Cruz awoke to the sound of shuffling. She opened her eyes and saw that Lightning was slipping his shoes on as he sat on the couch. She sat up and asked, "What time is it?" "Four." Cruz yawned and rubbed her eyes. Watching him get ready. She couldn't stop thinking of last night. Looking up into his blue eyes. How they glimmered in the stars. The feeling.. The warmth of his hand on her face. Lightning stood up and grabbed his jacket. The one he let Cruz wear last night. Slipping it on. Cruz watched. Lightning grabbed his keys and phone then looked at Cruz. They both stared at each other. Awkwardly maybe. Cruz cleared her throat and asked, "Are you heading to the track?" "Um.. Yeah.. I might get a few laps in before Smoky comes along for training. We have to head to Florida in a few hours." He reminded.
Cruz got up out of bed and asked, "Want me to come along?" She smiled. Lightning stared at her. "Um.." He smiled awkwardly before answering this, "It's… I think I just need some alone time." "Oh.. Yeah, of course.. Is everything okay?" Cruz asked. Lightning sighed. No. "Yeah, it's fine." He assured with a smile then began to walk to the door. Cruz hesitated but as he reached for the handle asked, "Is this about last night?" Lightning froze. Last night? Their little moment in the moonlight. Lightning put his hand down. Thinking.
He frowned then turned towards Cruz and answered, "Not really.. It's.. Something else mostly.." Cruz stared at him from across the room. She blushed and rubbed the back of her head. Her hair a mess. She smiled and continued, "Can we?… Should we?… Talk about it? About last night?" She asked. Lightning's eyes widened. "Um…" He mumbled. Think quick. "No. It was.. Nothing. Don't over think it." He said then left, closing the door quietly behind him.
Cruz frowned a little. "Yeah… No.. Of course not…" Cruz whispered to herself. That hurt. That hurt a lot for some reason. She knew better though. He was married for Chrysler's sake! Lightning stood outside the door. He sighed. It wasn't nothing. His heart hurt. His heart was looking for happiness somewhere else. Because it was completely shattered with Sally. But Lightning didn't want to give Sally up. Not yet. He was fighting his heart right now and it hurt so much…
Smoky, the gang and Cruz were all at the old track. Smoky shouting, "Alright! We got time for one last race!" Cruz was already inside her car ahead. Lightning got into the bolt, buckled up and put on the helmet. Mack looked at the time and shouted, "Hurry this along, Boss! We gotta get you to Florida!" Lightning took a deep breath. Maybe two. He had to beat Cruz here. He had to pass her. "Go!" Smoky yelled! Cruz and Lightning took off! Running and throwing dust behind the cars! Three laps! Three laps to catch her! First lap, he couldn't do it.
Second lap. He was getting close! "Come on, boy! Come on!" Smoky cheered! Lightning used the technique that Smoky showed on the screen. Drafting behind Cruz. Looking for the right moment whip around. And he actually got next to Cruz's car! Passing her into the third lap! "There you go!" Smoky shouted! Everyone was a bit surprised and happy for the racer! But then Cruz easily came around him. Lightning sighed. Letting off the gas for a moment.
…. "No… No, no, no.." Lightning growled at himself. Shifting the Bolt and pushing the pedal hard. Coming into the turn. He shifted again. Pushing the car faster rather than slowing down on the turn. No matter how fast or hard he pushed the Bolt, she wasn't catching up to the three rookies ahead. "Come on!" He shouted! Pushing that pedal down and the Bolt revved its engine loudly!…
Guido waved the checkered flag! Cruz passing the finish line with Lightning right behind her! Lightning slowed down. Coming to a stop. Cruz ahead just enjoying the fact she had won! Lightning sat in the Bolt. Shutting the engine off. He couldn't do it… He couldn't beat Storm.
