Yamato was looking out to sea as she wanted to live up to the name of Oden. Having learned how to read his logbook on her own she had done so to the point where she had completely memorized it from front to back. She could recall it clearly in her head whenever she wanted but kept the book close to her heart as that was where she wanted it to stay.
With that being the case the idea of her becoming Oden herself would be close at hand and always there as a vital part of the person she wanted to become rather than who she was currently. She was the child of Kaido but she felt no ties to her father's legacy beyond the fact that they were related to each other and nothing more. She was his child but they were not family in any sense other than biological. One can not choose who their parents are but one does have a choice in picking who they considers their family to be.
Yamato looked at the shackles that were around her wrist as she was bound to this island in Wano not just because she had unknowingly eaten a devil fruit. One that her idiot father left lying around his starving child which she was starting to think he had forgotten she had existed at that point. What did he expect to happen she was starving to the point where if she saw anything that looked like food she would have cramped it into her mouth regardless of what it was. She wanted food as she needed something in her stomach beside the water she had managed to find somehow. She was suffering from a lack of food maybe but dying of thirst was a different story. She somehow found means to quench her thirst but not her hunger though
"He really did a number on me back there," Yamato said to herself in at loud
Recalling the beating her father gave her as a result of eating that fruit he claimed took a lot of work for him to not only get but ensure that no one else ate before he could find it. She was not even sure how her father managed to find the fruit in the first place did he go out and kill the previous person that had this power that dwelled within her now? The only way to know what a devil fruit is before eating it is to have prior knowledge of the fruit itself or kill the owner of the fruit and pray that it appears within your area of notice before anyone or anything else finds it.
"At least he is not trying to kill me to get the fruit back," Yamato said as she just did not get her father at times.
He would seem like he was actually trying to kill her by leaving her to starve to death and then there was the time he purposefully left her with a bunch of samurai after revealing she was his kid to them. If they were not samurai that were more like Oden himself to various degrees then she could have been killed by them as some samurai were out for revenge against everyone related to Kaido after all. A means to hurt him however possible since the direct approach was suicidal after all.
"Good thing he did not," a voice said behind her
She was then pushed off the cliff that she was looking out from and into the sea below. Yamato did not have time to even look at who was trying to kill her as the shackles around her wrist went off. Exploding just like she was told they would have if she ever tried leaving the island. It was on this day that one that Kaido had planned to give her devil fruit to, try to kill her to reclaim what they considered to be there by right. They were merely reclaiming what was rightfully theirs in the first place as Kaido to them seem to want their kid dead anyway. So they said no problem in killing Yamato themselves to get their devil fruit back.
However, this person miscalculated as Kaido went berserk when he discovered they had seemingly killed Yamato as she was never seen after falling from the cliff. Her devil fruit though it never respawn somewhere nearby was thought that it had somehow as maybe there were fruit that were washed into the sea and as Yamato sank. That is where the fruit respawned thus causing them to lose it as no one could go dive that deep into the sea to recover it.
What no one even Yamato herself was aware of was the moment that the explosion went off. After her hands were blown clean off as a result before hitting the water itself. Her devil fruit power allowed her to control ice and well in an effort to save herself, her body activated her powers which flash frozen her entire body. Yamato's devil fruit in an instant basically turned her into an ice statue the moment before she struck the water. Being that her entire body was frozen solid to the point where she was in a state of suspended animation even if someone were to try to sense her with Haki they would not find any trace of her as a result of her current state of existence.
However, since this was something her body and devil fruit did without her knowledge and/or will. Yamato herself could not undo it nor would she even if she could have since she was in the depths of the sea after all. The only reason she was not drowning was because she was completely frozen and would remain this for eight years as she somehow traveled from the shores of Wano all the way to the East Blue where she washed up on the shore of Dawn Island in the East Blue.
