Team Skull again, and Meeting Kabu
Lincoln and the others continue down Galar Mine No. 2 on their way to Motostoke where their next gym battle waits. On their way down the tunnel, Sam trains up her new Shellos a bit; soon he learned Body Slam. Right now, Sam was currently facing off against another trainer in a Pokemon battle.
"You can do it, Sam!" said Luna. Sam looks at Luna and winks at her. The trainer takes out a pokeball and throws it, releasing a black-colored Pokemon that looked like a mining car with a head, made of rock, and overflowing with coal. Luna takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Carkol, the Coal Pokemon, and the evolved form of Rolycoly. It forms coal inside its body. Coal dropped by this Pokémon once helped fuel the lives of people in the Galar region." said Luna's Rotom Phone. Sam takes out her Shellos' pokeball and releases him from it.
"Shello should have the advantage because Carkol is a combination rock and fire type." said Lincoln. Back at Sam and the trainer she was facing, they were just about to begin.
"Carkol, use Tackle!" said the trainer. Carkol rolls towards Shellos and slams into him.
"Shellos, use Ancient Power!" said Sam. Shello summons up four rocks that had fossils in them and launches them at the Carkol, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. All of a sudden, a surge of energy rises up from underneath Shellos.
"What's wrong with Sam's Shellos?" asked Leni.
"Nothing's wrong." said Lincoln. "Ancient Power has a chance of improving all the strengths of the Pokemon that used it."
"Huh?" replied Leni.
"It's like making an alteration to a dress to make it better." said Lincoln.
"Oh!" replied Leni. Back at the battle, Sam's opponent decides to keep battling.
"We're not beat yet!" said the trainer. "Carkol, use Ancient Power!" Carkol does the same thing that Shellos did, but doesn't do as much damage as Shellos did to it. Leni sees that Carkoal isn't getting an energy surge.
"Why didn't Carkol get stronger?" asked Leni.
"There's only a chance that Ancient Power will improve the Pokemon that used it." said Lincoln. "Sometimes it will; sometimes it won't."
"Shellos, use Water Pulse!" said Sam. Shellos releases sonic waves that had water mixed into them at Carkol and hits it, doing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"Sam won!" cheered Lana.
"I knew she could do it!" said Luna. The trainer returns his Carkol to its pokeball, then walks over to Sam and hands her pokedollars.
"That was a good battle." said the trainer.
"Thanks, dude." said Sam. The trainer starts heading out of the tunnel while Sam's friends run over to congratulate her.
"You were rad, Sam!" said Luna as she and Sam hugged.
"Thanks, Lunes!" said Sam. She then returns her Shellos to his pokeball.
"Let's keep going." said Lola. The gang continued going down the mine; they soon came across two members of Team Yell.
"Not these guys again." muttered Lincoln, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Sorry to bother you but aren't you lot takin' part of the Gym Challenge, right?" asked a Team Yell member.
"So, what if we are?" asked Ronnie Anne.
"That's great, we'd like to battle trainers like you." said the other Team Yell member.
"Well, if that's what you want." said Ronnie Anne as she pulls out a pokeball.
"Hey." they hear someone call out. They turn to see Hop running over to them. "Look at you, guys; surrounded by adoring fans. You might be showing up Lee soon."
"Jog on, mate! We're in the middle of a conversation here." said a Team Yell member.
"Yeah? Well can't you see that I'm Hop, the trainer who's going to be the next champion?" asked Hop.
"So, we have a joker here, eh?" replied the other Team Yell member. "You're so funny, I forgot to laugh."
"So, laugh then." replied Leni. Everyone else looks at Leni with blank looks.
"You think I'm joking? I think I'll prove it with a Pokemon battle." said Hop. He turned towards Ronnie Anne. "Want to help me out?"
"Sure; a warmup match before my gym battle might do me some good." replied Ronnie Anne. Hop, and the Team Yell members each pull out a pokeball.
"Go, Wooloo!" said Hop, throwing Wooloo's pokeball and releasing it.
"Larvesta, come out!" said Ronnie Anne, throwing Larvesta's pokeball and releasing her. Team Yell throws pokeballs, releasing a Thievul and a Linoone.
"Thievul, Quick Attack!" said a Team Yell member. Thievul charges at Larvesta with incredible speed and rams her, knocking her back.
"Larvesta, Screech!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta lets out a shriek, releasing soundwaves onto Thievul and Linoone, weakening their defenses.
"Linoone, Night Slash!" said the other Team Yell member. Linoone leaps at Wooloo while its front paw was covered in black energy.
"Defense Curl!" said Hop. Wooloo curls up into a ball before Linoone claws it, not doing much damage. "Now use Double Kick on Thievul!" Wooloo runs at Thievul and kicks it twice, dealing super effective damage.
"Larvesta, Bug Bite!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta lunges at Linoone and bites it, dealing super effective damage.