Mack walked up to the car and softly reminded, "Hey, Boss… It's time to uh.. Hit the road." "Yeah.." Lightning replied. He then got out the bolt, tossing the helmet inside. "I uh.." he began as he turned and faced River, Junior, Louise and Smoky. "I wanna thank everyone for the training.." putting on such a fake smile. "We better get going to Florida.." he muttered. He walked up to Mack and handed the keys to the Bolt to him. He sighed. Walking off the track. He failed. Having to accept what this was. He couldn't win. All he could do was take in his last race.. Because after this, he would never be doing this again….
The drive was silent. Cruz sitting next to Lightning on the couch in the trailer. Silent. Guido and Luigi sitting on the bed in front. Silent. Mack driving. Silent. No one knew what to say. Cruz glanced at Lightning. He was hurting. Really, really hurting right now. "Um.." She had to think of something. "No matter what happens, I want to thank you." She said. Lightning slowly looked at her. Not upset with her. Not smiling either. "For everything. You and Smoky and your crew here taught me a lot. And you took me out of my shell a bit." She admitted. "If future me told younger me that I'd be in a demolition derby against the school bus of death? I'd laugh in my own face!" She giggled.
Lightning snickered. Sort of smiling a little. Cruz smiled and continued, "Or that I'd be sneaking through a window in a cow pasture!? I never even seen a cow up close like that before!" "Seriously?" Lightning asked. Cruz snorted with her giggle, "Yeah! Not to mention, my car sounds wicked awesome now." She exclaimed. Lightning rolled her eyes. Cruz then continued, "This was probably the best trip of my life. I got to get to know the Lightning McQueen, learn unconventional techniques to racing, race my idol, tune THE BOLT, do things I didn't know I could." She was so happy. Lightning warmly smiled. A real smile at her.
He was glad for her. He sighed and replied, "Keep it up, Cruz. You got something special in you." That meant the world to Cruz. she was so happy he was happy. At least a little for now. Mack then stopped the truck. "We're here. Florida speedway!" He announced. Lightning closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This was it. This was his last race. He had zero confidence that he could win. So accepting this was the only thing he could do…
The trailer stopped. Cruz stood up and looked at Lightning. He stared at the floor. Falling into such depression. Cruz lent her hand out and smiled, "Come on." Lightning looked up at her. Luigi and Guido left the trailer. Leaving Cruz and Lightning alone. Lightning sighed admitting, "I can't beat Storm.. I'm just going to make a joke of myself out there.. Damage the brand.." Cruz lowered her hand. Frowning a bit. Trying to think of what to say. "You can try. You are not a fool for trying. And I think you got it in you." "Don't.. We both know the truth. I'm not fast enough." He replied. Cruz sighed. Thinking. She then sat down next to Lightning and leaned back onto the couch.
Both silent. "Why do you do it?" She asked. Lightning glanced at her. Raising a brow. "Do what?" He asked. Cruz smiled and cried crossed her legs as she faced him sitting in the couch. "Why do you race? Why did you do it all these years? You didn't always win. Mr. Swift and Mr. Weathers won to." Lightning snickered and slowly smiled. He saw what she was doing. Cruz smiled warmly at him and continued, "Do it for the fun. Because you enjoy it. Come on. Faster than fast…" She started. Lightning didn't under stand at first. "Faster than fast.." she said again. Hinting for him to continue. Lightning snickered, "Quicker than quick.." "You are Lightning." She said softly with a smile and excitement.
Then she wrapped her arms around him. Hugging him and taking him by surprise. Lightning sighed. Happy. He wrapped his arms around Cruz. Smiling. "Thanks.." He said. Closing his eyes and embracing her. Cruz softly saying, "No matter what happens, I'll always believe in you." Lightning opened his eyes. Still holding her. He frowned though. Hurting. He pulled away and stood up. Walking to the storage and pulling out his suit Sterling made. Cruz walked over and pulled out his old racing suit. "This one suits you better." She said. Lightning smiled. Cruz was amazing. In every way.
