Chapter Thirteen
Aizawa's claim of the crowd below being unwelcomed villains caused alarm to run through the gathered-together group, especially as the crowd below seemed to keep growing larger to outweigh them heavily. As suddenly as they appeared, their training for the day was abruptly derailed as the threat loomed below in wait.
Eira and Enya let out twin growls, rising up from where they'd been resting in the cloak draped around Kagome's shoulders as their fur bristled and stood on end. Seconds later, they jumped down. A blaze of embers swirled around Enya whilst a flurry of ice encompassed Eira. Once it faded, they stood in their larger forms. They stalked closer to stand beside Aizawa, glowering down at the unwelcome audience below. Kagome frowned, about to follow them, only to be stopped by a hand gripping her wrist when she got two steps away from the others. She froze and swapped her gaze to the boy beside her.
"Kirishima?" She swapped her gaze from his face and down to where he kept a firm grip on her wrist, preventing her from going towards where Aizawa stood alongside Eira and Enya. When he glanced at her, she darted her attention back up to his face. He didn't say anything about it, but she got the message loud and clear. She was silent as she backtracked her steps, reclaiming her spot alongside the rest. Even as she did, she didn't bother to tug her wrist free.
"Don't move!"
Those had been Aizawa's words. She knew that it was better to listen to them. For now, at least. She relented, but the unease she felt only continued to grow.
"There's no way villains could've easily gotten into a Hero's school," Kirishima said, calling attention back to him. Kagome frowned, wishing she could agree with it, but…
"Yet they have, and so many at that…" she softly responded. Even with the presence of Pro Heros, it seemed like a tricky situation.
"What about the trespasser sensors?" Momo asked.
"We have them, of course," Thirteen said, "but…"
"Did they only show up here, or around the whole school?" Shoto asked. "Either way, if the sensors aren't responding, then that means someone has a Quirk that interferes with them in some way." He paused, seeming to think for a second. "An isolated area separate from the main campus during a time a class is meant to be here… They might be fools, but they're not dumb."
Kagome nodded, her frown deepening. "You mean…" He met her stare with a similar nod of his head.
"This surprise attack was carefully planned," he stated. "Done so in a way with a goal in mind."
"But what…-"
"Thirteen, go on and start the evacuation," Aizawa stated as he turned back toward them. "Try calling the school. They even had a plan in mind to counteract the sensors." He paused and turned to look at Kaminari. "Kaminari, use your Quirk to try and get in contact, too."
"R-Right."
It was quiet as Aizawa shifted his focus back to the terrain below. With part of a plan worked out, all that was left was…-
"What about you, Aizawa-sensei?" Midoriya asked. "Are you planning to fight by yourself? Even with your ability to erase Quirks, with that many… Eraser Head's fighting style is capturing after erasing the enemy's Quirk. A frontal battle would be…-"
"You can't be a hero if you only have one trick to rely on," Aizawa responded. "Your training's only begun, but you've been taught enough to know that by now." With that, he glanced back at Thirteen. "I'm leaving it to you," he stated. He was met with a nod before he jumped from the stairs that led below and down into the fray.
Though she thought they would follow, Eira and Enya stayed put, much to Kagome's surprise. She didn't miss the way they were prepared for a fight, but she doubted they'd stray far from her side when she was so close to the danger unless she said otherwise.
"Everyone, let's go," Thirteen said. While the others fell into pace following them, Kagome hovered behind a bit. Despite the decision that had been made by the teachers, leaving didn't feel right…
She was startled when a hand took her own, and she glanced up. Shippo had a firm grip on her hand, a look she could read well enough on his face. With a bit of reluctance on her part, she allowed herself to fall into pace with the rest of her class. Eira and Enya stayed in place where they were, seeming to act as a shield separating those below from the rest.
They hadn't made it very far before they were forced to come to a halt as a purple haze cut them off from their pathway to the exit. It steadily morphed into a smoky purple figure standing tall in the middle of the path.
"I won't let you escape." As the figure fully formed in the haze, a pair of yellow glowing eyes could be seen. "Nice to meet you. We are the League of Villians. It may be presumptuous of us, but we've let ourselves into the home of heroes, U.A. high school, in order to have All Might, the Symbol of Peace, take his last breath."
