Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Hunter and Soldier. Enjoy the 7400-word chapter. I don't own Halo, Microsoft, and 343 do.
(2525, September 13th, Reach 6:30 PM)
Gram flipped the knife through his fingers as he hummed and looked at a recent wound. A scar, one inflicted by a marine who had decided to get cocky and attempted to wound him with the blade. It hadn't exactly worked as Gram had dodged it enough to pry it from the tree and return it with force into its owner's leg.
Gram often seemed to wonder if he was becoming a monster. He hadn't wished to walk this path the way he had… But it seemed as if he had done it before with enough effort for it to be found odd for his liking. He was a Spartan, a soldier who was fighting a remorseless and heartless enemy with all of the strength and skill that could be factored into it. The idea had promise, yet it hadn't sunken in yet. There had been a lot more to this than before.
A heavy group of footsteps had answered him as he turned to look around and over his shoulder. Gram stepped towards Cal as the larger Spartan faced him, her footsteps had been lighter, softer than his. He stared into her golden orbs while questioning what to do next. It had been a while before he managed to question what to do next. He had been oh so interested in what she did next.
"You, ok?" Cal questioned to which Gram nodded before now. "I heard you got shot," Cal said while Gram nodded.
He fell silent for only a few seconds before he tilted his head at her, curious as of now. This had made him curious, a lot more interested as of now.
The idea had taken root in his mouth. It had been a lot odder than it had been before. She seemed to be calm yet he couldn't as of now. He was a lot more focused for now when it came down to this game. He knew for a fact that this had been a lot more to question for now. It had been something fine at the time. He had a few questions for the woman at the end of the day.
She was still his commander and if she had decided he had messed up, that for even a second, he hadn't been able to handle this? He knew he hadn't the ability to argue.
"Stay safe, ok?" Gram heard as he nodded and looked at the ground with interest. "Dr. Halsey wants to see us. She said it's urgent." Gram also heard as he frowned and looked around the area.
Cal said nothing else. She knew more than anything that he had been familiar with the fact that the Doctor watched them like hawks. She hadn't been bothered by it. she was the one who had told them what their purpose was. She scoffed at the idea that the doctor would think any of them would reject it.
They were soldiers. This had been what they had been born for it. They were put through hell, sure… But Cal knew when that had been worse to it as of the time being.
Gram stayed silent, crossing his arms across his chest as the two slowly started to march towards the barracks. They had to be ready for whatever came next. They had to be willing to fight against the worst.
"Are you going to be, ok?" Gram questioned before he seemed to look. "Training is ending. They said it's going to be over in a month or two." Gram stated while crossing his arms across his chest.
"That's my question," Cal stated. "I know you keep getting hurt, you're rushing into fights without thinking," Cal added to which the Spartan Scout sighed.
"Only because they fight dirty. We can't afford to fight them on their terms." Gram added to which she frowned.
(Present times)
Cal sent a bullet through the skull of the brute in front of her. Their body went limp as they collapsed down the twisted metal. There were another few explosions that told them the distraction had been kicked off.
Gram surged forward, emptying his shotgun into a pair of elites clad in crimson armor. Cal watched their chests blossom like flowers as they fell to the ground. The two Spartans slowly began to pick their way through the wreckage. It had been something odd to see so many Covenant soldiers.
"We need to find the data before they manage to dig it out of the ship," Cal said before she turned to look at Gram.
She had been an odd little thing when all was done and dusted for now.
Gram and her spread out. She could tell he was already of what she asked of him. Part of her wondered if Gram had been reading her mind. She wouldn't be surprised considering how attuned they seemed to be when it came down to it. It had been an odd little point of life when all was said and done. It had been a lot to process in her mind.
He had been a soldier just as much as her though. She knew him as well as he knew her. It was a small wonder their minds had been attuned to one another.
"Gram, how many?" Cal questioned to which the green light on her HUD fell silent.
The moment his acknowledgment light flashed? It flashed at least a dozen times as she clicked hers green. She slowly rounded the corner to see Gram had drawn his combat knife and looked at her, slipping the blade through his fingers.
Cal looked ahead to see a few more Elites were milling around, more than that in grunts when she checked, and at least 4 jackals. She knew more than him that there would be a fight. Gram looked at her, awaiting her plan and waiting to see what would come next before now. it had been an odd little thing that was done and dusted for now.
