Hanging On The Edge-Ch 18
Today was the day, finally, finally Penelope was getting her cast taken off, her foot had healed faster than they had expected and the cast was taken off a little over a week early and to say that Penelope Grace Garcia was a happy girl right now was the complete and total understatement of the year. Fran had taken her to the hospital today, one of the few times she'd been out of the safety of the Morgan household in almost 6 weeks and they weren't alone, there were several guards close and last but not least Derek Morgan was walking hand in hand with her as she walked out of the hospital castless.
Fran smiled and said , "congratulations on getting your cast off early Penelope",she turned to face Fran and said ,"I couldn't have done it without the amazing care I got from you and the girls Fran, thank you again for everything you've done", Fran grinned and said, "you are more than welcome and nowwwwwwww, now that your cast is off you can focus on real date with my son". Penelope blushed and nodded her head yes and said, "that I can but we still can't go out like normal people, at least not until this freak is caught and put behind bars where he belongs", Derek brought her hand up to his lips and kissed i and said, "and that will happen soon baby girl, that I promise", she winked at him and said, "I know angelfish, it's just, it's just", he said, "I know that you want to be able to get out and do things but right now it's not safe".
One of the guards stepped forward and said, "Ms. Garcia we need to get you back home, it's not safe out here", she nodded her head yes as Derek opened the car door for her, she then slid inside, closely followed by Fran, two of the guards got in the car with them while the others got in the car behind them. As they pulled out of the parking lot Penelope leaned in and said, "now that the cast is off, how about we go on a real picnic?", Derek said, "sounds good, how about out back under that big shade tree, how does that sound?", she grinned and nodded her head yes before laying her head down on his shoulder.
Fran grinned, she could tell that over the past few weeks her son and hopefully future daughter in law were getting closer and closer, she could tell that they were head over heels in love with each other and she couldn't help but wonder just how much longer it would be before her son would finally propose to the only woman he'd ever loved. She knew that Derek had dated a few women but he'd never brought any of them home to meet her or the girls, he'd never even really mentioned their names to her and that's how she knew that he'd never been serious about anybody else before.
When they arrived home a few minutes later Fran said, "why don't the two of you go get changed and I'll get the picnic basket ready for you", Derek and Penelope looked at each other and then at her and smiled as they nodded their heads yes, they then turned around and walked toward their bedrooms to get changed/ Fran headed to the kitchen, she grabbed the picnic basket and started filling it with delicious food and drinks for her son and his girlfriend, the women that she'd got to know quite well over the past few weeks, the woman that was an obvious fit to her only son.
Derek was the first to get dressed and he was waiting on Penelope in the kitchen with his mom, they were laughing and talking when Penelope walked into the room wearing a beautiful peach sundress and to see the way that dress was hugging ever curve mane him inwardly moan in appreciation, she looked amazing in that dress. Fran handed them the basket nad asid, "have fun you two", Derek took the basket in on hand and said, "thank you momma, thanks for everything", he then held out his hand to Penelope and she happily slid her smaller hand into his, she grinned at Fran and said, "thank you so much Fran", Fran said, "any time honey, any time" and watched as the lovebirds walked hand in hand out the backdoor and walked across the yard.
When they got to the huge tree, derek got the blanket and spread it on the ground, he then helped his baby girl down before putting the basket down on the blanket between them, he then looked at her and said, "you look amazing in that dress sweetness", she grinned at him and said, "why thank you hotstuff and might i say that you are looking mighty fine yourself?", he leaned in and brushed his lips against hers in a soft, gentle and loving kiss. When they pulled apart he said, "everything smells great sooooo let's ee what momma has for us", penelope nodded her head yes as she watched Derek open the basket up and start putting food out between them on the blanked.
Fran had managed to throw together an amazing little basket with fried chicken, salad, potato salad and double chocolate chip brownies that she knew were Penelope's favorites, Derek then poured them both a cup of lemonade and said, "momma works fast doesn't she?", Penelope nodded her head and said, "she sure does, it's almost like she knew we'd want to do this today". Derek said, "with my momma I have learned to expect the unexpected", they then started enjoying the delicious that Fran had sneakily prepared earlier in the day before they left to get her cast taken off.
As she stood watching the smiling couple from the kitchen she said, "work your magic son, work your magic", she then turned around and headed out of the kitchen to do a few things before Dave and the rest of the team would be arriving for dinner later, she wanted to get in a bubble bath and change her clothes before getting things ready for their dinner.