The words took the group by surprise, but the smoky figure didn't seem fazed by it as he merely continued.
"I believe All Might should have been here. Has there been some kind of change?" He questioned. "Well, that is neither here nor there," he remarked as he let the shadowy mist spread out some. "This is the part I am to play."
Thirteen lifted a hand, one of the capsule tips on their fingers popping open along with the gesture, but before anything could be done, both Bakugo and Kirishima leaped towards the figure opposing them. A harsh explosion shook the floor as clouds of smoke billowed around them.
"Did you stop to think that you'd get beaten by us before you got to do it?" Kirishima questioned. As the smoke cleared, however, it seemed the figure was unfazed by the attack. The purple haze around him had faded slightly. Even with clothing visible, it seemed that his body was made mostly of that purple and black haze.
"Oh, dear, that's dangerous," he remarked. "That's right, even if you are students, you're excellent golden eggs."
"No!" Thirteen exclaimed. "You two, move away!"
"My job is to scatter you and torture you to death!" he declared as whisps of that black and purple haze shot out and started to form an encompassing terrain. Their surroundings turned dark, the haze spread thick and making it hard to see. Just barely through the haze, Kagome could spot the glowing eyes leveling on her, and she felt her unease grow.
The ground below her feet seemed to give way, but before she could end up falling through like others, she was knocked to the side by a large body covered in cold fur. Both Eira and Enya had dove into the haze as it formed around the group in an attempt to prevent them all from being swallowed by it. As it faded, their group had shrunken considerably as several people were whisked away by the dark haze.
She picked herself up from where she lay, and Eira backtracked a couple of paces as she stood before her with her sharp fangs barred, a low growl rumbling from within her chest. Kagome set a hand on frigid fur as she looked to see who was no longer there with them. It seemed that, much like several of her classmates, Enya had also been swept away to a different place.
She could feel everyone's auras scattered about, so she knew that they were all still present within the building, but they were all over. Still, that knowledge didn't ease her worries any. By the feel of it, they were met with many more opponents. She didn't have the time to let her worries consume her, and she once more braced a hand on Eira's side. "I'm alright," she spoke calmly to the large cat, and, once she had, Eira finally moved. She moved to Thirteen's side, standing before everyone else. Kagome closed the distance between her and the rest that remained.
"Shoji, is everyone here?" Iida asked. Kagome paused beside him, and she glanced towards the boy in question, spotting him using his Quirk to search for the rest. She nodded, answering not long after he posed his question.
"Everyone's still within the building," she commented.
"They're all scattered around, but they're here," Shoji stated, in agreement with her claim. She didn't let it show, but she felt the same relief as the others when her statement was solidified. With that information confirmed twice over, Kagome let her focus shift towards the opposing figure still lurking there- and as did the rest.
"So physical attacks don't seem to affect him, and he can warp things," Sero stated. "Damn it! His Quirk's the worst."
"Class Rep," Thirteen began, turning to glance at Iida, "I entrust this duty to you."
"Yes?"
"I want you to run to the school and inform them of what's happening here," Thirteen stated. "The alarms are not sounding, and our phones don't have signal. The alarm system is based on infrared rays. Even though Eraser Head is erasing people's Quirks left and right, they're still not working, which means they must have someone with an interference Quirk that hid once they arrived," they said. "It would be faster for you to run than for us to locate that person."
"But it would be a disgrace as class rep to leave everyone behind-!" Iida began, only to get cut off by Sato.
"Go, Emergency Exit!" Sato said as he took a few steps forward, "if you can get outside, there are alarms. That's why these guys are only doing this inside, right?"
"As long you go outside, they won't follow you," Sero stated as he went to join Sato at his side. "Blow this fog away with your legs!"
"Use your Quirk to save others," Thirteen said.
"Leave this to us for now," Kagome said, placing a gentle hand on his arm in assurance. She looked up at him with a smile, flashing a thumbs-up with her other hand. "You're the only one we can count on to do it!"
"Yeah!" Uraraka exclaimed, saddling up to her side with Mina. "I can totally support you like I did in the cafeteria! I will! Please, we're counting on you, Iida!"
"... Right!" He said, "leave this to me!"