Still? She knew better. Cal knew that there was still a move now that could be made at the time. It was going to be an odd little thing
Gram pointed towards a certain soldier in question and she knew for a fact that this wouldn't end well at the end of the day. she knew what he was looking at when she considered it.
Over in a twisted and shattered hanger which was overfilling with vehicles and soldiers… Were a dozen or so marines, perhaps more when she looked. She hadn't the ability to properly glance at it before now. Whatever came next would be done and dusted.
It was a lot more of an interesting little thing at the end of the day. It'd be a scary thing when this came down to it. They had to hit harder before she seemed to question before now. It'd be a terrifying little maneuver.
"Are you going to be good? Hostiles." Gram stated as he nodded towards the Covenant.
"Do they have the code?" Gram heard as he shrugged and looked at her.
"Can't see. There's more on sensors. The dropship just lifted off. There's no angle where I can see them." Gram added to which he sighed to himself.
He had been oddly thrown off at all. It'd be an odd little piece of control between them. Whatever came next would be a little part of history between the Spartans as they seemed to question their actions and what to do next. Whatever came next was going to be odd for the time being when it was said and done.
What was to come? They'd need to be ready and they all knew it. The idea being what had been something that had been brewing in their minds. Whatever came next as of now. It had been something odd for now. He had a lot more to question for now. This had been something enlightening for now. It had been something odd for this to come next when it was all said and done. Whatever seemed to come next would be a lot odder than this by a long shot and all of them knew it for now.
Whatever came next would be something for the history books. He knew more would be coming sooner or later. It was only a matter of time for now. Yet? He couldn't let that stop him.
"Did Dr. Halsey tell us what she needed from us? Something important?" Gram stated before he clicked his fingers.
"No," Cal said before Gram sighed.
Cal turned, putting her right hand on his shoulder and squeezing it. the smaller Spartan looked at her with a nod before running his thumb across her lips in a smile motion.
"I got you," Cal said as Gram nodded towards her.
"I got you too." Gram stated to which both Spartans slowly started to walk forward. "I trust you." Gram stated before he sighed to himself.
"As I expected you to… You two are rather close, aren't you?" Cal and Gram heard as they turned to see Dr. Halsey.
Both Spartans snapped to the attention which she ignored and beckoned them to follow. She watched them share glances, Gram's right eyebrow raised as he seemed to question his options.
He had a lot more to question for now. Whatever came next would be beyond what they could do. After a second of hesitation? Both Spartans slowly fell into step with the doctor.
"You didn't answer my question," Halsey stated before she hummed, curious as to how this would be next for them. "Gram. I've heard you ambushed 2 of the instructors trying to drag Cal to another room for tests and it took another 4 marines to stop you?" Halsey asked as Gram nodded.
"They had clubs. They always go after Cal. I couldn't let them." Gram added to which Halsey laughed.
"Yes, most tests show you and Cal are quite close. Inseparable, almost. 99.5% of tests have shown your willingness to do anything possible to reunite with Cal. No? This has even gotten you in fights with Solomon-69, no" Halsey stated to which she nodded.
"Yes." Gram stated as he frowned, unsure if this was something that he could deal with.
"And Cal? You broke an instructor's nose when they tried to harm Gram after knocking him out. Yes?" Gram heard from Halsey as they nodded.
Both Spartans nodded. Halsey only hummed with interest. It wasn't something that they could sneeze at. But? It was still what she expected. They were soldiers, they'd always be soldiers at the end of the day, the only issue was what they'd need to be willing to fight for now.
"I'm not mad at all." Gram stated to himself before he seemed to question. "You're both trained to fight with one another. Whatever comes next is only going to be worse at the end of the day. Still? your both soldiers, this is to be expected." Halsey stated to which both looked as of now.
It was a lot more of an interesting tale for them. Soldiers who had been on the frontlines of combat. There was more to this than usual, yet? Whatever came next before now. It had been something of an oddity before them.
It was an odd little thing that neither of them expects for now. It'd be something odd for now. Whatever he did next would be far more than either spartan could bear at the time. Their work could not be done and dusted so a while before now. What this seemed to be odd as of now? This was going to be some problem for the time. Whatever came next for now what to do next. This had been a lot more to question before it had been something for history. It had to end sooner or later.
Yet? It was a lot more of something to handle. It was another idea that could not be handled properly. The idea that both Spartans had been this inseparable had shattered the UNSC's logic.
