
Granted, most of you have already heard the news about this. And therefore you all have your adventure shoes on your feet in anticipation.
First there was Stranger Things. Then there was Critical Role. Not to mention the countless authors and creators who have worked in the medium of tabletop roleplaying games.
This upcoming movie in March is the final big push to make DND a mainstream, ubiquitous pop culture phenomenon, a BRAND, in much the same fashion as Star Wars and Marvel Comics. And should this endeavor succeed, Dungeons and Dragons will seize the metaphorical throne that Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter all once collectively held, the throne of fiction and pop culture's most influential franchise.
It's finally time to overthrow Disney's monopoly, and embrace new forms of storytelling, imagination and make-believe. Humans are certainly a remarkable species, since we made up all these imaginary things, places and people to keep us company in this lonely reality.
But that's not what we're here to talk all day about.
This is a fanfiction trailer, after all. So what are we writing about? What does the Maker have planned on His agenda?
Well, because we have a DND movie coming up this March, and because Henry Cavill is planning on making a totally insane Warhammer TV series, why not amalgamate the best parts of tabletop gaming's two most iconic titles? DND's 50th anniversary is coming up, too, and Warhammer's 35th anniversary was last year in 2022.
What if there was a part of the cosmology in Warhammer, a completely separate place from the Milky Way, that was home to all the countless races and sentient species from the DND multiverse? An alliance of free worlds, to speak of? Free from the horrific oppression perpetrated by the Imperium and Chaos! For now, that is...
Remember Spelljammer? Nautical pirate ships cruising the depths of space? That campaign setting is going to play a big part in this fanfic's story. Imagine the battleship Yamato, but made to travel the stars. What a sight to see!
And if you've read about Eberron, you know that the fusion of magic and technology will be crucial to the survival of the Alliance, which is my new DND-derived Warhammer faction, specifically for this fanfiction.
Lastly, to handle the problem of organizing the story, I'm making it an anthology, NOT a novel. I've had a decent amount of success on the platform with my most popular and frequently updated fanfiction anthology, Starhammer 50k, so I'm using the same formula. I can only hope people like it, I'll be super glad if they do.
So, I present to you, all the people in the audience who chose to view this story trailer:
Hammers and Dragons: The Neckbeard Wars!
Okay, seriously, though. We got the name out of the way, and the ideal technique for writing the story, as well as a few general themes for the main faction and world setting, but what about the premise, and the plot?
Sit tight, because we're getting there!
In the far reaches of intergalactic space, in between life and death, reality and imagination, wakefulness and dreaming, all at once, there is a place called the Eternal Isles. It is what a mortal man could only call a "multiverse," a never-ending expanse of worlds, realms and planes of existence, that is constantly expanding with no end in sight. It is where the impossible can often become possible, and emotions and thoughts manifest themselves into physical forms.
As expected, the Eternal Isles are home to numberless sentient beings, each individual world having its own mixture of peoples and civilizations, and most remarkably, there are literal gods that shape these locations, creators and destroyers, who have nothing better to do with their power.
But the one thing that is always consistent about the Eternal Isles, in a realm full of inconsistency and unpredictability, is that it's very hard to leave once you get there.
Who'd ever want to leave, though, in a place of theoretically infinite possibilities and opportunities? You get what I'm saying, right?
The real problem is who would want come to the Eternal Isles to exploit the hell out of all those wonderful things and bring tyranny and oppression to the realms.
And some very bad people eventually ended up finding their way there, leading to a full-blown war between universes... and that's what this turbulent tale is going to be all about.
I'll give you a hint, the antagonists of the story use a double-headed eagle emblem as their national symbol, flag and coat of arms. And they're not even the worst horrors to invade the worlds of DND in this mashup.
Who's gonna stop 'em? And how?
Before I tell you that story, I have to tell you this story. An excellent DND playthrough always starts with creating amazing characters with meaty backstories, the backbone of the party. Heroes are forged by tragedy, but be warned, so are villains.
I have plans for a team with 9 characters- soon enough it will be time to meet Team Invicta, the legendary band of adventurers and mercenaries who stood up to the Imperium, and led an army against the authoritarian regime's forces, against all odds.
Will the Alliance hold its ground and save the multiverse from damnation and all that is corrupt and vile? Or will the worlds of DND and Warhammer be doomed to an eternity of tyranny?
I'm looking at YOU, fans of Stranger Things and Critical Role! Your support is much appreciated! I'd be honored if you want to see this project flourish! And in fact... I'm trying my best to make a few original characters for Team Invicta!
See you on the path to glory...
Next time: The nine heroes of Team Invicta- the Forge of Heroes (building the character roster)
Oh, and read my other stuff on the website too. I'm more likely to finish a project one day if people show their support.