With a plan of action seemingly mapped out, they shifted their focus back to the figure lurking before them. By now, the remaining haze had faded, and he'd once more taken on a more humanoid shape.
"Even if you have no other choice, are there really idiots that talk about their plan right in front of the enemy?!" he taunted. As he did, he prepared another attack of that haze and fired it toward them. Before it could get too close, Thirteen took a step closer and lifted an arm.
"We did it because it doesn't matter if we're found out!" Thirteen countered. The cap on their finger opened once more, and the haze began to get absorbed into it. "Black Hole!"
He didn't seem all that fazed as more and more of that dark mist got sucked in by Thirteen's Quirk. "Black Hole, which sucks up everything and turns it into dust. I see, that is an astounding Quirk," he remarked. "However, Thirteen, you are a hero that works to rescue people from disasters, and, as expected, your battle experience is less than half of ordinary heroes." As he said that, he opened a warp gate from behind Thirteen, leaving them exposed to their own Quirk. As they began to get sucked in by their own Quirk, he let out a chuckle, glowing eyes narrowing in amusement. "You turned yourself into dust."
"Sensei!" Mina cried as Thirteen fell forward, landing motionless on the ground. Before anything could change, Sato turned to Iida.
"Go, now!" he exclaimed. When Iida glanced at him, Sato gave a nod of encouragement. "You have to hurry!"
His hesitation was clear on his face, but as he looked over at the rest, he was met with that same desperation from the rest. He clenched his jaw and nodded, forcing himself to push his hesitance down in order to allow burning determination to fill the place. "Right!" he exclaimed, and he shifted his focus back to their decided plan. As he took off running towards the sealed door, the opponent was quick to notice.
In the center of Iida's path, he attempted to form another warp gate, but before it could fully form and send him elsewhere, Shoji leaped and encased it in his arms, preventing it from working as it should. "Go!" he cried before Iida could falter in his steps any, "hurry!"
"You impertinent-!" Still, he didn't relent, and he sent another attempt to block Iida's path with the other failed to succeed. "I won't allow you to go outside!"
"That silver band!" Uraraka exclaimed, and Kagome glanced toward her at the sound of her voice. A second later, she swapped her focus back to the enemy, easily spotting the same thing.
"What about it?" she asked. Uraraka glanced at her as she clambered up on her feet from where she'd been beside Thirteen, running towards the enemy. Without waiting, she lunged forward and set both hands against the silver band that was now visible. As soon as she had, the haze that'd encased Iida's path immediately faded.
"I don't know the theory behind it, but if he's wearin' something like this, then that means he must have a physical body!" she exclaimed. A second later, she threw her arms upward, tossing the silver band up into the air with the help of her Quirk. "Go, Iida!"
Despite being caught off-guard for a couple of seconds, he still didn't relent. Almost immediately, his attention shifted back to Iida, and Kagome gave a defiant shout.
"I don't think so!" Kagome cried, "not this time!" She set her foot firmly to the ground, and seconds later, a sheer pink sheet of ice spread out. It quickly spread ahead of him before shooting up to form a barrier between him and Iida.
"Ya' think we'll just let you do whatever you want?" Sero challenged, coming up to her side. As he did, he shot a band of tape out, which connected with the silver band and snagged him in place. "No shot!" He yanked his arm back, and Sato snatched the piece of tape. As it tore free, he spun and threw him in the opposite direction as hard and as far as he could manage.
Iida reached the door and pried it open, managing to make his way out before the enemy could try and reach him again.
"All right!" Sero exclaimed, turning to Kagome and holding a hand out. She smiled and mirrored him, meeting him for a high-five. "We're a great team, all of us!" he stated, and Kagome nodded in agreement.
"Totally!"
"Say, that ice…" Sato commented, "your Quirk definitely seems a lot like Todoroki's!"
"Hm…?" She tilted her head to the side with a slight hum. "Is it?" she asked. A second later, she shook her head with a flush of pink on her face. "He's a lot more impressive, anyway!"
As those words left her lips, she shifted her focus back to the villain they'd been up against whilst up on the platform still. Blue eyes narrowed as she spotted him making his way back to others of his group down at the bottom, where Aizawa had gone.