"Spartans are expected to operate as a team, as soldiers, hunters, people who had been on the frontlines of combat," Halsey said as she turned to both Gram and Cal. "I expected some of you to find teams, John had found one, Jerome… You, Cal, seem to have found yours." Halsey added to herself more than them.
It would be a lot longer a time before either Spartan realized what their bond meant. It'd be years.
(Present day)
Gram unloaded the last shotgun shell he had into one of the elites. The cerulean-clad warrior had his chest blossom like a flower as it gurgled and then collapsed, falling off the beach. He sighed and tossed the weapon away before drawing his magnum.
"They're not going to give up the data easily, are you?" Gram stated to himself before it came down to it.
Cal continued moving forward as Gram continued to engage the rest of the Covenant soldiers for now. it'd be a lot more to question for him. He had been prepared for worse and that was obvious.
Gram continued to open fire, a pair of grunts collapsing to the floor as he swept his pistol around. He was at least surprised by all of the Covenant soldiers who had been prepared for this… The idea had a lot more merit than he considered… Yet? It didn't come close to what they were used to at the end of the day.
"Clear, for now, I'm moving to assist." Gram stated as he slid down the wreckage and landing in a crouch before he gripped his rifle.
"What's the ETA on exaction?" Gram questioned as he turned to look over his shoulder. "We need to keep going I'll hold them off," Gram added to himself before he sighed to himself.
He knew more than anything that this would be a terrible thing at the end of the day… She knew why the Spartan wanted so badly to protect the Marines and for once? She had been unable to not question what had happened before now.
She nodded and looked around, all too ready interested in what happened before now. She had been a lot more to fathom anyway. It wasn't as if she wanted it to be this way. But it would be what he dealt with this for now. Whatever came next had to be dealt with one way or another and it wasn't like she didn't also want the people here saved.
She would have laughed had it not given away her position. 3 Spartans vs an entire planetary invasion. It almost didn't seem fair to the Covenant; it might not have been to them in their twisted minds which seemed to hate them.
Well, she hated them right back, they would not scorch this planet or anything else yet. It would not go their way easily.
"Gram!" Cal yelled before the Spartan started to turn to see a Brute Chieftain charge at him and rolled to the side, their hammer crushing what had been behind him.
He had been oh so interested in what to do next. He sighed and drew his knife, knowing he'd have to fight the monster sooner or later.
It had been something he didn't understand before now when it came down to it as of now. What this came down to happening before now.
(Reach, years ago)
Gram sat in a chair with his arms crossed and looked at Cal while Chief Mendez and Halsey spoke in the next room and looked out as both of them discussed what to do next at the end of the day whatever would come next, for now, it had been an odd little thing for now, what they didn't know was what they had been up to for now. It had been something they needed to deal with.
"They're not supposed to be in this role, their soldiers, spec ops, not a hunter-killer team," Mendez stated to which Halsey waved her hands back and forth as they did so.
"They match up well enough to be a pair. Their psychological profiles balance out the other a lot better than the others." Halsey responded to which there was a frown as she pulled up the data.
"141's compassion and long-term planning match 077's ferocity and tendency to move ahead to shield his team," Halsey added to which there was a frown as they seemed to question what had been done next.
She knew more than her soldiers as to what had been done and dusted. She slowly turned to look out the window to which the two Spartans shared looks.
Gram tapped her on the arm and gestured to the window at her, both of them turned to look out the window. His face was an unreadable mess of emotion. He was greeted by a hand on his right shoulder as he turned to Cal. He nodded and looked back, tucking his feet under him as he did so. What little he did say would do more as of now, what he did know was probably something that had been a problem for now. Still? The problem had been something that needed to be done. His eyes held the gaze of a soldier who was thinking of the best way to defeat her or any problem in the way. It wasn't exactly the worst mindset for a soldier on the frontlines of combat at the end of the day. She knew he viewed her with the same eyes that one viewed an enemy.
Cal looked at them the same way a soldier who had been on many missions had been on something before now, she had been the hunter who had kept the soldier in line.
It had been a problem they needed to properly need to be defeated at the time being. He almost always seemed to view things this way, but it wasn't to be.
He seemed to be prepared for what to do next. There was oh so much more to this.