She knew exactly how to cheer him up. Cruz handed it to him and put away the fancy new suit. "See you out there, Mr. McQueen." She said as she began to leave the trailer. Lightning snapped, "Wait." Grabbing her arm, twisting her around and slamming her back against the wall of the trailer. Leaning over her with his hand pressed next to her head. Cruz stared up at him with wide eyes. Her breathing quickened. "Mr. McQueen.." She cooed. Lightning dropped the suit and placed his other hand on the other side of her head. Leaning down slightly to her face. Cruz blushed. "I can't…" He whispered. Cruz remained silent. Not sure how to say this. Cruz placed her right hand on his hip, the left on the side of his face.
Looking into his eyes. "Yeah.." she mumbled softly. Lightning stared into her eyes. His body wanted her. But his heart? His eyes filled with tears. His heart didn't know what to do anymore! Because of Sally! Cruz brushed her left hand down his shoulder, his chest, his stomach, grabbing his belt and pulling, suddenly switching places with him and slamming his back against the trailer wall. She pressed her right hand against his chest. Staring at his eyes. His blue and wide eyes. Lightning just stared in awe of her. Her confidence was growing and she was.. She made him.. Happy. She was amazing in his eyes.
God he felt it. He knew this feeling. He wanted her. He hadn't wanted someone like this in a long time. Fuck. But. Then slowly, she stepped back. Cruz picked up his suit and handed it to him. She frowned a bit. Disappointed that she didn't have the confidence to admit anything. Lightning didn't say anything. Just stared. "Faster than fast." She said. Going back to the previous conversation. Then she left form the trailer.. Lightning sighed Staring at the number 95 on his old suit. His last race. Hmm. Just have fun with it. Think about the positive. Yeah.. Faster than fast, quicker than quick… "I am Lightning." He said quietly to himself….
But… He glanced at Cruz's car. Was he actually falling and wanting this woman or was this the pain and heart break talking? Lightning had to ignore it. He had Sally and… The baby to think about…
Lightning walked through the garages. The trailers. Seeing all the rookies. Some of them hanging out with each other, laughing. Talking about the race. Some prepping their cars. A few having a snack before the race. Walking through the vip press and fans. He was being slowly forgotten as they just wanted the rookies. He sighed. Something else that hurt. Being he would retire meant more time at home. Which meant more time with Sally.. The pregnancy… Ben.. That hurt a lot and it was something Lightning was not looking forward to at all!
Lightning walked through the pits. Making his way to his own. "Stickers!" He heard. His eyes widened a bit as Sally ran and jumped into his arms. Wrapping her arms around his neck. Lightning smiled a little. Hugging her. But he looked ahead. Cruz walked into the pits. He stared at her as he hugged Sally. Cruz looked over at Lightning. Smiling happily at him in such a supporting way. He smiled a real smile back at her. He was thankful to have gotten to know her. Sally stepped back and his eyes went back to his wife. His smile fading some.
Sally knew something was wrong. It was probably her, but she instinctively asked, "Hey?… You okay?" Lightning nodded and put on a smile, "Yeah, I'm great." He answered. Sally sighed. He was lying. Badly. "You're going to do great today." She assured. Lightning nodded. But he had no confidence in that. But.. Cruz's words. Just have fun. Right? He smiled a little. Lightning stared at Sally…. she looked at him. Putting on a smile. A nice one. Lightning sighed. What a two faced bitch. He hated her. He loved her. He was fighting inside. Fighting to love her as she cut the very last of the threads that bound their hearts together.
"I'm glad you're here." Lightning said to his wife. Taking her hands in his. Sally smiled. Then leaned in and kissed the side of his face. That kiss didn't feel the same. Lightning suddenly wrapped his arms around her. Pulling her in close and tightly! Sally's eyes widened. Slowly she wrapped her arms astound him too. Something was really wrong. He was hurting. So badly. "Lightning…" she murmured. "I love you. I missed you.." She whimpered. Tears filling her eyes. Lightning held back the tears. Holding his wife close! "I love you too." He choked. Trying not to cry. Just… What was coming when they returned home. It was too much!
