Darcia Amaris, 12

District Ten Female

Less than an hour has gone by since the bloodbath, and less than an hour has gone by since Darcia watched a crossbow bolt fly through Arnold's skull. She vividly remembered the scarlet liquid seemingly kept oozing out of his skull. This image would haunt Darcia for the rest of her life, and she would never forget it. Darcia was District Ten's last hope. She couldn't let her district down, they've been let down for the past eight years.

Darcia's alliance has been coping with Arnold's death. No one even spoke since Arnold was killed, but the silence was loud. Darcia wanted to talk, and so did her allies, but no one had the courage to speak up. Darcia wasn't surprised though, when she murdered her father after he murdered Darcia's mother, Darcia didn't speak to anyone for a year. It took Miss. Pillsbury forever to finally converse with Darcia. Darcia was happy that she did because she wouldn't have been where she was now if she hadn't. She knew she'll be the one with a pool of blood formed around instead of Arnold. A few more minutes went by in silence and that's when Darcia got the courage to finally speak up.

"We can't just stand here and do nothing about Arnold's death. This isn't what Arnold would've wanted, guys." Darcia would speak up with a gentle but loud voice to make sure her allies heard her.

"What are we supposed to do, Darcia. Arnold's fucking dead." Sunny would respond to Darcia.

"Well, for starters we can go find a better place to set up camp. After that tomorrow we can go hunting for some food." Darcia would respond to Sunny.

"Hm, that actually might be a good idea, Darcia." Luis would respond with a smile to Darcia's plan.

"I'll admit, that's not what I would've done, Darcia." Sunny would say moments later in agreement.

"Perfect then, let's go find some shelter in one of those several food stands or shops." Darcia would say, grabbing her dagger and backpack.

After the alliance gathered their belongings, they would begin to walk deeper into the abandoned boardwalk. None of them, Darcia included, had ever seen an amusement park before. It wasn't like District Ten could afford to run one. The district could barely make it through the year with work from the citizens. The closest thing District Ten has ever had to an amusement park was the annual fair, which Darcia could never afford to go to.

After scouting the boardwalk, Sunny pointed out a spot.

"There!" Sunny exclaimed, pointing at the medium-sized booth with prizes. It looks like a good place to sleep for the night. It had some shade, which was perfect for Darcia because the arena was significantly becoming hotter as the games continued.

"Nice eye, Sunny. Is this a good place for you, Darcia?" Luis would ask Darcia.

"Yes, this is the perfect spot to rest for the next day or two. We can use those plushies as pillows." Darcia would smile, pointing at the plushies dangling from a sign that read "Prizes!" In goofy lettering.

Boom.

Darcia jumped at the sound of a cannon firing, by relaxing quickly after examining her allies weren't dead.

"I wonder who that can be?" Darcia would say quietly.

"Who knows, but I'm sure we'll find out tonight during the fall." Sunny would say and shrugged.

Darcia alliance entered the prize booth and closed the entrance door, locking it. Sighing, Darcia sat down on the booth's flooring. She gripped her dagger, ready to attack anyone who dared to attack her alliance.

"Shall we further examine our items from the bloodbath?" Luis suggested.

"Good idea." Sunny would respond.

Darcia nodded, taking out her backpack she grabbed at the beginning of the games. When she opened it she found useful items - A loaf of bread, a small water bottle, two packs of saltine crackers, and a map of the arena.

"Looks like we got some food for tonight and we can possibly track some tents with food tomorrow with this map." Darcia would say, showing her allies all the items she received.

"That's great, Darcia. You really are a helping hand in this alliance" Luis would say, smiling.

"I, try." Darcia would respond with a soft smile.

"So, what items did you get?" Darcia asked her allies, pointing to each of their backpacks.

Luis and Sunny would go through their backpacks. Inside Luis's backpack contained - a small water bottle, packets of cashews, and jerky. Inside Sunny's backpack contained - a small water bottle, a small first aid-kit, and packets of cashews.

"Well, we got enough water for the next few days." Darcia would say, examining the items her allies received.

A few hours passed since the alliance was at their original camp. The sun began to go down, Darcia let out a yawn.

"We should get some sleep, but we need to sleep in shifts. We don't want to be killed in our sleep." Sunny pointed out.

"True, I'll start the shift off. The order will be me, Sunny, then Darcia. You two need to get some sleep." Luis said, and sat down on the stool where the booth's owner would convince people to spend their money on their game.

Darcia would grab two teddy bear plushies, one for a pillow, and the other to hold. As the arena grew darker, the weather only dropped two degrees making it decently warm still.

"Tomorrow we'll go scouting for more supplies; good night you two." Luis would tell them, a soft smile reappearing on his face.

Darcia didn't know what was in store for her alliance tomorrow. She didn't know if she'd die, and she didn't know if she'd live either. The girl snuggled with her teddy bear. Darcia's innocence was still in her, but she knew in a bloodstained country like Panem, it'd be taken from her eventually.

"Night." Darcia would say with a smile, and drifted off to sleep.

A few hours later Darcia was woken up by Sunny. It was her time to lookout for other tributes. Darcia stood up from where she slept and sat down where Luis sat a few hours back. She sighed, trying to keep away while looking for more tributes.

Morning soon came, and the alliance awoke. Darcia, being the last one to take watch, decided to prepare a small breakfast for allies. She sliced some of her bread into two pieces each, and had a small container of their cashews.

"Wow, Darcia! This looks amazing." Luis would say with a huge smile.

"Yeah, you outdid yourself." Sunny would say with a soft smile.

"Thank you." Darcia would say, smiling.

After the alliance finished enjoying their deal, they set off scouting for some items that may help them for the next few days. Darcia was nervous for today, as she did not know there was going to be a tomorrow.
