Jaune was fairly sure his bed wasn't comfortable enough to make him feel like he was floating. In fact he was fairly sure that he didn't have a bed any more but he was content to just enjoy the feeling. Until he rolled over and wasn't breathing in air anymore. Panic immediately set in and Jaune's eyes shot open only for him to close them immediately from the pain of salt water they were exposed to. Jaune flailed around trying desperately to comprehend his situation. His panicked brain was barely capable of a thought longer than 'Get away from the water and BREATH!' quickly picked up on the fact that his feet seemed to have something solid to stand on. Eventually he managed to stand up with some difficulty after falling over twice due to something on his back and his temporary blindness from the sea water. The fact that what he was standing on seemed to move didn't help and quite frankly it annoyed Jaune somewhat. 'Seriously, who makes a floor that moves and is covered in salt water.'
Finally opening his eyes was only capable of letting out a small "Oh," as he looked around him. Surrounding him on all sides as far as he could she was ocean. Nothing in sight but the waves and he was standing on them.
"This. what is. I don't…" Jaune stumbled over his words, his brain not able to process what was going on. Eventually he stopped trying to figure out what was happening and began to investigate not only what was on his back that was so heavy and how the hell was he standing on water!
Looking over his shoulder he found four of what he could only describe as gun turrets that he knew held sixteen inch rifles. There were twelve guns in total in four triple turrets, two turrets on either side of his body. Next was the small tower and funnel that sat on the center of his back. For some reason Jaune felt that there was still something missing in the armament. In the course of his investigation into the superstructure that rested on his back Jaune also found that he had gained a new outfit.
When he had gone out for his walk he had been wearing the Beacon uniform. Now he was wearing an entirely different uniform. The pants and jacket were a light tan color, the button up shirt beneath the jacket was an even lighter tan color. The jacket had gold buttons with the raised image of an eagle holding an anchor. On each shoulder were black strips of stiff cloth with four gold stars on each. On the right side of the jacket just above the pocket was a gold name tag that read USS Montana. He wore a peaked cap the same color as the jacket with a golden eagle clutching a shield with a stars and stripes pattern. The shoes were black dress shoes. The only thing strange about them was the gray painted steel that went partially up the bottom of the sides of the shoes and was about two inches thick on the bottom of the shoe.
In Jaune's opinion it wasn't a bad uniform and actually looked fairly good if somewhat military. He was only pulled from his investigations by what he could only describe as a pinging at the edges of his mind. Looking up and towards his left in a direction that he knew was north he still couldn't see anything but now he felt something out there. Whatever was out there was big, very big. Turning towards whatever it was that was out that he moved to take a step forward only to lurch forward like he was on a boat. Jerking back in an attempt to stop he overbalanced and fell backwards into the ocean with in his opinion, a very manly yelp.
Standing back up, Jaune resolved to not fall again. He didn't enjoy getting soaked. The only good news was that he seemed to dry off quickly, the water acting kind of like it was running across metal instead of skin. Moving forward again the same thing happened only this time he didn't fall. Taking a deep breath he let out a heavy sigh.
"I'll just figure this out later." Looking up towards the sky he saw that it was about noon based on the position of the sun. "I wonder what the others are up to?" he idly wondered. Nora was probably begging Ren for pancakes. Pyrrha was probably coming back from combat practice that she had everyday. Ruby was probably baking cookies with Yang. Blake was probably in the library, and Weiss was probably practicing aura control in order to gain control over her family's semblance.
He had spent a lot of time practicing with his aura for the same reason. Most nights he would stay awake till twelve practicing control. It helped that he had massive aura reserves so he could afford to make mistakes. Unlike Ren who had the least amount of aura out of all of them Jaune could use techniques that burned aura like there was no tomorrow in order to learn how to manipulate it. In the end it had amounted to nothing that would help him against the grimm other than being able to take a few more hits than normal.
Bringing his hand up to his face Jaune surged his aura through it causing it to glow a brilliant golden yellow. He didn't know how to describe it but back before whatever happened with that cube his aura felt warm, comforting, and bottomless. Now it felt stretched and thin. Like butter spread across too much bread. Releasing his aura he dropped his hand back to his side, electing to continue his observations of the surrounding area and the guns that more or less seemed to be a part of him now. It wasn't long before he found something that he had missed earlier.