Sterling then approached, "Lightning." He called. Lightning pulled away from Sally and walked over to his sponsor. "Hey, Mr. Sterling." Sterling's brows lowered and he scolded, "What were you thinking? Demolition derby? Do you know what would have happened if you hurt the car? You're lucky a windshield was all that inspection flagged. I wanted you out of the public until race day, until today! Then you don't even show up to qualify? You realize based off your numbers, qualifying was going to be the thing that gave you an edge." Lightning nodded and replied, "I know, I'm sorry about the whole staying out of public thing.." Sterling then glanced at Cruz.
She had a large taped S on her chest and a 20 on her back in her training race suit. He rolled his eyes and back to Lightning, "I am trying to convince the President to let you race the new Rusteze car." "New car? You brought a new car for Rusteze with you?" "Yeah, sometimes money can change people's minds. If we can maybe get the President to sign off and let you race one of the next gen cars, we stand a much better chance today, Lightning." Lightning swallowed nervously. For one, the Bolt was something special to him. And two, he never raced the new cars before. He wouldn't do well. Sterling then walked away. Back to trying to get the president on board with a newer car. Then Jackson Storm laughed! Catching Lightning's attention. He and Sally looked over to see Storm laughing at Cruz.
Storm chuckling, "Wow, nice costume! Come on, let's get a picture." He said as he wrapped an arm around Cruz's hip and pulled her against him. Holding up his phone for a selfie. "It's so great to meet my number one fan." Teasing her as he knew she worked for team McQueen. Sally scoffed, "What a jerk." Lightning walking up and scolding, "She's not a fan, Storm." Storm smiled at Lightning, "Oh hey there, Champ. I heard you're selling mud flaps after today. Is that true? Hey! You put me down for the first case, okay." Then he walked off. Not giving Lightning a chance to answer. Lightning sighed and watched Storm leave.
Sally walking up and asked, "What is he talking about?" Lightning stared at his wife a moment. Not sure how to say it other than for what it is. "If I don't win today, I retire. That's the deal Sterling and I made.." Sally frowned a bit. Hurting for him. Cruz looked at Sally. Watching and observing Lightning. The tension between them. Something was badly off. But Cruz smiled and greeted Sally, introducing herself, "Hi! I'm Cruz. Huge fan." Shaking Sally's hand. Sally snickered but smiled at the younger woman. "Nice to meet you…" Sally replied as she wasn't sure who this was. Lightning then introduced further. "Cruz, Sally.. Sally, this is Cruz. The hippie trainer." Cruz raised a brow and asked, "What?" Sally giggled and replied to Cruz, "It's nice to meet you."
Cruz blushed a bit saying, "It's nice to finally meet you. The Sally McQueen." Lightning glared at Sally though. Yeah, not for much longer at this rate. He just kept disliking her more and more very time he saw her. She made him feel something inside he hadn't felt before and he hated it. He wanted this feeling and the things she had done out of his life right now. Mack then walked over and said, "They want racers on the track.." Lightning took a deep breath and nodded. Getting his helmet and getting into the bolt. Cruz walked over and leaned into the window. Smiling at him. "Have fun out there." She said. "For me?" Asking. Lightning smiled a little but then revved the car and when she stepped back he took off to his place in the rear of the start….
Lightning followed the pack. Not feeling great about this. He sighed. "Hey, Lightning!" Sterling said in the radio. Lightning looked over to see Sterling in the pits. "To the future, aye, Champ?" He said with enthusiasm. Lightning sighed replying, "Yeah… To the future.." what future? Mudflaps and grills? Cleaning supplies? Then a familiar old voice, "Hey. Just focus on what you're here to do, kid." Smoky! Lightning smiled and replied, "Thanks, Smoky." "Now, go make Hud proud." Smoky ordered. Thinking of Doc did help cheer him up some. The green flag out! "You got it." Lightning assured then shifted the car and gunned it! Following the back of the pack!…
Lightning McQueen making steady progress in the early parts of the race.