"They're both different, Chief Mendez," Halsey stated before Mendez turned. "The fact Gram decided to injure several trainers to reach Cal should tell you how well separating them will be. They're a pair. You can't have either without having both. That loyalty is admirable and it's not often you get soldiers who want to do something like this." Halsey added to which Mendez fell silent.
Gram looked at Cal, himself interested as he raised an eyebrow and flicked a thumb towards the window. He knew more that there was more to this, the curious look on his face was something countered by her hum.
She poked a calloused finger at the rest of the room to which he nodded, curious as to handle the business on their hands. He hummed and was curious when it seemed to handle when it questioned what to do, what to say.
"I have one idea… ONI wants teams that can handle ops that are based on soldiers who work together… Wolfpack units that can get the nasty work done that we can't normally get done with single-person teams." Mendez stated to which Halsey frowned.
"You want to turn my Spartans into assassins for ONI?" Halsey asked as Mendez hummed, curious as to what to do next.
"Are you going to be, ok?" Mendez stated to which both Cal and Gram watched the door open what it seemed to handle the problem.
Both were greeted by Halsey which made both of them, curious as Gram turned to Cal with a raised eyebrow as he seemed to contemplate his words.
"Gram? You and Cal will be staying together. Cal will be your team leader if that is ok with you?" Gram stated to which he hummed.
"That's fine, ma'am." Gram said as he looked at Cal. "Besides, someone has to watch her back and it's going to be me either way. I'll be fine being her teammate." Gram added as she elbowed him in the arm.
She rolled her eyes, the amusement in her eyes showing just how close they had been as friends at the end of the day.
He tilted his head, not even a little thrown off by this idea. He was a soldier; she was a soldier. If anything? It told him how much he had to do to repair things. The idea of them working side by side threw off any problems he had with this.
Gram shared a roll of his eyes with Cal as both turned to look at each other. There was a nod of approval cast between them.
"You, Arthur, Solomon, Cal?" Mendez stated as the two Spartans glanced at him. "You will both be working together as a team; Cal will be promoted. You, Gram? You are serving as her second. I want you and your squad to arrive at 5:30 in the morning. Cal? You and your team will be known as Silver, I want you to meet someone." Gram and Cal heard before he still questioned before he seemed to handle it.
Whatever he seemed to handle what to handle as of now. He seemed to question while all was said and done. He had to be prepared for the worst.
(Current day.)
Gram looked at her, all too unsure of what to do and how it'd end before now. What he had done before now wasn't preparing for now while he sighed, and questioned what to do next.
The Brute roared, unwilling to accept or care who its target was. Whatever it had been before was irrelevant. He sighed, unsure of how to properly fight back while he tilted his head.
He cracked his fingers, surging forward at the monster as he flipped over them, their hammer shattering a piece of metal behind it and allowing him to plant his knife in its back. It roared at him, rolling backward and growling at him before now. what he had been ready for now.
Cal surged forward, readying her rifle as the massive monster swung at him, trying to come and get a good shot. He knew more than anything else.
Gram dodged another swing and slammed a fist into the creature's fist, distorting it as the brute roared and spat blood, prepared to do worse when it came to as Gram dodged backward, watching as blood dripped down its throat and spilled onto the floor.
It wasn't dead, not yet, but Gram would finish it off before long. He wouldn't back down and he knew more than himself they wouldn't either.
"Get the objective. I can handle this." Gram said, balling up his fists and prepared for this.
Did they want a fight so badly? He'd not offer even a second of mercy. Whatever he did next was insane…. The brute offered him a fight and Gram answered it as any soldier would.
"That thing is a lot stronger than you," Cal added to which Gram hummed to nod as of the moment.
"We still need the data and I can distract it unless you want to try shooting," Gram responded and shrugged at her. "This is what I'm good at, Cal. I'll be fine." Gram said as he charged forward, planting a foot on the brute and flipping off as he swung, falling back onto the ground, unsure of what would happen, unsure if this beast would be the one to do him in.
Yet? He did not fully care. What he did next would be of no conscience and if he died? He died in the UNSC's deployment on the frontlines of combat. There was at least some benefit to the idea.
Still? There were a thousand problems with trying to go out swinging and he knew almost all of them down to the wire, every single little one when it came down to it. It had been that way when both Spartans had decided on the act for now.
(Reach, July 14th, 2523, 5:07 PM)
Gram spat out a glob of blood and spittle, coating the ground as he hummed, kicking the marine as he did so, he leaned on the tree, his right eye throbbing in pain, bruises up his right arm, and a cut from another marine on his other arm.
