The Daily Lives of The Owl Familia:
The Sisters Talk

Summary: Camila had settled into the Owl house, and her thoughts returned to the egg she saw in Luz's room.

Timeline: Six days after Camila and Vee moved to the Demon Realm.

Camila couldn't sleep, and it wasn't because of the night critters. She was a vet and used to different noises. No, what was keeping her up was the egg she saw on her daughter's shelf.

She knew there was a story behind it, but she decided to wait for Luz to tell her. However, with Camila settled into her new home and the hunt for a job over (she really needs to thank the beast-keeping teacher for the recommendation), her thoughts had returned to it.

She turned over and looked at her new room. It wasn't yet decorated; however, a picture of Camila's family was on the stand. The human smiled fondly and then sighed.

She got out of bed and put on a robe. She knew she wouldn't be getting to sleep any time soon. So, she figured she would make some tea she brought from the human realm. She left her room and decided to check on her daughters before heading downstairs.

She smiled when she found Vee sleeping soundly. It looked like the basilisk found comfort in her new home, which made Camila happy. That happy mood was lost when she checked on Luz.

The human witch was curled up in a ball. She was also hugging her egg tight to her chest, and her coverings were nearly off her. The human mother could see that Luz was having a bad dream because of how she was positioned.

So, Camila tiptoed into the room and gently moved her daughter into a more comfortable position. She then kissed her daughter's forehead and, for good measure, kissed the egg. Luz seemed to sense her mother's presents and relax somewhat.

"Mami," Luz muttered, and this caused Camila to smile.

"I'm here, Mija," Camila whispered, more to herself, "And I wouldn't leave you again."

Camila left Luz's room and made her way to the kitchen. She wasn't that surprised to find Eda and Lilith up, both with drinks in their hands. The two witches looked at her, and Lilith nodded. Camila returned the gesture and then set about making her tea.

Five minutes later, the trio of mothers was all seated at the table and awkwardly drinking their drinks. After another minute, Eda set her Apple-blood down and looked at the human with a forced grin.

"So, it seems I'm not the only mama who can't catch some shuteye tonight?" the bard witch said, trying to joke to break the ice.

Lilith and Camila looked at Eda when she began to laugh awkwardly, and she stopped. She grabbed her mug and took a long drink from it. The three lapsed back into silence and just drank their drinks.

Finally, after nearly two minutes of silence, Camila sighed and put her mug on the table. This caught the sisters' attention, and they looked at the human mother.

"May I ask something?" Camila asked hesitantly.

Lilith nodded slowly and put on a (hopefully) warm smile. Camila tried to smile, but it was more forced than anything else. She took a minute to collect and organize her thoughts.

"What's the story behind the egg?" the human asked slowly.

The Sisters' faces fell, and for a second, Camila thought she touched a sore subject. For a minute, the three sat in tense silence, and Camila's fears were growing by the second. Finally, Lilith sighed and looked the human in the eyes.

"This isn't something we should be telling you without Luz present," Lilith said calmly and sighed. "But given what happened, I don't think she's still completely comfortable about it."

She sighed again and picked up her mug. She took a long drink so she could get her thoughts in order. She didn't want what she would say to come out wrong.

"During our meeting a few days ago, I got the feeling that you sensed we were withholding details, correct?" Lilith asked slowly, and Camila nodded. "Well, one thing we kept from you because we felt Luz should have been the one to tell you this was the impact Philip Wittlebane had on my, uh-"

Lilith looked at the human mother uncertainly, and after a moment of confusion, Camilia smiled.

"It's alright…sister," The human spoke warmly.

Lilith smiled weakly at her new sister and continued.

"When my niece learned how she helped Philip with his goals, it took a toll on her mind," Lilith spoke slowly. "I fear if Amity weren't by her side, Luz would probably be in worse shape than she is."

Lilith couldn't help but smile nostalgically; she recalled the night before the Familia left for the human realm. Luz had nearly had a panic attack because she was so stressed about what her mother would think of everything. Thankfully, Amity was there to comfort and calm her down.

Lilith sighed and finished her tea before she continued.

"The worse part is I think, in his twisted mind, Philip believed he was trying to save Luz," the ex-head witch spoke softly. "During their final confrontation, Philip tried to tell Luz he wanted to save her from the horrors of the Demon Realm."

"Oh please," Eda scuffed, "The only thing that tool cared about was being the hero of his lame story."

The ex-wild witch leaned back in her chair as she placed a hand over his forehead dramatically.

"Oh, woe is me, I have found a pure maiden, and if I don't act, this vile land will destroy her soul," Eda said in a cheesy dramatical voice.

Lilith shook her head at her sister's theatrics and then looked at Camila.

"Nonetheless, Philip's words and actions had effect Luz in a way that some lingering doubts remain. It's not much, but I feel like those doubts are blocking her efforts in connecting with her Palisman."

"And…the bad dreams she has sometimes don't help," Eda muttered louder than she planned.

Suddenly, they heard Luz scream, and the trio of mothers were on their feet in a second. They hurried to the second floor and Luz's room to see if they could do anything to help their special little girl.