Well it won't be enough to catch Storm.
Considering he started dead last, I don't think he's doing half bad out there.
Lightning bobbed through the other drivers. Getting through pretty well. Smoky proudly announced, "Not too shabby. Keep it up and you'll make it in the top ten." "Top tens not gonna cut it, Smoky. I gotta go all the way." "So dig in! Remember your training. Find Storm and chase him down." Cruz then butted in with, "Oh! Tell him he has three laps to catch me!" Smoky snickered saying, "Cruz says you got three laps to catch her." Lightning smiled a bit and replied, "Yeah, okay. Tell her thanks." Trying to get his head in the race. Maybe. Just maybe he could actually do this!
Sterling then walked up to Cruz in the pits, asking, "Cruz, what are you doing here?" Cruz shrugged, "Oh. Mr. Sterling.. I was just"-"I'd like you to head back to the training center right away." "Oh. But why?" "I need you to get Kurt up to speed for the race next weekend. Um-wait not Kurt.. He's the the bug guy, right? The other one.. Ronald! Yes." "But I wanna stay and watch." "That's not gonna happen, Cruz." "But.. Ronald? Mr. McQueen still has a chance. You want me to get Ronald ready to race in his place already?" Cruz didn't understand. Sterling had zero faith in Lightning. Sterling finally snapped, "Just go do your job!" Cruz's eyes widened. "Yes, Sir.." she muttered. Sterling then added, "And take off that race suit and fix your car. It looks ridiculous. You are a trainer, remember? Not a racer." He scolded.
Lightning heard this though. Man.. Sterling was a jerk and he hated that for Cruz. For himself. Some sponsor. But.. Thinking back. Cruz… Cruz was a racer. She had something special in her. She.. She was racing along with him this entire training. She beat him. She learn to do everything he did on the road trip. She loved playing with the tuning, the set up. She showed passion and a drive for the sport. She grew up trying to become a racer and she probably would be a racer by now if she hadn't had so little confidence in herself when she had her chance!
Suddenly tires squealed! And smoky shouted, "Wreck in two! Wreck in turn two! Go low, go low!" Lightning saw a car slam into another. Smoke and steam filling the track. Lightning's eyes widened with panic. He down shifted and hit the brakes as a car hit the one next to him! His best racing! The younger drivers panicking and trying to get out of the way. A few spinning out of control. Lightning managed to dodge them! One by one! He turned sharp and barely kissed a car that about took him out! Sliding into the field a little. Getting his tired back in the track! He panted heavily. His best beating out of his chest!
The crew watched and wondered how Lightning would do now. Smoky asking, "Kid, you okay?" But Lightning panicked! "Smoky, I need Cruz!" The urgency in his voice. Smoky tried calming the racer down, "Never mind that now.." "No! I need her back here! Get her back here! Now! Get the new car Sterling brought up here!" "I don't under"-"No time to explain! Now, Smoky!" Lightning shouted in pure panic. Smoky sighed and called Cruz up. The yellow flag up and racers began to pit. Cruz ran up as the new car was pushed up to the pits. Lightning pulled up in the Bolt, cut the engine and crawled out the window. Everyone confused. Lightning walked up to the new car and said, "Guido, not the Bolt. This one." Guido and everyone stared confused.
Lightning walked up to Cruz and ripped the sticky tape S off her chest. "What? What's going on?" Cruz asked. Lightning grabbed her shoulder and turned her round, ripping the 20 tape off her back. Then he spun her again and looked her in the eyes as he adjusted his helmet. "Get the car set up, fueled up." He ordered the team. Sterling walked up and asked, "What is she doing here." Cruz began to panic. Afraid and unsure what was happening. "Mr. McQueen?" Cruz questioned. Lightning looked her in the eyes and rushed time explained, "Todays the day Cruz. You're getting your shot." "What!?" She yelped! Fear in her eyes. Lightning put his helmet over her head, tucking her hair in the suit. He tightened the collar and helmet up as she explained, "I started this race, and you're gonna finish it." Cruz lifted the visor, "I can't! I'm just a trainer! I.."