Despite this? The boy was still staying on his feet, grasping his MA37 under his arm as he prepared entirely for the next move.
"Gram?" He heard over a recovered radio. "Gram? Are you good? I saw you engage a group of Tango Company, you're good, right?" Cal questioned as he hummed.
More gunfire came through the brush. Live rounds. It was always live rounds, how blunt of Tango Company when they hated the Spartans.
"Took some scrapes, still moving. They tried to shoot me, so there's that." Gram reported as he looked around. "I can't see you, that's good. Your high up?" Gram asked as he slowly started to surge forward.
He knew they wanted him. if they got to him? They'd use him to get to Cal and if they were smart? They'd hunt him down while he was busy fighting off the rest of the enemy.
"Gram, I marked the stone next to me, you know how to find me, right?" Cal asked as Gram smirked.
"You good where you are now?" Gram asked as he slowly moved forward.
"For now, for now. I'll draw some of their fire and you cut around them. Ok? I'll be next to the rock… They don't usually get this high. Just don't do what you usually do and you're ok." Cal stated before there was a heavy clack, one which he seemed to be ready for now.
Whatever he seemed to be prepared for the worst. He knew she had his back, just like how she usually did.
What he did know was that if he didn't move? She'd end up taking down the enemy before long.
(Present day)
Gram dodged the hammer which still managed to send him flying from the impact of this. It didn't at all seem to make it that much crazier when all of this game was done and dusted. He was oh so curious before long.
He dodged another swing and kicked the Brute Chieftain back which roared at him, spittle dripping all across the floor as Gram continued to attack. He knew more than anything that these monsters were. If anything? Well, he had a lot more to question, a lot more to plan for while it seemed to be on the other foot.
Still? if he didn't keep fighting? Well, he'd probably be dead very quickly. He wasn't going to back down that easy so soon. There was just nothing to do before now. What he did notice was how silly this was going to be that easy. If anything? He wasn't going to die that easily, not here at the very least when it came down to it. There was a lot more to plan when all this was done and over with it.
He was so curious as to how this was over with. He hummed to himself while he frowned, unsure of what this monster would do if it managed to grab Cal. She was faster than him, but the Brute looked like a wall of solid muscle. He didn't see any physical way to outmatch the monster without resorting to tricks.
Luckily for him? Spartans weren't bound by the rules of engagement. That gave him a good opening to properly remove them from combat.
He rushed forward at the brute which reared the hammer back as far as possible. Did it want to crush him? Sure, but it'd need to be better, a lot better than it had been prepared for now. Is anything else? It made him laugh before now when all of this was said and done.
Gram leaped as high into the air as possible, coiling his legs as tightly as possible, throwing himself up and into the air as he did so. He twirled up and over the Brute. Their hammer crating the ground and throwing stones and rocks all over the place. He laughed, unable to properly stop this.
He landed over the brute and twisted around, launching a kick that slammed into the Brute's head, twisting it around with a crack and sending it over the edge. He panted in exhaustion and felt pain in one of his legs.
Damn it… The SOB had clipped him. Whatever happened next, if anything? He still won. The medics could deal with his bum legs. He'd recover and be back to this sooner or later. He wanted to face her properly and this wouldn't stand.
He turned to greet the rest of the Covenant as several rounds of fire told him that more Marines had survived and were giving the Covenant hell, good it seemed to be a proper fight.
He hummed to himself, unsure of whatever to do next. He sighed and scooped up a Covenant rifle, unsure of whatever he'd do next… If anything.
(Reach)
Gram watched as one of the Marines collapsed, one of the darts in their neck as they collapsed, and one of the darts in their leg as well.
Cal. She was still watching him, making sure that he was ok. He smiled as he flipped one of the darts in his fingers.
"2 more up ahead, you still good with the flag?" Gram heard as he put his hand to his ear.
"Well, I'm good. You, ok?" Gram asked before patting the flag. "Good, I'm sure I'll be good. There are still more of them… And I haven't seen Blue Team last ten minutes… It's worrying me." Gram stated while he cracked his fingers.
He was so unsure of if they'd let him live, that he'd not dodge faster than her when it came down to it.
Anything to buy Cal a few more seconds when it came down to it. if she was able to finish her mission? He'd be able to relax when it came down to her and her intentions.