There in between the funnel and the conning tower was a sword. Wasting no time he drew the sword and after inspecting it, gave it a few test swings. The blade was the same painted gray as the rest of the metal that made up the tower. The crossguard and grip were nothing special either. If possible it was even more simple than his old sword, Crocea Mors. The only thing special about it was the perfect balance, the weight behind its swings and the grip was a hand and a half grip that was perfectly comfortable in his hands.
Soon the object that he had somehow picked up with what he was fairly certain was RADAR appeared on the horizon. The more he used it the more knowledge about it seemed to come to him.
Coming closer, more details became clear. The object was a massive ship and judging from the guns, it was a warship of some kind. A badly damaged one at that. The starboard side of the bow had a massive hole seemingly ripped into it. Starting at the deck and going all the way to just below the waterline. Exposing several compartments to flooding. Making a lap around the ship Jaune found the name KMS Tirpitz on the stern of the ship. Now with a name for the ship and no easy way onboard he elected to climb the jagged metal along the hole in the ship, trusting that his aura would protect him from cutting open his hands.
It wasn't long before he made it to the top. A quick look around the deck revealed nothing other than it looked like it had been strafed by multiple Atlas Bullheads. Walking towards the superstructure Jaune caught movement out of the corner of his eye. Turning towards it he found the crumpled over form of a person beneath the guns of the superimposed forward turret. Rushing over to their side more details became clear. The person was a girl and she was in the middle of a rather large puddle of blood. She had white hair and wore a white hat similar to his own, a white jacket, black shirt and skirt, a white cloak with yellow and red stripes around the neck, and high heeled boots that went all the way up to mid thigh. Her facial features Jaune was sure would leave him speechless had they not been covered in blood.
Rolling her over from her side to her back the source of the blood was made clear to Jaune. She had a massive hole in her right side, blood still oozing out of it. Jaune could feel the panic begin to set in. He wasn't trained for this, he barely knew basic first aid as is. There was no way he could deal with this. Trying to fight the rising panic in his mind Jaune began to go through what little medical knowledge he had.
Step one: check to see if they're even alive. Putting his fingers to her neck Juane felt for a pulse, soon finding a very weak pulse beating beneath his fingers.
"Okay good she's still alive now I stop the bleeding right. Yeah. That has to be it. Has to be." Jaune was very much panicking now his attempt to go through the steps backfiring as he couldn't one hundred percent remember the next step. Pressing his hands to the wounds trying to put pressure on it he frantically looked around for something to stop the bleeding. Unbeknownst to him, Jaune's panic had sent his body into fight or flight mode. The same as if he was being attacked, His aura activated in response to the perceived threat to itself, covering him in a golden light. At first there was no effect but slowly his aura began to cover the girl and it wasn't long before Juane noticed. It wasn't the golden glow that he first noticed. It was actually the increasingly steady breathing of the girl that brought him out of his panic.
Not only was her breathing becoming more steady but he could feel her wound solely closing beneath his hands. The sound of groaning metal caused Jaune to rip his eyes away from the girl to look over his shoulder. There at the edge of the ship and all around him the damage to the ship was slowly repairing itself. The shock of seeing this almost made him stop whatever he was doing to heal the girl. Turning back towards her something finally clicked in his head. This was his semblance. He could use his aura to heal people.
Jaune was elated. He would be able to save this girl. The stretched feeling of his aura however soon became worse. Now it was actual physical pain but Jaune pushed forward. He would not stop till this girl was healed. He refused to stop when it began to feel like he was breathing in sandpaper. He didn't stop when the edges of his vision began to go dark, fighting against his fading conscience. The coughing didn't stop him either. Even as it progressively got worse. As Jaune approached the final dredges of his aura the wound finally closed and the girl took a deep breath and opened her eyes. She looked surprised and even opened her mouth to say something only for Jaune to interrupt her with the worst coughing fit yet. Blood flying out of his mouth to add to the puddle around them. The golden glow of his aura flickering before fading out, Jaune's conscience not far behind. The last thing he saw before passing out was the concerned face of the girl asking him something.