Lightning grabbed the helmet and looked her in her eyes again, "You can Cruz! You can do this! I believe in you." He assured. Cruz was breathing too fast. Staring into Lightning's blue eyes. His smile. He was serious! Sterling then panicked! "What!? She'll damage the brand! Like she said, she's just a trainer!!!" Lightning shook his head and disagreed, "No, she's a racer." He looked back at Cruz continuing, "Just took me a while to see it." Cruz stared. His smile. He was.. She was.. This was really happening! Sterling snarled, "That can't be legal!" Smoky explaining, "Rules say the number has to be out. Doesn't say anything about who is driving it." And he was right.
Cruz panicked! "Mr. McQueen! I can't! I.. I'm not ready I don't know"-"Hey! You did all the training, followed Smoky and my direction out on the track, the beach. You watched Doc's races. You studied me, the bolt. Faster than fast, right?" He asked. Cruz argued, "That's you! Not me! I can't.." glancing at the cars. Getting lined back up. "Hey, Cruz." Lightning grabbed her attention back. "Have fun out there. For me." He winked. Cruz stared. This was it. It was really happening. Smoky then shouted, "She's gotta beat that pace car out!" Lightning pushed Cruz to the new car. She crawled in. Buckling up. She started it and revved it up. "You got this, Cruz!" Lightning cheered for her.
Cruz hesitated and Lightning shouted, "Go!" Smacking the rear of the car and Cruz spun out! Hitting the gas and going! "Hey watch the pit speed!" Lightning yelled. They all watched. Eagerly to see if Cruz would make it out! She did! She was in the race!!! The crew cheered! Lightning sighed with a satisfied smile. This felt right…..
(I recommend watching the last race of cars 3 once Cruz gets on the track. Stopping when the scene ends at the track before it goes back to radiator springs it was a lot and I opted rather not to write the race this round)
"Kids got a lot of stuff, ay Doc?" Lightning asked aloud. Smiling. Gazing at Cruz in her glory. Sally walked up and asked, "So what it's gonna be Stinkie-Stickers?" She teased. Lightning glance at her and snickered. Staring at her. He sighed. Still smiling. "Oh, I'm gonna keep racing. Just… Maybe in a bit less official way for now." Sally smiled. "I was hoping you'd say that. That you'd keep racing." Lightning stared at her. Yeah, his life at home was going to be hell. But.. They could make this work.
Cruz smiled and finished with the press the cameras the other drivers hyping her up. She walked back to the pits to see Lightning. Thank him. But.. He was gone already? She never even got to say goodbye. She frowned a bit. But another driver walked up and invited to the garages for some celebration drinks and to hang out with him and some other drivers. Cruz hesitated, but went on. Seeing that Lightning was already gone…
Lightning and Sally walked down the pits, garages, the trailers. Walking up to the 95 trailer. Lightning looked up at his photo on the side. Sally held his hand. "You did good." She complimented softly. Lightning glanced at her. Why did she have to go and fuck their lives up. This was the moment they should get to enjoy a new phase in life together. But now it would involve Ben and this baby. He kept smiling. For her. "Home?" Sally asked. Lightning shrugged, "Let's get a motel for the night. We can head back by plane." "Sounds good to me. I'll call up a motel." She said then stepped into the trailer for more quiet.