"Now that Iida made it through, help will be here in no time," Kagome remarked. The others turned their eyes toward her as she made her way over to Eira. She set a hand on her head before she turned back to the rest. "Uraraka, Mina, you two stick by Thirteen and help them," she said. "Sato, Sero, Shoji, just in case things spiral out here again, you guys stick up here, too," she said.
"Wait, what are you up to?" Sero asked. Kagome glanced back at him, and none of them were able to miss the ice in her blue eyes.
"What do you think?" she asked. A second later she mounted Eira's back. "Aizawa-sensei is outnumbered, and this type of battle doesn't suit his fighting style."
"Seriously?!" he responded. "You're gonna just run into the middle of it?"
Kagome offered him a smile and flicked her hand a few times. "You sound like you don't have much faith in me at all!"
"It's dangerous," Mina said. Kagome glanced at her and offered her a gentle smile.
"Well, I'm plenty dangerous myself," she remarked. She'd taken on just as many enemies on her own before, and she knew how to take care of herself in combat fairly well. Eira stretched and let out a roar, pouncing up into the air seconds later. With no opportunity for a response, Eira bounded off on command.
"Jeeze, these guys don't really put up much of a fight, do they?" Shippo sighed, combing clawed fingers through his hair. Enya puffed her chest out, ears twitching as she stayed alert for any approaching sounds. Aqua eyes strayed from her and to the boy with split red and white hair. As he did, it was easy to spot the mass of them encased almost entirely in ice. Hands behind his head, he closed the distance towards him, Enya following not far behind.
"I hate to say it, but these guys don't look like they know what to do with their Quirks," he responded. Shippo hummed at hearing him speak, nodding in agreement a second later. Todoroki glanced at him from the corner of his eye, easily noting how much more amicable he seemed towards him without the presence of Kagome. He wasn't much for glares away from her, it seemed.
"Y'know, you have a point," Shippo hummed in response. He glanced back at the few he'd knocked out and ensnared in traps, but they weren't much for freeing themselves, by the looks of it. "They're planning on taking All Might down, but these guys aren't much of a fight even when we're outnumbered by 'em. They've gotta have a different strategy in mind."
"At first I thought that they'd gathered all their elite and were planning on taking him down by outnumbering him," Todoroki stated. As he spoke, the sound of running steps echoed under his voice, but the two figures charging from opposite sides were quickly dealt with. The one from the front was frozen in place, and Shippo slammed his elbow into the ribs of the one rushing them from behind. Without skipping a beat, he turned and snatched him up by the neck, tossing him to the ground where he landed, unconscious. Unfazed, the duo-haired boy continued, "but a closer look shows that the opponents that were prepared for us are nothing more than a ragtag group of thugs."
"By the look of it, there were only a couple of guys that seemed like trouble," Shippo remarked, shrugging his shoulders and once more setting his hands behind his head. "That guy that scattered everyone around and a few more that stuck around by Aizawa-sensei."
He nodded in agreement, and Shippo glanced at him with an arched brow when Todoroki looked towards the frozen figures.
With them subdued, wasting time here wouldn't have any benefit.
"Eira, down there!" Kagome said. On cue, the cat turned her attention down towards the ground where the miko had pointed. It was easy to see where she was asking to be taken, and she obeyed. She made for the ground, landing not far away from the ongoing battle, and Kagome leaped from her back. Before she could take a step toward everyone, her eyes landed on the familiar figure of Aizawa pinned to the ground with blood splattered around him. She froze, eyes going wide, before she pushed all wariness away.
"Aizawa-sensei!" she cried, beginning to make her way toward him, only to come to a halt not far from where she had been.
"Stay away!" His shout made her freeze in her steps. Her eyes shifted from him and towards the creature pinning him down. Its appearance reminded her more of demons she'd fought in the feudal era than anything else.
Aizawa wasn't the only one who'd taken note of her presence, and she was quick to notice the attention on her. She took notice of Midoriya alongside Tsu and Mineta, but… She searched for the source, identifying it to be coming from the blue-haired man standing beside the enemy she'd followed down here. Up until now, he'd been furiously scratching at his neck with both hands to the point he'd started to bleed, but the moment he realized she was there, he'd stopped. His hands lowered, and through the severed hand covering his face, she could spot a red eye focused on her.
