Argh! Dammit! How do even kill a ghost without magic? Let's just… be nice, not every monster attacks on sight, Toriel is proof of that…
It's kill or be killed!
That grim thought appeared in his head again.
Frisk found himself at his previous save point and took a moment to sort things out. He had a lot on his plate, he was immortal! probably!
[hey. Are you okay? You look horrible.]
Chara snapped him out of his amazement/horror. Then he repeated the "fight" only this time he chose the right options.
Except that he had died more than 5 times during that encounter.
…
"Normally I go into the ruins to avoid people, but today I met you…"
…
"I'm in the way aren't I… let me…"
Napstablook went underneath the floor before Frisk could stop him.
"I couldn't even say bye…"
Ah… I'm supposed to be a prodigy…!, I couldn't even talk my way out of a fight… he silently cried in his heart. No, I couldn't use magic, so it doesn't count, right? But it didn't seem like he was trying… sigh I will need to be creative with summoning magic…
"Why do some monsters speak, but others don't?"
[dummy, not every human speaks English either, of course, monsters have, or had a native language, English is just way easier to learn most of the time.] Chara berated him
Frisk then went to his left and saw a sign in the next room
Spider bake sale! Come eat food by spiders, for spiders, of spiders!
Prices: spider donut 7g, spider cider 18 g
"...What? That's a scam! Who would eat a donut made of spiders?!"
[eh, it's pretty fair.]
How is that FAIR IN ANYWAY?! Frisk stormed off to the next room. Inside he met 3 frogs, the first 2 were talking (croaks translated by Chara) nonsense about skipping dialogue and 4 frogs.
The last one gave useful advice.
"Human, usually when a monster has a yellow outline it means that you can spare it, what do you think about that?"
Frisk's eyes shined red, it indeed revealed a thin yellow outline on the 3 frogs if he stared long enough. He didn't bother to use mana since his innate magic was unusable in the underground. Oddly enough, he could see that he had a red outline for some reason.
It was never there before…
"That… I didn't notice that! Thanks so much! That was helpful!" 2 fluffy white ears appeared above his head, making the other pair disappear, along with a wagging tail.
"Well, I was glad to be of help, remember, sparing is just not fighting on your part, perhaps you will have to do so even when they aren't yellow. " the Froggit croaked.
Ring!
Oh! It's Toriel!
"Hello, my child?"
Frisk told her about how he traveled a bit without her permission, but instead of angry, she was amused.
" oh? You are more capable than you let on."
Is that an insult or a compliment? I died multiple times… he inwardly cried while Chara was laughing her ass off. Bit's of fluffy ears that were red with embarrassment popped out of Frisk's head.
"Say, do you prefer cinnamon or butterscotch?" Toriel asked.
"I love butterscotch!" Frisk loved sweet things.
"But you wouldn't put your nose up for cinnamon right?"
"I'm fine with cinnamon, but I never got a strong impression from it. " Frisk answered truthfully.
"Well…I would love to ask you to stay where you are but I have some-"
"Bark Bark!"
"Give that back!"
"Click"
…
What?
"Uhm what was that?" Frisk tried to ask Chara.
[HAHAHAHA!]
God dammit…
!
[loox drew near]
[flee!]
That was the scariest creature he had seen! And he had seen royalty!
Frisk ran as fast as possible, until he tripped onto the next room, rolling into a patch of leaves.
He fell to a bed of roses
"Huff, huff…"
[haha! scaredy cat! You got afraid of a harmless guy!]
"I thought monsters were semi-animalistic, like the Froggit, or Toriel. WHAT WAS THAT THING?!" he quickly stood up and looked for a way out.
In front of him, however…
Was a carrot with a smile plastered on its face, it started moving
[!]
[flee!]
Nope nope nope nope nope!
White ears appeared on top of his head and a tail that was tucked between his legs also formed.
Frisk left and decided to take a break. He was scared out of his wit.
Seeing the terrified Frisk, Chara cleared her ethereal throat.
[don't you have a goal? What are you even scared of? You're immortal anyways!] she tried to cheer up!
I don't wanna die! He inwardly complained, but he knew that Chara was right, eventually, he steeled himself and went to read how to solve the puzzle.
After checking the pitfalls he found a switch and a faded ribbon, he felt mana inside of it.
"Wow! Look it has some mana inside of it! Maybe it's enchanted!"
[eh, probably not, if you wear an item enough during battles it will naturally have more defense.]
What?! I've never heard of this before! Usually, royals and the church recommend the opposite so that your valuables don't break…
He indeed sensed a little bit of mana, along with something else he couldn't put to words…
He eventually made a bow tie, it looked extremely out of place with his shorts and striped shirt, but he felt a thin layer of mana enveloping him.
He continued towards the next room, he read the sign which said to hit the blue switch, weirdly enough, he wasn't ambushed this time.
In the next room, however…
!
[whimsun approaches meekly!]
It… doesn't seem too scary.
He hit the [check] button
[This monster is too sensitive to fight…] Chara said with a twitch in her eye.
Suddenly moths the size of his body surrounded him but didn't hurt him
Maybe it's a stretch to call this a fight…
Frisk tried to console the guy.
"He-"
[you won!]
[0 exp, 0 gold]
He ran away, is that what I looked like? Monsters also seem to be scared of me… that's a little comforting, maybe I can get out of here fast.
[you are two peas in a pod!]
Like you and Napstablook Frisk said in his mind, afraid that she would haunt his dreams or something. She wasn't as simple as she let out, every time he tried to see her soul he saw nothing she was hiding her soul since everyone had one!
Seeing souls without permission was considered taboo, so he expected such a level of resistance
He found a Froggit again, they seemed to be friendly towards him for some reason.
"Ribbit"
[between me and you… Toriel came out with groceries, I was too intimidated to ask what they were for though.]
Curiosity got the better of him and he went the wrong way to see the scenes
He continued without many problems, eventually finding an unusually sturdy toy knife. And mostly vacant Ruins of a once illustrious city.
He suddenly got an idea.
Normally summoning happens with anything that has Mana, so coating something with magic makes it summonable for a week. But what if I continuously use magic on the air, or rather, the air inside my palm?
He clasped his hands together and coated the space between them with mana, making his hands become surrounded by a red aura, he continued until his inventory was full of air. Once he released it all at once…
Psh!
He was disappointed heavily, he only made a small breeze.
[hahahahaha!]
On his way to the next path, a jeering laugh accompanied him.
