"Ah…" Frisk paced around the long corridor. He didn't understand why he died, hell, he didn't know if he really died, but magic couldn't activate itself without conditions. There was always a "trigger"
For example, even the Goddess of hate couldn't throw curses willy-nilly (when she's not paying attention), her role in the world is to "warn" foolish mages. By cursing them, these people would abstain from experimenting with humans. More extreme examples would be cursing anyone who killed a devout believer of the goddess. Those were particularly nasty.
"It is probable that I stepped into a magic trap that killed me so fast I couldn't even react…" Frisk frowned, so close, yet so far. Now that he had the means of tracking her mother, he had to grow faster
[with your type of insight, I thought you were self-taught.]
"I am, so what?" he eyed the ghost playfully, in his opinion, even if he didn't win the bet, he still learned Chara's magic circle easily.
"Hey bud, you okay?" Sans
"!" Frisk's face flushed. He had a little habit of speaking out loud on the surface to try to get Chara to respond. Now Sans saw his behavior.
"Hehe." Frisk could swear that he saw Sans's grin grow even wider. "I guess you could say…
"Don't-"
"Alright," Sans replied. "But the next one will be twice as cheesy."
I want to reset… but I want to see if I can find something useful on my way back from this corridor, if I die I'll reset.
"I'm going back for something, see you," Frisk said. "Perhaps if the pun is not on me, I'd laugh at it more," Frisk suggested as he walked away. As he walked, Frisk inspected the heart locket, it was brimming with mana, and whoever owned probably wore it every day. Similarly, the weeding knife had been used for years.
[so, what changed Mr. Homesick?] Chara asked. [I thought you wanted to go to the surface as fast as possible.]
"My goals are beyond simply leaving fast, thanks to you, I now know the location of someone important, but it seems that she's being guarded by something-"
[so a damsel in distress is being guarded by a dragon and you want to save her? How romantic~] Chara teased.
"-And frankly I already ran out of options on the surface, sure, I could probably rise slowly through my efforts, but… I'm not sure if she's going to live that long." Frisk continued as if Chara didn't speak as he traveled through the grey scenery.
In terms of strength, I'm good enough to fight a full-fledged commoner mage, Jack's a special case since he's a noble, this coupled with his innate magic and intellect ability allows him to be ahead of the average mage.
Frisk was still a young mage with a promising future. He had the blessing of the god of love, making him as strong as an adult person. Compared to a full-fledged mage, he was still lacking in wisdom, it was his truth that he could potentially overpower a mage physically, but the likelihood of doing so wasn't very high.
Meanwhile…
"..." Emil looked around, Amanda was deep asleep, he carried her to a separate room, went out of his territory, and went into an island that was made from clouds. He cleared his throat and waited until Frisk stopped talking to himself.
…
[...and that's what an elevator is.]
"That is very interesting, how advanced is magic technology in the underground?" Frisk praised as he entered the elevator.
Ding!
Once the doors opened he saw heaven.
"!" the scene was majestic, he touched the ground, which was clouds, and saw something that could not be described by words.
"Do you seek strength?" despite speaking softly, Frisk felt overwhelmed.
Seeing the appearance of a god is not something for the untrained, hence, Frisk saw the figure of her mother, without detailed facial features, greeting him in the clouds.
"..." Frisk gulped as he nodded. "This… I am honored to meet your eminence…"
"No matter, if you seek strength, what are you willing to sacrifice?" the god of love spoke.
"I am more than willing to put down my li-"
"No, you are my blessed one, I wish longevity for you." Emil interrupted.
"..." Frisk put himself into deep thought.
If not my life, what can I sacrifice? I have nothing to my name that can entice a god.
"it seems you are not sure, how about you slay beasts in my name?"
"Huh…? Aren't beasts a trial made by you?" Frisk was confused.
"They are not, that hateful Amanda, she never learns..." for the first time, god didn't seem as omnipotent as before.
"I will slay beasts in your name!" Frisk declared.
"Very well"
He sent Frisk out of heaven. Then he started laughing. "Hahaha! The moment he does this… he'll do a 'sin', after enough sins he'll start caring less about that dumb mother of his!" Emil couldn't wait until he and Frisk started a war again.
…
The next moment, Frisk was still in the elevator.
"..." Frisk was speechless
[hey, hey! Are you still there? Why did you doze off?] Chara was not aware of what had happened.
"I saw god," Frisk said plainly, he did not expect Chara to believe him, who would? "I… need to slay beasts…" Before Frisk went any further he went back to the last corridor by killing himself.
"...this is probably the end of your journey. What lies ahead depends on you."
Frisk went ahead and defeated Asgore and absorbed his soul.
"Hah… this time it'll be different, right?" Frisk tried to ask Chara but the latter didn't appear. "Sigh… sorry about Asgore, it's not like I want to kill him, it's just that it's the only way to leave the underground." Frisk apologized to nobody.
Frisk did not dilly-dally around the kingdom, he stole supplies at night and left the kingdom. While waiting till midnight, he copied someone's innate wind magic. It allowed him to create weapons out of the wind.
This time the travel was more extended, Frisk couldn't make himself lighter with telekinesis and thus needed to rest more. Furthermore, he stopped and started hunting small beasts.
"It's incredible…" Frisk felt that his mana and stamina were much more. He could also faintly feel the presence of the beasts. He felt like he could beat anybody! "No, I must be careful, I need to gain as much strength as possible to make sure I can save my mother."
Frisk continued to slay more beasts, slowly, the population was dwindling, he stopped once he couldn't control his mana. He spent the next 3 days re-adjusting in order not to harm his body. Frisk followed the compass with the family bond symbol and ran like the wind!
…
..
.
Fox Beast Canyon, 20xx
"..." Frisk walked calmly as the compass guided him. Before, he couldn't do anything about this, but now he noticed that he was caught in an illusion, it was because he could feel the presence of multiple beasts.
He didn't use his eyes, instead, he felt the mana in the air to make quick work of the foxes.
The compass now pointed at some sort of cave.
" mage Usunn! Respond if you're able!" Frisk shouted, but nobody came. "...Mom! I know you're here!"
Frisk continued to venture deeper into the cave and eventually found somebody.
Thud
Frisk rushed and tried to give first aid. Rather than somebody it was a body which had died not long ago.
"..." he looked at the compass and confirmed that it was an illusion! The compass was still moving.
What? A fox beast is smart enough to understand human speech? Scary… Frisk followed the compass but found nothing. Hmm? The compass turned around.
He turned around and looked at a wall. He passed through an illusion and finally found…
"What the…" Frisk raised his dagger, and he saw a huge fox the size of a horse, its fur was white and purple at the tip of the ears, paws, and tail, and its presence was imposing. It pounced on Frisk!
