The Daily Lives of the Owl Familia: P2:
The Egg on the shelf

Summary: While taking a tour of the Owl House, Camila noticed something in her daughter's room.

Timeline: A few hours after Camila and Vee moved to the Demon Realm.

"And this is my room," a bashful Amity said as she opened the door to her room.

Camila, a sleeping King in her arms, studied the room and concluded that the room suited her future daughter-in-law; the room had a certain sense of order to it, but the human could tell there was something deeper to it, just like Amity.

The human studied the room for a minute before she turned her attention to her daughter. Luz took the hint and went to the door to the left of Amity's room.

"And this is King's room," Luz said eagerly.

She thrust open the door, and Camila couldn't help but gush at the sight; plush toys covered nearly every inch of the room. She made a face when she noticed the monster in one corner. She tried to put her unease aside as she walked into the room and up to the toddler bed.

She put King in his bed and tucked him in. She kissed him on the head and giggled when the young titan mumbled something she couldn't quite make out.

She left King to his sleep and gently closed the door. With that matter settled, the group turned their attention to the next door down the hall.

"And this-" Luz announced dramatically, "Is my room!"

She tried to open the door with some flare, but this caused the door to get stuck. Luz let out a sheepish laugh as her face flushed slightly. She tried to open the door again but still found it stuck.

Camila and Eda both shook their heads, and they moved to help. Camila took her daughter by the shoulders and gently led her away from the door as Eda stepped to the handle. She gently pulled the door in and then pushed out.

Luz's face reddened as her witch mother opened the door without a problem.

"Ahh, Mija," Camila quipped good-naturally, "You really must learn not to get so excited."

Luz's face was so red by this point it was a wonder why steam wasn't coming out of her ears. The Familia got a good laugh out of the scene, and Luz soon joined in. The group calmed down after a minute, and Camila looked into the room.

The human adult smiled fondly as she took in her daughter's room. This room fitted Luz so well; there were even Azura bed sheets. She scanned the room for a more thorough investigation and frowned when she saw something.

It was a blue egg. The egg was wrapped in blankets and what appeared to be a heating lamp above it. Camila studied the egg for a second and then looked at Luz.

"Mija," the human adult asked softly, "What's that egg?"

Luz looked at the egg on the shelf, and her smile shrunk slightly as the light in her eyes dimmed.

"Oh," Luz said melancholically, looking at her mother. "That's my Palisman egg."

"Palisman…" Camila echoed to herself.

She looked at the witches and remembered getting an explanation after asking about the animal each had. She didn't miss the sad look that crossed Luz's face as the witches were explaining both Palismen and the bond beasts that Eda and Lilith had.

She looked at the egg again. She looked at her daughter and then at Eda when she saw the sadness in Luz's eyes. The ex-wild witch gave the human a look that told her they would talk after the kids had gone to bed.

Camila accepted that answer and looked at her daughter with a smile.

"Well, let's get on with the tour," she cheerfully said.

Luz didn't do anything for a moment; she was looking at her egg again. Camila was getting worried and moved to comfort her daughter. She was reaching for Luz's shoulder when she looked at her mother with a smile.

"Yeah, let's do that," Luz said, forcing a happy face. "Next up is Mama Eda's room, and you'll love it, Mami!"

Luz hummed a tune as she went farther down the hall. Every member of the Familia looked at her with concern but followed her after a second.

Camila lingered for a moment longer. She looked back at her daughter's egg and frowned. There was a story behind the egg. But she decided to let leave it for another time.

She learned that if she tried to force things out of her daughter, it doesn't end well.

So, with a sigh, she hurried after her new family. She tried to enjoy the tour again, but her thoughts kept returning to the egg and its story.
