Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Hunter and Soldier. Enjoy the 3200-word chapter. I don't own Halo, Microsoft, and 343 do.
(2525, September 12th, Reach 5:45 PM)
Both Spartans were so silent and still that one could mistake them for statues. It'd be a lot more interesting to them if they weren't bored and at odds with one another. Even if it came down to it? Both were still studying one another. they were always doing this. This had been something interesting to both of them at the time. He cleared his throat.
Gram and Cal stared at one another from the tree branch. Cal's rifle sat hung across her back before he seemed to question what was coming as of the second. He tapped the holster on his side as the two Spartans watched the moon.
His crimson eyes stared at the woman as he hummed to himself, curious as to what to do next.
"Are you ok?" Cal questioned before she raised an eyebrow and looked around. "Gram," Cal stated.
"I'm fine, just hurt." Gram said while he looked back and forth before he seemed to glance around the room. "Why? You're the one who was exhausted from hauling my ass back." Gram said, bitterness starting to seep into his voice.
The Spartan sniper sighed to herself. She knew Gram was mad at himself for putting a burden on himself. she slowly started to shift her weight to glance over at the Spartan who crossed his arms and leaned against the tree before he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
He closed his eyes, sighing as he seemed to question what to do at the time. it'd be a lot harder for her to question what to do next.
Sure, training wouldn't be that bad, but it was still something he should have excelled at when it came down to it. There's so much that had been ready when he considered it… And he had screwed it up because he almost always seemed to do that even if it was by accident of the moment.
It had been something that he hated to no end. This was going to end sooner or later. It had to end before there was a drop in the bucket. It had to end sooner or later. There was no other way that had to come to an end.
He sighed before he looked around and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth when it came down to it. there was a lot more to this than he couldn't end.
He sighed before he clicked his fingers together, rubbing the calloused fingers against his side before he looked around before he hummed, and seemed to think of what to do next. If only for a single moment did, he slowed down.
She glanced at the smaller and younger Spartan who seemed to be deep in thought. With a small glance at him, she slowly adjusted her weight so she was sitting in front of him, legs crossed under her as she hummed. he slowly seemed to notice as he opened his eyes to glance at her for a second while he sighed, questioning what to do next.
He had been bored, she could see his eyes narrow slightly as he tried to glance away, knowing the woman was indeed going to push him when it came to it. He had a lot more questions when it came to their ideals.
There was a moment of silence when it seemed to come down to whom would be better.
"You're hiding something." Cal pointed out as Gram hummed. "Gram, tell me. You know I'll find out one way or another. I KNOW you." Cal stated before she hummed to herself.
"I got hit because I couldn't fight fast enough." Gram stated. "You had to carry me back when it came down to it. It means that we're going to be less effective on the battlefield when it came down to it." Gram added to himself.
There was a silence before the Spartan sniper slowly straightened up. Gram rested his hands on his face, trying to cover his face.
Gram sighed to himself while he knew what she'd do. She knew him and he knew her at the end of the day. They were both in the same stitch, both soldiers who knew enough about one another to say or do anything.
Still? there was a lot more on the mind than simply how they felt. He only had his hands on his chest for a second before it came down to it. He had a lot more to fathom and a lot more to deal with when it came down to it. there was a lot more that couldn't question what to do next. He had been curious as of the second.
There was a lot more when it came down to it.
(2 months later)
Cal dodged a kick from Gram as he flipped backward while he hummed to himself. there was a sigh as he seemed to question what to do next. It had to come to an end sooner or later. He'd be bringing her down sooner or later and it only came down to how well she was willing to fight at the second.
He hummed before this ended. He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and dodged a kick that would have probably decapitated him when it connected…. If it had landed on him and been dodged before then.
Still? It didn't mean it was easy for him to do so. She was as strong as she was fast of the time. he had been curious when it came down to it. He had a lot more on the line before this came down to it.
