At Midtown High…
Peter was catching up with his friends, Gwen, and Harry as they began to head inside.
While Peter was on the adventure of the hero and self-discovery of his powers with Eddie, his friends were on their own adventures. For Gwen Stacy, she was at science summer camp, enjoying nature and learning the ecosystems of life while studying more about the facts of life. Harry on the other hand was touring the world with his father on different business trips. Peter wanted to tell them the amazing things that he has gone through and his powers, but Eddie made it clear Pete couldn't tell anyone about them, not even his Aunt May. If he wanted to keep the people in his life safe, then he needed to hide what he can do.
Now, Peter has come out as someone who likes men and women, though it took a lot of courage to do so. Peter has his eyes on Sally for quite some time as he was a boy with a type, blonds were the most darling, though he would never admit that to Eddie. His brother would never hear the end of it. He knew that he was a nerd, and she is a cheerleader. But it wouldn't hurt to try.
"Pete, take my advice, don't test the waters. You know we're nerds and Sally is a cheerleader. They just don't blend." Harry warned with a smile as he knew things would go badly.
He commends Petey's bravery at times, but he should know what boundaries to cross and not. He doesn't have Eddie anymore at school to protect him.
"Maybe, but it's worth a try."
Peter then approached the blond on her phone, nervous and shy.
"H-hey Sally." Peter stuttered trying to be less geeky, it was not working out for him.
"What do you want, Puny Parker?" She sneered at him, causing him to flinch a bit but not to retreat, he will try.
"I-I was just wondering… if-if you would like to go out sometime," Peter asked, trying to keep his nerve together.
There was that one moment of silence before it turned into laughter. It hurt; it really did.
"Yeah, like I would date a nerd like you. Sorry Petey, but I'm with a real man, Rand." She announced all high and mighty when speaking of the devil, the football player appeared.
Randolph Robertson was not like the other football players. Though a jock he is, he was the kindest person Peter has ever met.
"I am so sorry-." Peter tried to apologize but Rand had no malice and knew Peter meant no harm.
"It's alright, you didn't know. Though you're pretty bold to ask, I like that. It's nice for you to come out of your shell more." Rand complimented as it made Peter blush then the jock ruffled his hair.
Peter was cute, strangely cute even for most people. After he started to change, no more glasses and new attire, it made him even cuter than he was before. Even made a few girls jealous.
"Come on, Rand, let's not get infected with dweeb." Sally scoffed as she dragged her boyfriend away.
Peter sighed as they left. That could've gone better or worse. But he was glad he didn't get physically hurt.
At Oscorp…
"Man, I can't believe you tried to ask out Sally and tried to stand up to Flash. You're nuts man. But hey, it must be your nutty nature that got you an internship interview at ESU." Harry grinned at his friend as he patted him on the back, "You're a sure thing. After all, you are the son of the great Richard Parker. Who wouldn't want to employ you?"
"Yeah, I mean if I get an internship, then there's a chance for my aunt and me. We could get out of debt and have better lives." Peter answered as he saw an opportunity for him and his family.
"Pete, are things really that bad? If you guys need money, maybe-."
"No, we can't ask for money, it wouldn't be right."
"Well said, Mr. Parker." A voice from behind praised as the boys turned to see Norman Osborn, the owner of the company, "Though I would have been more than happy to provide to such a valuable soul such as yourself, I can see a young man who is determined and can find his own way."
"T-thank you, Mr. Osborn. Sorry for dropping in so unexpectedly."
"Never apologize, Peter. I never do." He advised with a smile.
Harry felt a prang of jealousy inside him. To Norman, Peter was the son he always wanted, what Harry couldn't be. He would always come second place to Petey, even when he tries his hardest. Everything was handed to Pete, even things he didn't want that Harry craves. True, it wasn't Petey's fault that he was the object of his father's affections, but it didn't make it sting any less.
"You are quite a bold young man. You didn't hide your affections or any you shouldn't be ashamed of. You want something, you would work for it. All the world can be yours if you just simply take it." He informed the boy, "Just take it, Peter and you can change the world as the way you want it."
"Thanks, I'll remember that…"
After the Vulture incident days later…
Eddie hated to see his little buddy so blue.
"Pete, you shouldn't be thinking about jobs right now, you should keep your head in on school. Leave the finances to your aunt and if things get bad, I can pitch in." He advised the boy, "This is why your aunt couldn't tell you."
Petey couldn't get any money for his family as an intern, and he had no luck as a photographer for the paper.
"I know, I know. But Eddie, I'm worried. What if she works herself to death?" Peter fretted as Eddie continued to look over the boy while stitching the clothing.
"Things will be okay, Bro. Just need a little faith. For now, tell me anything new that has happened to you. Have you been experiencing any changes?" Eddie wondered.
"Other than me tangling with a birdman?"
"Other than that."
"Well, I saw colors. New colors that I've never seen before. It started happening when Mr. Osborn got grabbed."
"Looks like another new ability. It's didn't just fix your sight but enhanced them in ways we couldn't even guess."
"So, what do we do with this. I mean, we're both smart, but maybe-."
"No, we need to keep this to ourselves. It's better that fewer people know. Pete, don't worry about this, just leave looking into your powers to me, okay? I won't let anything bad happen to you."