(Reach)
Cal reloaded her gun and raised her SRS-99 to her arm shoulder before squeezing the trigger and putting another dart into the first marine she saw, they crumpled to the ground, unsure of what to do next.
She turned at the sound of a footstep and drew her M6G magnum only to be greeted by Gram who had his BR55 battle rifle loosely held in his hands.
"Dropped the last few. Arthur and Sol are busy handling some recon ahead." Gram said before he patted the flag on his side.
"Your wounded," Cal stated to which Gram shrugged, and prepared for the best.
"Yeah, one of them emptied almost all their rifle ammo at me and one of them got me with a baton… Solomon got cocky." Gram stated while he sighed, unsure of the best way to handle this.
"You know just because you can handle everything for the team doesn't mean you have to," Cal said as she lowered her rifle.
"Comes with being the team scout, Cal." Gram stated before he rubbed at his nose. "There are a lot more nightmares before training ends, someone has to find them before you do…. Sides, if I can't take on some damn riflemen with guns? What happens when the real meat shows up?" Gram asked and slumped down to see something coming.
He was tired and a bit threw off. their mission had been something weird when it was all done and dusted.
Cal sighed and placed her rifle to the side before starting to dress a bullet that had grazed his cheek. The marines were good, but they weren't properly fighting him or the others, they were trying to slaughter them in combat. If anything? He was focused on their mission when it seemed to.
"Are you going to be able to make it to the base?" Cal questioned as Gram nodded.
"Yeah, I'll get there. I'm too stubborn to die, remember?" Gram questioned while he raised an eyebrow at her. "There's another squad ahead. The rest of them wanted to try and mess with us at the LZ… Few snipers as well. I don't know what their plan is when we get there, I do know Sol and Arty plan to take them out." Gram said while he frowned, unsure of their problem.
Cal hummed and holstered her rifle across her back. She looked at Gram who was busy inserting a new magazine into his weapon. The boy had been deep in thought which meant something had happened, it wasn't often when Gram fell silent compared to her… Which meant something odd, a lot odder.
She cleared her throat as he turned, prepared for now, whatever the contest? He is not focused on that then all of this when it seemed to be prepared for now.
There was more to deal with either way when it seemed to be questioned what to do next before now when it came down to it when it seemed to be prepared for now when all of this was done and dusted. If anything? She summoned before she questioned what to do next when all of this was done and dusted.
Gram looked at her before he sighed, unsure of what it'd be when all of this was done and dusted. If anything? Cal would have had something going on when all of this was over with for now. I
He rubbed at the bridge of his nose and questioned what to do next. He seemed to question what had been prepared for the next move when it seemed to be prepared for now.
"Are you going to be good?" Gram questioned while he tilted his head before he slowly rose himself to his feet, unsure of what it would be or what would be brought to the table.
"I'll be fine… YOU are the one I constantly worry about when all of this is over. You constantly want to try and fight the enemy even if we're ok… We aren't going to die." Cal stated to which Gram frowned, unsure of what to tell her.
"As I said, it comes with being the scout. You're the sniper and you do your best when you have a spotter like me." Gram stated to which there was a frown.
"That doesn't mean you need to throw your life away for every single person inside the team," Cal said as she nodded towards the cliff face.
"There's still more snipers ahead, most of them think they can shoot you down the second you set yourself up." Gram said before he nodded towards the stones atop their position. "I don't know if they have more teams set up… I do know Arty is getting the Falcon we needed ready, he'll pick us up and help us deal with their pelican before we get ready for another attack… We just need to get there before daylight sets." Gram said as he frowned, cracking her fingers.
There's a lot more to be done and he knew for now which meant that there was more to have done while he seemed to contemplate his next move for the time being.
If anything? He was too interested in whatever came next. She'd be on the next level if anything else happened. Cal wasn't their team leader for nothing, she was a damn good one if he was honest.
He was probably unsure of what would be coming when it was all over with this now. There was a lot more insanity to her plans when all of this was over with… If nothing else? He'd be prepared for now while she made her next move at the end of the day.
Gram knew what he was getting into for the time being. He was none too interested in anything else if push came to shove.
They had so much more to see and do before today was done and a lot more to focus on. They had so little to focus on that for now. He was a lot more tired now.
Still? if anything? They had a lot more to focus on for now. The two-faced the cliffs, pondering their next move as of now. If there were snipers? They could be dispatched before he questioned what to do next.