He hummed to himself while he rolled his eyes while he glanced at the woman at the time. He knew what she'd do, he knew her damn well enough to predict what she'd do next as of the time being. There was so much more to say and do when it comes down to it. It was so much that he could question and did. It had to end at some point even if he didn't at all support the idea in his mind. He still needed to question as of the time before he tilted his head while he questioned to himself what was to come next before enow. This was going to be a lot more curious as of the time being when it came down to it. He raised a hand to his face before he looked to the side.
Cal put her hand under his bruised chin while he turned to look at her. Cuts and bruises were tracing across his face. She ran her calloused fingers across a scar that had been forming from a knife one of the marines had thrown at his face. The flesh had healed up properly. It made her question what had been coming when it came down to it. there was a lot more on the time. This had been a lot harder on him than it had been on her.
He looked at her with interest as he cracked his fingers while he hummed before he looked down at the ground below and sighed. This seemed to bring more questions when it comes down to it.
They had been a lot more on his mind when it came down to it. there was too much to just question what was to say as of the second. She had to be read.
Gram rested his right hand on hers, she squeezed his shoulder as he stared into her eyes. There was a lot more to do when it comes down to it. She had been a lot more curious as to what had happened next. It'd be a lot more hopeful when she came down to it. She had many thoughts on her mind.
"This wasn't going to be easy; you knew that when they put us into this. We both know we're going to be in this for life when it comes down to it."
"I got you," Cal said before Gram nodded at his friend before he cracked his fingers. "You know I got you, I'll always get you… Even if you're a dumbass because of how much you get into fights like this often enough I need to bail you out." Cal stated as Gram rolled his eyes.
He knew she was just screwing with him when it came down to it. there was more to this as of the second. It was just to mess with him if she was so annoyed? She'd not be saying or doing anything to back him up at the moment.
Still? if that was what she wanted to do? He'd damn well do it. He needed to be prepared for this even if he had to cut through every little thing at the moment. They knew the other more than anything else. It'd be a lot funnier if this was a lot more to say and do before today was done and dusted. It'd probably be this way forever and ever at the end of the day. nothing else would change this before long. It'd be a lot
He leaned against the edge of the tree, watching the woman who had been a friend of his for longer than he had been here. It seemed as if they were fated to do this forever.
Still? there was a lot more riding on this before now. It'd probably always be this way at the end of the day. he'd need to end this before all of this moment.
This was a lot more to say and do before now. He knew the woman more than he seemed to know himself for the time being. he couldn't begin to question herself before now. This was a lot more interesting than he expected it to be when this was to be.
He cracked his fingers. there was a small silence that had to be paid. He'd pay it damn gladly if he needed to it as of the time being. Gram knew that there was going to be a war that had been pulled over the rest of the world when this was said and done. It had to be ready when it came down to it.
He felt the branch creak only slightly. She was as silent and deadly as he was fast and eager to engage the enemy as soon as he saw an opening when it came down to it. This had to be ready, it'd always be ready when all was said and done. This had a lot more to question as of the time being when it came the time when all was said and done.
Cal leaned over the soldier who had been a lot more curious as of the time being. He had a lot more to question when it came down to it. He had been a lot more excited when this was said and done
"Oh, is this going to be a damn long day as of the time being?" Gram stated before he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
This had a lot more to do next. He had been when this seemed to be a lot more to happen as of the time being.
He had been a lot more to handle before now. He watched as Cal leaned over the Spartan. He could only glance into her golden orbs as the woman loomed over the Spartan, staring into the man's eyes before he frowned to himself.
"Are you always going to be so reckless in the middle of combat?" Cal stated before she questioned what the Spartan would do as of the time being.
"No, but I'm going to keep fighting over and over." Gram stated before he hummed while he questioned while he sighed.
He looked back at the Spartan who rested her arm on his shoulder and another on his cheek. The Spartan was honestly a lot more interested in what the hell was to happen before this was said and done. Gram sighed and looked into the sky before all of this was said and done.
