AN: sorry for the loose schedule, hope you understand that I write when I have time and inspiration. Anyways

...

Deep in the woods of snowdin…

[im going to attempt to make you comprehend circle magic.] Chara said dismissively.

"!" Frisk had mixed emotions...

Circle magic is strictly forbidden unless you are a noble. He couldn't use it outside unless he became a noble, but here it would be incredibly useful!

Circle magic is all about preparation. It is hard to cast and it is often more of a ritual. However, it has many applications among nobles. In particular, a magic circle is often the emblem, which has the actual function to defend their residences.

"Hah, if those old mages can do it, so can I!"

Chara began teaching circle magic.

[The most important part of circle magic is to make a circle with no gaps unless you want to make it explode that is. After that, it's all up to you.]

"Huh? What about the symbols?" Frisk could remember that there usually were 2 overlapping circles instead of one. In between them were symbols.

[that's for later, for now, try to fill a circle with mana]

Frisk complied-

Boom!

[hahaha!]

So that's why she wanted to teach me… Frisk's face was filled with snow after the circle he drew exploded.

[oh man! This is going to be the funniest month ever!] Chara's jeering didn't help him.

It took him 3 days for the basics to be mastered, but he didn't get too much mana or too little inside a well-drawn circle. Now…

[ok, now you have to make another circle and then you add whatever symbols you like.]

"Eh? Anything I like? Aren't symbols supposed to have a meaning?"

[of course, but it has to be your meaning, otherwise it would only work for the one who gave it meaning. These symbols are called regalia.]

This… could it be? Circle magic is said to be originated from the royal family, and the symbols that are used have meaning, though we commoners don't know it… could circle magic be the key to becoming a king or lord of a territory? Such thoughts roused thoughts of establishing a kingdom. But he quickly shook his head.

[oh, also, once you create your regalia, you can't change them, so choose wisely~] Despite saying helpful advice, the condescending tone got under his skin.

Think back… the only 2 times I've ever seen circle magic was when Princess Audrey beat Flowey and when… Toriel used it, she's probably Royalty… I should treat her with more respect next time.

He said "Next time" because the regalia tournament already passed…

"Oh…" Frisk realized that they chose talented mages to become nobles to keep them in check. "Can I ask the common ways magic circles can be used?" Frisk asked the ghost.

[no can do!]

"You're having way too much fun at this," he mumbled, 2 wolf ears grew as he became focused on the dilemma in front of him. Once he added a symbol he couldn't take it back,

I… feel weird…

"Woof! Woof?" he glanced at himself and then turned back. "Well, here goes nothing…"

In between the circles, he drew his First regalia. For this moment his blessings and curses did not exist, and neither did Chara, the underground, or anything else. Frisk was surrounded by darkness. Frisk started drawing a heart that was connected to another heart with rags. The second heart in particular had a crack in the middle.

I should make magic I don't regret having. This is the perfect start for this, magic that helps me look for my mom. Magic that will let both of us know that we're safe.

The first symbol was created.

Frisk tried to draw the circle with the symbol, but it didn't do anything, he tried filling the gap between the circles with the symbol but nothing happened.

what? He felt frustrated. Why does nothing work inside here?!

[...?] Chara's laughing increased. [hey, don't sweat it, I knew I knew I'd win because you can't use circle magic inside the underground.]

"... liar," Frisk replied

[what? Look, maybe you can create symbols… but actually, using circle magic? Not possible, it's mostly because mana can't move in certain ways inside the underground. It's the same reason you can't use innate magic, or most of them anyway.]

Frisk couldn't deny that. But he felt like he was going somewhere.

On the plus side, I know how to make smoke bombs inside the underground. Sigh, I feel like all I can do is small tricks… well it all depends on how I use them.

"So even if I had it done perfectly I still wouldn't be able to show you circle magic…"

[say it!]

"... your ancient magic is better than mine," Frisk admitted, though he was in a foul mood. "Honestly, I thought you'd teach me this so-called personal magic," he complained, he turned into a pup and went back towards Sans' house. 'As he got there…

Clank, clank, clank, clank.

Heavy steps that not even the snow could muffle were heard throughout snowdin. Frisk hurried toward the house, but it seemed like fate was toying with him.

"Papyrus open up!" the knight clad in armor shouted, then it looked towards Frisk and away.

Frisk sighed out of relief-

[dodge!]

!

Frisk tried to jump out of the way, but spears came out of the ground, sending him off course.

[undyne takes a stab in the dark!]

"Ha! Crafty human, turning into a dog to up on me? Think AGAIN!"

