Holly knew that Robert was very serious about this and she could not blame him. The town they knew and loved was nothing like it once was. Criminals ran around everywhere, getting away with everything. "I think you would do a marvelous job at it darling but I do worry, the mob runs wild through that town."
Robert heard Holly's concern and he understood, it would definitely take a while to clear things up but he knew he could, he also knew he wouldn't neglect Holly or their family, he had times where he didn't put her first and thought he had paid the ultimate price. There was no way in hell he would do that again. "I really think I'm the man to straighten it out or at least start to." He took her hand into his as he looked into her eyes. "Holly I promise if it starts taking up too much of my time I will stop. Nothing in this world is more important than you and our family. I never want you to doubt that you mean the world to me again, ever." Robert kissed her hand.
Holly smiled lovingly at him, she didn't for one second doubt that especially since they had reunited. She knew what he was going to give up for her son, their son. The two had a love that most people would only ever dream of. "Robert I could never question your love for me. Not after all we just went through, I was coming back to you when they got me. I know I come first and that our family comes first but you also come first to me." Holly reached out and stroked his cheek. "I want to make sure you going to be alright, it's going to take a lot of hard work and at times will be frustrating, I have no doubt you can do it but do you really want to put yourself through that?" She asked him.
Robert let it all sink in, he had been asking himself that too but what it came down to was the safety of his family. Right now Port Charles was far from safe. The past few police commissioners had let the mob run wild, Jordan made an effort as did the others but they didn't have the success like him. One of his darkest moments was when he had to confront Bert Ramsey about his mob ties, he did it though because he wanted the town to be safe. He wanted his town to be safe. "Holly I want to and I have to for our grandchildren, right now they probably look at that town and wonder why any of us bothered settling down there for the times that we did. The town deserves better."
Holly nodded and stroked his cheek again. "I do have to ask something though." She had wondered if he felt guilt for what had happened, her being kidnapped, Ethan being shot and all while the person doing it all was trying to get close to him.
"You know you can ask me anything." Robert told her as his blue eyes looked deep into her brown eyes.
"Are you feeling guilty because of what happened to myself and Ethan?" She just blurted out, She was going to try to ease into it but knew being straight forward would probably be better. "Because if so you have nothing to be guilty about. I would have trusted Diane...well if she wasn't trying to get with you." Holly honestly stated, she was standoffish when she realized how deep of a hold Diane believed she had on Robert.
"Honestly? A little but that's not the main reason I'm doing this." Robert told her, part of him would always feel guilty about trusting Diane, letting her get close and for what she had done to Holly and their son. He had every intention on trying to let it go though or at least work through it. Holly and Ethan weren't holding it against him, he needed to make peace with it.
"I just want you to know you have nothing to prove to us. You know I'll support you, you are the best commissioner Port Charles has ever or will ever know. I think you would do fantastic at it again." She smiled at him, meaning every single word she was saying.
Robert placed a kiss on her lips. "You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that. I love you." Robert wrapped his arms around Holly, pulling her close to him again. This was the life he wanted, the one with his Holly.
"I love you too." Holly kissed his chest then laid her head on his shoulder. Both of them drifted off to sleep, content with just holding each other, feeling completely at ease and at home.
