Embarrassing Encounters
October 21st, 2011
Draco didn't know what to expect after that very confusing encounter with the twins in the abandoned classroom. He bloody kissed George for crying out loud, and with no real hesitance, either. Of course, when one caught the attention of the Weasley twins, they tended to fall victim to their attention until they were satisfied their torment drove the person bonkers. Unfortunately for him, he was now on their radar.
Being a part of the inquisitorial squad meant nothing to them, and neither did losing house points or assigning detentions they never seemed to make it to. Draco knew they were up to something based on that box of contraband he busted them for… and then promptly swept under the rug due to the dirt they dug out of him during that little game.
It would be a lie for him to say he didn't like their undivided attention or the kiss, just thinking about it had him flush and grow uncomfortable is all. Sometimes even catching their eye from across the corridor and one of them winking back at him set him off. He was an absolute fool to think they were going to ignore him after that encounter.
Unfortunately, one of the Weasley twins saw him staring as they approached the table he was at in the Great Hall. He was watching them, stupidly of course, and they noticed. Before having any shred of a chance to avert his eyes, one of them spoke up.
"Oi, Malfoy?" one said as he passed by, "Do you believe in love at first sight?"
Draco wished the ground would swallow him whole, especially when everyone within earshot whirled their attention around to look directly at the three.
"Or should I walk by again?" the other asked with a chuckle as he followed behind.
Then they had the audacity to wink. And their stupid crooked smiles did things to his insides. It was infuriating. And then they continued on their way as if not saying a thing, leaving him three shades of pink and feeling a little too warm as everyone looked at him with questions on their tongues.
Another situation came up a couple days later when he was tailing them in an attempt to bust them again, but this time mean it and actually report them with or without the threat of blackmail. He could easily deny any claims, at least. But no, they got the best of him once more, as they led him to the library and had a friend with them this time. Jordan, Draco thought his name was.
"It's a good thing we got our library cards," one said to the other, turning around to walk backward and face Draco while their friend just rolled his eyes and continued walking.
"Because we are totally checking you out."
Draco stormed out of the library then, face pinkening and emotions mixing in his gut. He swore he hated them… he did!
The last time it happened, Draco was up late studying for his OWLs in the study hall classroom. He had the privilege of being up past curfew due to being in the IS. Of course, the twins had no regard to rules, and so they were mucking about plotting whatever they had planned. He gave up trying to catch them because the ridiculously embarrassing pick-up lines were starting to become too much, and it was starting to cause some mixed signals on his behalf.
"Do you like big booms and bright lights?" someone whispered—the bloody twins—in his ear, causing him to jump out of his skin.
One—or both—of them placed a hand each on his shoulders, keeping him from getting up. The other leaned over to whisper in his other ear then.
"Because, baby, you're a firework."
Draco gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. Feeling their hands release him, he quickly got to his feet and twirled around, only to be met with a loud snapping sound and no one around him. He sucked in a frustrated breath and collected his things and stormed back to the dungeons. There was no way he was going to focus now.
Turned out, the twins were planning something, and the fireworks display that erupted through the castle during exams was their grand plan. One firework focused on chasing Draco around, and when he was finally cornered with no where else to go, he braced for the burning shock of the firework to hit him, only to hear a light kissing noise and the firework bursting into a flutter of little hearts all around him…
Draco awoke with a start, almost feeling the warm tingle that the fireworks left on his skin from his dream. It was nearing the end of his fifth year when all of that happened, and he clearly remembered it all so vividly. The embarrassment he went through during those last few weeks of school almost had him tear his hair out, but damn he wished he appreciated their boldness back then.
Fred shifted beside him and George snored softly from behind, and Draco felt himself smile like an idiot. He was lucky to have them now.
