Hello everyone, it's been a while. I apologize for the close call on missing a chapter for this month, I'll explain the reasoning for that shortly. I thank you all for being so patient with me. I hope you all are doing well during these times. We've finally reached the conclusion of the Alfheim Arc. And now, Atreus has finished the first steps to building his army to oppose Odin and prevent Ragnarök. With that, I felt it was time for another Q/A to answer some lingering questions, to give some of my own thoughts, and to ask some questions of you.
Question 1: Do Fenrir and Hel currently exist?
Based on what I've researched, both characters have been referenced or mentioned directly either from Mimir's stories or by the Jotunn Shrines. How they came into existence has yet to be explained, but we'll be finding out in the next game. Of course, I have my own theory on what could have happened, which I'll write up in future chapters.
Question 2: What future allies will Atreus possibly have?
This is a hard question to answer without giving away spoilers for the next coming chapters. Some obvious groups could join Atreus's crusade, while others would be surprising, but could work given already existing context in the game and novel (which I recommend reading). I will say for absolute certainty that most of the Aesir, remaining trolls and ogres, and Disir will not help him. Who are the Disir, you ask? Who knows, only time will tell. Don't worry, Thor and Atreus will not share pints of ale at the end of the story.
Question 3: Atreus's Fighting Style?
When it came to deciding how Atreus would fight, I didn't want him to be a Kratos 2.0. I wanted him to be unique and possess abilities that his father couldn't achieve. I've seen this brought up in the comments, and in my mind, I pictured Atreus being a very flexible fighter. In-game mechanics, it would be somewhat like a triple talent tree system. In which one could focus on being a hard, heavy hitter like Kratos, using heavy weapons and brute force (But not to the same caliber, even though it could be possible given that Atreus is the child of two strong warriors from different cultures). Swift and cunning, so using his bow and other tricks to outspeed his enemies. Or magic, such as his shapeshifting and perhaps future abilities. I tried to incorporate this aspect without making the Last Son of Sparta come off as overpowered. Which, hopefully, came out good. Overall, he'll still be nimble and mostly rely on swift tactics instead of muscling through every obstacle.
Now it's time to discuss the Elephant in the room...
Question 4: Will I continue the story, even after the new God of War game is released?
The new God of War game has been teased, and I'm absolutely excited to see what unfolds. As I had mentioned before, this story was sort of my take on what would have happened if Atreus took up the mantle as the protagonist of the God of War franchise. By the way, I appreciate all of your comments and compliments. It makes my day soo much better. But anyway, as of right now, we can't confirm what's going to happen in the next installment. If Kratos will die, or not. No matter how they do it, I do hope Atreus gets a good spotlight. Given that Loki's suppose to be a crucial character in Ragnarök.
If, by some absurdly crazy coincidence, that the sequel follows the same path that I'm taking my story (which is very unlikely, and I'm honestly not expecting to happen), then I'll probably not continue since it would be redundant. But overall, I'm still going to continue this story otherwise. I enjoy it, I've had a lot of fun. There may be times I'll take a break and have to prioritize something else, such as my novel. But as of now, I'm still going to be posting for this story. I'll also not play the game when it first comes out, to ensure that what I write won't incidentally take inspiration from the canon source material.
Updates:
Recently, I've gotten a new job. I won't go into details, but it's full-time work. The demand was a little more than I anticipated, which led me to get fatigued this month and be close to late on my deadline. Before, I was working from home, so I had much free time on my hands. However, I couldn't determine if the job I was doing would be a permanent solution. I'm still currently working on that one and my new one. Once my savings are built up, and if I know for sure that my stay at home job can be long-lasting. I'll lighten the load and return to writing and drawing again.
Now onto something interesting, I'd like to ask you all a few questions. Stuff that's been on my mind, and I've wanted some feedback on it. If you could answer, I'd greatly appreciate it. You can either message me your thoughts or comment.
First question: How would you feel if I wrote the first chapter, "War and Thunder," but from Kratos's perspective?
I didn't initially do this because 1, I felt people wouldn't be comfortable watching Kratos die. 2, some fans might not be happy with how I do it. And 3, I thought it would be a good shift to having Atreus take the spotlight of the story. However, it's been a lingering thought of mine to do it for some time now. That way, people could truly see what the strongest of both pantheons can do when put against each other. And give you a clear picture of how devastating their clash was. Perhaps not immediately, but I'd write it in the future, so it doesn't take away from the main story.
Second Question: Are there any improvements that you believe I can make?
This is a broad one, but in general, are there any misspellings, errors, or anything that you believe I can improve on that will make the story better to read?
Third Question: Is there any aspects of the story that still confuse you, or that need to be elaborated on better?
That is all.
I'll admit, the Alfheim Arc took longer than expected. If it felt like it was running on for too long, I apologize. There was just so much I wanted to introduce and many aspects that I wanted to tackle. Regardless, I appreciate all of your continued support. We're nearing 20k views, that's amazing! Thank you all again for reading, following, and supporting my story. It means so much to me to have you all here!
I'm looking forward to seeing your reactions in the coming chapters. A lot of good stuff is about to unfold. I wish you all the best, be safe, healthy, and be sure to find ways to keep your spirits high during these strange times. Have a great rest of your 2020!