"Oh," he remarked, "so here you are. I was gonna have you sent here in the first place, but it seems you avoided that."
Kagome felt confusion swell inside her, and she craned her head to the side. "Huh?" Why her?
As she stood there, she couldn't help but shake the feeling that something about this man was familiar on some level, but she couldn't quite place it. It left her scratching her head as she tried to put it together.
"Shigaraki Tomura."
Though the figure at his side had spoken, Shigaraki kept his attention on her as he responded. "Kurogiri. Did you kill Thirteen?"
"I put Thirteen out of commission, but there were other students I was unable to disperse," the shadowy figure now identified as Kurogiri responded. "One of them was able to run away."
"Huh? Kurogiri…. You…" Kagome was able to feel his anger and agitation from where she stood, and she watched, frozen in place, as he began to scratch at his neck furiously once more. "If you weren't a warp gate, I would've crushed you into pieces." As suddenly as his anger became visible, he went back to eerily calm seconds later. "We can't win against a bunch of pros. It's game over," he stated. "Man, it's game over this time. Let's go home," he commented.
She was taken aback by his sudden surrender, but she wasn't able to find peace in the claim as he shifted his focus back to her. At once she tensed up, schooling her expression as she watched him warily.
"Oh yeah, before we leave… I've been wanting to test something on you," he remarked. His comment sounded far too ominous for her liking. She didn't have time to react before was abruptly directly in front of her, and she was surprised by just how fast he was.
His hand made contact with her neck, thumb pressing up under her chin to keep her head at an angle so she was forced to look up at him. It was silent as she remained frozen in place.
"..." He didn't have much of a reaction, but after a few seconds, he sighed. "You really are cool, aren't you, Eraser Head?"
At his comment, Kagome looked behind him from under his arm, and she was just barely able to see Aizawa once more keeping the fight up. His hair was raised, and it was clear he was using his Quirk to erase the one Shigaraki possessed.
"But," he continued, "I can't really get the answer I want if you keep getting in the way by playing hero, now can I?" Shigaraki continued. It was seconds later when the creature pinning him to the ground slammed Aizawa's head to the ground, effectively cutting off his own Quirk.
Kagome reacted then, shooting a hand out. She slammed her palm into his chin, knocking his head back, before bringing her leg up and kicking him away from her. She tried to backtrack, but he followed. When he did, she was quick to notice Midoriya jump from where he'd been in the water beside Tsu and Mineta. As Shigaraki reached for her a second time, Midoriya ran toward him with his arm prepped in a punch.
"Get away from her!" he cried.
As he aimed his hit, the air around them all shifted, and she was keen to notice the sudden closeness of the large creature that'd been pinning Aizawa to the ground. As the dirt and dust cleared, the figure now towered between them and Midoriya, and it'd taken the brunt force of his hit with no reaction.
Shigaraki had paused with his hand inches from her once more, and she quickly shifted her focus to Aizawa- spotting him on his own. She saw her opening, and she move quickly. Kagome raced over to where Aizawa lay on the ground. As she did, there was a loud noise from the upper level as the door up there was forcibly opened. She glanced up, and her eyes landed on All Might's figure standing at the top of the stairs.
Auroua-chan: I've been working on this chapter for while now. I wasn't meaning for it to be so long, but I didn't want to cut it off in the middle anywhere.
So, some of her classmates have noticed she has a Quirk similar to someone else, and Shippo can be surprisingly sociable to Todoroki when he's not in protective mode over Kagome.
Shigaraki tried to test his Quirk on Kagome to see if it really had no effect, but his attempt for an answer was interrupted. Given how it didn't work when they first ran into each other, it doesn't seem likely, but he still has to know… after all, if that's the case, she's pretty special.
Meanwhile, we're getting closer and closer to the point where Kagome will cross paths with her father again! I'm super excited for that moment- for many reasons. It also means that characters like Shinso and people from Class 1B will be showing up very soon. Not to mention, that point will also mark the first time Sesshoumaru interacts with Endeavor- and maybe some interaction between Mama Higurashi and him, as well, because of course, she's gonna be supporting her daughter any chance she gets.
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bye for now~