(Present Day)
Gram looked through the scope of his BR before looking at Cal. He stared down the shore where the twisted heap of metal and debris was. The UNSC Frigate was still massively in one piece, the bridge had been ripped off the ship which meant that it had been twisted into another piece of crushed scrap.
"What's the move?" Gram questioned before he sighed to himself. "There are at least a dozen hostiles down there. Heavy armor and air support… We know more soldiers are coming down when it came down to it." Gram stated before he rolled his eyes.
He had to question what to do next. They had a lot of work cut out for them at the end of the day. Then again? There was a lot more to do with today…. Including finding a way through the Covenant.
Cal looked down at the ship through her scope. She could only see one of the Elites… And she damn well knew more than anything that his track record would mean he wasn't exactly more dangerous than his kin. There were more than enough soldiers for him to properly handle this. He had to be ready. He needed to be prepared no matter what. He wanted a lot to do before this was all said and done.
It'd be nice if not for nothing. That was nice when it came down to it. They had to be ready for something. Both Spartans would be prepared for anything if push came to shove at the end of the day.
This had been something fun before now and they couldn't wait for it to come down to it. something was interesting about what had been happening to them for the time being. She couldn't place her finger on what it was or how it had come to this, but she knew more than anything that he was focused on the mission… Even if he hadn't fully ben into their mission or what they were after.
He was a spartan after all and his loyalty was not in vain… But it was something she still questioned at the end of the road. She had seen more to this puzzle before it came down to it. there was a lot more to happen at the time when it came down to it.
She had known more than anything that this had been something curious as of the time being and anything else would be a problem before now.
She was a lot more curious to seem to question what to do next.
There was a lot more to happen at the time. There was a lot more to see and do before it had come down to it. She had seemed to understand as of the time being. It had been something odd before now.
She felt very odd in this place even as things seemed to slowly calm down for the time being. She had a thousand different ideas in her mind and such. This had been something funny and nice as of the time being when this came down to it. there was more to be said and done before as of the time being when it came down to it. it was a lot more to say and do as of the time being.
She knew for the fact that she had been a lot more interested in this as of the second before it came down to this before now.
She looked over at Gram who was off guard and off balance by a lot more than he seemed. There was something on his mind that had been bugging him to death even if she wanted it to end before now.
This had been something that had been building in her mind before now.
"What will happen?" Cal had been a lot more curious before the move was made.
There was more to say and do before the move was made. She questioned before this was to begin. It had been a lot more to fathom what to say and do. There was at least one move that neither had seen coming.
"What will happen next if we don't fight their enemy?" Gram questioned before to say or do next before now. "We both know there's more to the Covenant… There's an entire army before now." Gram stated before he sighed to himself before he hummed and questioned what to say or do next.
This had been something that both hadn't expected for the time being. they had been curious as to the time being when the war had been done the time being when this was said and done.
"Draw them out. Remember? We need to deal with the rest of the soldiers down there before dealing with anything major." Cal stated to which Gram nodded and looked before he questioned what to do next.
There had been a lot on their minds and this wasn't helping at the end of the day. They both had their mission and they'd be damned if they hadn't the ability to take it before now. Both Spartans knew that this had been.
Still? There was so much more to this than there was to what had been before… It scared him at the end of the day to know what awaited them next was worse than what was up ahead. If he could relax for even a few seconds? He'd find something to cling to for now… It was oh so much fun for him and the others and he knew it more than anything…. What he did know was just how silly this could be and he wanted nothing more than to be able to relax for now and he knew it for the time being when it was all over with.
Gram enjoyed the work he did though. The enjoyment of getting to hunt, the time to cut down the enemy. This had been something odd for now, something crazy for a time.
"We need to keep going or else their catch up. We both know the Covenant are going to catch us." Gram added while slowly starting to adjust his scope.
He knew for a fact that she had to relax for the second before this was odd for now. Whatever this had been something odd for now.
