"So what's up with you?" Tommy asked, leaning against a set of shelves.
"Nothing much, just trying to save the world you know?"
"Yep, I remember back in my day..."
"I would like to remind you that I was alive 'back in your day,' the last time you were active was two years ago."
"He has a point there Handsome."
"So you just going to hang out here until Toby gets the chest open?" Tommy asked.
"Probably, Toby doesn't really have a way to contact us, so… yeah."
"Hey, Nick?" a voice hissed out from the corner, "Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Xander," Nick explained, "What's wrong?"
"It's getting worse, I thought you said that it will go away."
"Look I don't really know what is going on and I don't know anyone with the same powers as you so..."
"I think it might have something to do with Clare's perfection potion."
"What perfection potion?"
"The one she was using on a bunch of flowers."
"You used a potion meant for flowers, no wonder you're in this mess, hopefully Udonna can solve it before Toby gets the chest open."
…
Saving Xander was rather anticlimactic, Udonna had created an antidote potion and sprayed it on Xander as he was finalizing turning into a tree. In fact everything seemed to calm down a bit from there. Sure there was an attempt to take the Fire Heart, but Xander learned a new spell code and sent them packing.
Finally after all the stress of Vida turning into a vampire and Xander almost turning into a tree, they had it, the fire heart, which was…
"An Egg?"
"Not just any egg, Chip, a dragon egg."
"But dragons went extinct in the Americas centuries ago."
"Apparently an egg survived."
"So how do we hatch it," Vida asked, peering at the large red egg.
"You leave hatching the egg to us," Udonna insisted.
…
It was a quiet day, for that Nick was grateful, with everything that had happened in the last few days he really needed a chance to relax and unwind, so he kind of groaned when he got a text from Chip who claimed that he saw Toby get carried off by Necrolai.
"That's something you don't hear everyday, and I was raised by power rangers," Nick muttered to himself as he raced to the rescue on his new motorcycle.
The battle was confusing, Nick would admit that much, not so much that Necrolai was attacking them, but because Necrolai was more focused on Toby than them, going on and on about the Gatekeeper.
"Wait a minute, Gate Keeper?" Nick asked, "As in a member of the Keeper Family? According to my aunt the last one died… When I was an infant."
"Yet her Child lives."
"And you think it's Toby? Gosh, I guess Dad was right about henchmen being dimwitted."
…
"Necrolai was looking for the Gate Keeper," Nick informed Udonna as he entered Rootcore, "But Aunt Star said that the Gate Keeper was killed sixteen years ago. Why would she be looking for a dead Keeper."
"Your Aunt was not the first Story Keeper, was she?"
"No, she inherited the title from her Grandfather."
"Exactly just like my older sister, Niella inherited the title from our father, and just like Clare will inherit the power once she is ready to, not before hand."
"Then we better keep her safe," Nick insisted, glancing at Udonna, "You still have Gate Keeper's… I don't know what it is, I know that Dad somehow got the Dreamcatcher from the Dream Keeper, and I know that the Pen of Power is used by the Story Keeper."
"Story Keeper, Gate Keeper, Dream Keeper?" Chip echoed, "What is up with all these Keepers?"
"Long ago, when magic was prevalent upon this planet," Udonna said, "There was a powerful wizard called Keeper. He saw that the people of earth would turn against the creatures of magic, so he created magical artifacts for each of his four children, Story Keeper, Dream Keeper, Gate Keeper, and Magic Keeper, he charged them with protecting the magic, Earth and all who dwell upon it."
"When they became old they passed their magical items and titles on to one of the next generation, up until nowadays," Nick finished, "Story Keeper's pen of power was passed down through the generations to my aunt who is the current Story Keeper."
"And the crown of power has been passed down through my family up to my sister's death."
"Why couldn't you just take over the Gate Keeper's power?" Chip asked.
"Because it has to pass onto the next generation," Nick explained, "That's why there hasn't been a Dream Keeper for so long, when the last Dream Keeper passed, there was no one in that line for the next generation to take the catcher. Besides, the powers pick who is next in line, most of the time. Aunt Star said that once she picked up the pen her fate was sealed, yet dad can handle the pen all he wants and nothing happens, same with Uncle David, and he's the first born."
"You have an interesting family tree," Chip announced.
"Guys," Vida called out, "Necrolai is back, she's attacking the city."
"Go, I'll find Clare."
…
Necrolai had new powers, she was stronger than before, stronger than they could ever remember her being. They weren't sure that they were going to survive the battle when Clare suddenly showed up, something in her hand.
"Clare, what are you thinking?" Nick called out, "You aren't ready!"
"I can't let you get hurt," Clare insisted, placing the circlet on her head. Suddenly her outfit changed, she was wearing a purple outfit complete with head scarf.
The battle between Clare and Necrolai was short, Clare was certainly a powerful sorceress.
"That was awesome!" Nick exclaimed.
"Clare you are amazing."
Nick stepped back as his teammates swarmed Clare, congratulating her on a job well done.
"Look," Clare insisted, "We don't have time for this, Koragg has Udonna!"
"Keeper's curse!" Nick swore, right as a huge headache suddenly grabbed him.
"Nick, are you okay?"
"Koragg, he wants a battle with Clare," Nick explained, through the gasps of pain, "It's a trap you shouldn't go."
"Come on," Vida protested, "She just kicked Necrolai's butt."
…
"This is bad, this is really, really bad!" Maddy said, breathing heavily, "They've got Clare and Udonna, what are we going to do."
"I'm trying to think," Nick announced, "Something like this happened once with Mom and Dad when they were my age. We're going to have to split up, you deal with Morticon, and I'll go through the gate and find Udonna and Clare."
"You sure about this?" Vida asked.
"We already lost two allies, I don't want to be put in charge here," Xander insisted, "You know more than I do when it comes to magic."
"I know what I'm doing, unlike solving riddles, captured teammates is something Dad taught me in his power ranger 101 lessons."
…
Nick threw himself onto a chair with a groan, grateful that the Rock Porium was devoid of customers at the moment because he just couldn't handle dealing with Leelee or someone like her. He had always assumed that Dad had been exaggerating about how exhausting certain battles had been, but he couldn't help but feel a little pleased with himself, they had defeated Morticon, and he had defeated Koragg in a one on one battle. They had been able to save Clare and Udonna, and seal the gate again.
The door flew open and Leelee raced in, "Monsters, at the beach, cave, where are the power rangers?"
"Um..." Nick shot up out of his chair, this wasn't something he was expecting, why would Leelee look for the power rangers here, unless she knew, "I haven't seen them around, but tell you what, I'll help you look for them," why couldn't she just call the power ranger hot line if there was a monster attack? "You go down town and I look around here."
Leelee huffed, racing off, "Why can't you find them when you need them?"
"Why can't you use the emergency hot line like everyone else," Nick muttered, texting the others. It was starting to be one of those days.