"Tail Whip!" said the Team Yell member. Thievul runs at Larvesta and wags its tail onto her, weakening her defense.
"Growl!" said the other Team Yell member. Linoone lets out a growl that releases soundwaves onto Larvesta and Wooloo, weakening their attack strength.
"Bug Bite again!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta lunges at Thievul and bites it; it falls to the ground, unconscious.
"Thievul!" said the Team Yell member.
"Double Kick!" said Hop. Wooloo jumps at Linoone and kicks it twice, dealing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Linoone!" said the other Team Yell member.
"Way to go, Larvesta!" said Ronnie Anne.
"You too, Wooloo." said Hop. Team Yell returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"Not bad." said a Team Yell member as he and the other member put their pokeballs away and they each pull out another one.
"But let's see how you two handle these." said the other member as they throw pokeballs, releasing a Liepard and a Pancham.
"Liepard, Fury Swipes!" said a Team Yell member. Liepard jumps at Larvesta and claws her, repeatedly.
"Larvesta, Flame Wheel!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta rolls towards Liepard while covered in fire and rams into it, damaging it. Liepard becomes covered in fire.
"Liepard's burned." said Lincoln.
"Pancham, Arm Thrust!" said a Team Yell member. Pancham runs at Wooloo and strikes it with its palms several times.
"Wooloo, Growl!" said Hop. Wooloo lets out a growl and releases soundwaves onto Liepard and Pancham, weakening their attack strength. Liepard flinches in pain from its burn.
"Larvesta, Flame Charge!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta becomes surrounded by fire and she charges at Liepard, ramming it, and knocking it back. Larvesta begins surging with energy and her speed increases.
"Liepard, Sand Attack!" said a Team Yell member. Liepard kicks sand with its hind legs onto Larvesta's face.
"Pancham, Low Sweep!" said the other Team Yell member. Pancham runs at Wooloo and kicks its front legs, dealing super effective damage to it. Wooloo struggles to get up.
"You can do it, Wooloo; use Tackle!" said Hop. Wooloo runs at Pancham and rams it. Liepard recieves damage from its burn; it proved too much for Liepard and it collapses.
"No!" said the Team Yell member.
"Now, Larvesta, Bug Bite!" said Ronnie Anne. Larvesta lunges at Pancham and bites it, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"No way!" said the Team Yell member.
"They did it!" said Clyde.
"Not bad." said Lana.
"Way to go, Ronnie Anne." said Lincoln. Team Yell returned Liepard and Pancham to their pokeballs and tossed pokedollars to Ronnie Anne and Hop. After that, they then turned and walked away.
"Let's keep going!" said Hop as he runs down the tunnel.
"He's sure in a hurry." said Clyde.
"Yeah,he's like that." said Lincoln.
"Well, I want to get to Motostoke quickly also." said Lola. "There's a large crowd at the stadium waiting to be graced with my presence." They all continue to walk down the tunnel and soon see Hop looking at the two Team Yell members talking to Kabu.
"Hey, isn't that the Motostoke Gym Leader?" asked Clyde.
"Yeah." said Lincoln. They run over next to Hop and listen to the conversation between Team Yell and Kabu.
"Thank you for helping out with my training, Team Yell!" says Kabu in a loud voice. "But I must say it's unforgivable for you to get in the way of a Carkol hard at work!"
"We weren't gettin' in its way! We were tryin' to cheer it on!" said one of the Team Yell members.
"Still, you did a number on us in that Pokemon battle." said the other Team Yell member.
"Probably because our Pokemon were too worn out from those other battles we just had." said a Team Yell member.
"So, it's time for Team Yell to scarper and give a morale boost elsewhere!" said the other Team Yell member. He and the other Team Yell member then turned and ran away as Kabu watches them.
"Cheering is one thing, but one shouldn't get in the way of honest work!" said Kabu.
"Man, he's wicked!" said Hop. "No wonder he's the Fire-type Gym Leader!" Kabu turns around after hearing Hop.
"Ah, you're one of the trainers endorsed by Leon!" said Kabu.
"That's right! I'm Hop; Leon's younger brother, and soon-to-be the new Champion!" said Hop. Kabu then looks at Lincoln.
"And you're Lincoln Loud, right?" asked Kabu.
"Yes, sir." said Lincoln. He then introduces his sisters and friends to him.
"Well, it's nice to meet you!" said Kabu. "I'm just training right up until the last moment so that I can guarantee the perfect match when I face all you Gym Challengers!"
"I can't wait!" said Hop. Kabu nods and starts jogging out of the mine with the others following after him shortly. When they exit the mine, they decide to take a lunch break and start preparing food.
"So, what now?" asked Lana as she ate some curry.
"Maybe after lunch, we should also do some training for our Gym Battle?" suggested Ronnie Anne.
"Yeah, we can focus mainly on the ones that would have an advantage against fire types." suggested Lincoln.
"Good idea." said Clyde. The group finishes lunch so they can continue their training.