Water spears! Frisk tried running away in fear, only to stop in his tracks. His body felt fine, but he just couldn't get away from where he was. Another spear was thrown at him, it stabbed a hind paw.

"Is this all humans amount to?"

[quick, reset!] Chara said, but even if he wanted to, he

Frisk turned back into a human. "How did you know?" he asked to avoid her.

"my eye is pretty good." Undyne threw the last spear, only to be blocked by a bone.

"Undyne? What's happening here?" Sans appeared, giving Frisk a chance to escape. Without hesitation, he bolted out.

[yes!]

I'm not safe yet-

Shank!

..

.

"!"

"So… this pup will stay… at our house?!" Papyrus exclaimed.

Frisk decided that it was a good idea to hide from Undyne. Thus he stayed in as much as possible for 2 weeks.

"You've been quiet bud, perhaps you like living like a house pet?" Sans joked around, but Frisk simply replied. "Sans, why do monsters want to capture humans? I really just want to leave…"

Sans joking stopped. " I dunno, I'm just a sentry who likes to doze off."

[he's lying] Chara narrowed her ethereal eyes. [you remember what he said in the corridor before you met Asgore… ]

"Sigh…"

Frisk continued showing himself in front of Papyrus and narrowly (easily) escaping his puzzles for the next 2 weeks. Afterward, he ran past any monster that might want to slow him down. He stopped to catch his breath near a water cooler and then carried on.

He quickly found himself in a corridor with Sans in the middle of it.

"I guess you're a really good sentry huh?" Frisk joked, but Sans just started talking.

"...this is probably the end of your journey. What lies ahead depends on you."

"I probably will see you again… my goals were not completed this time around. " Frisk replied even though he knew that Sans would forget. "I need to figure out how to go away faster…" muttered. "I'm sorry, but my goals are more important than your circumstances."

Sans let him go without saying anything else. His expression seemed to be dark.

1 butterscotch pie later…

"This is the end…" Frisk raised the gardening knife and struck at the fallen king, gaining his soul with some help from Chara. However, she never spoke another word or showed herself once he killed asgore.

As expected, it's all related, but it's none of my business. More importantly, I need to know… where is my mother?

Frisk went back to the kingdom and covered himself in white robes, bought a compass for "magic stuff" and left. He marked 2 circles on the compass and filled it with heart symbols.

"Please work…" Frisk prayed. Then, the compass changed direction! He looked around to make sure he wasn't followed. He caught a pigeon and made it his summon. He returned to the outskirts of the kingdom and followed the compass.

Ah, a beast is up ahead. Let's kill it silently… with Jack's magic, he saw through the pigeon and twisted it with telekinesis.

"What…? Another one… I'm not that far from the Kalo kingdom." he gulped as he repeated the same process as before.

Frisk continued to travel around the beast-infested forest after 5 days, he covered more ground than he would have on a horse, and the combination of a blessed body and telekinesis to make his body lighter made it so that he didn't get as tired. It was not until the compass started turning direction that he began to rest.

He set up a fireplace in a clearing, sadly there was no such thing as a tent since it would raise suspicions, the kingdom walls were not big enough to have a forest inside them.

Before long, a snake the width of a tree attacked him, but he was prepared for it. He couldn't harm its scales so Frisk instead targeted the eyes and tongue. Letting him escape.

"Sigh, who would've thought such a beast was around here? This could've been disastrous to the civilians!" Frisk couldn't help but complain, 50% percent of mages were noble, the other 40% were servants to nobles and 10% were truly commoners. If a threat appeared in the kingdom, he wondered how many civilians would get hurt.

He traveled for 5 more days and the compass started getting more sensitive to where he moved.

"Woah!" Frisk stopped himself from falling as he reached a cliff. Upon looking better, he stumbled upon a canyon, and at the bottom of it was a skulk of fox beasts. On the other side of the canyon were many soldier tents.

"That… that's the royal army!" he couldn't help but feel excited, they were the best of the best when it came to magicians. The king of kalo personally recruited them. Truthfully speaking, nobody else had much business so far away from the kingdom, except for Frisk of course.

The sun is setting, but the compass is shaking like crazy! I'll find her before this day is over. Naturally, he was overjoyed, if this compass worked, he would meet his mother!

The compass pointed to the canyon, he got the gardening knife, imbued it with mana and telekinesis to cut through stone, and used it to descend slowly. Once he got down he followed the compass dutifully.

..

.

"Huh?" Frisk found himself in the corridor again. T-this! Did this "save" malfunction or something?

[oh? How did you die?] Chara non-chanlantly.

I died… without noticing?! This made him realize, the canyon was way too dangerous!