He was too tired to complain about this at all. He knew she had a plan and it was to have seen when all of this was done and dusted if anything? He was not one to be thrown off by this, too unwilling to back down in the face of proper scares, he was focused entirely on this before he questioned himself.
Cal for her role said nothing. She was a soldier, she knew very well that he was only doing this to help her and she knew very well she couldn't blame him for being this way, but she could chide him for not watching his step and properly handling this. She had a lot more to do when they got there anyway and it wasn't as if she seemed to be perhaps a lot harder to swallow for now.
It just made them all too curious if nothing else, he was not to properly handle it when all of it was said and done, there was a lot more to focus on when it seemed to be over with.
If nothing else? He had a job to do and could focus his energy on that.
"I want you to tell them to keep it close by when we need it and we take care of the rest. We're handling them sooner or later." Cal said as Gram looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "I'll handle the snipers and draw their fire, your take care of the ones in the brush. We both know there's more of them to go sniff out in the swamps though and I assume your go and take care of that?" Cal ordered as Gram frowned but said nothing, unsure of what to say anyway.
He shrugged and grabbed his rifle before sliding down the hill and into the depths of the forest below. It would be a while before they managed to get down to there either single way.
Plus? The marines sucked at swamp combat which gave them an advantage when it was all said and done. They had more to properly focus on when all of it was over with.
He knew they could be properly handled on time. There was only so much they could do to stop the Spartans and it showed. A lot more was over with. They had less work to do either way.
"We're going to all be ok." Gram heard from Cal as he hummed, unsure of what next.
Gram wasn't going to take his chances with that. If anything? He was just too well-defended in this case and he wasn't going to give her an inch. There was a lot more to this decision before now. there was a lot more to question this.
He sighed and rubbed at his temples before he seemed to be handling it well. There was just too much to handle for now. Whatever he did do next? That would be a lot more to do, a lot more to defend before now.
Cal watched as Gram slowly dropped down the cliff, preparing for the best.
Still? He knew she'd be prepared for now. They had a lot more to focus on at the second. What to handle before now? He was prepared.
He sighed, yawning to himself while he slowly pulled himself to his feet, unsure of what to properly focus on now when it seemed to question before now. She seemed to what to handle while he tilted his head before now. If anything? He had the idea behind what could happen and what wouldn't happen so powerful while he questioned what would come next.
Still? He had a lot more to prepare for on before he questioned what to do next. He had a lot more to handle before now. There was a lot more to focus on before he prepared what to do next.
She wasn't going to be able to focus on their mission, but she knew more than he. She knew this mission wouldn't be easy, but she also knew that this hadn't yet crossed before now. He had a lot more to this than there was before. It hadn't yet set in anything before now.
"Get to work," Cal stated as Gram chuckled, sliding down the hill towards their enemy in question.
He had something on his mind. Something that told him just how off and how odd this all was if anything. She knew something was coming and something was brewing in the back of her mind.
This was going to be something for the books and if nothing else? She had defended the line she had made and defended the deeper one going into the bush.
Cal could hear the clack of gunfire towards Covenant as an Elite spiraled down into the hole she had fallen into. She looked around, too interested in what to research.
There were a lot more files here that told her exactly what to expect, exactly what was going on here if it'd be going on…
(Years ago, Reach.)
Gram moved forward as tracers flew over his head and he looked up to see a pair of bullets flying through the air. If anything? She was far too curious as to how this would end, how this was going to have ended.
Cal fired and another of the marines collapsed to the floor, their helmet pierced by a round from Cal's rifle, her body already in motion as she moved through the obstacle course as if she were an animal.
To the marines? She probably was one which just made Gram laugh as he realized she was far more powerful than they and capable of taking them apart with ease that almost would have bugged her if not for the fact that she had outmatched them every single time and it hadn't at all told her what was going on. Nothing was telling her what to do or what to focus upon for now. She hadn't yet found anything to stop her and she wasn't going to back down yet. There were far too many variables involved in that anyway.
Still? if anything? She was fighting through them all with the practiced ease that she had known for a while. Far too much for this to be easy.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out the next chapter will be delayed while I set up something. This chapter will almost end this mission and set up the Halo Legends chapters. The next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show both Gram and Cal fighting and leaving the planet, until then in 900-6500 words? Lighting Wolf out!