Lightning stayed outside. Waiting. Thinking. His smile fading. "Mr. McQueen.." Cruz grabbed his attention. Lightning turned and faced her. She smiled. Her brown eyes sparkled and she was extremely grateful right now. Lightning smiled. A real smile seeing her. "Don't let me down out there.. I'll be watching." "I won't. I promise, I won't." She replied. Then she hugged him. Lightning hugged her back. Holding her in his arms. His heart hurt. They pulled apart. Barely. Still holding each other. Cruz looking up into his eyes. "Mr. McQueen.. I… This might be the last time I see you.." "Nah.. I'll come to the races now and then." "I just… I wanted to tell you… I…" his eyes so blue..
His smile so inviting. "I think.." She just couldn't find words. So she did what she could. Leaning in and kissing the side of his face. Her lips soft and warm. Lightning's eyes widened. His heart shocked. Cruz stared at him. Stepping back. "Thank you." She said once more. Turning and walking away. Lightning felt broken. He understood what was happening now. He was happy with Cruz. Near Cruz. His heart trying to yearn for that happiness she gave him. And not the pain that, "Lightning?" Sally called. Lightning turned and stared at Sally. He frowned. The pain that Sally gave him. "Ready to head out?" She asked with a smile. Lightning nodded. Walking with Sally out and heading to the motel….
Lightning dropped his bags as they entered the motel room. Sally turned and stared at LIghtning. He was.. Numb. Just being around her she was killing him already. She frowned. "Lightning…" She called. He looked at her with his broken eyes. She sighed and asked, "Are we okay?" Lightning hesitated answering that. Staring at the floor as he answered softly, "No.. But..I.. We'll be fine. I'll get over it." Would he? "I'm.. Um.. I'm gonna go out for a drink.. I'll be back." But then Sally grabbed his arm, stopping him. He glared at her, pulling his arm away, he snapped! "Don't act like you care what I do or what happens to me!" "I do care!" Lightning grabbed her by the throat and pulled her against his body. Their foreheads touching. Her breathing quickened. He let go of her throat. Broken. Sally felt tears come to her eyes. He couldn't hurt her even though he hated her. He walked out the door, SLAM behind him. Sally fell to her knees. They were over, weren't they?….
Lightning got out the cab and walked into the bar. Sitting and getting a drink. Another, another, another. Drinking his feelings down. He hated her! Looking at her and realizing he would be home everyday with her. Having to watch her pregnancy and be reminded of her unfaithfulness every day! Another drink. Slamming the empty glass onto the table. Getting off the seat and swaying as he stood. People recognized him. Taking photos. Talking to him. But he didn't understand them and mostly ignored people. Racing was over, his marriage was over. He really wanted to try for Sally because he loved her, but.. He couldn't do this. He could've keep his promise to her.
There was no way he could do this by Sally's side. He grabbed cigarette pack out of a strangers pocket. Slipping out the door and taking a break to smoke. Sally was poison. She was worse. She was hell. He pulled out his phone. Pulling up his contacts. He hesitated. Cruz. He could call her. Like this? No, he didn't want Cruz seeing him like this. So.. He went back to the motel…
Lightning stumbled in. Sally rushed to him. His side. Helping him walk to the bedroom. He sat on the bed and Sally apologized, "I'm so sorry…" Lightning looked up at her. She hurt him like no one ever had. He stood up. Swaying a bit before he held his stance. He grabbed her face gently in his hands. Looking her in the eyes. Painful eyes. She was in pain too, regretting what she had done. Lightning leaned in close.. His lips barely touching hers. Then he kissed her. Softly Kissing once more then… He stood frozen. Resting his forehead on hers.
He wanted to hurt her. He wanted to make her pay. He wanted to throw her onto the bed and fuck her like the god dam whore she was! But he sat back onto the bed and sighed. He could never hurt his precious Sally. "I'm tired.." He growled. Sally nodded. Tucking him into bed for the night. He passed out pretty quickly. Sally sat on the other side of the bed. Thinking over some things. This was bad He couldn't continue life like this! Her eyes filled with tears. If he couldn't get over this.. She would have to let him go.. That way he could be okay…..
